On scrappers and brutes I damage auras immediately and differ all slots to them before all other powers. I actually get frustrated when I play scrappers that don't have a damage aura. I turn to minions thinking "Shouldn't you be dead?", then I remember "damn, no damage aura..."

Is this a new character or one you've already leveled up?
You may want to read DesertScorpion's Dark Dojo Guide. Yes it's old, but most the information he gives there remains current.
The order in which you selected your powers seems inadvisable as a leveling build. Powers like Obsidian Shield and Dark Regeneration should really be selected as soon as they are available. If your friend has been away from the game 2 years, it's not likely he can select Super Jump at level 10.
Several of your attacks seem slotted soley as set bonus mules. These should all be slotted for damage. Crane Kick is one of your most damaging attacks, but you've barely slotted it's damage. Crippling Axe kick has no damage slotting at all.
This build seems to rely very heavily on recharge, but the recharge is coming from Force Feedback: +recharge PROCs. This isn't very reliable and really won't make up for the lost damage output. Even if you got extremely lucky with these PROCs going off, you'd never sustain any attack chains as the builds recover is too low.
While you can run CoF and OG together, it's not typically recommended. OG is the favored choice with Martial Arts as you can stack stuns.
You should not skip Death Shroud. It's a very efficient attack and in many scenarios will be the highest damaging attack in the build.
I feel my critique is coming off rather harsh, but IMHO there are a lot of problems with this build. I'd recommend reading the DesertScorpion guide I linked above since it's an MA/DA build. You may also find the Dark Armor sections of my guide useful, but it's a DM/DA guide and a tad bit long. -
Quote:Nope I absolutely love my BS/DA. I'd really appreciate if you forward those PMs back to me. Beats the heck out of starting from scratch. I think the builds are on a damaged drive I have. If they're there, I can retrieve them...just have to re-install the damned thing.
And Des, I have a "Desnocta" build from you, dated 5/2/2008. Probably a bit older than what you're looking for, though. I probably also have one or more builds in my inbox. Hmmm, when I filter on you, nothing shows up. I swear I didn't delete them! Ah, looks like it's forgotten who a lot of my mail in from. Strange. OK, there, there's a bunch of stuff on Broad Sword/Dark Armor, looks like from you, starting 1/31/2009. Sound right? There's a build from you of which you say "Definitely not happy with it yet". And then another five hours later, "Interesting to see how much our choices differ, lol".Anyway, based on the messages themselves, you were only a few hours into the builds at that point. I can send them to you, but I bet they're way out of date unless you simply abandoned the concept after that.

Any time
Quote:AoE defense-wise, I actually wouldn't be able to use the Eradication bonus with the build as is, since I'm capped on 3.13 bonuses (Siphon Insight's is 3.75), but that wouldn't be an issue if I pulled a BotZ piece from one of the travel powers. I might have to look into that. I'd be "sacrificing" .62 AoE defense, but I think I could live with that. -
Werner, this is more your area, but isn't his recharge kind of low for AV fighting?
-
Sadly, I'm mildly annoyed as I write this post because I seem to have misplaced my BS/DA build, among others.
You've sacrificed AoE capability in order to achieve greater defense values. Not necessarily a bad choice, but certainly not a route I would want to take.
I'm trying to reconcile what you've done with Dark Regeneration with the level of defense your working with. I've had this debate with Werner prior. Basically you're siding with "I have enough defense to not rely on Dark Regeneration as often." I've considered doing something similar as an alternate build, but I never really liked as a primary build. The big draw back being the resulting builds have zero exemplar capability.
I'm somewhat impressed with how endurance friendly this build seems, but the 4th slot in Stamina really is overkill. You'd get better returns for that slot in health or Physical Perfection, same logic as ClawsandEffect was speaking to.
This is the part where I'm being a stick in the mudI still think you're short changing yourself with Death Shroud's damage not being fully enhanced. This where the build kind of falls apart for me. Yes Death Shroud can be effective against single targets, but it shines against multiple targets. The ToE Proc in Dark Regeneration also works best against multiple targets. With the amount of defense your packing, CoF really contributes little against single targets.
EDIT: Sorry, I missed the fact you had maxed out your 3.13% defense bonus. I removed the last line of my post because of this.
EDIT 2: Minor suggestion. IMHO damage procs in an aura are a waste due to the 10 second rule, (unless this changed recently?). Switching that PROC in Death Shroud to the Eradication: Damage would increase your Death Shroud damage without altering any of the other stats on your build. -
Quote:I can't tell you how many times I've had to explain I can't draw.Yeah it can certainly be a challenge.
I am aware you are not the artist... I clicked into the large version to view it up close so if I didn't already know that would have told me. I am just mentioning the suggestion to you cuz, well he's not here.
Yeah I am familiar with Paulo Barrios and have had him on watch since I saw his take on Invincibelle.
On a more selfish note, you still taking reference shots for 40 in 60? -
ahhhh shucks
On a slightly more serious note, part of the problem with Dark Melee is there so many different ways to play it. Often referred to as a "utility belt" primary, what you actually use depends largely on your secondary and IO sets you focus on. I think this contributes considerably as to why I still enjoy the set so much. After 5 years of playing DM/DA I'm still not bored of it. Granted I love my DM/DA character conceptually as well. The truth is my builds have changed so much over the years that the character always feels fresh. I could easily alter my build and play-style accordingly the instant I get bored. I should also acknowledge both DM and DA have been altered considerably over that time.
Presently (I'm not actively playing), my build omits Shadow Punch, Touch of Fear, and Dark Consumption. I am big advocate of stacking ToF and CoF but I haven't done so for nearly two years. I can remember a time where I would have laughed at the notion of skipping all these powers. I also recall phases where I found no use for Siphon Life. If I wanted to, I could easily alter my IO set bonus scheme and build the character completely differently with out sacrificing the character's concept or survivability (though strategies would change). I can't really say that for any other primary. -
Quote:For what ever reason, I interpreted Desmodas right arm as being restrained/affected by GW. Hence the discoloration not only of her powers but her entire fore arm, as seen in both versions of the piece.[color=darkorange][B][size=3][font=Palatino Linotype] That is a great piece Des.
The one thing that is a little unclear to me (it's visible in the really large version) at this size, is Des's right arm.
There is a lot of black/dark gray that makes it tricky to follow and the powers fx at the hands adds a bit to the confusion.
GW has that teal color on bother her hands but Des has pink/purple on one hand and blue/white on the other... is she meant to wield a different power in each hand?
Quote:Perhaps, as a suggestion, a sheen line (like the ones on GW calves) running along GW's thigh that ends at Des's shoulder then reappears at GW's knee. Having a broken white line will clearly show that there is something there in front of her leg. Otherwise some of the teal fx reflecting off GW's thigh might do it too. The white light is reflecting off her (latex?)suit but all the effects are only visible in the air.
I do think Paulo Barrios tried to reconcile some choices since both GW and Desmodas have so much black in their costumes. I was planning on getting several Desmodas vs Ghost Widow pieces done by various artists, but black on black color scheme presents lots of problems. -

Basically, I want a new forum banner. I've made two; the first one got me in trouble (don't ask) and the 2nd one is what I'm currently using. Both took me absurd amounts of time to do...because I don't know what I'm doing. So I'm turning to the artisticly talented folks.
I'm making this an 'open art request' because I don't actually know what I want. A scrolling montage of various pieces from my budding collection or a completely original piece could would work. This type of indecision usually leads me to select more than one.
So any artists free and/or interested?
As always, all negotiations need to be in PMs and/or e-mail. -
Anyone who has Paulo Barrios on deviantArt watch may have already seen a version of this. His original version had Desmodas in a very green costume. While I thought it looked really good, I felt it really wasn't a Desmodas color. At my request, he adjusted the colors for this darker version.
The perspective of this piece seems to throw people, myself included. I flipped around a few times but ultimately I really liked it.

It's not the easiest cone to use, but with a little practice, you can line up 2-3 mobs fairly easily. You could set it up for 5, but it not worth the effort, but occasionally it will happen accidentally anyways. Those are the moments when my friends are wishing they were not on vent with me.

I usually have something on Auto, usually brawl. A bit of carry over from playing a brute. I tend to mash buttons rather quickly, so the auto rarely actually goes off, as I tend to forget about it. As my characters gain more and more recharge, I tend to forget powers I should be using vs the big hitters. An auto attack helps me break that mentality.
-
Actually, I couldn't stop giggling once I got Disembowel, Head Splitter was just icing on the cake...until I realized it was cone. At that point I fell out of my chair. BS/DA may not be the best combo numbers wise (Kat/DA looks better on paper), IMHO it qualifies as sheer unadulterated fun.

What the hell happened here?

I miss the good ol' days when devs posted information...

That power sucks from the greatest pits of hell. It's actually worst than that but I can't muster the effort properly articulate it with out extensive usage of profanity.
There are two solutions for this power, both of which you're likely well aware of.- 1) Target mobs that cast Mask of Vitation as quickly as possible. Opening with an AoE KB, like Torrent, is a crappy solution, but it works...some times.
- 2) Kidnap Castle and hold him hostage until he agrees to include some resistance to this power along with Dark Armor's end drain resistance. While your at it, get him to fix CoF

Can't speak for other servers, but on Victory this is by far the most effective way of forming teams. Yes, these channels tend to get filled with a lot of chatter, but most players keep an eye on them in case someone's starting something they want to get in on. On Victory, outside a list of personal friends, anything else is a waste of time.

My comments were intended as humor
...I always forget the frakking smilies
...oh well.
Quote:And (here's another joke! ) I'm not sure I need to get out more. If it's normal for people to want to be a demon (succubus) or want to date a girl that could suck your soul out and has bat wings (I can't remember the bio of some of your characters, so I'm joking off the cuff here), I should be purchasing a shotgun with lots of ammo and boarding the door shut! Hmmmm, though I suppose all those freaky Twilight moms fall on this category, too!
Excuse me while I go get a shotgun and some 2 x 4s!

If you really think so, you need to get out more.
Quote:Though I suppose I wouldn't mind having super powers, so I'll play along.
If Viv meant more in terms of having their powers, then my answer differs. I would definitely want to be a DM/WP scrapper. I would definitely run around doing crazy stunts with minimal concern for injury. I don't think I'd ever hit anyone, just knowing that I could is enough (ok that's partially true now.) I would use ToF to scare the **** out of certain people...daily. The only thing I would change would be the ability to do reverse a ToF. I can think of several situations I frequently deal with in which removing someones fear and anxiety would be fantastic.
