  1. Some more ideas from my fetid imagination:

    Not Dead Yet
    The Expendables
    European Cash Cow
    Server Shutdown Watch
    The Doom Patrol
    Down But Not Defeated
    We LIVE!
    Still Kicking A**
    Overseas Cynics
Negative Reputation (great for a Villain group!)
    Super Euros
    European Empire
    The Outsider Collective

Although I think a few of those might be a tad OTT.

I can see that the group would probably naturally divide once moralities are established in Praetoria but as long as we had a Hero SG and a Villain SG, there would be natural homes for them. And straddling both of them would be the channel that could be used for teaming, events and general chit chat.

I’ll be keeping my newly planned Kin/Dark in reserve for this if it takes off.
  2. Thank you for posting Avatea. I certainly don't envy you the task of communicating with us rowdy lot over this issue.

A mistake is a mistake and I'm glad that it's being worked on. I think that perhaps it would take the most cynical of minds to think that it was some covert attempt to get us all to uproot and head to the NA servers. However the fact remains that we have watched a decline in service since the EU offices closed and as our numbers dwindle, we see no attempt to try and either bring more people to the EU and nothing that reassures us that we're not about to be closed down and forgotten about.

I know that you are limited in what you can say but this isn't about words. Our patience has been tested over the past two years and has been worn thin. When it comes to the future of the EU servers, action speaks volumes.
  3. I certainly favour events. I reckon if we get this up and running we could run regular raids/TFs/SFs etc. If we're avoiding mentioning servers then something along the lines of:

    EU Survivors
    Europe United
    European Outcasts
    Forgotten Europe
    The Marginals
    The Outsiders

I think we'll need some idea of how SGs/VGs will work in GR as well though. It could well be that you can't get an invite to one until you pick a side. I guess we'll find out.

*Sigh* And of course, this idea prompted me to come up with yet another alt... One day I'll find a cure...

That is a very good question and one that deserves answering: What would the Devs (or any other NCSoft representative) have to say to reassure the EU player base?

I’m in a frivolous mood so here’s my top five announcements I’d like to see. I fully expect someone to come along and pull them apart in some callous fashion so I’ll state that there’s a degree of sarcasm in what follows:

    [sarcasm]

    1) Good news everyone! Following our regular maintenance period, you will find the four EU servers added to the list of NA servers. All EU players will now be able to access the NA list and all NA players can access the EU. Our community is now one!

    2) Due to the unviability of the EU servers, we have decided to wind them down with the aim of switching them off by the end of the year. From Monday you will be able to transfer you characters to any of the NA servers for free using the redesigned Passport system. You will retain all inf, enhancements, badges and Booster Packs but Supergroups and Prestige will unfortunately be lost…

    3) With the advent of Going Rogue, NCSoft is pleased to announce the opening of NCEurope in Germany to exclusively market NCSoft games outside of North America. Due to our location next to the servers, we will be able to tackle lag and rubberbanding instantly by giving the hamster a poke with a sharp pencil…

    4) NCSoft is pleased to announce our presence at Memorabilia in November this year following the release of banner ads, website and magazine promotions earlier in this year. Hundreds of free trial discs have been distributed on the cover of EU magazines for them to try out what Going Rogue on our European Servers is like. We look forward to meeting you there!

But quite frankly this would be a good start:

    5) We are pleased to announce that [Name] and [Name] have been appointed as representatives for the EU servers and will be responsible for updating the EU servers, updater and website and will be aggressively marketing the game outside of the North American territory. They will be running events on the EU servers, competitions and will be attending sci-fi and comic conventions across Europe to get our brand name out there.

    [/sarcasm]

As much as the Devs want to help, I can’t help feeling that all they are working on is a redesign of the teaming interface. Which while good, will do nothing to solve the problem of empty, unloved servers. If I’m wrong, and it’s something far more radical, I will probably do something rash and hugely embarrassing in excitement. Again.

    Sorry for lowering the tone.

    Bad Team Bingo

This made me laugh big. I'll be keeping a copy of this open with every PuG from now on.

    Great work.
  6. I’ve been away so have only been able to browse this thread from my mobile so apologies for my lateness contributing (and yes, I did read every single post ). I think that someone in NCSoft needs to make some hard decisions when it comes to the future of the EU. Alas, I do not think that decision will be made by any of the Devs who read and participate on these boards. More likely, it’ll be a decision made by some suit in an office somewhere staring at a spreadsheet full of subscription numbers and dollar signs rather than this thread.

I think that for us in the EU, we heard the death knell the moment that the Brighton offices were gutted. I don’t want to paint a rosy picture of how things used to be, but when we had an EU office, we saw things such as EU competitions, events, meet & greets, good gods even this bizarre creature known as ‘publicity’ at a few of the sci-fi and comic fairs. Once the Brighton office was closed, we knew it was the beginning of the end. It took a week from the announcement of the closure for anyone from NCSoft to have the decency to turn up on our EU boards and offer us any reassurances as to what was going on. Even then, it was the same, non-specific retort we have come to expect in the two years following.

Last summer, we saw the merging of our boards and although this is an excellent thing that has allowed us wider participation with our US brethren, we still have yet to see anything that reflects that with regards to our servers.

I regard the EU part of these boards to be something I wander into vaguely if there’s something worth discussing. Unfortunately, all too often it is for threads full of people who used to be passionate, zealous advocates of this game who I have sadly watched become more and more jaded as time has gone on. I know, I can smell my own.

As I said, someone needs to make a hard decision about the EU. Either NCSoft has to give us the right publicity, support and drive to promote the game outside of the US or they should pull out of Europe altogether and offer the EU subscribers free transfers (badges, vet rewards etc included) to the NA servers. (Or heaven forbid, the much wanted server list merger!) Rather that than the lacklustre, ‘wait for EU subscribers to start new accounts in the US’ lip service that we receive at the moment. I could list the differences in service we receive but I hate the ‘entitlement whine’ as much as the next person. I just want to see parity between the two regions either by increasing support for the EU or doing the decent thing and making us one community. But as time goes on, I see the likelihood of this becoming less and less. I love participating with our US cousins on these boards, all I want to is to be able to do the same in game.

I’ll sit tight, keep playing and do my best to be patient. But I fear for a lot of us, that patience is running out.

    g-a-y supergroup

    Holy thread necromancy Batman!!!
  8. As I will be rolling some new characters in Going Rogue, I'm happy to support this. Assuming that Europe has been ‘Devoured’ in Praetoria, we can be a bunch of European exiles together.

I also favour Union but I’ll go with the majority.

I believe they were given a new account on the US servers with six months free play time. However, that was before booster packs, veteran awards, even global names IIRC.

And thank you Newty, the long version still made perfect sense.

Then as a professional games tester, what would be your suggestion for resolving this issue? That's meant with no sarcasm by the way, I'm not a hugely technical person but people here are suggesting solutions they would like to see. As someone who has experience of the games industry, I would be curious to know what you'd suggest.

People like to vent, to let off steam and as someone who has been part of the EU community for over four years, I find it sad that a lot of loyal people have slowly become more and more jaded with the service we've received. So I certainly don't blame some people for being more *ahem* vocal in their concerns. Even my belief in the company has taken a nose dive since the Brighton offices were closed and I think we'd all like to see something restore our faith in NCSoft rather than more "Soon" announcements.
  12. Dante

    Tara a bit!

This is very sad news. I can't say I've had the honour of teaming with you but your contribution to the community and tireless campaigning for the EU speaks volumes. I do hope to see you again soon. Until then, good fortune.

I still maintain the best answer was the one someone else had earlier. Add 4 new servers to the US list, call them the same names and do a blanket copy of everything that's on the EU servers. Then close the EU ones down. As the meerkat says, simples.

That way, no one loses any access, badges, accounts, anything. The ONLY issue I can see is in a globla name conflict and that can be sorted with either a rename or a EU adding to the end of it. Give players the choice. I can't even see it affecting the RP players either as my understanding is that it's the toon that they RP, not the account.

Hell, I'd even be happy to have a few days/a week off from the game while they implement it. Ideally, it shouldn't take too long as it's just a transfer of data which they can obviously access already, but even if they needed to transfer the dtata physically, I'd be happy to wait!

Come on, people, you know it makes sense!
This would be my preference too.

Personally, the bonuses look like fluff and I'm not that bothered by them but this post sums it up nicely. It's the principle of it that annoys me more than anything.

    Thanks, we love you too.

If they opened transfers to the US, I would flat out ask my RPSG whether they intended to move their subscription over there and if enough said yes, I'd go too. The only reason I stay on the EU is because of our community so it's fair enough to say that if enough of the community moved over there, I'd shift as well.
  16. Another day, another disappointment.

Thank you for posting Avatea, I am glad that at least someone is keeping an eye on this board but I think the patience of a lot of us EU players is wearing thin. With no information and no incentive to play in the EU other than our excellent albeit rapidly dwindling community over here, I think EU morale is at an all time low.

Don't take it personally, I know it's likely the domain of someone higher up in NCSoft but we don't want promises, we want answers. Just something to let us know we're not being left to die in the dark out here.

    Keep calm and carry on?

That's about the same attitude I've been using recently. I could reel off the usual 'second class citizen' rap but I'm tired of doing so. I'm just going to enjoy my time in game and try not to worry about it.

Hmmm, I can see myself having to play my Corruptor, Little Miss Mayhem some more now...

Funny thing is, as much as I adore her new look, her belt buckle bothers me. As someone used to wearing heavy buckles, I can tell that from looking at that one, it'll kill your stomach once you sit down...
  19. I think I'd go for 'The Neurotic...'

    :P
  20. Around my mid-20s is when I make an honest assessment. Pre-SOs and pre-Stamina, it's hard to really appreciate what a toon is capable of. Only once I've got those in place do I begin to wonder whether I really enjoy a toon or not.

The other thing that'll keep me going is concept. If it's a strong character concept and I've got a good team backing me up, I'll often persevere. Either that or knowing that there is a key power that gels everything together. I hated my Kin/Ice at first but kept going until Fulcrum Shift and now I love it.

I quite enjoy my Stone/SS Tanker. He can hold aggro and deal out a fair lick of damage too. Rage does help a lot however, unless you have a lot to throw at recharge bonuses, the -65% recharge debuff from Granite will make sure you can kiss goodbye to perma-rage.

Of course, you'll be waiting till 38 for any AoE damage but fortunately, the knockdown can give plenty of time to breathe and for your regen to tick over too. And don't forget, the -runspeed of Rooted is another thing that you might find annoying. I tend to do most of my fighting in the regular Stone Armours and I do pretty well. But I tend to think of Granite as my 'high level, big team, huge threat' mode.

Unfortunately, whatever you throw your inf at overcoming - Run Speed, Recharge or Damage, it's pretty hard to counter all of them unless you're absolutely loaded. But then that's the price for being one of the hardest things to kill in game.
  22. This makes me sad too. I'm pleased that people are having a good time on the NA servers but it also means we've lost some quality people over here too. I tried for the fourth time on the NA servers last week and cancelled just as quickly. I think I've just invested too much into my alts on Union to just dump them all. Plus I miss my friends.

Sad to see you go as well Fury, I hope that we do get our list merge and then maybe we'll see you again. This from the latest post by Black Pebble on the Marketing thread:

    Quote:
    The European Community
I have extensively read the pressing issues from our European customers – it was in one of those threads that someone referred to CoH Marketing (and not in the most positive way) as a “Black Pebble” so that’s where I got my board handle from. Although my role focuses on North America, it does not mean Europe is off my radar.

Please know that we are very aware of your concerns, and we are not ignoring them. We are working to increase the visibility of CoH in Europe, but also the attention our European customers get. There are multiple initiatives in place, and once they’re close to fruition, I would love to share the details with all of you. Until then, I can reassure you that our European customers are very important to us, and we want to make certain that the things we do for you provide significant value.
We can but wait and hope to hear what's going to happen.

    Im New

Welcome aboard, I hope you enjoy yourself here.

We were all new once so any questions you have, don't be afraid to ask them. This really is one of the best game communities on the internet and you'll find plenty of people willing to be supportive of new players.
  24. Dante

    ((RP Questions))

    1) I never use the first person perspective. Occasionally I'll give it a go but I actually find it ruins my immersion more than improving it.

    2) How far into the character you go is entirely up to you. Some folks just throw out their battle cries and read out the mission text in character. Others will act, live and breathe according to their character's nature. I find the key to getting into a situation is to ask myself each time "How would my character respond to this?" rather than going with the game mechanics. For example, one of my Blasters used to be so timid, she'd not enter melee, even if that's where the heals were coming from with a Kinetics user on the team. You've just got to be prepared to live with the consequences (i.e. faceplanting in my case. )

If you get very deep into a character, sometimes their responses become natural and that can even be surprising when they do something you weren't consciously expecting. That's all part of the fun though.
