Quote:The other thing was that if you teamed you blew past the story levels and missed out on the arcs, plus the having to unteam to do the solo missions at the end of each arc. While I very much enjoyed the stories there I found I had to be very careful of my leveling speed. Why did it fail? I'm sure there's been a lot of analysis about this, but I think that ultimately Praetoria failed for the same reason that red-side is inherently less populous than blue-side: The majority of players are not fond of moral ambiguity. And those that are, are probably perfectly happy starting in Mercy. There's also the perceived difficulty of the enemy groups in Praetoria, though I don't think that was a significant factor (though the 'issue' was probably magnified by the need to solo everything with fewer and fewer people starting in Praetoria).

Quote:Can I suggest you don't go play another MMO if you find this creator limited... I've played a couple of others and honestly... we have it good, really good.
PLEASE IMPROVE THE CHARACTER CREATOR. I can't stress this enough. Character creator is so limited it's infuriating. It is just so very lacking.
Yes, there are some limitations, but really... other games will give you say 8 faces and maybe 10 hairstyles. How many games will let you wear the hat you want right from the start?
2 colours? A recent spaced based game allows NO, read that No, colouring of costumes. A ring based game allows 1.
Added to that, the Art team are adding new stuff regularly. We finally have backpacks, something we've asked for forever.
I would like to see some of the items spread across the different categories, so that you can have horns and glasses etc, but their are engine limitations to the character rig that means we can only attach so much stuff to the character. To overhaul this we'd need a whole new rig, which would possible mean redoing every single animation in game as well. For an 8 year old game, I'm not sure that's viable. -
Quote:OK, I see where you're coming from. I don't feel it's as bad as you do however. The villains of Praetoria use their scientific and technological mastery to manipulate the populace and warp the human form while the poor oppressed magic users hide out in a swamp and plot rebellion while squads of sci-fi raygun soldiers try to hunt them down. It really doesn't get any more obvious than that.
Quote:Depictions of science and technology in this game are nearly universally negative. Both are presented as powerless in the face of the major supernatural threats confronting the city, which only mystical understanding can comprehend (and this one dates all the way back to War Witch's line in the original CoH comic, "There are things that science will never be able to understand.").
Quote:all we have are Crey, Arachnos, Malta and the their ilk. Advanced technology, with exception of the medicom and possibly the war walls, is almost always depicted as having severe negative consequences (see Portal Corp) or being used for evil: witness Cole's nukes, Hamidon's genetic meddling, Enriche, etc. High-tech villains abound, from the Rikti to the Praetorians and Dr. Vahz.
Quote:And yes, people will cite Positron as a counterexample, but it's worth noting that Positron does very little with his technology, except for a line in the description of PPD hardsuits saying that Positron had a hand in designing them. He just flies around and blasts people with lasers; he could be a mutant in a clown suit and it would make no difference, really. -
This is confusing. Most of the early Praetoria arcs are science and tech based. There is little to no magic in the original set of arcs. The last couple of areas in Praetoria seem to address WHY that is, which makes sense to me.

Quote:Wasn't there a confirmation of Jon's mother in one of the stories. I want to say is was when Davos was in White Harbour, but I don't remember the details.Oh, speaking of Jon Snow, I assumed up until recently that we'd get some kind of interesting story about his origins. After all, it's radically out of character for Ned Stark to father an illegitimate child. I had always suspected that he was not Ned Stark's son, but his nephew, the son of Ned's dead sister and the prince of Targaryen. (For a particularly satisfying twist, what if the relationship wasn't a hostile abuction, but a secret marriage accepted by both the parties? Notice that this gives Jon one of the strongest legal claims to the Iron Throne.) However, since Martin's point with the story seems to be, "Things happen completely at random, there's no plan, ooh, ontological riff ontological riff ontological riff," encapsulated in the oft-repeated "This is not a story," I've come to believe this is highly unlikely.

Quote:No, but a clown summoning set done seriously could easily be made to work with the carnival groups (light and shadows). The Carnival of Light is NOTHING like the described powerset, and has nothing to do with hu-...MOSTLY nothing to do with humor at all. Had a "Carnival of Light MM" been the requested, that I would have been able to take seriously.
Some one else said it best: This should have ended with Aneko and Darkgobs posts.
Plus clowns have nothing to do with humour either.... -
Quote:You mean aside from the whole circus based villian group that could do with some clowns to be really creepy? Is there anything else clown related powerset wise in this game?
I enjoyed the joke, but would love the powerset to be made. It just sounds downright fun, and isn't that what it's all about? -
Quote:The only differences I see between the game we have now and the game we had is instead of repeating the ITF, LGTF etc on 50's we repeat the BAF LAM Etc and we have some more powers. This game was so much better before we had a really really really long endgame grind. It was so much better before inventions for the same reason.
The only problem is that everything before those 2 systems was far more difficult due to "lower numbers".
I've not run any of the latest trials because I haven't been playing much recently, only the first 2 and them only 3 or 4 times, but have all 5 slots open and filled with level shifts for 3 of them. So yes, I believe it is possible to open them all with out huge grinding of the trials. -
You can install 2 copies through the launcher. A US and an EU version. I set one to windowed and one to Full screen.

When you first get to the creation screen there should be an option to choose CoH Freedom or Going Rogue. If this is showing still as purchase you'll need to contact support. It may also take a while for the account system to catch up that you have paid.

Quote:Hmm, I can't say I agree with this sentiment. You get 400pps per month and 550pp once you clear tier 8. That extra 150 is 37.5% bonus reward to Vets. Effectively a discount. As a VIP player i wonder why there is so little coming out that is free for VIPs, or even at a discount for VIPs.. we are paying our subs, and some of us have been here for years. Maybe a thought to grant a small discount per Year Vet badge, not for tokens, they can be bought, but the Yearly Veteran badges have to be earned. Would be a nice gesture to the long time players. 2.5/ 5% per yearly badge sounds about right?

Quote:Terrible shot, she's outside both rings on the target.I was actually looking for a pic of this 14 year old performer I saw on a talent show but that was all I could find last night.
Here's the vid clip of the girl I was thinking of. And she's that way shooting blindfolded.

Quote:So did you pay for those with Cash, or with your 400pp's you get each month for the same sub fee you paid prior to Freedom? And did you not have to pay for the various super packs?I've bought a few of the costume pieces. Some of them are quite nice, however at the same time prior to Freedom alot of it we would have gotten for free. I would still like to occasionally get a costume set added to the game that I don't have to drop money into, but I honestly don't see that really ever happening again outside of rare exceptions, which is disappointing. Getting a new costume set as part of a new issue for free would be cool, even if those parts were vip only.

I'm not sure if you were mocking the usage of this, but just in case you weren't, the possessive form of It is Its. It's is a contraction of 'it is'. Stupid and confusing, but that's the english language.
-
For me, it's the super sidekicking. One of the guild mates was starting a FP and I said I'd join but I was 10 levels too high for them. I can't understand not being able to do any repeatable at any level over the minimum.
-
Bear in mind this game is older than most of the current MMOs. Things other MMO's do they weren't doing when this was released.

Quote:No, just no. You have totally missed the point. All it means is that if you run it as a team only the people who have the arc (which CAN be everyone) will get it. It's just stopping people joining at the end of the arc for the last mission and getting the badge.Unwelcome change,
I welcome things that bring people off the farms... but this doesn't do that. Frankly this encourages the AE Babys to stay in AE and just makes it harder and more complex for my SG members and I to get everyone into an ITF with new characters, for example.
God Forbid we want to run the content there...
::sighs:: seriously Devs, EACH person has to run the arc themselves, you can't run it as a team anymore, we have to cure some 160 lost for an 8 man team, with a 5 second cool down that means we are down in the old sewers for AT LEAST 13 minutes plus the time to get to the Lost and back out... all spent in a place where the bad guys are no threat to us, and if we accidentally hit the wrong button we just wasted 10 or so potential targets...
You can't see how this is INCREDIBLY ANNOYING! -
I read both their responses as equally sarcastic as your original one.
I especially like:

Quote:It's a different logic. The badge for the Monague Arc is for completing the arc. The badge for the dimension warder is defeat badges. I don't know of any other arc badge awarded to anyone in the team that doesn't have the mission. What if they applied this same logic to getting the Dimensional Warder badge? "Only the mission holder will receive badge credit for any Praetorian AV/EB defeated."
I didn't know there was an "abandon the mission" exploit (I guess because I never used it) but it seems like they could have found a way to fix that and let people get the badge without requiring a character to run the entire arc. But oh well. -
Quote:Assuming you are asking to be able to use a Mid's build in game to respec etc it's because Mid's is a 3rd Party application that has no affiliation with Paragon Studios. It would be nice to be able to send ourself either to in game mail or real email , a char file for mids. I know that at 3rd party utility will let us do that, but why not offer it in game?
If you just want the data chunks in an email you can just copy and paste it in.
