    leveling to 50

    [ QUOTE ]
Why the rush? This game is not a race, Pling and Farming is not the best way to enjoy this game imo.

What do you plan to do once you are a tricked out 50? You will have missed 99% of the content of the game and there is NO endgame.

  2. Holy Crudola! Those are great!

I especially like the last one, her expression is perfect. Makes me want to get back into 3D modelling myself.

    Well done.

    Now What?

    [ QUOTE ]
Short term: no change (albeit possible US Forum migration).
Long Term: Pack your suitcases, I can't see it lasting without an EU.team to cater for our support.

I think they'll just wait for all the hullaballoo to quiet down before shuffling us over there this year sometime.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Bring it on and get it over with I say.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
I have to say I'm pretty disgusted at NC West's behaviour, not so much now that this has happened because as FFM indicated earlier on in this thread, It is clear the EU.arm of operations for CoX is not sustainable, but more because there is no excuse for leaving us hanging in the wind like this.

I would suggest they just get it over and done with, concentrate on GuildWars and Aion and give us a full and comprehensive transfer to the US servers which clearly offers better service and forum feedback on this our beloved CoX. I'd say please be careful not to be haphazard or half-hearted about transfers, because as people have indicated... If they lose aspects of their characters they have worked hard to create they'll just leave. It may be easier for NCWest/NCSoft in the short-term to do a Tabula-rasa style offer but it will work out far worse for them in the longterm. EU.Subscribers will just leave.

I'm waiting to hear from NCWest next, but honestly!, they couldn't of done a better job at pushing 150,000 subscribers further towards the competition if they'd tried. How sad.

So, If the suspected transfers go ahead, I'll see you stateside - or If the US.account transfer offers are poor...Hope to see all your characters I love replicated in Millenium City or Metropolis/Gotham.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is pretty much my feelings on the matter as well. I really really hope that if they do wind up the EU servers and send us stateside, they do it properly and in a way that will make sure they retain their players rather than sending us in the opposition's direction.

As for the staff at Brighton... guys, it's been a pleasure to have you as neighbours in Trafalgar Place for the past few years. I still miss chin wagging with Big K or trying to bribe Aero with pints in the Albert. So for those that are going, I wish you all the very best in whatever you go on to. This community is one of the reasons I feel incredibly disappointed with any other MMOs I try and the mods are part of that so thanks for all your hard work, especially in what has been a trying year.

Now, come on NCNC, pull your socks up and tell us what've going on. I pay your wages you know.
  6. Yes the endurance is a killer.

You will need Stamina but it will get better once you do. PA particularly is a hefty summon. At least at 35, you can pick up Transference which should cure those problems. Just remember that the only pet that's puffable is the Phantasm and you many not want to do that for the reasons I mentioned above. Otherwise enjoy, it's a wild ride.
  7. I can recommend Illusion/Kinetics as a nice build to play. Illusion has some long recharges and Siphon Speed can slash them dramatically. IIRC, I've got Phantom Army down to about 20 seconds downtime. It's manic, as most things are with Kins but it's good fun from an early level.

The only thing you have to be aware of is that Phantasm does Knockback and that can be detrimental to the Kinetics playstyle.
  8. Seems to work fine as it is for a Corruptor primary. The damage would scale with AT, giving Blasters a better damage output with a bit of utility.
  9. Yes dammit. I need three days worth of utter geeking out. It's good for my system!

    Bring it on I say!

A bit more OT: concerning the dark blast set for blasters; take out dark pit and add dark obliteration in its stead and replace life drain with an aim power of sorts

[/ QUOTE ]Replace Dark Pit with Dark Obliteration, give Life Drain the Siphon Life treatment and replace Tenebrous Tentacles with Aim.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That would pretty much guarantee I'd never play it. Let other sets have AoE attacks and Aim. Keep Dark Blast unique!
  11. [ QUOTE ]
Guilds just like the whole "darkness/twilight = mysterious" cliche because it makes them feel more aloof and/or badass than, say, if they all just ran about with fake suntans and Dayglo orange tshirts (which would actually be much better evidence of them being REALLY evil)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Number 113 on the Evil Overlord List: I will dress in bright, cheery colours to confuse my enemies.

There was a quote on one of my old Magic cards that read "Light dispells darkness but in doing so creates shadows". I always liked that.

Someone on these boards also has a rather groovy one in their sig that says something like: "Light thinks it's the fastest thing in the universe but wherever it goes, it always finds that darkness has got there first." But I digress.

A light blast set might be fun but I'd want it to have a better effect than Luminous Blast. Maybe rather than -acc in Dark Blast, it could have +acc by illuminating the area? Meh, just an idea. Not sure if I'd play it but it's a nice concept thing.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
a hero with dark powers......and when are we gonna ask for light basts for domminators?
really, not to nickpick but, we are hero's ppl, and hero's are not the kind of guy's/girl's to use dark blasts.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My D3 says you're talking cobblers.
  13. Personally I hope they do nothing to Dark before being ported to Blasters. I expect the -acc will be adjusted to be less powerful than Defenders of course but I don't think the soft controls are overpowered. Dark Pit's accuracy and recharge is rubbish, an Immobilize does nothing to stop enemies firing at you and the less said about Torrent and its knockback the better. I'd say that the soft controls in Dark are no better than something with similar soft controls e.g. Sonic.
  14. Actually, this thread does make me wonder: what is the best thing to try and trick out a Claws/Regen with? More regen? Max HP, some other form of defence such as +resist or +def? Or is +recharge recommended so heals are up more regularly?
  15. [ QUOTE ]
Hmm. I've never really given defenders a chance. But then I'm not really the healer type.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think your problem with them may well be contained within that very sentence.

For me, Stalkers. They're like slightly gimped Scrappers to me although admittedly since the recent buffs, they've got a bit better. I've still never gotten one into double figures though.
  16. QR (late for work!)

IIRC, (will check later) I seem to remember a CoV arc where you had to break a villian out of a place called the Zag which was apparently their facility for detaining captives in the Isles. Whether it was a permanent prison or just somewhere to keep them before transferring them to the Zig, I can't remember.
  17. Recently, when I became a little jaded with the EU servers and thought that any gameplay I would get would be at 3 in the morning (don't you love newborns?), I got myself a US account. Rolling up on Virtue was a strange taste of nostalgia. I had no 50s, no veteran powers and absolutely no influence. I had to scrimp and save for every enhancement but I tell you what, it really felt as if I'd earnt them.

Since then, any new character I've rolled (unless it's a concept that needs a lot of investment) I try and earn my way on. It certainly keeps those early levels more entertaining than before. Not sure if I'd quite go the the lengths the OP suggested (and yes, I know it was a lighthearted suggestion) but denying some of those things that have made life so easy has rejuvenated the early levels for me.
  18. The End Is The Beginning Is The End

    Some things start quite innocently…

When the Militia investigated the rise of pro-mutant group Amanecer del Mutante and took down one of their ringleaders in the Hollows, they had no idea of the events that would unfold. Escaping the hideout just in time to avoid being buried alive inside its collapsing frame, they had no idea that their actions had led to the destruction of an ancient temple beneath that contained a relic capable of manipulating time at its user’s whim. Although thought lost, one knew of its existence, Lord Erebus, who on learning of its destruction descended into a vengeful rage. Manipulating the temporal shockwave created from the device’s explosion, he sent it howling in the direction of the Militia’s base, The Dugout in King’s Row.

The first anyone knew of the shockwave was when it hit. Random and indiscriminate in its effect, it displaced Crimson Archer, The Amber Banshee, Bastinado, White Vampyr, Wavekite as well as nearby German hero Uebermensch sending them through time to the Mediterranean town of Elna somewhere in the second century CE. Stunned by their arrival, they shared their experiences realising that an object of some sort had been visible as they fell through the time warp. Seeing a golden sceptre that manipulated time, they were under no doubts as to what had brought them here. Bastinado noted that a broken message had been left on his phone by Portal Corps, requesting assistance. Could this have been the cause of their time-jump they wondered? Adapting to the time zone, White Vampyr was able to steal some sailcloth at superspeed, enough to fashion rough clothes from it. The Amber Banshee secured a robe from an enclave of mystics who welcomed the strangers while Bastinado took on a cadre of soldiers who had been tormenting peasants, securing a set of stylish armour.

Having rescued a number of the mystics, they were able to confirm that the device, known as the Omnichronotron, had been fashioned by the genius blacksmith Ion but had recently been stolen by the brutal overlord Dominus. The heroes realised that the only way to retrieve the device was to liberate the town by taking down Dominus himself. Fighting overwhelming odds, the team broke his power base, even some of the strange machinery he had brought back from the future. It was during shutting down one of the robots that The Amber Banshee received a stunning shock from one of the devices that took her out of the fight for a number of minutes.

When Dominus fell, the team retrieved the Omnichronotron and activated it, hoping desperately that it would return them back to their home time. As the lights swirled and flashed, the party accelerated in time, returning to Kings Row. But it was not the Kings Row they remembered. The place was ruined, destroyed, as if it had been hit by a nuclear bomb. Locating a nearby Vanguard base, they discovered the horrible truth. This was Paragon in 2039, they had jumped too far ahead! Thirty years ago, the Rikti had managed to reconnect with their home world, bringing through a legion of motherships to decimate the entire world. A newspaper cutting found by Wavekite confirmed that the Rikti had formed multi-dimensional alliances, placing portals in alternate dimensions similar to their own and then linking them like a giant series of batteries. The first sign of them becoming operational had been noted by Portal Corps moments before they had left. Suddenly, the broken message made sense: without them there to respond, the warning signs had gone unheeded. This future was the direct result of their absence from the time stream at a vital point in human history.

The Omnichronotron lay dark and lifeless in Amber’s hand. Vanguard scientists, intrigued by the device deduced that it required a temporal portal to work through. Elna had been rich in them whereas this area was relatively lifeless. However, the Rikti, where they had been experimenting with forming a stable link to their homeworld might have something the time trapped team could use. White Vampyr believed that she could manipulate the energies of a Rikti portal so that it could become a focus for the device. It was worth a try. Forming an uneasy alliance with Vanguard, the team agreed to help them in return for being given locations of possible Rikti portal activity. Only too glad to join them was Leo Wright, a member of the New Vigilants who had been swept forwards to this time by the temporal displacement wave. Together they battled the Rikti only to find a more pressing threat. While Wavekite worked with Vanguard to locate a stable portal, the team was shocked to be joined by The Portent of 2039. Older but none less deadly, The Portent revealed that Lord Nemesis, still active in this time zone, had learnt of the Rikti attempts and the Omnichronotron. With a combination of the two technologies, he would be able to travel to any time in any dimension. It was imperative that he was stopped.

Fighting together, the team found more allies, Leatherette, Solarsmash and Danitaras who assisted them in fighting their way past both Rikti and Nemesis into the heart of the Rikti portal operation. In a last stand, they stood against an army of foes, impossible odds. Knowing that the only thing preventing this nightmare future was returning the team to their own time, The Portent told the team he was ‘going to buy them some time’. He threw himself into the horde of Nemesis troops, overloading his critically damaged armour. The explosion devastated the army and shook the room as the team watched aghast. But The Portent’s sacrifice bought Bastinado enough time to jury rig an emergency teleport for the team to the steps of the portal where White Vampyr manipulated its energies to change it from a dimensional rift to a temporal one. Tearfully, The Amber Banshee operated the golden rod, focussing their intent on the right time and the right place. Home.

With a boom, the team returned to King’s Row, 23rd January 2009. It was as if they had never left. White Vampyr collapsed from the exertion of focusing the portal and was rushed to the Watchmen's Bunker for treatment, Bastinado attending to her. Running to see what had caused the sound, Luna Starbright and the present day Portent found the tired and bedraggled team frantically trying to establish what time and date it was. They had succeeded, returning one hour before the activation of the Rikti’s portal network. Rushing to Portal Corps, the team surprised the staff there by asking about an anomaly they’d only just spotted. Setting up the jump, the team joined Calm Lightning, Gall and Damsel who had been assigned to investigate the strange signal.

Entering into the strange dimension, they were attacked by a number of psychically powered soldiers. Amongst them, a Nictus spy, sent in advance, prepared his weapon to fire at Luna. Running to stop him, Amber found herself unexpectedly flying, speeding towards the foe before he could fire. A life long dream realised, but when she realised she was hovering in the air, she fell, unable to work out how or why she had managed to fly. But there was no time to waste. Battling through the hordes, they found one of the Rikti allies who was acting as a psychic focus for the portal network. In an epic battle, they defeated her, removing the most vital link with only minutes to spare. With no focus, the network collapsed, leaving the Rikti with no way of communicating with the teleporters in the network.

Tired, spent and exhausted, the team emerged from the other dimension back into present Earth, victorious, the enemy plans defeated.

((And that’s how The Militia, first formed at level 1, and the Hyperion Watchmen hit level 50 over the DXP weekend. Congratulations to all who dinged the big five oh and many thanks to all those who joined us during the weekend. ))

    SS and WP

    [ QUOTE ]
Lets say that SS/WP is the godly uber setup that the OP claims it is.
Now, if that gets nerfed, and is now as powerfull as (to use as a guidline) axe/EA.
What about those who use either of those sets with a different primary or secondary?
Your DM/WP who used to be as 'strong' as axe/EA is now underpowered.
Your SS/fire now cant put out the same damage he used to, which lowers his survivability.
Nerfing a pair of powers because, if combined, they have good synergy, will not help anything. You still have a power set that works good in that combination, but less so in others, removing balance from even more combinations than you tried to fix.

And no, i dont think either are overpowered.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Pretty much the same reason why Fire/Kinetics Controllers are hard to nerf. Neither of the sets are overpowered on their own but together, they become awesome. So anyone that has a different combination suffers regardless.

I have a SS/WP Brute. Haven't played her in about 90 days. My SS/Fire is a lot more fun. Maybe it's not because they're good. Maybe it's just because they're easy. And people like easy.

    Your Blasters...

    [ QUOTE ]
I am currently power levelling a sonic/energy blaster.
some of the powers are awesome and honestly i cannot wait until she is fully enhanced.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My main is a Sonic/Energy Blaster. Just dinged 50 over the DXP weekend. Serious fun.
  21. Not bad so far however you seem to have skipped Screech which is one of the best attacks in the Sonic set. A Mag3 stun which will couple really nicely with Howling Twilight if you want to use it as a control rather than a rez (three recharges = up every minute). I'd say consider dropping Howl to get it. Howl is mediocre on a Blaster so I think it'd only be useful on a Defender for applying the -res to an entire spawn. I guess it depends on what you're going for.

In terms of order, personally I'd take Fearsome Stare as soon as it becomes available and leave Shadowfall till about 22. With that and Darkest Night running, it could get quite expensive in terms of endurance. Once you've got Stamina and SOs, it'll become a lot easier on the blue bar.

Amplify is an ok buff but it's not as important as some of the other powers in the sets. I've never found Aim style powers much use on Defenders but your mileage may vary as they say.

As for your epics, consider Oppressive Gloom rather than Dark Consumption. It's another stun to add to your arsenal of stuns and is great for keeping you safe in melee range. On my D3, I don't get into melee much unless I'm nuking them or using Howling Twilight on a fallen ally but when I do, it's wildly effective at mitigating damage and costs very little. It costs piddling amounts of endurance and the self damage is completely mitigated with Health.

    Hope that helps some.

    Presence Pool

Found that on my D3. I'm not looking for a hard control, just looking for a way to hold mobs in place while Ignite, FA and Flamethrower tick away. But I'm not sure if the terrorize effect is the same as Fearsome Stare or whether it's more like 'old-style' Fear in that they run.

I figure that Ignite will make them leg it as well but will the terrorize effect override that? Hmmm, I might go do some tests on the Test Server. Just wondered if anyone else had ever tried it.

    Presence Pool

    Hi folks, just a quickie.

I'm considering the build of my AR/En Blaster and was wanting to gain a little bit more control over the battlefield. I love Fearsome Stare so I was wondering what Invoke Panic was like and whether anyone has ever tried it on a Blaster? (Aside from the longer recharge/less duration)

I thought something like Build Up->Invoke Panic->Ignite->Full Auto->Flamethrower might be quite nice. Possible?
  24. Amber shook her head slightly, clearly her hand signals hadn't been clear.

"Exactly what I was thinking," she said. "I have a special song for this van."
