Bots/Traps - Is Trip Mine Worthwhile?

Looking at doing a respec on my bots/traps and I am considering dropping trip mine. I feel like I rarely use it and when I do its not that effective as once a single mob charges up on me it pops and just kills the first bugger to reach me.

Looking for advice, am I using it wrong or is it just not worth having?

Lay it in the middle of the spawn.

You have FFG and a protector bubble, saunter in there with the seekers are doing their thing. Drop PGT, drop trip mine. Watch bad guys go splodey!

HelinCarnate:OMG it is so terrible. I have the option to take 3 more powers but no additional slots. Boo F'ing hoo.

I think it depends a lot on your personal preferences and play style. As Biowraith said jumping into the middle of the spawn and using it can be a very effective offensive tool.

Now my personal style does not use it, my main concern with personal attacks is holding Aggro and I find Trip Mine to be counterproductive for that and instead use Pulse Rifle Burst, Photon Grenade and Electrifying Fences. While Trip Mine offers better damage the long casting time is not conducive to quickly building aggro.

Other possibilities include leaving a trail of mines leading to your pull position so the first enemy gets killed (or knocked back) by the first mine, and then the next enemy hits the second mine, and so forth.

Or when you're going to be fighting a single hard target (e.g. an EB), set up a lot of mines on one spot to quickly remove a big chunk of their health as soon as combat begins.

Although, both of those options tend to be pretty inefficient in terms of time spent setting up and tend to be better suited to builds/ATs that are not as solo friendly as an MM tends to be - you're usually better/faster to just start a straight fight if your character can handle it (and MM's generally can), rather than spend ages setting up elaborate trap fields. But if that one EB is giving you trouble, it can still be a very effective option.

(oh, and on teams if we're pulling the spawn, or tank is herding, I like to spend that wait time dropping a trip mine or two - might not even be triggered in the fight, but on the other hand might blow up an enemy that was about to melee a squishy teammate)

Toe bombing is nice but the potential to get interupted has made that tactic a maybe at best for me, I got rid of trip in my dream build as I needed the slots elsewhere and 1 slotted trip mine seemed like a waste.

I'm big Trip Mine fan and it would be hard to dissuade me from taking it. It takes Oblits, so I can get recharge and melee def. When you're soft capped, the interruption is very rare.

Also, escaping prisoners go kablooie when you set up a mine field.

If in soloing an AV/tricky mob with massive AoE output, it might for the sake of lowering the fight duration, be worth stacking as many mines as possible in one spot/area and then pull to them to initiate the fight. I tend to do this as a blaster but I don't use them much as an MM, truth be told:

Enemy -----Mines+Caltrops-Me(100ft+ run back and run in)

It can practically make the mines to go off at the right time because they'll only go off if you are close to them.

I think you need to post a build to get an idea of how your working a Robot Traps mastermind.

If your defense capped you can place these items at will. If not then your probably going the Blaster Device route which is only placing one at the beginning of a fight, which is why I can understand why you rarely use it.

Post a build so we get an idea of where your coming from.
