  1. If you like Frasier, you may well like Cheers, since Frasier was a character on Cheers that spun off his own show.

Here's my "deep tracks" pick - Police Squad! All of 6 episodes were aired, but they're all amazing. This show was the basis for the Naked Gun movies. If you don't like those movies, or Airplane!, don't bother with this series though.

To the OP's question about the US version of "The Office" - " so would that be worth me trying out?" In a word - yes. I don't like to compare the 2 series, just like I don't like to compare old Star Trek to Next Generation, they're all great independent of each other.

Speaking of Steve Carrell - check out the old 60s series "Get Smart" (but not the movie Carrell was in).

While you're in the oldies section, I'm quite fond of "The Andy Griffith Show".

I think it may be interesting to someone trying to get a flavor of US culture at a time and place to check out "All in the Family" and "The Jeffersons". Jeffersons was a spin-off of "All in the Family", both are funny, topical and at times poignant.

I don't think I've seen "The Simpsons" mentioned yet (only with respect to Tracy Ullman) and well, it IS the longest running comedy in US history.
  2. One thing that stood out to me was the Accuracy IO for Deceive. I would take that out and swap in the Kismet unique into CJ, to boost your to-hit not only for Deceive, but all your powers, Flash for example, is really helped quite a bit by this change, especially against +3s, where to the final chance to hit goes from 72ish to 81ish.

As for the patron pools, that's a very good question. I'm thinking of respeccing into perhaps Mace, the idea of another pet is quite enticing. Before making such a decision I'd need to know more about the patron pet ai. If the Arachnobot or Mu Guardian stay at range, I'd say absolutely yes, if they race Phantasm into melee just to get footstomped to death in 10 seconds, then no.
  3. If you're new to the game, I just want to make sure you're aware that 2 Kinetic Combat sets, a Hecatomb set of 5 and an Armegeddon set of 5 are not cheap.

It looks like you've still got 5 slots to play with, by the way.

I'd put 5 Doctored Wounds in Energize, maxing out recharge.

You seem to have ignored Lightening Field, it's a good source of damage and taunt.

You gave a priority of capping s/l (which is currently 20% from soft-cap of 45%, not the 7.5% you mentioned).

I've made a few various hypothetical builds for my elec/elec brute. Here's one to soft-cap s/l. Yes, I know that it doesn't actually soft-cap it (42%) but it's a Glad Armor away, which I'd probably slot if I were to use this build. I don't, in actuality, use this build on live and I'm not recommending it, it's just for show to getting to soft-cap.

  4. I appreciate the feedback, I mean no disrespect but that feedback addresses my old problem, not my current one. My current issue is far more egregious, I can't start the game at all. This is from my first post:

    Quote:
I did find the newest driver on the ASUS website, downloaded them, uninstalled the old ones I had downloaded from ATI and installed the new drivers from ASUS. This seemingly took me back to my original state, same resolutions, etc. However, City of Heroes doesn't like it and I get this error:

"City of Heroes has enountered a problem and needs to close. The crash occurred in atioglxx.dll"
Again, my real problem isn't crashing right now, it's that I can't start the game due to this error about atioglxx.dll.

Debuffing resists works the same way. A good solid -20 res debuff is really a poncy -2.6. That wont do squat.

This is why it's always been a total myth that /poison was good at fighting av/gm's. It can do elite bosses tops - none of its debuffing powers stack even.

    No, on both accounts above.

See http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Archvillain_Resistance to see what AVs resist. You won't find -damage resistance on the list. So that "solid -20 res debuf/f" is really a solid -20 (before level adjustments and specific damage resistance).

Also it is far from a myth that /poison is good at fighting AVs. I went through the Scirocco arc set for AVs and /poison definitely got the job done. It kills regen, lowers damage and damage resistance. I'm not going to say it's "the best" for AVs but "total myth"? No way.
  6. Please, only one man is destined to play Luke Cage - the man who changed his identity due to inspiration from Luke (true story). His name? Nicolas Cage.

  8. In the last few weeks, the game has started to crash my computer more and more frequently.

"Crash" in this case means total shutdown.

Having played the game for a few years, I have developed a tolerance for the occasional crash but this was getting to be too much and getting to the realm of unplayable.

So I went about the task of updating my video card drivers. Unfortunately, I got them from ATI and I use an ASUS laptop. I did not know at the time about the nuances of video drivers for laptops. Lesson learned.

I searched the forums for that file and I don't see any advice to do anything different than what I had done - uninstall the old one and reinstall the driver from the laptop manufacturer. So now the game isn't just in the "realm of unplayable", it literally is unplayable.

I hope some resolution can be found, the current state is a death blow to my ability to play this game I'm so fond of and I'd rather not have to quit until I buy a new computer.

Anyway, here's the COHHelper log. I'll post the hijackthis log in a different post.

  10. If he doesn't say "Sweet Christmas", I don't want to see it.
  11. Now with data chunk, Overload, Fire epic instead of Earth so my aoe could be Fireball instead of Repulsing Torrent. Other minor tweaks as well to solve a couple of "rule of 5" violations.

  12. I'm about to make a Kin Melee/Energy Aura Brute, since I have yet to make a character with either of these powersets, might as well pair them together, synergy be damned.

Just to set the stage a bit, I expect to solo 75% of the time, probably lots of speed ITFs after 35.

I have to say I'm pleased with where the numbers ended up. Without any terribly exotic IOs, all Def but Psi is soft-capped (neg energy at 44.5) with decent recharge (78% and no Hasten).

Let me reiterate, I have no hands-on experience with either primary or secondary, so please let me know if there's anything fundamentally wrong.

    Controller duo

In the olden days, before IOs and incarnates, I used to 2-box farm with a fire/kin and a fire/sonic. That combo works very well together. The Kin can let the /sonic use all his toggles and the Sonic provides mez protection and allows a staggering amount of damage to be done, with FS * Disruption. 2x Hot Feet and 6 Fire Imps creates a lot of damage while you do other things.

IMO, Earth isn't great for a 2nd box unless you can actively play it. Location based powers are a pain, as they require 2 steps. Fire/Sonic can contribute quite a bit by merely buffing every 4 minutes.
  14. I don’t have an /FA scrapper, but the generic formula for s/l defense is :

    Weave
    CJ (which /FA needs anyway)
    5 Kinetic Combats
    Steadfast unique

Slot out Weave and you get to 32% s/l def, which by itself will substantially decrease your incoming damage. Furthermore, it’s one purple insp away from traditional soft-cap for s/l.

Someone with more practical experience with /FA on a scrap may have more in-depth suggestions, but that’s my cookbook for building s/l defense.

It's been my experience that building up s/l def on a resist or regen based character creates something quite sturdy.
  15. I too have a Thermal I'm going to take out of mothballs. Now, if only they'd make Forge pbaoe...

I have a Thugs/FF that's always been on my "A team" (top 10-15 characters) so I'm anxious to use my powerboosted bubbles with him and be "one and done" with the bubbles ("two and done", I suppose).
  16. I don't think it's trickier. With this upcoming change to buffs, I'm having a hard time seeing Pain Dom's advantage over Thermal. Heck I'm having a hard time seeing PD even competing with Thermal.

What PD offers Thermal doesn't now:
    1. A large ally heal that can get you killed
    2. A very nice buff you can use on 1 teammate max.

Thermal can counter #2 with Forge, offsetting the +reg, +rec by being able to buff more teammates, for a slightly smaller +Dmg buff.

With much better resists, similar heals, better debuffs and arguably better offensive buffs (since Forge can be used on 6 teammates), it just seems so one-sided now.

The buff change is good, no doubt, but I'm bummed that I choose PD for my current leveling toon over Thermal because I didn't want to do the double shielding ever 4 minutes this time around.

If my math is right, Hasten (and therefore AM) are both perma at level 15. Your PA is 4 seconds off from perma. You should be able to dance around for 4 seconds. You could get it to perma by 6-slotting all lvl 50 Recharge IOs. Actually... I'm not going to edit the build, but now that I think about it, I'd 5-slot Recharge IOs and leave the Build-Up proc, since exemping is going to trivialize the Accuracy and Damage enh I have in PA above. I'd be content to let RI and EF be PA's accuracy and damage.

I wish I could put more Endurance Reduction in SI, RI and EF, but given the priority for lowbie recharge, I couldn't find slots. I'm sure a more thorough effort could do so.

Edit to add - I noticed a couple of things. I'd probably throw an Accuracy into Lingering Rad. Also swapping SI with GI might be advantageous, endurance-wise.

Here's the math (with my adjusted PA slotting, not what's in the build above):

    Code:
Enh	Ex Adj	ED Adj	With Global	AM+Haste	Rch	Dur	Adj Rch
    AM	180.2	70.4582	70.41238	174.21238	274.21238	422	120	112.7701868
    Hasten	212	82.892	81.6028	185.4028	285.4028	450	120	116.7609576
    PA	212	82.892	81.6028	185.4028	285.4028	240	60	62.27251073

If I were to lead an infiltration of a planet, one of my rules would be "address each other by your new names always" so as to minimize the risk of accidentally shouting out "hey xYzklbibit, can you make mine a non-fat latte?" when xYzklbibit makes a coffee run at the office.

Well, the ones that came to Earth 50-60 years ago were sent to blend in. Certainly they're smart enough to learn other languages, many others, as you just pointed out Sophia fluently spoke English and one from Asia. As for their names, again, they chose those to blend in. Better to name yourself "Simon" than "Gorlok".

The timing of their plot points was rather off too. We have to sit through most of the season (and that idiotic break in between) with the idea that these 'aliens' look exactly like us and speak English fluently from the start... only to find out they were here before us on the last few episodes. That makes sense. Why not throw that out in the middle of the season, at least?
I believe the "we were here before" schtick was brought up earlier, maybe even before the break. I don't remember the specifics, but I remember some references to that, maybe even back to the Inostronka breakout.

I'm going to bet that those lvl 20 recipes were for sets that begin at level 20. I don't really have a guess as to why they would drop if you're rolling in the 15-19 range.

I might take a stab at such a build when I get home and have access to Mids. I'd want to slot 5 sets of purples that give the 10% recharge. This should allow you to skimp on slotting for accuracy, since these purples would give global accuracy over 50%.

    Important - SIX SLOT HASTEN

The exemping adjustments will make a 3 slotted hasten (with lvl 50 IOs) provide about a 50% recharge. 6 slotted will provide 99.5% before ED, meaning about 95% after ED.

I'm not going to do the number crunching right now, but you'll probably need to 6 slot AM for recharge as well. You may be able to frankenslot end mod/rch IOs, but you'll probably need to do something unconventional to get to the 95% recharge mark for AM.

With 5 purples, back of the napkin math shows you need about 50% global recharge to perma PA, which should be doable.

OMG! OMG! OMG! Eden is fixed. EDEN IS FIXED!

I honestly gave up all hope on this getting addressed. I offer a sincere, hearty thank you to the staff for fixing this to work like other trials/tfs/sfs. This is great.

    The Event Finale

I wish someone would make a network completely dedicated to letting cancelled Sci Fi shows finish their plotlines, even if low budget.

    Surface
    V
    SG:U
    The Event
    Theshold
    Invasion
    Flash Forward

Those all come to mind as getting cancelled just as I was starting to get into the show, ending on significant cliff-hangers.

Before telling me the creation of this network for misfit sci-fi shows is not going to happen, yes, I know that.

As for "The Event", yes it had a lot of flaws, not the least of which was the ridiculously long haitus where I truly had begun to mesh "Flash Forward" with it when I was trying to recall what had happened. Rather than dwell on flaws, I'll just say when it ended last night I just had to say "dayum" and hate I won't get to see what comes next.
  24. I'm big Trip Mine fan and it would be hard to dissuade me from taking it. It takes Oblits, so I can get recharge and melee def. When you're soft capped, the interruption is very rare.

Also, escaping prisoners go kablooie when you set up a mine field.

I don't normally get into Corruptor vs Defender debates unless I believe one side is getting under-represented. Usually it comes down to team utility vs soloing and personal damage.

Except in the case of Sonic/Sonic where I believe the Defender is the clear winner. There may be scenarios where the Corr has better personal damage but never a case where the Corr with this combo creates more team damage, at least for teams greater than oh, 4 members.

The mitigation provided by the Def is substantially higher. Base values were provided earlier in the thread, enhanced values become 54% resist for the Defender vs 40% resists for the Corruptor. Not trivial.

For an end game build, Maneuvers and Weave provide higher defense values for the Defender. Because of this, I consider my Sonic/Sonic Defender to be my toughest squishie, with soft-capped range def (I coun't select Scorp Shield when I made this build [I can now]) and hard-capped s/l and other high resists, and mez protection, he's just really hard to kill.
