  1. Thanks for the input here. I think I'll give a plant/psi a shot and roll the dice that it will ruin me for other Doms.

    Thanks again.
  2. I've never played a dom before. I tend to lean towards tanks, scrappers and brutes with the occasional defender mixed in. Looking over the dom primaries and reading the threads on here a plant dom seems like a good starting point. However, given that I am pretty clueless when it comes to dom's I could be totally wrong.
  3. Thanks Stealth, I did exactly what you suggested here and made a blaster. I agree with you that most of my characters are pretty safe (something I never really considered before), I would argue that the Kin defender is far from safe.

I decided that just making a blaster wasn't enough, I also moved servers, and took nothing with me. Starting from scratch, not the rich child of one of my 50's. So far, its worked. I look forward to playing my toon again. Meeting new people, leveling up an AT that is totally foreign to me, and actually grouping again has changed the game for me.

    Feeling lost

I had the same problem as the OP. I made a thread about needing a slump buster. What I discovered I personally needed, was a change in venue. I left Liberty, where most of my lvl 50's are, and I've went to Virtue. I've taken nothing with me. Basically, I'm starting from scratch as if I were a new player. After a few nights of playing, I have to say, I've found new enjoyment in the game. Meeting new people, teaming at low levels (something that NEVER happens on Liberty), and looking for a new SG to call home. I've also decided to try a different AT I normally wouldn't have. This has really helped me break out of my funk.
  5. Thanks for the further advice. I currently play on Liberty, but it really feels like the population is dying so I'll give one of the more populated servers a shot.

What? I'm not sure exactly what your "he must be lonely" statement means.

I've decided to try my hand at a WS. I'm finding that in the current state of the game, playing an AT that gets stronger when you team to be a bit lacking since there are so few teams at the low levels.
  7. I've always seemed to tend towards melee type characters, which is why 4 out of my 5 50's are melee and even my Kin defender is a mix it up, be in the middle of the action type of character. MM's have never really appealed to me because of the whole "spectator" aspect of them, but maybe I need to do something different.

In the end, I really a character that can solo well, while at the same time play a roll on a team.
  8. I've found myself in a really bad slump recently. I have a bunch of toons, and none seem to grab my attention. I've got a 50 fire/shield tank, Ill/rad troller, kin/wp scrap, Elec/Shield brute, Kin/elec def, and a 50 fire/fire tank. I have a handful of other 30+ toons, but lately, I'm just struggling to find something that I find fun.

I know nobody can tell someone else what if "fun" to play. Fun is an individual thing. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has experienced this problem and all I'm looking for are some AT ideas that were fun for you to play. I'm thinking about maybe a dom or defender, but I'm open to any suggestions.

    Thanks in advance.
  9. I've always stayed away from the Kheldians because they seemed overly complicated. Recently, for some reason, I've felt that I need to give them a try. I've spent the last 2 days bumping around the forums and reading the posts, but I'm still not sure how to approach making one.

To start with, other than power differences (one is dark, one is "light" of sorts) I can't figure out what the difference is between Peacebringers and Warshades. Looking at the powers, it seems like PBs might be blasterlike and WSs more controllerish?

The different forms. Are tri-form builds superior to two form or human only? Is one easier to play for a newbie like myself?

Basically, I'm just looking for a foothold to get started and figure these things out so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  10. I've done a few searches and I can't seem to find any information. I'm trying to decide if I want to wait for I21 to start a new thermal/fire def to run with my friend, or go ahead and just run a fire/thermal cor with his tank.

Does anyone have any numbers as to the differences?
  11. Thanks so much for all the responses. Really now thinking about a fire/thermal for the damage angle while still helping him with buffs. Although the dark angle is also something I need to consider.

I wrote off Controllers and Dominators right away because of the holds and CC, assuming tanks would get annoyed. Perhaps I was incorrect?
  12. My friend is making an Ice/Fire tank and I'd like to make something that will work well in a duo. I've been trying to decide if a blaster might be the best option for the high damage, or perhaps a defender or corrupter for the support options they provide. Maybe something else. Just looking for ideas.

    Thanks in advance.
  13. The huntsman sounds interesting, perhaps I'll give it a shot. Does it play like a blaster? Is its survivability good? I ask because I've found my bane to be pretty tough.
  14. I'm trying to decide which is a better way to level up my character. I'm only lvl 26 so I haven't had both forms very long and this is my first time playing a soldier. If someone could give me some leveling up advice, I would appreciate it. So far it seems pretty slow going, but I'm pretty sure that is a result of my play more then the AT.
  15. I've had my claws/regen scrapper on the shelf for a VERY long time (several years actually) as I've played other toons on other servers. Recently I've returned to my 1st server and saw my scrapper sitting there. He is currently lvl 32.

The reason I ask is that I don't see many people talking about regen anymore, seems like SR is always paired with it. Is that because the secondary sucks? I'd rather not sink a lot of time into a toon that just isn't going to become anything.

    Thanks for any advice.
  16. I wasn't overly "worried" about the numbers, but I find it odd that at least looking at the numbers, a scrapper has the same def/res as a tank. Yes I have more HP then he does, but it just seems like a Tank gives up damage for that def.

One of the reasons I went with Mako's is that I already have 5 5% recharge bonuses, so more would be a waste.
  17. Here is my current build (sorry I'm at work so the levels when I took the powers and slots are not accurate, but the build is). I was talking with my scrapper friend last night and found that his defense numbers were actually higher than mine in some places, which I found surprising (He is also a shield). Overall I've enjoyed this character a TON, it might be one of my favorites since it feels closer to a Scrapper in damage than a Tank.

Is there something else I could do to improve my numbers? I'm open to any advice, different sets, respec, etc. I'm by no means super rich at this point, but I'm far from poor.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

  18. I've only played 1 Cor so I could use a little bit of guidance. I had an Arch blaster on another server and really liked the set, but I didn't like the secondary choices of a blaster, I think I would rather have some support options (one of my favorite toons is a Kin Def).

So where I'm looking for some advice is on what secondary to grab. I was looking at Trick Arrow, but I'm not sure how good TA is. I remember reading that it is quite weak, but its been a while since I did any research. The other that I looked at was Cold Dom.

I would rather stay away from Kin and Rad, I have 2 of each on different toons.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.
  19. I've thought that PvP here in CoH is pretty limited with no point except killing the other person. Deathmatch type PvP is hard for me to get into, I would much prefer a type of capture the flag, or hold A,B,C points to win type games. I'm not a big fan of WoW, but they're PvP is done pretty well.

BTW, thanks for all the advice. I'm thinking about giving a tanker a shot.
  20. My mistake, I'll put it in there. But to answer your question, I've never bothered with the PvP to be honest. It never really appealed to me, and my brief experience in there has reinforced that initial opinion of it.

BTW, thanks for not being overly condescending....oh wait.
  21. I went into PvP the other night and was staggered by the number of stalkers running around. I knew that stalkers would prove to be the majority, but I didn't expect it to be upwards of 75-80%. It got me to thinking, what else works well in PvP? I'm sure tanks are ok, with their ability to withstand the AS and then taunt, but are unable to kill because of lack of damage.

I would like something for PvP other than a stalker. Possible, or am I just SoL?
  22. My friend and I run a good duo. I'm a Shield/Fire tank, and he is an ElecM/Shield scrapper. The damage output of this team is pretty crazy. We've taken down several GM's. As the tank, I aggro everything, then its Lightning rod, 2 shield charges, and thunderstrike for good measure. Only thing standing after that are bosses and MAYBE an Lt. We run our missons at 4/8 with ease.

    I've thought a lot about a /cold controller with a scrapper however.
  23. So I'm going to make my 2nd stalker to run with a few friends that enjoy PvP'ing. I'm having trouble deciding on what type to make. I've all but decided on /WP, although I'm open to opinions on that. Basically I'm trying to decide between Energy and Dark. But again, since I'm a noob I'm open to change that as well. Ninja Blade appealed to me, but the draw time in pvp scares me. Perhaps it shouldn't but it seems like it could be an issue.
  24. Thanks a lot for all the ideas. I'm really liking the idea of trying /TA. For far too long I've stayed away from TA because it has such a bad reputation (or has had, I haven't read much about it for a while). Mind/TA does seem like it might be a fun combo.
  25. My friend and I want to make a controller-dominator team. He went with electric control (I'm not sure on his secondary, might be electric). I've only made 1 controller, an ill/rad. Kin is one of my favorite power set but I've made quite a few Kin builds so I would like to make something different. Other than the 1 controller I made, I'm really a pretty massive noob when it comes to the AT.

Clearly we need something that has enough holds to keep the two of us safe, we're kinda squishy. Would we be better off with us both being doms for the added damage? Or is there something I can go with that has the damage output necessary in the controller AT?

    Thanks
