Hello, I recently made a Nin/Nin stalker, currently level 35, and I have a few questions.

1. Everyone seems to say that Gamblers Cut is better than Sting of the Wasp. why is this? I always tend to take the harder hitting power of the 2 starters.

2. Does smoke flash actually work?

Also, if anyone has a build lying around I can borrow, I would appreciate it greatly. Thanks!

Sting is better DPA (damage per activation) wise. The damage it deals is lower, but it is much faster. So in high recharge attack chains where every second is milked, you want the high DPA attacks.

Smoke flash worked on my stalker yes.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

Smoke Flash does work, but... I tended to find that the animation was slow enough that when I was really in need of it I'd die before it would actually activate.

Once I thought I'd found the perfect use for it: Fire it off in a crowd right before the AS attack to avoid eating the alpha strike. However it also alerts the target on a miss, so that doesn't really work either.

So at the end of the day, yes it works, but it's eminently skippable.

Let me also add that I think it's area of effect should be vastly increased. Right now it will only affect enemies in melee range. Thats fine if what you're trying to suggest is 'smoke in the eyes of the target', but you're not. You're trying to suggest 'using the distraction of the smoke flash, the ninja slips from sight'. That should work on someone shooting at you from 50ft away just as well if not better than it does someone within arms reach.

1> Not sure if people say this anymore that gamblers cut is better....if they do...they are using some old statistics like back when the Gambler's cut would critical and then critical again on the critical doing monstrous damage. The developers felt that was a bit over the top and decided to change that...its useful as its another attack to use with out having to redraw your weapon.

2> As others have said it works...and works well....and if you read what others say you will see....this power like many may not be exactly what you want if your play style or skill need for it isnt there. I.E. some would say its a situational power only and dont take it.

I say I like to use it as another Stalker placate power(a power that gets rid of current aggro amounts and also rehides the stalker nothing else but placate does that...and the new remove aggro powers wont be rehiding you either). I also use it for Bomb disposal/console disposal. Like from the old Sister Psyche Task force or from the current Sutter Task force among other places. I also use it against Archvillains and Bosses that are taking too much interest in me and not attacking anyone else on the team...like maybe the TANK...whom may or may not be using Taunts(I say may or may not as sometimes Taunts just dont seam to draw aggro off the Stalker all the time)
Another use is when you just click something and/or are not in a hidden state but want to get there fast....its not a big issue as you go to a hide state fairly quick just you can go into it faster with this....also can be used to hide when you are not using a hide power like during an escort or in pvp when the other players tell you not to use hide.
Its not perfect...its accuracy isnt that great and its radius is a bit small...but it does do what its supposed to.

Even when it doesn't crit at all its DPA is still better.

On a high recharge build, Gambler's Cut fits between your hard hitting attacks perfectly due to its very short cast time. It also recharges very fast, meaning that it is an excellent filler attack if you don't have a lot of recharge.

If you put Gambler's Cut between every Golden Dragonfly or Soaring Dragon, your damage output will be better than trying the same thing with Sting of the Wasp.

I usually take all 3 of the first 3 powers until I get up to the level Soaring Dragon is slotted at, then I respec out of Sting of the Wasp.
