Ha, this is the one I thought of when I saw this thread.

And yes, the new DA missions are fairly riddled with typos and grammatical errors. But the whole game is, so *shrug*.
  2. This is no big red ball.

The big red ball is a mystical and wondrous object.

The flying disc is just a Frisbee with the trademark removed.

All hail the big red ball.
  3. 23.6% better. I asked a scientist.

Is Aurora the next to die?
Did Jack Emmert create the character? If so, then probably!
  5. With War Witch now the producer on the game, the next SSA should feature the death of Positron, to further demonstrate how "City of Heroes has grown up and left the nest from which it was born".
  6. Great-looking set so far and the preview is appreciated!

I will throw in with the 'rocket is too big' camp. The single rocket could probably be a bit smaller and sit a little lower on the back (though shrinking it may solve that issue). The second rocket pack is maybe a touch too wide but otherwise fine.

Overall, though, you've done a great job nailing the retro sci-fi look.
  7. Account-bound would definitely be better.

I sympathize with you, Lycantropus. The item descriptions in e-mail (and the market) are woefully inadequate. I should not have to go to a forum, wiki or other outside source just to find out what an item does and what restrictions may be on it. It's a major interface failure.
  8. The Signature Story Arcs (heroside, at least, I have not tried the villain ones yet) seem aimed at satisfying the writers more than the players.

I like the idea of regular, unique arcs but maybe in the future they can focus it on the deeds and actions of the player characters rather than the game's. It almost felt like my character was simply an observer in SSA #6. "Bye, Psyche, nice knowin' ya!"

Also, the correct title of this SSA should have been WHO WON'T DIE?
  9. Just putting in that I am also opposed to the arbitrary time limitation on this (and other) items placed on the market and won't be buying.

Your fake scarcity ain't working with me!
  10. I voted for A but there are parts from all three that I like. Mooshing together bits of A and C would work well.

My second choice would be Option D.

Options A and C are battling it out for last place, in my opinion.
You have read my mind. Agreed with your take right down the line. B got my vote, with D being a close #2. I like the idea of making B's fin optional. C seems oddly small and A is too bland to be retro.

Same for me, with C and E being tied for #2.

My main criteria was how well the gun matches the vibe of 'retro Sci-Fi'. D is a bit plain, B doesn't look retro to me and the double barrel of F would look odd, since it wouldn't match up with the single projectiles guns in the game use (including the most appropriate, beam rifle).

A, C and E all look suitably retro and the clean lines and wacky rings of A pushed it over the top for me.

You can still post to this subforum (and several others) even if you aren't subscribed to the game.

    Hey Y'all

Welcome back, AC! I remember the avatar and sassy attitude.

I had left the game for awhile myself but started playing again recently in that limbo between free and VIP (it's not so bad when you have over 6.5 years of vet status). Ironically, I ended up subscribing again due to the dire heroside content in the mid-teens -- I wanted to try the signature story arcs and you can only get them by paying or subbing and subbing lets me unlock all of my dusty old characters and marvel over things like how I double-slotted brawl. On a defender.

And what are these proposed stalker changes? Other than links to Rickrolls, apparently. :P
  15. I think there's a very good chance CoH may go free-to-play. I am ambivalent to the idea. I don't think it would make me drop my sub but I also don't think I'd be inclined to buy any of the inevitable extras that might be offered with a F2P model.

    Halloween Mobs

I duoed with a friend today doing some ToTing. We had the following combos, all heroside today:

    22 fire/earth dominator
    22 kinetic melee/electric brute

Very tough fights, a few visits to the hospital. The only time it got 'easy' was when the group that spawned was all minions (which wasn't often).

    34 energy/ninjitsu stalker
    34 claws/ninjitsu stalker

Also surprisingly tough. The spawns can see through hide, making a stalker's bread and butter opening move tricky to pull off. The large number of DoT attacks meant is was nearly impossible to placate/AS mid-fight.

    50 storm/energy defender
    50 fiery aura/super strength tanker

This was the only combo where the fights were easy.

Overall I'm kind of disappointed. I don't mind a challenge but the ToT spawns are basically designed to be tough *and* annoying and it makes the fights tedious and frustrating.

The highlight was getting the Paragon Protector costume and having my character's lizard tail still show up while wearing the costume. It looked hilariously wrong.
  17. Regarding what the monthly fee for the game covers, NCsoft has this in their Support Knowledge Base:

    Question
Why should I have to pay a monthly fee?

    Answer
The subscription fees you pay for City of Heroes, City of Villains, Lineage, Lineage II and Aion are used for the following:

    • A full-time development team that is constantly updating the game with new features to make gameplay more exciting
    • The availability, maintenance and up-keep of multiple servers for players to choose from, and the addition of new servers as needed
    • An expanded support team to address any in-game, technical, or billing and account questions or issues in an expedient manner
    • A full-time Quality Assurance Team to test bug fixes and new features
    • A network team to minimize downtime caused by any connectivity or server issues that occur

Guild Wars does not require a subscription fee. The game was built from the ground up with that factor in mind. The Guild Wars model, offering a new chapter in the Guild Wars saga every six to nine months, will sustain the game and enable us to support the free online play.
  18. Oops, I forgot to wish Chris Bruce well. I'll fix that here.

He did terrific work for CoH and as mentioned earlier, was the champion behind power customization, a huge undertaking. If he has moved on, for whatever reason, here's to his continued success wherever he ends up.

The other team has put out major expansions while still providing regular feedback and communication to the playerbase. I'm not saying they're better, I'm just saying they are providing more communication.

I also don't expect OCR to communicate with the playerbase during their leisure time, so I'm not sure what that has to do with anything.

As I mentioned earlier, GR neeed a lot of zone work, because it was giving us 4-6 new zones - but as we won't be getting 4-6 new zones in the upcoming Issues, the people who worked on the GR zones aren't all needed now - and the same with all the people who worked on Ultra Mode - now that it's done and added to the game, not all of them are needed anymore either.
The upcoming Issues are not GR-sized, so there's no need for a GR-sized team to work on them.
While this is accurate (except in the case of companies that put out regular paid expansions), Back Alley Brawler was not part of the Going Rogue hires. He had been with the company since around the time Issue 7 launched.

This isn't so much the case anymore.

I'm not complaining about the level of interaction here (it could be higher, but I am largely indifferent), but I can think of at least one other MMO with more interaction between the players and the community reps/devs (as an example, it's had 85 dev posts since October 1st, most of them concerning feedback on changes on their test server).

It's possible they may have updated policies once the game was fully owned by NCsoft. Lighthouse was pretty hands-on after the switch, though, as was Ex Libris, so if there was a change I suspect it happened after they left.

OCR did not change companies, it has always been handled by NCsoft employees (starting with CuppaJo and onward).
