I just added tactics to third post. Feel free to suggest other tough scenarios you'd like to see some tips for.

Quote:Which is exactly what I meant when I said "if you're talking about characters without defense, you're pretty much hosed."True, but when fighting groups like Longbow, where every single spawn can do substantial amounts of -def, softcapping yourself with purples before every fight usually isn't an option for a character with no native defense. That's a lot of purples.
Softcapping from nothing or almost nothing with purple inspirations is a non-option. Load up on reds and just kill 'em before they get you.
The point I'm trying to argue for is "You don't need DDR to make a softcapped build useful." Purple inspirations are exceedingly effective at maintaining a softcap around defense debuffers. -
The Dark Armor one!
... nevermind. /echo the "Most fun" suggestion. -
Your friends need to learn that a defender will always be better than a "healer."

Quote:Fair enough. Hard to read tone in text.I'm sorry, I didn't mean to come off as someone with an attitude.
Even if this were the case, that's my place to take it up with Bill. -
Quote:Mission accomplished. This guide has totally changed the way I play my Warshade. I am now far more aggressive and feel pretty much bullet-proof a good chunk of the time!
Quote:I have some questions tho. I am creating a Mids respec toon trying to make it more "tri-form" and less "bi-form" (Nova/Dwarf). ...
Also, I encourage you to read through this thread, which does have a few builds posted as examples.
I think I figured out what my third section will be for, though. I'll get to writing an entire post with detailed slotting tips. -
Quote:I found a different use for this power entirely. It's my "Oh crap" aggro control tool. When I originally leveled my Dark/Dark tank to 50 her final power selection was Salt Crystals. I went with it for a couple of reasons; I didn't have any slots to put towards my final power and I figured the -def would help out with some of DM's accuracy when Soul Drain was down.
Extra mob of enemies that would put me over the aggro cap? Sleep 'em.
Need to grab attention of a large/spread out ambush group ASAP? Hit 'em with a defense debuff and sleep effect that animates very fast in a huge area. It's almost more reliable than taunt. -
Quote:Not to be anal, but it's Dechs. Possessive would be Dechs'. Pronounced "dex," notably not short for "Dexter." I'm not upset or anything; I know it's an odd name.Umm, LH - didn't you notice that MB's answers were not exactly the same as Dech's?
...although in this case Dech provided good basic answers.
But yeah, Bill was a bit more detailed than I was. What kind of person jumps down the throat of someone trying to help?
I think I figured out why an unusually few people were eager to help you. I know I won't make the same mistake again. -
Quote:You have to use the purple inspirations proactively, that is to say, before you get debuffed. Using them reactively only recoups the defense lost, leaving you at the softcap and at the mercy of the next lucky shot which is bound to come. You can rarely ever recover from a cascade failure once it starts.Depends on the set, but generally, yeah. I've still run into quite a few situations where I have to pop 3-4 small purples just to get back to 0% defense on non-defense sets. Having enemies debuff you to -50% defense hurts.
However, if you're talking about a character that doesn't have any defense (sets or otherwise) then you're pretty much hosed. You need to pop purples until you're at 55% or better to have a cushion of defense before you start to suffer cascading failure.
The other softcap (-45% defense) is brutal. When my tank goes from 45% to -45%, the sustainable DPS drops from about 10k to 500. -
I count five not exactly simple questions, but I'll try to answer them.
Quote:No.First: Is there a way to have some sort of tailor machine or something in your base?
Powering items in your base, like teleporters to zones and hospital items.
Quote:Third: What exactly do raids mean? I know this game doesn't have the kind of raids that WoW does so please enlighten me.
Playing with people, showing an example of what kind of person you are, THEN inviting them.
The kinds of stuff you can put in them.

Good catch, thanks. I know that rule, and it's not something I mess up often. I'm calling it a typo.
Additionally, I've updated the second post to include my tray setups and some additional binds. Tactics are to come. -
This may not be applicable, because my tri-form is a warshade, but I use all the forms about equally.
My PB is human only, and I often find myself wishing I had dwarf. Rarely do I desire nova form. -
Quote:Just sent one. Not sure where to go if you're still having trouble.PMs were turned on in my settings. I just tried turning it off and saving the change, then turning it back on and saving the change. Could someone send me a PM to test?
Quote:Yeah, I'll have to be careful about not going full bore. But it's nice to have the option for when I've got additional endurance recovery from the team, or want something down faster.
I can keep my endurance bar above 80% all day long with my single target attacks by leaving a short gap between them. If I start cranking out a seamless attack chain with both AoEs every time they recharge, I'll bottom out after a few minutes.
The best news is, I can use blue inspirations! So when I need the extra damage, I can use it. Had I made things more endurance friendly with less recharge, I can't use +recharge inspirations to compensate. Likewise in teams, +recovery comes in larger and more frequent amounts than +recharge. -
I'd give it a Res/Endurance enhancement and call it a day.
I'd also slot the heal up nice and White Dwarf Flare for knockback. If it's an "oh crap" button, use it as just that.
Not sure if you're aware of this: The forms were changed so that you can activate dwarf form while you are mezzed. It acts like a break free these days, so Dwarf becomes much more useful to many people. -
It's not. Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly impressed. I'd worry about the endurance consumption, but you do have Dark Consumption to help. The only change I can see making is Opressive Gloom instead of Cloak of Fear. It has higher base accuracy and costs a fraction of the endurance.
Quote:I don't know what's wrong, but I don't seem to be receiving PMs (and ones I send might not be going out). Anyone knows what might be up with that?
"It looks great. Stone melee is a little heavier on endurance than fire melee, so you'll have to be careful. The downside to my build is that I can burn myself out if I go full bore, so I'm sure you could too.
I worry a very little about your slotting on Dark Regen. Yours heals for less than mine but recharges faster. In large groups of enemies, yours will perform better. Against a single target mine is better. But with all the defense/resistance, usually my heal is overkill, so it shouldn't be a problem in your build.
The one suggestion I'd make: Replace the Oblits in Soul Transfer with Erads. Boom. Softcap." -
Time to revive the thread with some new material. If you want the tl;dr version, my mirelock is back.
I used to be pretty awesome with my warshade. Side note: to be awesome with a warshade, you have to play aggressively. More enemies means more performance, so it tends to work best by being at least one group of enemies ahead of the team. This lead to my warshade stealing the show during SG events and people becoming a tad miffed. I stopped playing him for this reason.
Since the new "epic ATs unlock at 20" change, I decided I should write the guide on how to play a Tri-Form Warshade that I've been meaning to write. It made sense to get some practice with my 'shade to make sure I knew what I was talking about. Log in, select badass warshade, form a LGTF, jump into the first spawn of Rikti.
"And Dechs is dead." - Teammate, five seconds in.
"It's ok, I have a rez." - Me.
"And he's dead again." - Another five seconds later.
Seems I was a bit rusty. The rest of the TF wasn't much better for my poor warshade, but I was starting to get comfortable again.
I didn't try soloing a full spawn again until the next TF I ran. This time it was a Kahn and I was smart enough to not solo the Arachnos in the first mission. I waited for the Boomtown "solo the troop portals" mission.
"And Dechs is dead." - Same teammate from before, twenty seconds into the fight.
"But I got the portal!" - Me.
I was getting better, at least, but I still wasn't able to go off on my own like I used to.
Last night I did another Kahn TF and I think I've got my squiddy stuff back. We were in the mission where you have to find the base leader then check most of the glowies in the base. I stealthed one direction, a /dev blaster went the other. The rest of the team wasted no time finding nearby nazi nuts to bust.
"Who are we looking for in here?" - Stealthing Blaster on the other side of the map.
"This guy. *Goes to town on the EB*" -Me.
I did everything mostly right. I eclipsed and mired up, got a dwarf mire on me then dropped to explode one of the corpses. My health was bobbing up and down despite the 85% resistance that Eclipse gave me. I spent what seemed like an eternity hanging on to a blinking red pixel of health while I tried desperately to feed the EB his teeth before he fixed a meal of calamari. I don't know how I did it, but I was alive when the team caught up to me and put the last few hits on the EB to finish him.
Hey fellas... I'm BAAAAACK! -
Welcome to City of Heroes!
First and foremost, you need to forget everything you know about the holy trinity. Similarly, we don't have "healers." It's almost a curse word around here. There are defenders with heals, but no healers. That's because buffs and debuffs rule this game.
I've done Task Forces (like raids) with a team of all tankers and with a team of all support characters. Both were amazingly fun, but the all tanker team was harder to accomplish.
If you want something DPSish go with a blaster, scrapper, dominator or brute depending on melee/ranged flavor. Pick any primary and any secondary. I mean it. It is very hard to gimp a character in this game.
You may want to check out the Mentor Project. We've got tons of helpful people more than willing to answer any questions you might have. -
Quote:I disagree as well. Defense allows my tanker to do the things you see in the video. Even Cimerorans don't threaten me because with a single small purple inspiration, I have pseudo-DDR on the order of 100%. On a team with even minimal defense buffs, I don't even need that.I also stand to believe that getting defensive bonuses on toons that are not primarily defense based, or have no DDR to begin with (Elec, DA) are going the wrong way.

Hey fellow Khelds. I recently created a new guide for people wanting to get into a tri-form warshade. Below is an excerpt which links to the guide itself.
Quote:I want this guide to be as thorough as it can be, so please feel free to give me feedback. I do ask that you keep all feedback in replies to the guide itself, not this thread. If you're somebody who wants to get into a tri-form warshade and isn't afraid to play aggressively, then this guide is right up your alley.
...
I am going to give you all the tools you need to get the most out of your tri-form experience. This is intended to be a comprehensive guide to creating a fun and highly effective tri-form warshade. This includes covering useful binds, clever tactics and helpful pool powers, as well as taking a look at the IO sets that can add the most to your warshade.
By the end of this guide, you will have everything you need to be The MFing Warshade.
Thanks. -
I have created a guide to the tri-form warshade, which can be found here.
