I don't recall if it was the banker but I did get the message that I had encountered my first day job location. I just didn't care enough to pay attention to where or what it was, but it was in Nova.
Most likely, it was entering the Magisterium near Praetor White.
It flashed across the screen, but I wasn't paying close attention, so it may have been on another part of the Magisterium. Couldn't tell you the name of the day job, either.

There are day jobs in Praetoria (hospital, bank, trade house, patrol...*), but the little gold icon is not appearing. You should, however, see progress in the bars for the badges.
*there are a few others, though not as many as PC/RI.
I assume they will be added along the way.

Trotting around Praetoria, I noticed a lack of normal dayjob locations: The trams don't give the normal "Commuter" bonus, and the police stations don't give Law Enforcer. The only dayjob I was able to land was "Banker".
