Yeah, I know a lot of it was to prevent farming certain mob types but I still hate being punished for it.
Oh no, I very much blame the devs for that. They tell me it's the farmers fault? I call Bee-Ess! The farmers ain't the ones coding these things. Where's the reward for that risk, hmm?

Also, I don't like it when someone punishes me for something someone else did. Totally not fair. Heck, the devs should punish themselves for that!

Oh, it's worse than that! Those old CRTs actually emitted X-Rays. The tube's glass actually contained with a certain amount of lead in order to retard how much of that actually leaked out. And unlike radio waves, x-rays are ionizing radiation, which meant it could actually do some harm.

According to Wikipedia: "CRTs can emit a small amount of X-ray radiation as a result of the electron beam's bombardment of the shadow mask/aperture grille and phosphors. The amount of radiation escaping the front of the monitor is widely considered unharmful. The Food and Drug Administration regulations in 21 C.F.R. 1020.10 are used to strictly limit, for instance, television receivers to 0.5 milliroentgens per hour (mR/h) (0.13 µC/(kg·h) or 36 pA/kg) at a distance of 5 cm (2 in) from any external surface; since 2007, most CRTs have emissions that fall well below this limit."

    And now you know!!

I'm afraid that if you're that scared of UHF signals doing something to your brain, then you'll be terrified to know that those radio waves are being used just about everywhere else as well. Simply refusing to use a cell phone won't help you one bit. If you're serious about not being touched by radio waves between 300 MHz and 3 GHz, you'll have to move out into some extremely remote location (or better yet, deep into an underground cave) and encase yourself in a Faraday cage (with very thick walls of metal). You must also bring no device with you that generates an EM field of its own (translation: nothing electronic). So, no electric lights; you'll have to make do with gas lamps. So make sure to bring plenty of kerosene! You'll probably want an ample supply of oxygen as well.

Now there's an idea. I should be paying my friends to do all the farming and markeering for me! It could be their job. I'd pay them by the hour and give them all new computers on which to play and make sure their game accounts (which I'd also pay for) have all the add-ons and expansions. All they have to do is give me most of the inf they have earned, on a regular basis.

I'll remember that the next time I win the lottery.

Nope, not attacking! Simply disagreeing with you on what the game is about (and helpfully providing personal examples).

In regard to the SG merit idea:
The thought had also crossed my mind that it might contribute more to "merit saturation" within the game.
I do like the basis of the idea... of using an existing game feature and applying it to bases.
    I'd like to hear more.
So far, I like most the idea that Shadestorm originally presented. So I don't yet see a need to modify it at all.

Just don't start a flamewar over it, and I'm sure you can agree to disagree.

Any thoughts on anything else you've read in the thread, or problems with that system?
Yeah. I don't get why we'd need SG merits, as they just seem to be "yet another currency". And I've had some ideas regarding making SGs more interesting in general. I think maybe I'll bring them up in a post here later on.
  15. Since you brought this up, I figured I'd respond to this post directly!

And what's wrong with those games? Next to City of Heroes, the game I play the most is Sim City 4; and I belong to both the SimTropolis and SC4Devotion communities. We already have a building mini-game with the base editor (and we've seen that there are people who love playing with it; why else are there people clamoring for more decorative base items?) So what's wrong with having a little MMORTS in your MMORPG? Personally, I think making such arbitrary lines in the sand is a bad thing. As long as it's optional then it shouldn't in any way detract from the main game.

I would rather see Supergroup/Base content be focused around the Group and teaming.
What about those players who have solo-SGs who only have their alts in it? What about SGs filled with mostly idle characters because most of your friends have stopped playing, but you still enjoy playing with and tweaking the base and using it yourself?

I think the re-vamped CoP was a step in the right direction. It requires a small group from an SG to host the event, but it is also open enough to allow our solo coalies or friends from other (smaller) SG's to join and earn badgies.
The CoP needs a lot of work. The reward not worth the risk involved. They should either scale down the risk or scale up the reward. It's pretty clear to me that the risk the CoP presents to the player is still engineered toward the original reward (an Item of Power).

I'm sorry, exactly where in this entire proposal is it even implied that anyone would be forced to participate in it? I'm certain it would be a trivial thing to have it so that anyone who didn't want to bother with it wouldn't have to. It'd only be for people who'd want to be able to do things like earn prestige at a slow rate while they were offline.

So please give me a real reason why you're against adding content to the game, instead of "I don't like it!" If we're gonna go that way, we should be asking the devs to remove all elements of PvP in this game. Or the markets. Or the booster packs. There are plenty of people who'd whined about all of those things.

SG1 - Doesn't want to bother defending during the raid window every day.

This SG places enough rooms to support ten hirelings, and wires up a secure plot with plenty of firepower. All of this is purchased with player gained prestige, while leaving the base operations level at zero. When they're happy with their setup, they go ahead and set ops to 1. Every day during their window, the base may be raided, but it doesn't matter if they're around or not because they've prepared the base and its defenses to handle light raids that come with such a low operations level. They might be on one day, get the raid sirens, and laugh because they know that the handful of freakshow raiding their base are being instantly and mercilessly cut down by their ten tons of autocannons and highly trained base defense NPCs. As time goes on, this SG gains rewards at a slower rate, but their gains are virtually hands free, slowly upgrading the defenses and personnel and gradually increasing ops levels to match.

SG2 - Likes defending, prefers to spend time in the base.

This SG places a single quarters room, enough to house two hirelings, and no defenses. They go ahead and set ops to 1. This base has not been prepared to adequately deal with threats, and thus they'll need to be around to defend it each day. SG2 didn't require nearly as much time farming prestige for setting up defenses because they've decided they'd rather get the ops rewards now and defend it themselves than wait to wire up ten tons of technology. As time goes on, this SG ratchets up ops as soon as they have enough NPCs to do it, and is faced with more difficult raids because of it. They're getting rewards at an increased rate because rather than being careful, they're relying on the players in the SG to handle the base defenses.

SG3 - Likes defending, but only wants to do it on weekends when people are sure to be around.

This SG sets up like SG2, but sets ops to zero during the week. Each friday, the guy in charge increases the ops level, and for the next two days the players defend the base like SG2 does all week. Sunday night, he sets ops back to zero so they don't have to worry about raids during the week.

The point here is that, like the AE or market, the SG chooses its own level of involvement. It can choose to use the system without ever showing up to defend its own base, or it can choose to use the system and defend every time there's a raid, or anywhere in between. The level of reward is directly proportional to the level of risk. The SG that chooses to risk more is rewarded more.

    You get it?

You're treating raids like a mission. In the proposed system they're not a mission. You don't get rewarded for defending the base. You get rewarded for having the base do things for you. The tradeoff is that the more stuff the base does for you, the harder it is to defend. YOU choose how much stuff you want the base to do for you, and thus YOU determine if 2000 prestige a day without ever having to worry about being around for raids is a better deal than 20000 prestige a day with the tradeoff that you might have to actually get involved with the raids.
I've stopped reading this thread right here. You've totally sold me on this idea. I wish to sign the petition to have it implemented!

This would totally bring in a new element to the game. It's a mini-game for Super Groups, played like Tropico, Evil Genius or Dungeon Keeper.

You sir, are a genius. ++rep!

You saw that 2,000,000,000 inf bid for a hydraulic piston? That was me!
  20. You know what, maybe it's wrong to be complaining about this. Maybe this feature of the AI should be dialed to 11! That's right, instead of fighting you, all foes should immediately run away!

Inside missions, they'd all run for the exit. Imagine running around going 'boo!' in local and watching all the bad guys immediately flee for the mission entrance in a panic. You complete the mission if you can get them all out the door!
  21. You geeks are gonna see that opening scene in "A New Hope" in 3D on a huge screen and Surround Sound, with the Star Destroyer chasing down Leia's ship over Tatooine, and you're all gonna be seven years old again.

I guarantee it. George knows his audience.
  22. I like the idea of "Heroes for hire". That way, you could have Fusionette with you on each and every mission! How would that be for you? When she dies, she 'teleports to the hospital' and will spawn next to you when you move to another zone (or exit a mission). You can have a whole roster of NPC heroes who've signed up for this program to help other heroes.

For the red side uh... I have no idea what you would call the program. But it would be the same thing. I kind of think Flameaux would sign up for something like this, seeing how inept she is.

In fact, I think that could be the running gag for this whole feature; that these heroes and villians are so inept that they're constantly getting themselves into trouble! So in desperation, they've signed up to be perpetual lackeys for others. They could be constantly making NPC chatter about it.

But what happens if you summon Fusionette and someone else has already summoned her? Or what if you're a mixed heroes and villains team? Would Fusionette have a problem being on the same team as Flambeaux?
  23. The tier 7 power should be 'send in the clones' which sends in an army of clones that look exactly like you and all have your name.

If for some reason you're able to cast the power again when any of these clones are still out, the power will fail and you'll get the error message: "Don't bother, they're here."

Oh wait, I had this idea for a Coulromancy MM set! Nevermind.

    Costumes!

So from now on, any new NPC costumes that will be made will have in mind compatability with player costumes? I kind of guessed this was the direction things were going based on newer groups like the Praetorian Clockwork.
  25. I'm guessing that the habitable region of this planet will be called "The Twilight Zone"?
