Leveling. Crab or Bane?
If you tend to stick to teams, I'd say go Crab, but if you mostly solo, you'll probably get more out of a Bane. The former is the spawn-melter, able to effectively support a group both through the toggle buffs and the big AoEs; the latter plays more or less like a Stalker with a bigger bag of tricks, still providing good Leadership buffs but focusing more on big damage in bursts, mostly to single targets or small groups.
Neither. Go Huntsman and gun down everything in sight without remorse, pity, or a rear view mirror.
The huntsman sounds interesting, perhaps I'll give it a shot. Does it play like a blaster? Is its survivability good? I ask because I've found my bane to be pretty tough.

When I was leveling my soldier, I went with a huntsman bane build for grouping, and a mace bane build for soloing. I found that the huntsman did ok for solo, but a mace bane was easier. Though it depends on what you prefer. Either way I went with bane powers, cause for a huntsman, the extra powers available to a bane, specifically cloaking device, are more useful then the crab powers. Crabs have some nice stuff, but tend to be better for late game builds IMO.
Better than a Blaster's ... provided you take and slot your defensive powers. You also don't get mezzed easily/often, which makes a big difference.

Huntsman is my favorite, as well. Even if I am rebuilding a Crab Tank atm.

Crab is generally the AoE machine but my Bane that i'm working on can hold his own against any Crab spider in terms of raw damage. I don't know what it is but people don't tend to like Bane Spiders as much as Crab.. even though they are just as powerful if not more so against AV/GMs.

Ranged mace attacks are the worst possible dpa.

Well, you've got two Mace Beam, Poisonous Ray. That should be good enough ST attack chain (since they all take 2s to activate).
Your dps will be low and you have some knockbacks.
What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.
Has anyone tried this build? I know the dps will suck hard but it has a good theme. Who would have thought that you shoot "beam" out of a Mace? The first thing I think about Mace is to whack people with it...not shooting beam. lol

I'm trying to decide which is a better way to level up my character. I'm only lvl 26 so I haven't had both forms very long and this is my first time playing a soldier. If someone could give me some leveling up advice, I would appreciate it. So far it seems pretty slow going, but I'm pretty sure that is a result of my play more then the AT.
