  1. I'm not going to be a pirate...I'm going to be a pirate king!

Wonder why it's only 3 episodes though...
  2. Archer returns tonight on FX. 9:30pm Central. Or so it says in my DVR. Enjoy!
  3. Zombies win. Unless the Vampires can drink animal blood and survive. Of course, there is the matter of the zombies potentially eating the animals ala the first TPB of The Walking Dead.
  4. Dark Horse
Neon Genesis Evangelion: The Shinji Ikari Raising Project vol 1 & 2 - +1
  5. Dark One

    Real Steel

I loved Robot Jox! That's the one where they used a chain weapon and it sawed one of the mech's arms off, right?
  6. Dark One

    Real Steel

I'll probably see it for the same reason I used to watch Battle Bots...namely robots beating the hell outta each other.
  7. Dark One

    Real Steel

Saw the trailers for this flick and the first thing that popped into my mind was, "They made a movie based on Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots?". According to wikipedia, it appears that it's based on a short story from '56.

It does look interesting, I'll give it that. But I just can't seem to get past the resemblence to RESER...
  8. It's pointless to argue about it. I have my opinion, you have yours. You aren't going to magically change my mind about it and I won't change yours. Whether or not you believe I have enough experience to have an "informed opinion", I don't care. I don't believe said system will ever be delivered. I'll leave it at that.

    Good day to you sir.

Subscription-type systems can be pretty rough at answering questions like "when did this payment apply". It might be possible to do it if you were starting from scratch and all subscriptions would be set up in the future and start then, but trying to do it right with existing subs which can be part-way through a multi-month thing would be harder.
And yet, said system can reliably deliver tokens every month, whilst keeping track of how many you've earned and spent. But it can't do a check that amount delivered = amount earned + amount bought? Sorry, I really don't buy the "technical limitation" for this mess up.

Which is to say, not even having seen the specific code, just thinking about what it does, I can imagine a thing which would be hard enough to make work reliably that I would not be comfortable saying that I could deliver it.
And yet, they felt quite comfortable enough to tell people over and over that it was in fact happening. It's only at the 59th minute that they say it's undoable. You would think that maybe, just maybe, they would've known, oh say, last week that they wouldn't get it done or that it was unfeasible.

I am quite comfortable in believing that said system will never be delivered. It doesn't make sense from a standpoint of the F2P setup. Why give the players all their stuff right away, when you can trickle it out over time, which would give the players the impetus to buy more points rather than wait for three months, or however long, to complete say the Celestial set.

You do realize that means exactly nothing, right? At least, professional programmers would realize that. Knowing the language and understanding the situational issues that come up in large scale software development are as far apart as being a veterinarian and subscribing to the Animal Planet channel.
Ah, Arcanaville showing up to knock someone down. Didn't expect that at all.

    /sarcasm

I did say, didn't I, that it was a while ago? I could've sworn I said that. Along with having SOME limited experience, but nowhere near a "professional" such as yourself. But of course, that doesn't matter to Arcanaville.

I'll leave it here as I really don't care to converse to any length with you.

    IOW:
Miss the part where I said "Overly simplistic"? And yes, I've had a few programming classes in C++ (did quite well in them) and TA'd a class or two on Visual Basic back in college. Though granted, it has been a few years since I last bothered with the stuff. And you know no more about the code base than anyone else who hasn't decompiled it and went through it.

They can figure out how to award the tokens every month, but they can't figure out how to do a lump sum deposit? They also managed to figure out how to tie awarding of badges to subscription time, but they just can't wrap their heads around doing this?

If it was such a massively complicated and difficult problem, why were the Community people allowed to tell everyone over and over that there would be, in fact, a lump deposit? And they only just discovered that they wouldn't be able to do it a day before it goes Live?

That is, of course, presuming that he maintains a monthly sub for the course of a year. He may not. Whereas the $144 up front was pretty much guaranteed. They could get $0, $180, or anything in between.

And I'm getting pretty jaded in my old age. Because I can't really see "technical limitations" being behind this. Especially when they drop yet another bombshell on us (also a day before) Issue 21 goes live.

    IF paid_submonths = 12 THEN reward.token = reward.token + 20

Overly simplistic I know. But it doesn't really seem like it's all that hard of a problem to figure out. You would think if it was truly a "technical issue" there would've been more time between knowing it wasn't ready and being allowed to inform us of said issue.

5 hours. 303:21 minutes remaining. 134KB/sec. And that's just for the download, no idea how long it'll take to actually patch.

Actual downtime didn't matter because I was asleep. I tried the updater a few hours ago and there was no listing for updating. Whereas I tried it about 20 minutes ago and it finally gave the option to update.

The new updater doesn't support pre download.
    It is also MUCH faster.

And; how does 5 hours hurt you? the downtime is over 10 hours!
Not "faster" to me. I've always been able to download patches at the cap of my bandwidth. This new patcher is not measurably, to me, faster than the old one. Plus, apparently, it has the added downside of not allowing predownloads. In other words, it got worse with the switchover.
  13. Only 5 hours for the fricking 2.5gb download. Real cockup there with not having a predownload period.
  14. That sucks. He was really good in Spartacus.

    Exactly.

See what the sales are like in six months. It's just like with MMOs. You get that initial surge, but then it drops off after a bit.

But that just means that next year there'll be a new #1 for each of the comics as the initial artists/writers move on to other projects.

There's a saying, I can't remember who said it though,

Sadly, most of the 16 mini-series really didn't deal with the whole Flashpoint thing.
Like I said, I was just counting July and August in that. I didn't even really bother keeping track of, well, anything dealing with Flashpoint.
  20. LoT was a good guy. I wondered what had happened to him as he just...disappeared...from the forums. Sadness. Trust me, it didn't go unnoticed, at least by me. LoT is the second person I've known on here (in so far as one can "know" a person on the internet, I wouldn't say we were "friends", but friendly enough) that has passed away.

Or if there's a particular storyline...when someone would ask what to get if they wanted to read Batman: Year One, I could tell them. Four issues of Batman, consecutive. Done. No other books to buy. But try and read, say, Blackest Night. I need ******* Wikipedia to tell me what books I need, and I can't tell if I need all the crossovers -- are some just brief mentions, or do they all affect the plot in a significant way?
I counted it up one time for the Flashpoint books for July and August (there was a listing in some other DC comics). There was something like 32 or more comics for those two months. Something like 16 or so different titles that the damn story was jumping around in. How is anyone supposed to keep up with that?

(Or I could just accept that not everybody likes the same things I do but demanding Geek cards is more fun).
Blade Runner is one of those movies that I want the time it took to watch it back. Utter frickin' garbage. I could only stand to watch it for about 10 minutes at a time before wanting to do something more exciting, like count the holes in my ceiling tile. The DVD I've got is labeled "Director's Cut" and came out in 1999. I've watched it a grand total of ONCE. It is getting donated to Goodwill or the Salvation Army or something. I don't want the damn thing in my collection.

I would sooner keep my Highlander 2 DVD over Blade Runner.

See, I got a few laughs out of the DBZ movie. Was it great? Not even close. But I don't have the attachment factor with DBZ itself. I've seen lots worse movies than that one. Blade Runner, Highlander 2, District 9, to name a few.
