I think it's pretty obvious that to defeat Trapdoor you need... more DoTs...

Quote:There was one rampant killstealer in PI that I one-starred several months ago because he was following me around while I was street sweeping. Flash forward to two weeks ago when the exact same thing happened, and as I was clicking on the guy to make a note about what he was doing, it turned out to be that exact same player, 'cause I'd already left a note and 1-star. It was a different character, though. Not really a problem in CoX, ALTHOUGH i have seen it happen although it normally tends to be just a "1 spawn" issue. Rarely have i seen serial killstealers in CoX (unlike other MMO's)
I'm starting to imagine that this guy kill-stealed all of his characters up to 50, which is kind of a silly thought that made me laugh. -

Quote:I've been doing all of the above and I managed to get about a thousand candy canes in the space of about two days. Dang. There are 4 ways to generate candy canes
1) defeat winter mobs
2) complete the Lord on Winter instance
3) Complete a Baby New Year/Lady winter misson
4) click presents
Additionally you can buy them from the market
There are no short cuts. You have to do some combination of those 4 to earn the canes -
My robots/traps MM had no problem bringing Trapdoor down. It was no contest.
My WP/DB tank did have a problem, though. That fight was a perpetual stalemate. At first I thought maybe I could defeat his clones, but that was pretty useless. So I exited the mission and got myself a Shivan and a Snow Beast temp power (and crafted the Backup Radio power just for sake of overkill), and then went back in. That was more than enough to turn the tide in my favor. -
Quote:I charged in with my bots/traps MM, and I won!Go read the beta posts about this mission. Charging into the last room with Honoree is not the best strategy to use. Even some of my melee characters can't just charge in and expect to live through it.
EDIT: And I figured out how to deal with the dropping swords of doom on the Apex TF, zipping out of the way while constantly re-summoning my robots and sending them to attack Battle Maiden.
It must've been mah mad Grill Skillz! -

Quote:It is an Internet Axiom that all unmoderated threads, if they go on long enough, will eventually degenerate into flamewars that often have little to nothing to do with the original topic.* And, as can be evidenced here, this still has a tendency to happen in a moderated environment! It's an internet forum. Nothing specific to this one. What is fairly rare about this one is that it remained civil.
The reason this happens is that there will be invariably someone who chimes in to nitpick about some inconsequential detail that somehow bothers them, and so instead of say, sending a private message to the original poster (or another replier) or even start a new thread, they will endeavor to derail the current thread to draw attention away from the intended topic. That's always a bit rude if I say so myself!
And no, I've never done it! Noooo... >.>
*(Unless the original topic itself was a controversial one. But even there, you will still have several smaller and unrelated flamewars beneath the main big flamewar! This is making me nostalgic for the Usenet; the modern alternatives just aren't the same!) -
Quote:People have been able to kill other people by rationalizing that, by virtue of those other people not being exactly like them, are therefore not human and so it is OK to kill them.I would have no problem pulling the plug on AI. I don't care if it can learn, think for itself, or feel emotions. It is nothing more than a machine and I would always treat it as such.
Machines are not people and therefore don't get the same considerations or rights as people.
I suppose what you just said is an even more literal version of that same callous disregard for life that is not the same as yours. You're basically saying that you're OK with murdering anything that isn't like you, and that scares the hell out of me. I'm curious if you'd feel the same cold detachment for the lives of alien lifeforms? -
There used to be a poster here on this forum whose user picture referenced that ancient LJ post. I think his sig also had a direct link to it, but I don't remember too well now.

Reading this thread is only slightly less fun than reading an issue of Knights of the Dinner Table.
Watching other nerds rage against each other is fun, from a distance. -
I've had problems with this game due to:
Some bad RAM
A crashed hard drive
A faulty PSU
A PSU being too weak
A game controller being plugged in, with books resting on it so one of its buttons was constantly being pushed down.
Well, that is, with most of those problems, I didn't even notice them until they happened while I was playing. LOL
And my system is, by now, pretty ancient:
Motherboard: Gigabyte 7vt600-rz
CPU: Athlon XP 3200+
RAM: Corsair TwinX 2048-3200PRO (2 gigabytes)
Video: BFG Tech GeForce 7800GS 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card
Audio: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro 7.1
PSU: Rosewill RP550-2 550W
OS: Windows XP Home sp3
Hard drives:
. Seagate ST380215A (80GB)
. Seagate ST3500630A (500GB)
. Seagate ST3200820A (200GB)
This system used to run the game quite smoothly. Nowadays, it tends to choke. -
Quote:Darn, you saw right through our conspiracy. You've made an enemy of the cabal, this day!All sorts of people have been having similar issues (myself included) for weeks now, and I keep hearing the same 'non-answers' ("it must be your PC", or "it's spyware/malware," or "you need new drivers", _insert typical PC hardware snob quote here_, etc.
There is something wrong going on around here over the last few weeks and - its beyond CohHelper and Hijackthis - all that does is give people 'scapegoat ammo' to throw excuses at the person trying to deal with the issue. Much like yall's "collective consensus" here = that this guy's problem is an weak/insufficient PSU...
Seriously, get over yourself. I was just trying to help. Remind me never to try and help you in particular, in the future, should the situation ever arise. You're the reason for the existence of the phrase "No good deed goes unpunished."
To the OP: I still think it's worth looking into checking out the PSU. Despite what certain people wearing tin foil hats might say about it, years of personal (and professional, ahem) experience have led me to believe it might be a potential culprit. -

Quote:FireFox -- Safer than IE in my opinion.I'm hoping maybe it will close what ever security hole I have now. My internet explorer is completely borked (constant redirects and Pop-up ad's).
AdBlock Plus -- An addon for FireFox to block ads, may help a little against malware by blocking the scripts in certain ads.
MalWareBytes -- Use as a supplement to your anti-virus software. Use it to scan your entire system to search for and remove malware from it.
(I'm not suggesting NoScript, because it's a complex and powerful tool and thus, not for the inexperienced or faint of heart!) -
Quote:Wow. I really don't think I have that amount of time to devote to playing. Not unless I win the lottery or something so that I don't have to work, haha! One of my SG mates has tried to get to 9999 merits before. I think they were up around 2500 at one point.
I have one character that is at 1189. It's a long ways to 9999. If you were able to do 100 merits a day on the same character, then it's still over 3 months of solid work.
As for Vanguard merits... when I was getting the bomb and AV badges for the Mothership raid, I had over 1000 on Mouse Police. That's a very steep climb to 9999 too; you'd have to do regular MS raids for months I think.
What about Halloween salvage?
Collecting the max amount of Halloween salvage was easy, as you can only get a maximum of 99 each. I managed that a long time ago.
I used to have a hero on which I collected all blue side base salvage. I've slowly been moving that to my MasterMind, who is now a rogue, on whom I was also collecting base salvage on red side. That will also, finally, max me out on each type of component salvage (also 99 each). However, even though I'll be real real close to it, if I want 20 each of every type of base salvage, I'll have to burn yet more inf on the markets!
Oh well. It's only play money!
EDIT: This reminds me. Is there a max amount on how much prestige you can have marked as earned by any particular character? Beyond getting the Soulbound Allegiance, Apocalypse, Gladiator's Javelin and Ragnarok sets for this, my hoarding Robots/Traps MasterMind (before you ask, she already has the Luck of the Gambler Set), I don't know what else I can burn all that inf on. Oh wait, I guess I could get the Performance Shifter and Panacea procs for when Health and Stamina become inherent. Huzzah! -
Tin foil is not enough to adequately shield your brain from EM emissions. For one, it's way too thin. For another, it still leaves your brain exposed to emissions coming from underneath you. Indeed, the shape of the foil shield around your head might actually help to focus electromagnetic waves even more into your brain.

Quote:Well, yeah. What else is there? The annoyance of having to go to the hospital and back to the mission door?Anything to help the willfully obtuse.
Shut the door fast enough and the demons don't have enough opportunity to beat on you and bring it to that point, do they?
And also, framing the argument in terms of debt? Really? You just waived your right to be taken seriously in my book.
Later on,
Gate
You gamers sure do have low tolerances for differing opinions. You should stop trying to take things around here so seriously.
EDIT: Which is very ironic, because you said you weren't going to take me seriously anymore! Like... you did before? I've never seen you here before. So... yeah! -

You know why?
For the past several weeks, I've been collecting Brain Storm Idea salvage via the market. Not to use, just to have. I wanted 9999 of them. Just like I collected 9999 Mission Architect Tickets, and how I am still collecting Candy Canes from the market, so I can have 9999 of them. Why, yes I do in fact want the whole sets of all types of salvage! Except invention salvage, feh!
(And don't ask me just how I'm gonna manage get 9999 Reward Merits or 9999 Vanguard Merits... x.x)
My MasterMind went from 1.9 billion to 1.6 billion inf by my just snatching up Brain Storm Ideas. As I have a very limited amount of time to even be on this game nowadays, I was pretty sure it might take me a while to get that inf back.
Yesterday, I managed to squeeze in a bit time to run tip missions on my MasterMind. On one of those missions, I got a purple drop; from the Absolute Amazement set (I forgot which one).
I went to the market and bought up the salvage needed to craft it. Then I put the IO up on the market. I put it up for something like 150,000,000. Five minutes later, it sold for 200,000,000.
And now my MM is at 1.85 billion inf (Before you say that 1.6 + 0.2 = 1.8 and not 1.85, I must note that this wasn't the only recipe I crafted and sold, just the only purple recipe!).

Quote:You mean it all comes down to semantics? No flippers buy low and sell at normal prices.
Manipulators buy low and list higher than normal prices.
One person's flipping is another person's manipulating? Go figure.
*(You know why? Because in my niches, I set the "normal" price! Muahaha...)* -
Quote:Personally, I'd say he ought to get something like this for a replacement PSU:I weas thinking exactly the same thing Coyote. The power supply is overheating trying to feed the video card. Setting it lower only buys you a little time. You need a new power supply (PSU).
Setting the card lower means it works less and so draws less power.

Quote:I was not aware that, if you should destroy that portal before you defeat the demons, and the demons then defeat you, that you would get no debt. The reward for that risk is simply "elsewhere." To cite one example, you get that big gob of XP for Oranbega portals, which encourages slamming them down asap, and that XP makes up for the Behemoths not being worth anything.
Sounds fair to me...
Good for you to clear that up!
