  2. Or whatever it's called.

When I bought Going Rogue, I just clicked on the button at my character select screen. It was all like "You give us the moneys?" and I say "Yes plz" and I has the Going Rogue. There was not a button for a version that costs $10 more and includes goodies.

I would have given NCSoft my 10 dollars for the costume slots and bonus power. Hell, I give them money for those things all the time. If I had known such a thing existed, that is what I would have bought.

So, NCSoft, would you like ten dollars? I would like to give you ten dollars for these goodies I have seen.

I don't even know what to say. If a country has laws so strict that required equipment cannot be used for an Olympic sport, that country should not qualify to host the Olympic games. Bad enough they had to neuter the fencing foils.

An no, lasers do not simulate a firearm. Response to recoil, taking gravity and wind into account, even the nature of the mechanical trigger and issues with proper maintenance and dealing with a misfire, are all important parts of the sport. Bicycles are dangerous too, maybe we should put them all on stationary bikes. That's a fair simulation, right?

Few oppressive systems are overturned without outside influence. In a culturally isolated, self-sufficient environment, I don't see why an oppressive regime couldn't last forever with an immortal dictator. Look at Cuba: Castro has been in power for decades upon decades, despite being only human, lacking a mind-controlling ally, and with the US's toe heavy set on the scale against them. By comparison, Praetoria is supremely isolated, with only the Primal Earth as a significant force for change. They can keep the population in line with Mother's seers, and Cole will never age, never get ill, and cannot reasonably be assassinated.

Why hasn't Castro been overthrown? Why have the children of the 60s, 70s, and 80's now all grown to adulthood without claiming their freedom? What will change in the next generation or two that will make the difference? Further, what happens when there's nobody left alive who can tell their grandchildren of a time before Cole, the God-King? What could change when each generation hears less and less of "freedom" while Cole's thought-control technology simply becomes more and more advanced.

What does Castro have that Cole needs? If Castro can do it, Cole should have no problem.
  6. I'm not sure what Sirocco is doing in Crucible, or Manticore's doing in Fort Trident, if those places are just for the extremes of alignment. Sirocco is a pretty archtypical rogue, ditto on Manticore as vigilante.

I don't disagree with you, but where do we draw that line? How much freedom is enough? Is the state of Texas evil because it limits a citizen's freedom to exceed 75 mph on the highway? Is the city of Chicago evil because it's citizens are not free to throw their waste onto the streets? Is the federal government evil because it bans the possession of child pornography?

As long as we have some form of government, we will be giving up some freedom for safety. Unless you think the above examples are "evil" you agree with this. The debate is where to draw the line. It's a debate that's going on in the United States right now in fact: should the government have the right to compel a citizen to purchase health insurance? Some people don't care, some people think they should, while others think it's 'evil.' The world isn't as black and white as people would like to believe.

Evil requires intent to harm; Cole believes he is helping people by eliminating harmful thoughts from them. He rules over them because he really truly believes he's the best man for the job. He's just too willing to believe the government should control every aspect of life for the good of everyone; that isn't evil, that's just a philosophy you disagree with.
  9. In roleplaying terms, the difference between City of Heroes and City of Villains is that of good versus evil. The conflict in Praetoria, by contrast, is Law versus Chaos.

Things like drugging the population into submission and policing thought are the concept of law (society's control over individuals) taken to the extreme, but is not inherently evil. That's not to say it isn't bad, but then again I rather think federally run healthcare is bad as well... but it doesn't make it evil, just too much law.
  10. I'm interested in what could replace the placate/placate or taunt mechanic that's implemented in this version of the set (which predates Bodyguard mode)

    Some ideas:

More efficient bodyguarding: You shift more damage to your henchment while in bodyguard mode, taking the same amount that each henchman takes (plus you have one more henchman than other masterminds)

Medium Chance of a Fear Effect with Project Image, Manifest Image, Image Onslaught, and Image Barrage (including henchmen versions)

Small Chance to generate a Copy (short-lived brawling pet) with Project Image, Manifest Image, Image Onslaught, and Image Barrage (including henchmen versions) IE, the image will sometimes stabilize and stick around for a few seconds.

    Other thoughts?
  11. The distinction between chemicals we ingest or otherwise introduce to our bodies from external sources and the chemicals out own bodies produce in response to stimuli is largely artificial.

Certain behaviors trigger unique chemical responses. Gambling creates tension and a feeling of elation; this is a chemical response. Just as people can become dependent on nicotine, caffeine, heroin, or any other drug, people can become addicted to the chemicals released during gambling. Research is showing that MMORPGs create a very similar chemical response to gambling.

I'm not surprised by this suit, though I don't agree with it's merits, it was only a matter of time before someone stepped up to that plate.

This is one of the more widely believed "The devs said X" myths. This has never been a real concern.
  13. When I first posted this, a long time ago, most of the criticism was that technical limitations would prevent it from working. However, the new doppleganger tech has given me an urge to repost it.

I'll also note that the taunt/placate mechanism built into the set predated the bodyguard system: it's no longer as useful as it would have been. Also, newer Mastermind secondary powersets aren't represented in the Doppleganger's possible powers.

The set focuses on quantity over quality, with an extra tier 1 henchman and a spamable "throwaway" pet as the "bonus" power.

Visually, the duplicates would look just like you, with a few limitations. Before being upgraded, your henchmen would have totally featureless faces, flat skin toned nothingness where a face should be, and no hair. With the first upgrade they get the a vague outline of a face and they get hair. The final upgrade gives your henchmen your full face.

    Self Duplication-
Through means not well understood, you have the strange ability to create duplicates of yourself. These clones deal smashing damage and have no innate resistances but make up for it with superior numbers and the ability to replace fallen duplicates. The confusing nature of these clones gives their attacks a chance to taunt or placate, as opponents easily lose track of which one they are fighting. Your own attacks have a chance to placate as well.

A note that the placate effect here is a simple removal of aggro, there is no "hide" effect.

Project Image- (Ranged, Minor Smashing Damage, Placate) You create a single temporary clone next to an opponent. The clone delivers a single punch and vanishes, dealing minor smashing damage. A confusing attack, it has a chance to placate an opponent.

Create Clone- (Summon Clones) Creates 2-4 clones of yourself (depending on your level) Basic clones, they have very limited attack capability. Each attack they make has a chance to placate and a chance to taunt.
    Starting Attacks:
Brawl- Melee, Minor Smashing Damage, Taunt, Placate
Boxing- Melee, Moderate Smashing Damage, Stun, Taunt, Placate
    Upgrade 1:
Kick- Melee, Moderate Smashing Damage, Knockback, Taunt, Placate
    Health- +Regen
    Upgrade 2-
    Challenge- Ranged, Taunt
    Weave- Self +Defense

Manifest Images- (Ranged, Modearte Smashing DoT, Placate) You create several temporary duplicates by a foe, who pummel him with several sequential strikes. Like other attacks of this nature, it has a chance to placate.

Improve Duplicates- (Ranged, Improve Duplicates) You take some time to improve the quality of your summoned duplicates, giving them more advanced attacks and abilities.

Image Onslaught- (PBAoE Moderate Smashing DoT, Placate) Focusing your power, you replicate yourself many times over, pummeling all enemies in an area around you with several temporary duplicates of yourself. This attack is confusing, and can placate enemies.

Create Replicants- (Summon Replicants) Creates 1-2 Replicants (based on your level) to bolster your forces. Replicants are duplicates of you that can generate even more duplicates themselves. Like other duplicates, attacks by your replicants can placate or taunt.
    Starting Attacks:
Project Image- Ranged, Minor Smashing Damage, Placate, Taunt
Manifest Images- Ranged, Moderate Smashing DoT, Placate, Taunt
    Upgrade 1:
    Placate- Ranged, Placate
Copy- Summon Copy. (Copys are poor quality brawling pets that last a very short time)
    Upgrade 2:
Image Barrage- Cone Moderate Smashing DoT, Taunt, Placate
Replace Clone- Summon Clone (Will only activate this power in response to a dead Clone)

Copy- (Summon Copy) A quick and dirty duplicate, copies are quite weak, but can be created quickly and often. Dim-witted, copies will not follow orders like normal henchmen and will only last a short while before vanishing. Recharge: Fast
    Starting Attacks:
Brawl- Melee, Minor Smashing Damage, Taunt, Placate

Create Doppleganger- (Summon Doppleganger) You create a near-perfect replica of yourself. The doppleganger has access to some of the powers of your secondary power pool, even if you yourself have not taken them.
    Starting Attacks:
Manifest Images- Ranged, Moderate Smashing DoT, Taunt, Placate
Secondary Power #1- Twilight Grasp, Force Bolt, Alkaloid, Web Grenade, Gale or Entangling Arrow
Secondary Power #2- Tar Patch, Deflection Shield, Envenom, Caltrops, O2 Boost or Flash Arrow
    Upgrade 1:
Image Barrage- Cone, Moderate Smashing DoT, Taunt, Placate
Secondary Power #3- Darkest Night, Insulation Shield, Weaken, Triage Beacon, Snow Storm or Glue Arrow
Secondary Power #4- Howling Twilight, Detention Field, Neurotoxic Breath, Acid Mortar, Steamy Mist or Ice Arrow
    Upgrade 2:
Replace Replicant- Summon Replicant (Will only activate this power in response to a dead Replicant)
Secondary Power #5- Shadow Fall, Personal Force Field, Elixer of Life, Force Field Generator, Freezing Rain or Poison Gas Arrow
Secondary Power #6- Fearsome Stare, Dispersion Bubble, Antidote, Poison Trap, Hurricane or Acid Arrow

Perfect Duplicates- (Ranged, Perfect Duplicates) You mentally impart more knowledge to your duplicates, giving them even more impressive abilities.

This could actually be enhanced by a duplicate. You walk into a room, and see him smashing up Nemesis bots, then he runs up to you, and says "aha! I found the automaton!" (or something written much better) and proceeds to wail on you. When you beat him/her, it's clear this is either the best automaton Nemesis has ever built... or it was the real you.

I don't have any problem with that. Hell, I'm fine with there being several different ways to unlock the feature. Hell, you could craft it, or get it with 500 unique PvP kills for all I care. Everybody's got a different way of playing, the actual methood of unlocking the content isn't really the intended focus of discussion.

i say pointless cos changes to the Incarnate system on a huge scale is not going to happen. sorry
I'll note we've had systems make it further in the development process then Incarnates did just to wind up scrapped or drastically altered.

That's great, but they have a whole team of people including our former lead dev being paid to do nothing but work on the incarnate system. I think they've got it covered.
By that logic, this whole forum is irrelevant. Really, what don't they have covered? We're the infinite moneys, they're Shakespeare. Take this forum any more seriously than that, and you're doing it wrong.
  16. Most of you know an incarnate system was being worked on for release with Going Rogue, but it didn't make the cut. Effectively, it was a means by which you could get (read: grind for) drops to over-enhance your powers. It wasn't much fun.

    My concept:

At level 50 you do a particular task force, one designed for this purpose, probably where you get to the Well of the Furies to get all souped up on it. Maybe Recluse and Statesman team up to stop you, I dunno.

Anyway, when you win, you become a Level 1 Incarnate, which means this: you pick another power set, and one power from it (either the first or second choice, as if it were a primary power set)

You remain a level 50, but as your incarnate level increases, each level you gain can either be used to choose a new power from your incarnate power set or pick a new incarnate power set. So a level 50 Blaster/10 Incarnate might have two incarnate power sets with 5 powers from each or one Incarnate power set with all 9 powers and a second with just 1.
  17. Trotting around Praetoria, I noticed a lack of normal dayjob locations: The trams don't give the normal "Commuter" bonus, and the police stations don't give Law Enforcer. The only dayjob I was able to land was "Banker".

Is employment really that hard to find in Emperor Cole's utopia? Say it ain't so!
  18. The problem is, we have a very hard time creating a cost/benefit analysis of unlikely events with severe consequences. It's the same phenomenon that led us to under-prepare for the oil leak in the gulf. The more unlikely the event the less we prepare for it relative to the damage it could cause. The fact that an oil blow out would inevitably occur and do immense damage isn't relevant to our minds. It's the same problem with extinction.

An extinction-level event will eventually happen, it's a certainty. However, because the odds of it occurring at any particular point in time are so low, we don't feel the need to plan for it. Even those us us who understand the severity of the situation have trouble working up a sweat over it. I think about it and go 'meh', personally. It's a bug, a glitch in the way we think.

  20. It seems all my bids and sales are like this: I can't get inf individually from any sales, but the "Get all Inf" button does work.

    What do I do?
  21. My lowball bid on a certain purple recipe finally paid off, but I can't figure out how to take it from the market! There's a "get" button, but it's grayed out and clicking it does nothing.

It's in my "bought" category, shows I paid what I paid for it, but I can't take it!

    Help?

I find that to be totally and utterly abhorrent.

I'd have much more respect for someone who just adds roman numerals to the name. "Keeper of Blades XVII" is much better than "x Keeper of Blades x" which is just dumb. Just one man's opinion of course.
  23. I'm hoping for animal parts, fins, fur, animated tails, maybe finally some customization of the monstrous heads. For the power, well, I hope for a flat-out clone of ninja run except with a beastial gait on all fours (or threes with weapons, with dual weapons or weapon+shield... well they need to get creative, neh?)

My suggestion has been a simple suffix that is not visible in most situations: basically the same one the use in the genre itself, roman numerals.

So the first Black Jackal on the server is just Black Jackal. The next is Black Jackal II, but in most situations, like chat the "II" would not be seen.

    No "More"

    Vehicles.

As much as people like to bash the idea, they're a major part of the genre. I want em.

Also, shapeshifters and a new, non-epic, AT available to both sides.
