okay so im a week 1 fire/fire tank. started playing at relase of game and played till Ouroboros came out, then I took a break for awhile.

So my main character has always been a fire/fire tank, and I am really lost.

I could use some help getting caught back up to date, would be much appreciated.

How do I need to slot powers? Are IO's still way to go? Any TF's give stuff I need? Do any IO Power Sets make it worth it?

Alot of Questions but I guess will start with what I just asked.

Thank you again.

Long Live CoX.

First off, welcome back!

Secondly, I would download Mid's Hero Planner. This will allow you to plan out a character before going in-game with them, to see what you want to/can do with the character.

Secondly, what do you want to be able to do with your Fire/Fire Tanker? Do you just want to Tank for mid-sized teams, or do you want to really push yourself? PvP? PvE? Knowing what you want to do can help us help you out.

Secondly, IOs are generally seen as the best way to go, especially in the later levels. Without knowing exactly what you want to do, I'd vote for sets that increase Melee Defense and Recharge. You can also use some IOs to help with the Knockback Problem (Steadfast Protection: -Mag KB [Resistance set], and whatever the one is for Defense) can help, and free up a power pick, since you can drop Acrobatics.

Secondly, TFs now give you Merits, which can also be gotten from doing story arcs and fighting GMs, among other things. Merits can be used to purchase IOs and other good stuff from merit vendors. So you might want to check that out.

Secondly, take a gander over at the ParagonWiki. It has a lot of useful information, including info on the various IO sets and their bonuses.

Hope that helps a bit!

my power sets include Fa/Fm, Speed, Leaping, and Energy Mastery.

in the beginning I could do it all, but fire/fire went through alot of changes over the years.

PvE will probably be where I will stay for a couple months until I get a grasp on new mechanics.

I used to be able to farm entire mishes yet now Im having problems with elite bosses.
Acrobatics helps with knockback when its on I rarely get off my feet.

I would like to be able to go up against an av again but I think they finally changed to where you need a team to go against an AV?

We're still going to need to know a lot more before we can really offer you suggestions. As I mentioned, getting Mid's will help, and you can put together your current build, and then people can help you out with some suggestions.

But it's very hard for us to tell you where to go if we don't know where you are.

Not much has changed to Fire Armor or Melee since you were last here, that I know of. I don't know why all that much has changed for you since then. The only thing I can think of is they sped up the Recharge on the heal, so that should have HELPED you, not hurt you, against Elite Bosses. Where are you fighting them? Is it only a few of them, or all of the ones you've gone against?

Okay, a few suggestions:

1) While Mid's will allow you to take a travel power at level 6 now, that is only because 60+ month Vets have that ability. You will NOT be able to take Super Speed at level 10, and you will need to take Hasten first, if you don't have 60+ months of Vet time.

2) Your Armors (Fire Shield and Plasma Shield), unless you have sets in them, are over-slotted. With just SOs or common IOs, four slots is fine: 3 DamRes, 1 EndRed.

3) Healing Flames needs more slots. With just SOs or common IOs, you'll want 3 Heals, 3 RecRed.

4) Acrobatics needs few slots. Just put one in, and fill up both slots with EndRed. Even then, if you can afford a Steadfast Protection: KB Protection IO, you can put them in your basic armors, and be fine without Acrobatics.

5) Unless you are planning on PvP, you don't need two travel powers. I'd choose one or the other, and you'll be fine.

6) Drop Jump Kick. It's a horrible power, really. Unless you want it for 'coolness', it's a pretty big waste. Combat Jumping, on the other hand, is a fine power, and will help fill your Immobilized hole that your set has.

7) I would strongly suggest getting the Fitness pool, and going for Stamina.

I'm sure that others with more knowledge of these two sets will be along shortly, but that's just what I saw on a casual glance.

For your fire/fire, stamina is a MUST. No if, ands, buts about it. You NEED it. Physical Perfection is your APP's is only half of stamina's value, and consume will just let you keep going w/o stopping. You WILL need to slot in stamina.

One reason of many - you will be attacking with a lot of AoE's and a cone. Even slotting the most end redux in those powers you will still see a heft toll of end usage after using them over and over... especially with your ST attacks... and ESPECIALLY with focused accuracy

Welcome back bro. So When I came back I posted something similar but it was more "They killed me" lol Now unlike most people, I play my main(fire fire) Daily and it's all I play because I just can't let it go.

Fire Fire still uses the same tactics when you are going into a battle but they have done some major nerfs. Burn does half the damage it use to and no matter how much taunt you have, they are going to run back and forth scattering throughout your burn. FYI

Power wise- I suggest taking Tough and Weave, we need it badly now, it's pathetic. Also us fire fire tanks have to handle our kb protection and there's two main ways to do that. Acrobatics, or IO's. Now if you go the acrobatics path it's right up your neighborhood in the leaping pool. hell you probably have it. Anyways If you choose acro you are covered on kb and it's cheap, but if you go the IO you better get ready to spend money.

Now this is just preference from one tank to another about our IO's and that is," Do not get set bonused IO's and slot them in your shields, you will take a hit if you do and fire fire tank does not need that."

Good news about fire fire tank lol is that we still are one of the most highly DPS doing tanks out there. I prefer to play my fire fire tank by getting AoEs and DoTs with a lil greater fire sword thrown in there lol. I do this because I think it's easier to hold down aggro like this.

I think that's all the advice you really need. The only thing I didn't really mention is an exact build out(which I won't give you because I just don't believe in that kinda stuff) and that fire fire tanks don't really need that many IO's. I find after awhile I do better without them, so I only have 5 or 6 of them.

Again WB and hope you can find the beauty in the fire/fire tank again lol.

EDIT: here's the thread I started when I got back, had a lot of good advice towards fire fire tanks.
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=186239 also I totally forgot to tell you that you need fitness lol total must. As you can tell they have nerfed us too much, I mean I don't even have room for mastery powers anymore lol.

first thanks a ton for all the info, you can scan and scan forums but feedback from others is always the best.

will take a lot of this into effect and do next build here soon to make sure i am on a better path.

a little tid bit from be regarding burn and keeping enemies close by in it. immediately after burn, do consume, or fire breath/fire sword circle. keeps em near by.

about the 2 travel speeds. i just always liked the effect, and back in the day, the fire/fire tanker was THE person to have in your group, so I could afford the 2 travels.

thanks again.
