All these reasons are why they are worth more XP than normal.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Food for thought....they could be worth 3 times as much xp, but if they're not fun to fight, does it really matter? Think about it. When we play the game, xp should be the furthest thing from our minds. I love it when I'm having so much fun that I level unexpectedly. That just doesn't happen often enough anymore.

    Accuracy

    [ QUOTE ]
Over the 4 day weekend, I left my computer running with Eviscerate on Autoattack. (Both my target and my character were set to not take damage so there was no worry about killing each other.)

    I attacked a total of 38917 times.
    I hit 29275 times.
    I missed 9642 times.

That is a 75.22% overall to hit chance against an even level critter with no defense powers.

There is no "Accuracy Wrap Around" -- otherwise Blasters with Targetting Drone + Aim + Build Up would never, ever hit, which is not the case.

    [/ QUOTE ]

How many CoV/CoH targets have zero defense? Seriously, I'm curious. Accuracy is a funny thing in this game. I spend what seems like most of my endurance on my brute missing whites and yellows.

    Yeah, I gotta question.

What is the purpose of Fire Tankers? What do they do that no other set can do?

[/ QUOTE ]? You might need to be a little more specific. Fire tanks can tank, but so can all other tanks. Fire tanks can deal damage, but so can all other tanks, scrappers, blasters, etc. Fire tanks do what other tanks and damage dealers do.

Fire tanks deal a little more damage then other tanks, but the trade off is, they are squishier then other tanks. To compensate as best as possible for this it is in a fire tank's best interest to pick up tough and weave from the fighting pool and to counter against knockback Acrobatics from the Leaping pool.

When they have all that with their damage resist from their primary, fire tanks can tank well, and dish out the damage.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Prior to the burn nerf(s), I would agree that fire tankers traded defense for damage. Now, I'm not so sure. Remember that all fire tankers are not fire/fire tankers. My fire/axe tanker now uses Axe to do damage instead of burn. As such, he does no more damage than an invuln or stone tanker with an axe, but his is far more squishy. Please explain that.
  4. City of Shadows? Makes me think of Gotham. Dark and dirty.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
Archery has the highest Accuracy in the game. All powers have an accuracy of 1.16. Ranged shot, the sniper attack, has an accuracy of 1.39.

So that like getting 1 free ACC DO in all Archery powers. Against a target with no defense, thats a 87% chance ToHit.

In comparison, most powers in the game have an accuracy of 1. Most sniper attacks have an accuracy of 1.2. Assault Rifle has an ACC of 1.05 (1.25 for thier sniper attack).

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm sorry, but an extra DO worth of accuracy just simply does not offset archery's negatives. Tone down the endurance usage and either give us a secondary affect or up the damage a little, and you might have something here. My archer blaster is currently lvl 30, and every team he's been on to date, he's been the weakest blaster by a large margin. He does the least amount of damage and always has less endurance left than anyone else after a fight.
  6. I'm guessing States just choked on his coffee as he fell out of his seat when he saw Geko's post. "You told them WHAT?!?"

    LoL.
  7. Interesting. So since the big white board has both CoV and CoH ATs listed on it, does that mean that the devs are now working as one big team for both projects instead of a CoH team and a CoV team? Also, his answer seemed to indicate that power sets like plant are going to be CoV only. Is this the case? I would really like to see some CoH crossover on these types of powersets. After all, it isn't the power that makes you good or bad....it's how you use it

    Issue 5 Summary?

    [ QUOTE ]
    What's all this about skills?

I've read the universities will be dealing with "skills" but what are these skills suppose to do for your AT? improve fighting? are they like enhancements? please enlighten me! thanks

    [/ QUOTE ]

We don't really know. All we know is that it is supposed to be "out of combat" content.... in other words, something to do other than bash villains. It will be something your hero can learn to improve him/herself. That's all we know for sure. If you look around the forums you could probably find reliable and not so reliable theories.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I thought the idea of skills was shelved by States. Is this something that is still in the works? I could have swore that I saw a post saying that he had given up on the skills system.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
The toxic resist is in Hoarfrost and Earth's Embrace because that's where they put the toxic resistance in all the tanker sets: the HP boosting power. It seems just as wierd in Healing Flame, and Dull Pain for that matter, but for a lot of sets where would you put it?

    [/ QUOTE ]

How about in a new passive power?
  10. In it's present state, you have completely destroyed Burn as a power. If your (the Dev's) issue is with AOE powers, then why don't you cut to the chase and just remove them from the game already? It can't be because you are afraid of mass nerfage. You've proven that.

If this isn't the case and if you are thinking Burn is too powerful, why not switch Rise of the Phoenix with Burn in relation to when you can take them? Make Burn your lvl 32 power and RotP your lvl 18 power. That'd be more in line, and people would learn to use their secondary attacks before Burn becomes a crutch.

Whatever you do, this has got to be it. You have beat on this power enough. Get your "vision" straight and get this power in line with whatever that means once and for all. Nerfing the same power every single update since release is really making me question if you even know what your vision is.

    Thank you.

The majority of this thread is a good reason not to mix religon and city of heros.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The majority of this thread is pretty much the reason why I don't read Official Threads.

    [/ QUOTE ]

LoL, where else in the world will you find the views of so many opinionated arm chair authorities and self proclaimed know-it-alls in one place?
  12. The majority of this thread is a good reason not to mix religon and city of heros. Religon or the lack thereof is a deeply personal preference and no matter how right you think your's is, you simply cannot force your views on others. It just sparks anger, outrage, and frustration. Save it for church, mass, black mass, dancing naked around a fire, or whatever it is you choose to do. I'd like to get back to talking about I5 if possible

Nerfs: Mr. Emmert throughout the lecture constantly said that arising to challenges = fun. He said that all Ats should be able to do a mission on heroic solo. However, if invincible offers no challenge prepare yourself for the nerf bat (there goes my illusion/rad <sigh&gt. Right after that he said that if you can agro 50 guys and not be defeated something is wrong. He also stated that no one should be able to cap with out a defender. I’m assuming this means defense but it’s one of those shorthand notes and could also mean damage. He mentioned that the 30’s game and above is NOT Balanced (his emphasis). He said that he wanted to make it more challenging and exciting to get a Yes!! I beat it feeling. He didn’t mention specifics other than differing damage types.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Simply awful. I wish a new development team would take over...one that understood wimping is awful and masochistic challenge is not fun. I can guess that the "YES!!" level of challenge equates to hamidon level of difficulty. This is precisely why I left EQ.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Why do we assume "challenging" means "as challenging as avoid getting boned in prison"?

I'm sure there's a middleground between "breezing through missions on Invincible" and "how come my blood is all outside of me?"!

    [/ QUOTE ]

OMG, that was prison line was priceless. I am now wiping my the Dr. Pepper off my monitor. Thank you for finishing out my day with a good laugh :P

A Kitsune would be very cool, tho. It'd be cool to see the undeveloped wildlands next to Croatoa turn out to be filled with Shinto-style nature spirits... it'd be Princess Mononoke in Paragon City.

    [/ QUOTE ]

A 'Chinatown' section of Paragon City would be cool (perhaps called 'Little Asia' and sharing a blend of Chinese, Japanese and other Asian cultural motifs), with the possibility of displaced spirits, Tsoo gangs, etc running around.

A 'concerned ancestor' mission giver could appear at night in the graveyard, asking heroes to rescue her grandson from a Tsoo recruitment party and guide him back from his lawless path, and similarly protecting her neighborhood / family from their depradations (stopping a Tsoo ambush at a particular shop, with a wave of them arriving to torch the store and beat up it's owners for not paying their protection funds), or from the actions of hostile spirits.

A tricky kitsune could give a riddle challenge, and perhaps even a visit to a spiritual version of the section of town could exist as a 'train mission' where the people appear as ghosts and hostile spirit forces prowl the streets, appearing as coiled black dragon-serpents nesting at certain confluences of ley-lines, attended by chittering hordes of finely-dressed bakemono goblins that appear as short inhuman robed courtiers until they unfurl their claws to attack.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Don't foget German Town with the little 5th and Council running around eating shnitzle.

I think you guys have to realize that the dev's aren't nerfing because of PvP. They are nerfing because they're balancing this game around a different standard. They don't see the game the way you or I do.

It's not PvP's fault. Not by a long shot.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think much of the annoyance here is due to two things...

    1. PvP changes were not supposed to affect PvE play and now we're finding out that it most certainly will have a cross over effect.

    2. They're trying to call the nerfs "balance" when this is a PvE game. "Balance" is for PvP (come on...why "balance" super jump/ super speed for PvE more than a year after launch?). Just be honest and call it like it is. The nerfs are due to upcoming PvP.

    [ QUOTE ]
    Agreed.

We should try NEVER to change a power because of PvP alone (BTW, this is what I've always promised). The changes now aren't solely because of PvP - there's signifcant PvE issues, too.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I am interested in knowing what aspect of SS and SJ is so overwhelming off-kilter in PvE that they need to be so curtailed?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    It wasn't fair.
Nerfing 2 powers, established for a year is easier then buffing one power (removing -acc from fly) for balance.
Check the "patch explation" by statesman.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I am still a little worried that people arent getting the point - this game is suppose to be a challenge - it was never ment to be - or should it ever be Easy - that really is the bottom line -

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wow, all this time I thought the point of this game was to be fun. If a challenge is your idea of fun, go invincible, take fly, and stay away from FoTM builds.

Why change the PvE game? What is one good reason for making this change to PvE?

BTW, I'm not whining here. I'll continue playing most likely regardless, but claiming that this change is for any reason other than PvP balance is just insulting.

Am I the only that thinks the words "beta" and "live" should not be in the same sentence?

Wrong....CoV has been known about since CoH's release. It completes the whole vision of the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wrong...CoV is being released as a stand alone game as I understand it. That means CoH is not about PvP. CoV is. Two different games that work together.

That is the most anti superhero thing I've heard yet. In the comics, how lame would it be if superheros had to run and get help everytime they came up against a boss? I'm not even talking about archvillians like Doctor Octapus, Shocker, Kraven the Hunter, etc. I'm talking about run of the mill thug bosses.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not a fair comparison at all. In the modern comics, how many superheroes do you know that go toe-to-toe with at most ONE real "supervillain" -- a super powered villain-- (AV according to you) in the first third of their career? Few. Bosses are indeed in many ways filling the supervillain role in CoH, as best CoH maps to the modern comics.

Furthermore, the average modern comics superhero is ceratinly not incarcerating one to three supervillains per mission. So, there's nothing about being a hero that requires us to do so.

If you want a simulation of the modern comics in CoH, you complete your mission first, and risking it all to capture the supervillain (boss) comes later, if at all, depending on your morale and drive. How often does the villain get away to fight another day? All the time. It's perfectly genre to leave those bosses alone.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Obviously, your idea of a super hero and mine must be totally different. The thought of a super powered hero being beaten down by a boss who isn't even important enough to be named in the game is absurd. Couple that with the fact that you can find one in the majority of group outdoor spawns and missions, and it's even more absurd.

And to answer your question, nearly all super heros I am aware of go toe to toe with a real supervillian in the first third of their career. It'd be a pretty boring comic book series if they didn't. And since my blaster is 34, you can't really say he's in the first 1/3 of his career either.

Bottom line...I don't pay 15 bucks a month so I can feel like a weak super hero wanna be. I pay to roll play a REAL super hero. You know...one that doesn't need stealth to sneak past the bad guys, one that isn't afraid to take on thugs and thug bosses, and one that can start a mission and successfully see it through to the end without help.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
It is nice for players to want to compare playing this game to actual comic books, but remember first off NO comic book hero who is not using gadgets or specially made armor ever gets to choose the powers they have let alone gets to have over almost 30 seperate powers ( except Superman ) so please stop trying to use comic book analogies for or against the changes made to the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I disagree. This games whole gimmick is the fact that you are a super hero and not an elf or dwarf or whatever. That's the reason many of the people playing this game are new to MMOs -- they are or were comic fans who wanted to actually roleplay a super hero. You even get a comic book as part of your subscription to the game. This game was meant to bring comics to life for the fans. If not, it really is just EQ in spandex.

I'm always amazed at how defensive some players get when you criticize a move made by the Devs. Newsflash...they are human and they make mistakes. When they do, it's our job to point it out. It's in their best interests to know what we like and what we don't, since ultimately we pay their bills. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the majority of vocal players see this change as bad.

Why is it so hard for the Devs to figure out that in a game about super heros, people want to *FEEL* like a super hero?
  22. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Except for the fact that Statesman has said that ALL ATs should be able to solo, that's almost a good point.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's actually only part of what I've said. Solo players should always have something to do...I've never said that everything is solo-able (some missions are, others aren't), or that every Archetype can solo as effectively as another.

If a player sees a boss of his level, he should probably get help...

    [/ QUOTE ]

That is the most anti superhero thing I've heard yet. In the comics, how lame would it be if superheros had to run and get help everytime they came up against a boss? I'm not even talking about archvillians like Doctor Octapus, Shocker, Kraven the Hunter, etc. I'm talking about run of the mill thug bosses. I'm starting to wonder if this game is even based on comic type superheros in any way besides graphics.

The problem CoH is having is they are slowing taking away the feeling of being a superhero and replacing it with typical unoriginal MMO game mechanics. It takes more than fireballs and energy blast graphics to make someone feel like a superhero.

It seems to me that this vision of how bosses should be handled makes the players more like policemen and less like heros. We have to call for back up for most encounters.

I just hope that in City of Villians, the player villians are as tough as the CoH villians. If so, I will be able to trash equal level heros with no real problems. Maybe in some warped way, I'll get to feel like a superhero again.
