  1. From my perspective, I still love the game and have a loyalty to it in the same way others have their football team. On the whole, CoX, the Devs, the playerbase as a whole - they're my team and I love to cheer them on.

And then they introduced the Incarnate system which in my opinion was an own goal and then followed it up by effectively telling the EU players their loyalty was worthless. And that was more of a swift kick right up in the happy sack.

So I follow their fortunes like others follow a team. We have good seasons, we have bad seasons. Right now there have been some very poor decisions and I'm hoping they will recover. But they're still my team and I still love supporting them. Hope that makes sense.

Bleugh. Watching Torchwood because I miss Doctor Who would be like eating gravel because I miss Sugar Puffs.
  3. Hmmmm... Scirocco sounds good. I think I'll have to give that a spin. As for facing a lot of heroes, well if I can solo the Maria Jenkins arc, I figure I might manage it. Pack a lot of lucks and a metric ton of recharge.

    Thanks folks
  4. Hi folks.

Having just dinged my latest 50 tonight, my Fire/Fire Blaster is on his way redside to pick up Scorpion Shield just as soon as I've spent all my Hero Merits.

Which patron arc would you recommend out of the four? I like to play for story so I'm wondering which were the most appealing to you. I have run Ghost Widow's twice I believe so I'm not in a hurry to repeat that. Recommendations welcomed! Thanks.
  5. Dante's rule of thumb when it comes to Top Ten Lists:

Never trust anything that uses the phrase 'of all time'. It demonstrates a very poor grasp of temporal mechanics.

Conspiracy theorists, I want at least 3 different explanations by this time tomorrow of how this is a Nemesis plot.
The first figure is the amount of inf you need to gain T4s on all post Alpha Incarnate slots without doing a trial.

The second figure is how many shards you'll need to collect.

    Question on RP

Open world RP is rarely seen these days but it does occur sometimes, mostly at popular hang out spots like Pocket D or Galaxy Girl (while it lasts) on Union. Your best bet is to join RP orientated global channels and look up some of the RP supergroups going. You might want to check out some of the threads in the Roleplaying forum as well.

And just to mention, Union is the other unofficial RP server, just in case you wanted to try there as well.
  8. To be honest, I don't see enough unique in the PPD, Seers or IDF troops to make a PEAT very interesting. And although I like the rocket launcher packs, they're not as versatile as the crab backpack. Otherwise it'd be guns and psi attacks which we already have with VEATS.

If we absolutely had to have a PEAT (and personally, I hope the love affair with Praetoria ends very soon) then a Devoured Earth AT would be far more interesting. Now we are seeing what people look like as they are devoured, it could make for an interesting level progression as the mutation takes hold. Although I expect there would be great raging over having character appearance dictated to us.

Personally I think the Rikti AT has a lot more potential.

Fair enough, I guess that means I can enjoy both separately as individual stories.

    Carry on.

  11. *Grumbles*

Grrr... I was hoping to be able to discuss one of my favourite shows in here but as I haven't read the books yet, I've already been hit with several spoilers I didn't need to see.

So far, season 4 is slow with nothing really noteable happening other than Bill's rise to power. But then, we're only two episodes in so I'm expecting things to kick up soon enough.

But that's just opinion.
    Utter truth: Human speaks.
    Rikti EAT: Necessary!

I do too. As long as they make the same commitment to solo/small team content.

Just because raids dominate the endgame of other MMOs, doesn't mean we have to be the same.
  14. Unfortunately, I don't think there's any rationale for encouraging us to do raids beyond: 'other MMOs have a raid based endgame, so should we.'

    In praise

I do love my tips, I do. They may be small bites of story but they allow my heroes to be heroes and my villains to be villains. And my various collection of shades of grey in between be nice shades of grey in between.

Now if only the same philosophy could be applied to every area of the game.

Not 'bad' as such. Just irritating. Incarnate abilities have made the challenge of level 50 TFs trivial. Where something used to be a challenge to even level 50s, a team of Incarnates can just waltz through it now.

And sure, you can just jack the difficulty up but not many teams I've been on want to do that. They'd rather just whizz through, get their shards and be done. And that's kind of a pity.

I'd welcome either seeing all Incarnate abilities locked out of regular content (although Geko does counter this very well above) or, far better, an Incarnate setting with appropriate difficulty challenges for suitable Incarnate rewards.

What's the best End Game they could come up with? And would that answer really be end game?
I've always maintained that the design of i10 was excellent. It introduced a new currency, a new zone, story arcs, a repeatable contact, a TF and a raid. And the currency dropped at a rate consistent with those methods. For those people who wanted the goods now, they could run the Mothership raid until they had everything. But there were other options with a slower drop rate for other players. In short, there was something for everyone and various methods to get the loot (even if it was just costume pieces).

I have no problem with it being hard. It should be hard, it's endgame content. But it should have options. As to whether it counts as endgame, that's harder to answer. The raids, regardless of how much I dislike the focus on them, are not on a par with other MMOs so it'd be hard to compare. And yes, although I know solo/small team content is coming, it just surprises me that they'd devote their time to trials at first.

Well, I can be patient. Mostly.
  20. These arguments have been had before but for what it's worth, I agree with the OP. I find the trials a casual distraction but they leave me with a distinct 'that's it?' feeling at the end. For a game that's been awaiting an endgame for many years, I can't help but feel underwhelmed that our version of endgame amounts to a boss fight from the end of a TF.

Cementing that feeling is the locking of non-Incarnate emotes, costume pieces and auras behind the trials along with the inf fee on converting shards should you dare to not run trials. That kind of action just puts me off them even more.

I've always been a lousy farmer. It's dull and not much fun to me. So introducing an endgame that is basically Dev endorsed farming was always the worst possible option as far as I'm concerned. But then the introduction of AE proved that a lot of players are happy to run the same map over and over again for fat loot. So it looks like Paragon are simply developing content for those types of players. And that's a bit of a shame really.

'If you don't like them, don't do them' is a common argument I hear and fair enough, I won't. If these powers are so vital to running trials then I have no need for them. On one condition: that no Incarnate powers work outside of the trials. Because the use of those powers in high level content has now made level 50 TFs laughable. If they're necessary in order to stand up to the difficulty of trials, then lock them out of regular level 50 content as they're not needed.

But mostly, I feel disappointment. For a game that has been incredibly inclusive to all kinds of playstyles, to devote the endgame to nothing but raids is a big let down in my opinion. Although solo/small team content might be coming, it appears to be an afterthought at best. Which concerns me as it makes me question whether Paragon Studios really know their audience that well. But for now, when I look at the endgame as it stands, I just have to ask, "Is this really the best you could come up with?"

    Here's hoping for future improvements.

I for one am glad the Dev team are building them again. I just hope for a chance to have an epic fight on the top of it. Preferably with an Elder God. Hamidon available? Oooh! He could have a human avatar too: the Praetorian Terra!

Sorry, got carried away there. I knew something awesome was coming when we checked the fridge the other day:

I don't remember buying an apocalypse...

Thanks for taking the time to write up and post this.

All of this is definitely making me excited for i21.

This. I normally hate Stalkers but I absolutely love my Kin/Nin. Even on teams, being able to sneak into the next spawn and hit Burst, providing lovely damage and knockdown mitigation is brilliant. The damage is nice and there's so many tricks to pull, it's turned around my opinion of the AT.

Plus, for once, Stalkers don't lose their AoE, only a rather pitiful knockback attack.
  23. I quite like the artwork. Agreed BABs looks a little too light but otherwise it looks awesome. The way I read it is that if these long serving heroes, veterans of the Rikti War, Brass Monday and others are stunned and shocked at the level of destruction being wreaked on their city, it's got to be bad. And that just makes me feel like it's time for some dashing heroics.*

The Coming Storm isn't just some tinpot dictator and his army of robots built by a moron, it's the potential destruction of the Earth itself. And if a shower of alien meteorites decimated my neighbourhood, I'd be pretty devestated too. Nice work DN.

I do frequently. Most plots need some form of action at some point and being able to customise your own heroes/villains, write their dialogue and fight them in game is ace.

Hell yes. My head spins to think that this was the game that consolidated all inf into one currency and removed base salvage because it was 'too confusing' and yet has introduced a salvage system for Incarnates that needs a spreadsheet to work out.

The Devs really need to keep to the KISS principle on this one.
