Quote:If you're referring to when I said that tanks don't have to be an aggro monkey, that's a different thing (meaning their sole purpose is to grab all the aggro all the time).
Duncan_Frost's talkin' to me?:
However, whoever it was earlier in the thread that 'tanks don't have to take aggro' is wrong.
Quote:That's like rolling an Emp/Elec defender and then only taking the attacks - if you wanted to do that, why the heck didn't you roll a Blaster?
Quote:I mean, if you want to solo on your hilariously-gimped build, go ahead, but don't expect me to be happy teaming with your useless butt. -
Quote:I genuinely think it was a gesture of good faith. Jay probably got the tail done ahead of schedule (artists will do that when they get "sucked into" a project sometimes) and they threw a bone to those who would like it. I would HOPE that they realized that us handful of forumites might be helpful with suggestions, but we're not the playerbase by far and it probably didn't have that much effect on sales of this pack (a little, but not the kind of effect you'd want to see if you were being a "cynical marketer").
Ironik has high hopes:
I'm really hoping it's not a cynical move. I really, really do. -
No, that's the method those I'm trying to avoid tend to use.

Quote:Oh, and I liked the idea. But you might be right. I know DC/Warners was trademark happy about EVERYTHING about Superman for a long time. I know it was a running gag at lots of other companies that they couldn't say "Up, up, and away!"
Le Blanc gets the old man view:
LOL! Decorum, thank you for having your age in you bio!!! Whenever I talk to people on here, and there is no age (and they are not female) I automaticly treat them, in my head, like 14 year old boys. Just because of the odds. AOk then, instead of a Phone Booth per se, how about a British Police one (note I did not say TARDIS). That would be cool too. -
Quote:And it's entirely possible to make a wolf-man prior to this booster pack. Since when is "tail" a critical part of a wolf-man? I made a wolf-guy (long since deleted) my first week or so way back in 2006.
IanTheM1 argues badly:
I vehemently disagree. It was entirely possible to make a cyborg prior to the booster pack, it was entirely possible to make a mad scientist prior to the booster pack, it was entirely possible to make a ninja prior to the booster pack, and it was entirely possible to make a wizard prior to the booster pack, which I won't bother linking to, since that one has about three kajillion possible permutations.
EDIT: Duh, sorry, I totally missed your point, didn't I? Um, nevermind. **blush** -
Quote:I think the part you're missing is "if the devs happen to agree with it".
mercykilling forgets some:
Content of the booster aside, all this says to me is "if it's screamed about long and loud enough on the boards, the developers will eventually cave in and give it to us". Which isn't a good precedent to set, guys. Especially given your stance on it in the past.
Quote:*shrug* I -am- all for listening to the playerbase and trying to appease, but....when game bugs and glitches that have been around forever (and asked to be fixed for just as long) gets pushed aside just so some people can have a freaking furry tail to add to their characters......it saddens me.
Quote:Kudos for listening to the playerbase......but a big subtraction in the methodology. Something like this should've been included from day one. -
**wonders how many under 20s on board are asking "What's a 'phone booth'?"**

Quote:It's not. It's one thing to think it's more efficient and another to insist that it always be. This game is far too flexible and, let's face it, easy to force that stuff.
Postagulous is locked in:
I was going to wait until I'd read everything here, but this is wrong.
Quote:I've been on teams where an AR blaster [and it's always an AR blaster] thinks they're the tank. I've been on teams where the Tank thinks they're a scrapper. Defenders as blasters. Controllers as scrappers.
Quote:Know your role.
Quote:As I, who sometimes plays a fire blaster, needs a tank with taunt to do my best work.
Quote:I can dish it out, but I can't take it. That's my role. Aggroing half the earth with AoE is an issue if I don't have anyone to help me, and I will aggro half the earth.
Quote:Taunt is a very good tool for a tank. Only thing better is holds or mucho killer debuffs. Best is all. What works is all. What's best is bonus.

Quote:I thought about it, but figured it could wait for another 30-40 posts where the thread will really start to get stupid.

Quote:It's always been my contention that the higher population servers tend to have a slightly higher percentage of jerks merely because jerks are drawn to higher populations (jerkitude loves a big audience). Still, as noted, plenty MORE nice people just from size, so you can dodge the jerks fairly easily (/ignore and look for new team).
ClawsandEffect gets my pet theory:
I don't know about "bashing" per se, but there are a higher number of jerkish players on Freedom.
It's simply a side effect of it being a highly populated server rather than anything inherent to the server itself. More people = more jerks, it is unfortunately unavoidable.
I'm sure the percentage of jerks is about the same on the lower population servers, but it seems to be more obvious on Freedom.
Or possibly....there actually ARE more jerks on Freedom because they have made themselves unwelcome on lower population servers, and moved so people would actually team with them. Hard to say, because not many people would honestly answer a survey to determine who is a jerk -
Right click on the bar after it appears, and it will give you several configuration choices as well.

This brings back memories! I used to act in a Rocky Horror cast in my teens. I played Dr. Scott and even filled in to play Frank one night! -
I'd rather pay double for my Mutation Pack than have to follow something on Facebook or Twitter.

Well, keep in mind that at that level, hardly anyone's a "good" tank anyway.

Captain_Electric loves the world:
I love reading all the stories and clues and contact bios during missions, creating and updating my characters bios as they grow and change throughout their adventures (this might be my favorite part), and just started using Virtueverse.com too.
I read comic books, especially Marvel. I also read and write science-fiction. But for me, personally, there's nothing that can hold a candle to the uniqueness of this nightly fictitious experience that's as much my creation as it is Paragon Studios. Paragon Studios has built a comic book universe that is at once familiar and original, and I've carved my own creations into a corner of that universe.
Great post and happy anniversary! -
Quote:What I'm seeing you type here is that instead of having the option to "gimp" them, you want them "gimped" automatically? Less options is fail, sorry.
Johnny_Butane wants his way:
First, EB is a watered down down version of the foe. The game says so. When you go to a Field Analyst/Fateweaver, you tell them:
"I would like to fight Arch-villains at their full strength, not as Elite Bosses"
or
"I don't want to fight Heroes at their full strength, I'd rather fight them as Elite Bosses"
This establishes that the true power of the enemy in question is as an AV. This applies not only to sidekicks like Ms. Liberty, but to C-list characters like Arbiter Sands as well. EB is the gimp version, and AV is canonical. -
I'm really having to dig, but I think he's wanting an out of game Wentworth's to use, but I'm not sure. All I'm sure about is him wanting a WW console in the base building section, which might be nice but I wouldn't expect it to happen.

Quote:The reason those players don't like you saying that is because it's baloney. Remember what game you're playing. ATs aren't locked into roles here and tanks don't have to be an aggro monkey.
je_saist insists:
I'm one of the players infamous on the forum for stating that tanks without taunt are bad players, period. A lot of other players in the game don't like that I say this. -
To a small degree. And make sure you know what you're looking at. That's NCSoft's numbers, not City of Heroes numbers, and, as noted, it's in Korean monetary units not taking into account variable exchange rates.
-
Taunt is a tool like any other. If you find it useful, use it. If not, don't. It's not "critical". I find it helpful in many situations, but I have tauntless tanks as well. I would usually suggest that first time tankers start with it, though, and move on to going tauntless once they've got the hang of how things work.

Although not particularly interested in the tail (it is a nice one, though), like others I'm impressed by the level of interaction and desire to please from the devs. Good show all around!
