It'd certainly be nice if the mid-mission caption or NPC dialog was voiced over in this game, since it can be a bit frustrating to focus on the battle and ALSO trying to read the bubbles (I end up having to have a box open just for Captions + NPC dialog... but even that can scroll past way too fast at times!). -

BTW, yes they eat (dog meat) dogs in some Asian countries as well as MANY other countries across the world. As a matter of fact in the late 19th century in the US there are many documented cases of Americans eating dog meat dogs by choice as well as necessity.
Of course things have changed over time, but it is not as taboo as people might think. -

The reason I ask is because, having in the interim played many other MMOs, all of which have things to commend them, I've come to realize that CoX is actually one of the best out there. It's well-nigh perfect in so many ways - mainly in that it allows casual players to team up at the drop of a hat. But yeah, nothing major ever needs to change in CoH, it could go on forever. But I guess, to keep up with the times, it would be nice to have the character model graphics updated a bit. Again, nothing drastic, more or less like it is, but better (less boxy models, basically). Cozzies/textures are pretty much ok (apart from a few odd low rez textures here and there still), but it's the models themselves that are just looking too low poly.
One of the few other MMOs I actually like a lot, EVE Online, has managed to gradually reinvent itself graphically more than once, and looks absolutely stunning these days. I know an actual game world with lots of real "clutter" in it is a different kettle of fish from a game that's mostly empty space, but still, Paragon have done great work with the game world, and if I had a remaining wish for CoX going forward it would be this, just better models.

Roll it. I say roll what you feel and have fun. I don't think you should limit yourself if you really want to roll a ranged scrapper. Clearly you are not trying to min/max and just have fun.

PLENTY of people feel exactly what I posted are not strange and are allowed to not define skill or anything else they want to do without your judgement or even comment at this point since it is unwanted and will be considered harassment beyond this point. -

All that said, I do still find it interesting that several people answered a question about how to define skill with declaration about dislike or disinterest in defining skill. Purely for example, and not to pick on them in any way, Emberly gave a non-answer early in the thread. "If the player isn't actively pissing me off, then the player is good enough for me." That doesn't really define skill at all - it declares a low personal threshold for skill (or lack thereof).
I suppose those can be seen as fair ways to respond to the ending questions in Thirty-Seven's post: "Lastly, is skill important? Necessary? Does it even exist as a factor in this game at all?" Some people just skipped the first part of the OP and answered only these. -
Not a bad suggestion, one I can certainly get behind.

To me that does not mean anything other than what it says.I did not assign that title to anyone in particular since it applies to whom it applies too no definition required.
I do find it less than amusing that somehow you got that "I" assigned the title "elitist" to anyone since that was not written by me nor implied. Nobody said you were or that you stress because of the way you choose to play the game.
There was no derailment in "my" post since I was specifically dealing with my perspective on the OP's question and not the additional stuff you added.
If you can seriously say that there are not people that take the game too seriously then we can just agree to disagree right now. Otherwise, I don't see a problem with me mentioning that fact. -

My experience in the game is quite different from here in the forums.
We keep it light, support each other, run activities, tease, cajole and generally all around have a good time.
I can't think of playing this game worried about other people's builds and if they use x power under x condition etc... that is all to much anal retentive behavior for my tastes.
Don't get me wrong we like everyone to pull their weight, but some people just take playing this game way too seriously IMHO. -
Sensational ideas and the only reason we don't see them on TV is the cost/benefit ratio for TV commercials.

How do you define player skill?
I don't, I just play the game. Getting into all the crap that people get into in these forums would totally ruin the game for me.
My in game friends just chat and play, no need to bring all that extra drama into it, when we are all just trying to have fun, that's what the forums are for lol. -

One thing that really chomps my hide is gaming companies talking about code in a retail game that cannot be touched because the person wrote it is gone and the program would collapse if messed with in certain ways like to give use more base functionality.
Argh. Why let "any" code into a retail program that cannot be adjusted, save one guy you are going to fire because you don't like him anyway.... This happens in the computer industry way way way too much. -
