I must be careful how I word this story.
Based off of a movie called "teeth"
There is a fear that all men fear. Where the Colgate Lady of the Dark, will come on Halloween, and take their man hood from them. She will do it by having a surprise in her sarlacc pit, that surprise, will be teeth!!!
No one knows why she does this. Some say it's because she is an evil women who hates men, others say she is a vampire and has a taste for it. No one will ever know.
That is all I can say and I will leave it up to you to decipher. -
I honestly don't think you should spend a lot of money on your stone. The stones can be the bomb and don't need IO's. They come right out of the box super uber strong. Plus if you spec out your stone, he/she may not see a difference because it already is so strong. Yeah some IO's are good like for your travel power but you don't need to waste millions on a tank that doesn't need it. You will find more improvement in your Invul than in your stone.
Don't get me wrong, a stone would be nice to have the recharge IO's, and would be cheaper; but you seem not to care about price and I think Invul will have a much more noticable difference with IO's. -
So Tenacious T, After all these damn AT wars going on in your thread, did you find one that your wife can be absolutely horrid at?

Quote:We know the real problem.....it's all that porn you keep watching loljk
...just sits there at 'Downloading', and never actually starts...ideas, anyone? :\
If you still have the games Disks I would reinstall the entire thing, also take in consideration that there will be a huge, huge, HUGE!!!! patch. So before u reinstall everything try running the launcher and leaving for a half an hour and see if it's made any progress.
Your pulse capacitor may be blown.
EDIT: Don't take my advice just yet, there may be someone who knows what the hell their talking about and might reply to you. -
Quote:ROFL your funny, no it's not. just put in your search comment your powers if your that worried. I know people that name their toons with the word healer in them and they can't heal at all lol.Im thinking of making a toon with Earth control and am going to give him a name with "Winter" in it. Im changing the customization all to crytals, and not taking anything Ice at all.... Is it false advertising? Sure... I can see how some people might want a Ice/Ice or somthing, but If i show up with a Earth control does that make me a bad person?

For the most part I think fly; you can get anywhere, you have stealth if you max it out with the IOs of souring and freebird, you look cool, you can slot it so you never lose any end. which is a problem with TP. That's just my opinion though, it just happens to be the slowest of them all but I don't really care because it goes fast enough for me lol.
Super speed is the 2nd. fastest but you have to deal with running around buildings and running around stairs and that can be a hassle, especially if your in villains.
I hate Superjump with a passion, it may be faster then flight but, well it's hard to explain, you experience this annoying problem when trying to get to high places, for example the AE door up top. and the vertical limitations and a whole bunch of other things. It's great for PvP though.
Teleport uses alot of END but is the fastest and great if your a stone tanker. Also takes some skill when using it which you probably had to learn since you have it.
ALL the travel powers are preference though and there really isn't one that is the "best". They are all pretty balanced. Hell, I have a friend with just Fitness and 3slots in hurdle, swift and 6slots in sprint, she gets around okay but she does this because of the story and it's iconic to her character.
EDIT: Also flight is nice because you hit auto run key and you can walk away from the computer while your toon flies to the mission. You can't do that with the other Travel powers that's for sure. -
I joined sometime in 2005 and my second toon ever was a Fire/Fire tank, and guess what...I STILL PLAY IT!!! It's gotta be my favorite build even with all the ******* nerfs lol.
-
I would normally say Fire/fire tank but, there's not a lot of flexibility in it "anymore" because of all the damn nerfs lol. I still have a lot of fun with it and fire fire probably uses the most tactics of all the tanks but it's nice to have something with a little bit more strength in it without having to go to the pool powers. Shield/Fire has always sounded like a good combo to me, if you want to go the offensive damage way.
If your looking for a good strong and durable tank go with Invul. or WP.
Then there is the stone tanker....lol The tank that doesn't die but relys heavily on his teammates for damage and the holy SB!!!
A lot of options and really any tanker can be turned into a team tank, I mean they kinda are built for it since this is a "MMO" The most fun and probably best way to go I think is with shield armor and have a really good damage power set like FIRE!!
EDIT: also Fire/Ice tankers are great once they get their burn and ice patch thing lol

Thank you, I hope you have a great Nevada day as well lol

Why is everyone against Absorb Pain? I have it on my empath and love it! Yeah you can't heal yourself while you throw it off but it saves people's lives. In my opinion I think that is one of the major key powers of an Empathy.
If your excuse is that you die every time you throw it off that's a load of crap lol. I manage to throw it off and survive just fine. The more healers we have being selfish and trying to keep themselves alive instead of the team the cruddier our teams are going to get.
For EX: When someone runs in without the team being ready absorb pain can really help you keep that person alive while the tank runs in and grabs the aggro off the dude.
I'm just saying that people shouldn't be so against Absorb Pain, it can become a very useful power if used right. I mean you would take unstoppable on your invul. scrapper correct? well when that power runs out you have NO end. or hp. That is much worse than Absorb pain if you ask me lol. -
Alright, love some jesus killing natzi ACTION!!!!!

Quote:EDIT: ignore my post and grats on the decision.I'm sorry but this is not very good advice. First, at level 15 everything sucks, because you don't have SOs yet. Second, at level 15 WP will appear to be a thousand times better than Invuln, because WP will already have Rise to the Challenge and Quick Recovery, respectively the keystone mitigation power of the set and an endurance recovery power, while Invuln will still be 3 levels away from Invincibility, 5 levels from Stamina, and 11 levels from Tough Hide. WP offers a vastly smoother low-level experience for Tankers; Invuln needs more time for its layered mitigation to mature, but eventually offers comparable and situationally superior protection, and a vastly better aggro aura. It's not just mag 4 vs mag 3: threat is the product of (among other factors) taunt magnitude and duration, and Invince has a 16.88 second duration compared to RTTC's 1.25 second duration. WP tanks can hold aggro, but it's a much more active process.
In general, and particularly when comparing WP and Invuln, 15 is a terrible level to be making comparisons. -
Really I prefer Invulnerability because I honestly thing it's stronger(not that much though) There are a lot of people that go WP these days too, so maybe mix it up? well there are a lot of people going invul too. This thread can go on for days, But if this helps since you said you want to go themed. Go WP because unless you are a super soldier, it makes more sense to have the "Strength of Will" then to be like super man.
Sorry if that doesn't help, there really isn't much difference in them strength wise, they play different though if that helps any. Make a WP on a server you don't play on normally and get to 15, then do the same except with an invul. That will help you choose, read into the powers as well.
Good luck, and I know this post is a tough one and may not help that much, but this thread is one of the tougher questions lol. -
Quote:Yeah I gotta completely agree, Ive heard stories of all tanks being able to do it, I wouldn't worry so much as what the build is but What are you best playing with. If you know how to play your tank you can do anything in this game that's what makes it so great. This game has always been really balanced(yeah they nerf a lot but they nerf ALL the classes)Every kind of Tank can be made able to take on Recluse and live to tell about it with practically any team mix, in some really seemingly harsh mixes, the results could be very surprisingly successful if you play to eachothers strengths.
One could be amazed at the amount of stuff that isn't common knowledge so keep experimenting.
I'd have success with all Primaries.
Now I have a really kick midget bottom build if you want to try it out. BTW this build requires NO IOs.
Stone tanker build
-stone armor-
Stone skin
Earth's Embrace
Mud pots
rooted
granite armor
-Fighting-
boxing
tough
weave
-Fitness-
Swift
health
stamina
Just try it out if you are looking for an easy tanker, but like I said any tanker can do it as long as they know how to play their tank. -
Dude that's friggin' awesome!!! First time I have ever heard of something like that lol You guys deserve the ultimate of all gratz, GRITS;-)

Quote:Well that's why I have power build up, it increases all my healing and all that stuff. I just throw that off then throw off RAs and Fort. May not be as good as hasten or it may be better, but it's good enough for me and the team. Very few ppl die when im the healer, although your prolly right, I would do better with hasten then tp.The Hasten isn't for rapidfire healing because that is rarely needed with diligent buffing. Hasten in the build with ED-capped rech in Fort, Adrenalin Boost, and Regen Aura, which are the backbone of Empathy's proactive protection playbook. An additional +70% rech on these buffs allow for a substantial savings in player energy, freeing them from a ridiculous quantity of reactive health-bar babysitting, and liberating them to apply an additional fistful of team damage to the hapless villains.
What is your main use of TP. Is it commuting your team to the mission door, or is it body retrieval? Trading in Recall friend for Hasten, gives you your big guns much more quickly.
Saying people are too reliant on Hasten, is like saying "People are too reliant on electricity."
But when there is that one guy that is trying to get a free ride, or is causing the team to wipe, it is always nice to fly up above a huge mob and tp him from the sky to the mob and watch him die right before I kick him from the team lol
You're prolly right but I think I am just fine the way I have my build and my teams don't die unless there is the situation pointed out in the paragraph above. So it's not a fail, more of not the best but still good lol
-Nice avatar btw. -
-
I find that Tp friend is more important and I prefer flight as my travel power because of hover for defense. Also fitness is needed no matter what and I chose leadership over hasten because 4 powers is better then one.
Hasten is nice to have because empaths need to focus on recharge recharge recharge and heal but I don't need hasten. I honestly think people have become to reliant on hasten. -
Quote:really good point here.thing is in this game their is no direct heal role let me explain. Or gonna be doing more things then heal you should be doing
A.heal/buff/light damage
B.heal/debuff/damage
C.Heal/buff /control
D.heal/debuff/control
see people that do heal also do other things all the the same time. Just heal your gonna be only using a third of your power at most. Don't fall into the *healer* role -
It's really not that hard unless you are trying to get IOs and all that crap. This is what I run on my empathy.
-Empathy-
ALL THE POWERS!!! lol
-Archery-
Snap shot
Snipe(something like that, just shows how much I use it.)
RoA
-Fitness-
Swift
Health
Stamina
-Flight-
Hover
Fly
-Leadership-
ALL the powers
-Teleportation-
Tp friend
-Power mastery-
Conserve power
Power build up
MY SECRET!
power mastery and fitness fix all my end problems. And the fact Almost everything in Empathy is six slotted(besides things like fort. clear mind, and rez.)
Yep thats it, no IO's really besides that I have numina something lol. and doctored wounds. oh and not to forget the fly maxed out with IOs.
I have never really had a problem with endurance really. Maybe because all I do is heal and not attack unless RA is up. -
God I hope not I prefer my controllers to be controllers and hold the groups down and debuff the mobs while buffing me, not healing me.
-
Quote:I wouldn't say healers are pointless. They have a use and they help the team a lot. I do agree with your statement about trollers not needing to be helaers because of their role....
You realize you can't have more than one AoE heal, right? So to be an "AoE healer" means you'll set follow on the Tank, put Healing Aura on auto and then get up and leave the room because it'll get BORING.
Also, insert standard rant HERE about how healing in this game is overrated and unnecessary and how making a "healer"* is totally pointless. ESPECIALLY if you're a controller, who's job it is to prevent your teammates for even taking damage in the first place.
However, if that's what you really want to do, the only Controller primary that'll help your cause is Plant; it has Spirit tree, which increases the Regen rate of all nearby allies. None of the other controller powersets have anything that'll add to your healing abilities.
*: Note that "healer" =/= Empath. Empathy has other great tools that aren't direct heals, but help the team be more productive and thus ensuring that they don't need to be healed as much in the first place.
What he could do since he wants to be AoE healer on his troller, is just make two builds like we can now. One build=healer and second build=troller. -
Quote:Well if you go pure empathy your only going to have one AoE heal. Now if you want to be a troller healer you won't be as good as a emp/rad defender but you can still go pure empathy and do some major healing.Hey there, I have a level 30 or so Gravity/Empathy healer aptly modeled after Jesus XD and of course, I want him to be a healer. (No, he can't cure your blindness.)
A question I had was how effective a Grav/Emp build could even possibly be for team healing, as I want to make him more of an AoE healer as opposed to a single target healer. Also, what are some good builds for this kind of thing, if any.
As I said before though, Emps only have one AoE heal and then they also have their AoE RAs. That's really as much as an emp gets AoE wise. If you do get those RAs I would get hasten so you can have them recharging really fast, that way you can have RA up almost all the time. So with both RAs up and your AoE heal your team shouldn't die. -
Welcome back bro. So When I came back I posted something similar but it was more "They killed me" lol Now unlike most people, I play my main(fire fire) Daily and it's all I play because I just can't let it go.
Fire Fire still uses the same tactics when you are going into a battle but they have done some major nerfs. Burn does half the damage it use to and no matter how much taunt you have, they are going to run back and forth scattering throughout your burn. FYI
Power wise- I suggest taking Tough and Weave, we need it badly now, it's pathetic. Also us fire fire tanks have to handle our kb protection and there's two main ways to do that. Acrobatics, or IO's. Now if you go the acrobatics path it's right up your neighborhood in the leaping pool. hell you probably have it. Anyways If you choose acro you are covered on kb and it's cheap, but if you go the IO you better get ready to spend money.
Now this is just preference from one tank to another about our IO's and that is," Do not get set bonused IO's and slot them in your shields, you will take a hit if you do and fire fire tank does not need that."
Good news about fire fire tank lol is that we still are one of the most highly DPS doing tanks out there. I prefer to play my fire fire tank by getting AoEs and DoTs with a lil greater fire sword thrown in there lol. I do this because I think it's easier to hold down aggro like this.
I think that's all the advice you really need. The only thing I didn't really mention is an exact build out(which I won't give you because I just don't believe in that kinda stuff) and that fire fire tanks don't really need that many IO's. I find after awhile I do better without them, so I only have 5 or 6 of them.
Again WB and hope you can find the beauty in the fire/fire tank again lol.
EDIT: here's the thread I started when I got back, had a lot of good advice towards fire fire tanks.
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=186239 also I totally forgot to tell you that you need fitness lol total must. As you can tell they have nerfed us too much, I mean I don't even have room for mastery powers anymore lol. -
Quote:LOL well I actually have a lvl 50 emp/arhery and heres her build real quick:I am one of the many who feels that teams looking for 'healers' are somewhat ignorant about game mechanics and, especially after level 12, a pure healer is something that is not as useful as most other type of defenders.
Now, we often hear a lot of anecdotal evidence on these boards about the healers being praised for their selfless act of having one attack, the medicine pool, leadership and Empathy heals to the detriment of their own character's soloability.
So, my proposal is that a few of us embark on the quest to be pure healers for a bit and track the actualy responses we get and how our play sessions go. Let's play to the best of our ability within the basic healing framework.
As far as allowable powers, I'm thinking we can all be Emp/Archery or Emp/Psi and we will take ALL of our heals and resurrect powers. We will get medicine. I'm thinking Clear Mind is fine but I'm still undecided on Fortitude, as I think we run the risk of losing our True Healer status. Leadership and Teleport are fair game.
What say ye? Are you up to the challenge of being a h34l0r?
Empathy-
Pure empath
Archery-
First attack
Snipe
RoA
Leadership-
All of it
TP-
TP friend
Fitness-
Swift
Health
Stamina
Flight-
Hover
Fly
Power Mastery-
conserve power
power Build up
I have gotten some major compliments (paid once) as being a pure empath with only three attacks. Now granted a Emp/Rad can out do me, but I am still a favored healer. I have saved so many lives because I am not attacking unless I have RA off and I throw off RoA or I am sniping to pull.
So is that all this experiment is about?
EDIT: I also made this character in 05' and recently just hit 50 with her. It's not particularly FUN and that's why I don't play her that much she is more just there if a team is so handicapped that we need her.
