Lucky with CoH ?

Ok so this is the tech forum, if you want to put it in general, go ahead, im not sure.

Most every day I come in here and see people having issues with CoH on this or that, new patch or new issue brings constant crashing and pain.

However, since I've started playing this, Issue 6, well.. i've never had an issue! I've done some pretty wonky things with this too. The only time i started raising an alarm bell i found out it was CoH overheating my CPU, and to find that, i had to play crysis on veteran for about an hour to mimic the problem! So CoH is still a bugger of a test for a system.

So since I have started playing I've never had an issue. The operating systems i've used have been Xp Vista (laptop) and win 7 U x64. I've always used nVidia GFX cards and oddly enough, nVidia chipset Motherboards. I've run CoH on multiple PC's, laptop, my Win mobile Dell axim via VNC and a NETBOOK (it was rough in praetoria though xD ).

The only 2 oddities have been my mobile devices. The netbook used intel atom N450 with intel GMA 3150 and the laptop, which has an ati GFX chip. However, neither of these had the power to turn on some of the flashy graphics settings to really test them out

So, has anyone else had such luck? I know I like to keep nicely clean PC's but I can't be the only one
Also, what hardware have you had luck with ?

I can't recall ever having a major issue although I have experienced quite a few bugs like invisible enemies back a few years ago (it happened if you entered a mission and hit a lag spike while loading, to the best of my knowledge that bug was eradicated long ago).

I've also on rare occasions had a crash to desktop; it was always an isolated incident and didn't reoccur when I logged back in. I've had a couple of instances of component failure; the last was shortly before Ultra Mode launched and my 8800GTX decided to pack in. Good news in that I replaced it with a UM capable card, bad news in that I'd wanted to get another year out of the old one.

All in all though I can't think of any real problems I've had with the game running. Bugs in plenty of course but that's inescapable. I have no doubt that CoH is incredibly poorly optimized in it's graphics; it requires more horsepower for less effect than any other game I've played... it's a great component stress test.

The only major issues I have had were when video cards failed or my driver became corrupted...I also discovered that a connector wire from the PSU to the card was faulty. Minor issues from time to time, but in 6 years, the game has run great. All this on an older pc:
HP Pavillion
Nvidia 7900 GS agp
2 gigs memory
WinXP sp3
I too, amd amazed at the people with the newest gaming puters that seem to have so many problems...and here I am with my old Tower of Power.

Another smug beggar here

No major issues for me either. Some mapservers, which after doing a tracert came down to a bad node between me and the servers in Germany (I'm a EU player). Since the server move to NA these seem to have stopped.

I use a self built PC
CPU Q6600
Graphics GTX275
Memory 2 gigs
XPpro SP3
Asus Motherboard

My wife also has no problems

Another self build
CPU AMD Phenom2 quad core
Grapics GTX260 (factory overclock)
Memory 2 gigs
XPpro sp3
Asus Motherboard

We are connected on 1Gb broadband.

I've never had a problem related to my system. As an example of something NOT related to my system: the fun and games with Sharkhead locking up.

I started on a Pentium 4 with 1GB of RAM and integrated video on Win XP Pro. After playing a month, I got a Radeon 9600XT.

Then I used a Core2 Duo with 2GB RAM and an NVidia 7950GT and Win XP Pro.

Now I have a Core i7 870 with 8GB RAM and a Radeon 5850 with Win 7 Pro. (And the system has a 128GB SATA3 solid state drive so it flies.)

I built all of them.

P.S. Seeing this line "We are connected on 1Gb broadband." from mereman, I'll add that I'm on a Verizon DSL connection that absolutely sucks ###.

I have to add that I can upgrade to a faster speed but I would lose 50% of my data transfer allowance, yes I do use a lot, the last few months on my PC I've used over 60Gigs a month You have to add in my wife's PC use and any other PC I put on my connection

The ISP I'm with Zen.co.uk are great in 8 years with them I've had no connection for one day and one week slow connection.

But as I'm about to be out of work I may have to change to a cheaper option.

I've had problems with this game due to:

Some bad RAM
A crashed hard drive
A faulty PSU
A PSU being too weak
A game controller being plugged in, with books resting on it so one of its buttons was constantly being pushed down.

Well, that is, with most of those problems, I didn't even notice them until they happened while I was playing. LOL

And my system is, by now, pretty ancient:

Motherboard: Gigabyte 7vt600-rz
CPU: Athlon XP 3200+
RAM: Corsair TwinX 2048-3200PRO (2 gigabytes)
Video: BFG Tech GeForce 7800GS 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card
Audio: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty Pro 7.1
PSU: Rosewill RP550-2 550W
OS: Windows XP Home sp3
Hard drives:
. Seagate ST380215A (80GB)
. Seagate ST3500630A (500GB)
. Seagate ST3200820A (200GB)

This system used to run the game quite smoothly. Nowadays, it tends to choke.

Nice responses guys!

Of course sometimes its the game or the servers that mess up. I do like to browse this part of the forums though cause i used to work IT and any unique information I might have that will help someone, im happy to share
