    Not Goodbye

Forgot the one where, on very rare occasions, villain players would load into a Safeguard Mission at the same time that heroes would load in. Made for some fun, and unexpected, PVP.

    *Edit* FPARN

    Not Goodbye

Not a bug, but something that didn't make it out of beta for obvious reasons:

Original Ninja Run icon, mirrored and flipped. Loved when Posi saw this and was like, "Umm. no. This will be changed."
  3. Don't see it happening. Tabula Rasa still had staff up till the servers went down, albeit limited. There is no staff at Paragon anymore.

The only reason we've had anything in the past few days is because the Dev's and community people have logged in and did things for us at their own expense.

    Not Goodbye

I've been using that one for years too. And I did report it and nothing ever came of it. I decided it was "working as intended" :P
  5. I've sent a Twitter message to him, but still... the MOST IMPORTANT person that needs to hear our plea is Stan Lee. I'm serious. He's got his own production studios and mentioned in an interview that online superheroes was something that would become the new standard.

We need Stan Lee to back us!
  6. I've just fired off 10 emails to some Rhode Island news sources with the subject of "Millions of Rhode Island residents to become homeless on Nov. 30."

At first it started with WPRI.com, as they were a local news station that reported on CoH back in 2004, as a family game based in Rhode Island. But I decided to keep sending the emails out in the hope that at least one source runs with the story.

If you feel up to it, google some Rhode Island News sources and send in an email of your own. Publicity will help especially if NCsoft is seen in a bad light.

    Not Goodbye

Many of the people that made things like hero MM's or Villain controllers did so by cheating/hacking. (Some were legit though, from what I was told.)

I feel a little bad about it, because it got someone banned, but I befriended of the these hackers and reported them after they showed me how they used a memory editor. What they did was start to create a villain-only AT.

When they got to a certain point, they would use the memory editor to "freeze" bits of data from being re-written. They would then use the frozen bits, exit the villain AT creation then start up the Hero character creator. This would cause the AT/Powers/etc data to stay set to the villain info they created earlier. They would then get through the character creation and enter Atlas/Outbreak with a villain AT set to the hero data.

Thankfully the devs quickly added some safeguards to prevent that from happening again.

Oh, I still regularly get behind the walls in Cimerora... >.> Sadly they removed all of the Cimerorans from behind the walls

    Not Goodbye

    Let's see.. favorite bugs...

1.) being able to teleport under the map in Posi Pt. 1, and fighting the non-aggroed AV's used in the cutscenes for MAD XP.

2.) Using the "Welcome to the Ouroboros" flashback to easily get from level 25-50 in mere hours do to an error that awarded Mission Complete XP... 8 times to one alt (Bug Hunter for that)

3.) Getting under the map in The Abyss and being able to attack, and kill, Hami without him aggroing on you.

4.) Getting under the same Abyss map during the LGTF to help my team get one of the first MoLGTF badges on Virtue.

5.) Grabbing Dev access on beta by quickly switching servers in rapid succession (during the server transfer beta testing.)

6.) Being able to Coalition a hero and villain groups and then running CoPvP (Cathedral of Pain vs Player) where teamed heroes and villains in the CoP could attack and kill each other.

7.) Hero/Villain base storage, here is what I sent in to ExLibris:

    Quote:
I tried to /bug this but was too long and didn't fit in the petition window. This is long but gives explicit instructions on how to duplicate a few major exploits.

This is an influence/infamy as well as zone exploit bug. This is also a 3 exploit in 1 kind of thing.

#1 - The bug that was fixed that dis-allowed heroes into villain bases, and vice versa, is still around except it affects 2 or more instances of the Rikti War Zone.

Now, a hero and villain, both in Rikti War Zone can not enter their teammates base. But if either a hero or villain is in instance #2 (or more) of the War Zone and their teammate is in instance #1, they can enter their base. Instead of getting booted out of the base like you would if only one instance of the RWZ is open, you will stay inside but get a message saying to pick your zone to exit to. If you do not choose it, you will stay in the other person base. Now, if that isn't bad enough, here comes exploit #2.

#2 - A hero inside a villains base (or vice versa) CAN drop inspirations, enhancements, or base salvage INTO their appropriate storage containers. This means a hero can drop HeroSide ONLY items into the VillainSide storage where then the villain can sell the item on the Black Market for millions of infamy since the item would be Extremely Rare villainside.

I was able to do this (minus selling the item) by dropping a Crystal Titan Enhancement from my hero into a villain storage bin. Since that enhancement is only available through a Hero Strike Force, this item (which villains are already bidding on) will sell for almost anything that it is listed at.

This series of exploits can ultimately cause an unlimited amount of infamy/influence for the seller of the items.

But, then there is a 3rd exploit that revolves around the base entering one.

#3 - If a hero enters a villain base and 2 or more instances of the War Zone are open, the hero stays inside. BUT... if the hero tries to zone into a villain area, through a Zone Transporter, he will get booted into Atlas Park, EXCEPT... if there are 2 or more instances of Atlas Park open like when an invasion happens. The game does not know which Atlas Park to zone the hero into, so the hero stays in the villain zone until he chooses which instance or one of the instances of Atlas Park closes.

Another problem that ties into this is if a hero is in Pocket D, he can invite a villain in one of the War Zones to a team. This can also allow a hero into a villains base, and vice versa.

All three of these exploits worked for me and I know that others will find out how to do this. I have not leaked this info to anyone, fearing that it would cause a mass problem.

Hope that you can use this info and hope that it can be fixed ASAP.

    Thanks,
    Sean
And here is the reply I got back from Lighthouse the next day:

    Quote:
    Hi,

I wanted to write and let you know that we've had approval to award one of your characters the Bug Hunter Badge for your contributions in alerting us to issues and problems within the game.

If you could, please write me back with which character on what server you would like to receive the badge.

    Thanks and congratulations!

8.) Base Empowerment station allowing you to continuously buff when TF/SF settings disabled buffs.

9.) Using Flashback settings to exemp down before claiming Hami-O's and getting a level 1 Hami-O's, (as well as level 53 Hami-O's) and same with Crystal Titan Enhancements.

10.) Being able to use Mission Teleporter to team with someone in the tutorial and teleporting a 50 into it to rerun the content (which allowed you to repick patron's and acquire more than one patron badge.) Even though I did it, I reported it with screenies and had my toon restored to an earlier save. Though I know of at least one person that did the same and kept all of their badges instead of reporting it...

11.) A list of Flashback missions that combined with Double XP offered large reward and no risk:

    Quote:
Here is a list of missions that can be exploited due to an unintended bug in the Ouroboros Flasback system. By using these missions, a level 50 can invite a low level to the team and start Flashbacks (as long as the Flashback missions are in the same level range as the lowbie) that will award major XP bonuses to the low level player. Example: a level 50 can invite a level 30 to a Flashback and start a level 34 mission, thereby giving a major completion XP bonus to the level 30.

The Difficulties were set on Relentless and Invincible for all missions for maximum Mission Complete XP.

Below is a list of the little-to-no risk missions that start certain archs that can gain major XP on completion, in the shortest amount of time possible, and get a character from level 1-50 in just hours/days.

NOTE: All Kheldian Storyarchs are available to all levels via Ouroboros Flashback (meaning a level 50 Kheldian can invite a level 1 into a level 50 storyarch and the level 1 can enter the mission. This seems to be a bug with only the Kheldian Archtypes). I will list each Arch/Mission anyway as they still can be used as an extremely easy/no risk powerlevel.

I have started with Hero storyarchs/missions, then go into Villain storyarchs/mission, then end with a mission that is accessable to both Heroes and Villains that is exclusive inside of the Ouroboros zone.

    MISSIONS:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hero
level 1-15 Peacebringer Flashback: War and Peacebringers, First Mission: Level 50 and lowbie go to Galaxy City and enter their base portal. Level 50 accepts this mission. After the mission is set, the lowbie can exit through the base portal and click on Shadowstar to complete the mission. Both can quit the Flashback and restart it. This can be done over and over till level 15. Mission Complete only gives one Mission Complete XP reward. With zero difficulty involved, you can complete the first mission and restart 2-3 times a minute.

NOTE: The Peacebringer can invite ANY Archtype into the team for the Mission Complete XP.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Hero
level 20-24 Flashback: A Faultline in the Sands of Time, First Mission: Use invisibility and pop 4 Luck inspirations. Three desks to click on. Lucks keep enemies from interrupting the desk clicks. Mission takes less than a minute to complete. Awards two End Mission XP bonuses immediately after completion for the lowbie in that level range. If the high level toon that is PL'ing quits the Task Force before the lowbie leaves the mission, a third End Mission XP bonus is awarded to the lowbie. In essence, the lowbie will be awarded 3 Mission Complete bonuses in less than a minute. Repeat as many times as necessary to get the lowbie from level 20 to level 25.

NOTE: After completion of this mission, the character PL'ing the lowbie can accept the next mission that grants a Full Stealth Arachnos temp power. This power lasts for an hour and while activated, no enemies can detect you... at all. This power can be used to grant total stealth in all of the Flashback Missions. You can then quit the task force and retain the Full Stealth Arachnos costume. This can be done over and over for a permanent hour long full invisibility/no aggro temp power.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Hero
level 20-25 Kheldian Flashback: Shadow Science, First Mission: Level 50 and lowbie enter mission via Train (I started this Arch from the Talos Base Portal since the portal is so close to the Train station). Lowbie stands at door inside the mission while Level 50 finds Joshua. (I set up a keybind to spot Joshua from a distance.) Kill the two guards that have captured Joshua and the mission will automatically award TWO Mission Complete XP bonuses to the lowbie. After the Mission Complete comes on screen, the Level 50 must quit the Task Force. Keep the lowbie inside the mission. As soon as the level 50 is kicked from the mission, a THIRD XP bonus is awarded to the lowbie. The lowbie then quits the team and the Level 50 starts it again. This can be done from level 1-25 for the lowbie, where he will earn 3 XP bonuses per mission till level 25.

NOTE #1: The Kheldian can invite ANY Archtype into the team for the Mission Complete XP.
NOTE #2: The lowbie can be invited at level 1 since there is the bug with the Kheldian Storyarchs that will allow any level into their Flashback Missions.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Hero
level 25-29 Flashback: War of the Fir Bolg, first mission: Level 50 and lowbie enter the mission. Lowbie waits at door. Level 50 stealths to end and clicks on the glowie to complete the mission. Lowbie will be awarded TWO Mission Complete XP bonuses. Keep lowbie inside mission while Level 50 quits the Task Force. After the Level 50 is kicked from the mission, the lowbie will be awarded a THIRD Mission Complete XP bonus. Lowbie then quits the Task Force and can be reinvited by the Level 50 to start all over again. You can powerlevel a level 25 character to level 30 in a couple of hours with this mission.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Hero
level 30-34 Flashback: Defend The War Walls, only mission: Level 50 and lowbie start the mission. Lowbie waits at door. Level 50 completes the mission by doing each task assigned. Upon completion, lowbie gets TWO Mission Complete XP bonuses. Keep the lowbie in the mission and have the Level 50 quit the Task Force. Once the Level 50 is kicked from the mission, the lowbie will receive a THIRD Mission Complete XP bonus. Lowbie then quits the Task Force and can be reinvited by the Level 50 to start all over again.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Hero
level 35-39 Flashback: Revenant Hero Project, first mission: Level 50 and lowbie start the mission. Lowbie waits at door. Level 50 completes the mission by stealthing to the end and clicking on the glowie (which is somewhere on the last floor of the map.) Upon completion, lowbie gets TWO Mission Complete XP bonuses.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Hero
level 40-45 Flashback: The Eternal Nemesis, first mission: Level 50 and lowbie start the mission. Lowbie waits at door. Level 50 completes the mission by stealthing to the end and clicking on the glowie. This mission awards one Mission Complete XP bonus inside the mission map. To get a second Mission Complete XP bonus, have the lowbie click the Exit mission button. Have the Level 50 stay inside the mission map till the lowbie exits the mission completely and is outside. Once the lowbie is outside, the Level 50 can click the Exit mission button. Once the Level 50 is outside, the lowbie will be awarded a second Mission Complete XP bonus. Both then quit and start over to PL to level 45.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Hero
level 45-50 Flashback: Lost and Found, First Mission: Level 50 and lowbie enter mission, lowbie stays at door. Level 50 stealths to end to find Percy Winkley. Level 50 kills the two guards guarding Percy. Lowbie gets the Mission Complete bonus. Keep lowbie in the mission and have the level 50 quit the Task Force. Once the level 50 is kicked from the mission, the lowbie will receive a second Mission Complete XP bonus. Lowbie quits and Level 50 restarts the mission. Lowbie can be power leveled to level 50 this way.

NOTE: Any lowbie, level 14 or higher, can take part in this mission since the actual storyarch becomes available to level 14's and higher. In essence, a player can use this one mission to PL from level 14 to level 50.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Villain
level 1-15 Flashback: The Origins of the Snakes; first mission: Level 50 and lowbie enter mission, lowbie stays at door. Level 50 stealths to end to to kill Sithius and his two guards. Upon completion, the lowbie will be awarded TWO Mission Complete XP bonuses. Keep the lowbie inside the mission and have the level 50 quit the Strike Force. As soon as the level 50 is kicked from the mission, the lowbie will receive a THIRD Mission Complete XP bonus. Have the lowbie quit the team and have the level 50 re-invite him. This first mission of this storyarch can be repeated till the lowbie reaches level 9.

NOTE: This mission, though a level 9 mission, allows players level 1 and higher to team with a level 50. All of the other level 9 missions do not allow any players lower than level 4 to take part in the Flashback.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Villain
level 1-15 Flashback: Snake Uprising, first mission: An ultimately simple way of getting XP and leveling to level 8 (if you are level 3 or higher). Level 50 and lowbie enter Supergroup base from Mercy Island Base Portal. Level 50 selects this mission. Both level 50 and lowbie exit back into Mercy Island through portal. Lowbie stays at portal door. Level 50 attacks and kills 5 snakes close to the portal. Mission Complete only awards ONE XP bonus to the lowbie, but the mission lasts less than a minute and give up to 3 bubbles full of XP. Repeat mission to level 8 in no time.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Villain
level 1-15 Flashback: Steal the Outbreak Virus, second mission: Although not a true exploit, the second mission of this storyarch can give a LOT of XP (difficulty set on Relentless), as long as the mission is NOT completed and the lowbie is level 10 or higher.

Level 50 and lowbie enter mission, lowbie stays at door. Level 50 searches the map for the Hero/Archvillain Class Boss, Snow Maiden. Level 50 pops 4-8 Luck Inspirations and attacks and kills the Hero, Snow Maiden. The level 10 should receive 3-6 bubbles of XP per kill. Without Completing the Mission Objective, both the lowbie and the level 50 log out of the game. Both log back in and enter the mission. The level 50 then searches for Snow Maiden again, kills her, and both log out. Repeat till level 10 gets to level 15. This can be done in about an hour (or a little longer), depending on the level of the lowbie.

NOTE: This is a very short arch on its own. By running through the first mission, completing the objectives in both and ignoring Snow Maiden, a level 50 and a lowbie can repeat the entire arch over and over to get the lowbie to level 15 in no time.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Villain
level 16-19 Flashback: Breakout at the Zig, first mission: Level 50 and lowbie enter mission, lowbie stays at door. Level 50 stealths to end to find glowing computer terminal.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Villain
level 20-24 Flashback: Disturbing the Dead, first mission: Although this mission isn't a true XP exploit, this mission is ultra quick and repeatable. It only offers ONE Mission Complete XP Bonus, though if quick enough, it's possible to complete this mission twice in one minute if the lowbie has Recall Friend to teleport the level 50 back to the Base Portal door.

Level 50 and lowbie accept mission from Sharkshead Base Portal (fastest way.) Level 50 and lowbie exit through Base Portal into Sharkshead. Lowbie stays outside at Portal door. Level 50 visits and clicks on Archmage Tarixus to complete the mission. Lowbie is awarded ONE Mission Complete XP Bonus, though it is very repeatable till you get to level 24.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Villain
level 20-24 Flashback: Disturbing the Dead, second mission: Level 50 and lowbie enter mission, lowbie stays at door. Level 50 stealths to end to find glowing box. Click on it to Complete the Mission.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Villain
level 25-29 Flashback: Retrieve Crash's Shipment, first mission: Although this mission isn't a true XP exploit, this mission is ultra quick and repeatable. It only offers ONE Mission Complete XP Bonus, though if quick enough, it's possible to complete this mission 2-3 times in one minute, especially if the level 50 stays inside the base and the lowbie completes the mission by talking to Crash Cage.

NOTE: This mission's level capacity is level 25. A level 50 will be able to invite a level 20 to level 25 into the Flashback arch for the lowbie to earn XP bonuses.

Level 50 and lowbie accept mission from Sharkshead Base Portal (fastest way.) Level 50 and lowbie exit through Base Portal into Sharkshead. Lowbie stays outside at Portal door. Level 50 visits and clicks on Crash Cageto complete the mission. Lowbie is awarded ONE Mission Complete XP Bonus, though it is very repeatable till you get to level 29.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Villain
level 25-29 Flashback: Retrieve Crash's Shipment, second mission: Retrieve the Shipment

NOTE: This mission's level capacity is level 25. A level 50 will be able to invite a level 20 to level 25 into the Flashback arch for the lowbie to earn XP bonuses.

Level 50 and lowbie enter mission, lowbie stays at door. Level 50 pops 4-8 Luck Inspirations and stealths the map to find the glowing boxes. The Luck's should keep you from being interrupted by the attacking mobs near the boxes. Click on all 4 boxes to complete the Mission. Upon completion, lowbie will recieve ONE Mission Complete XP Bonus while inside the mission. Have the lowbie click the Exit Mission button while keeping the level 50 inside the mission. Once the lowbie has loaded into Sharkshead, outside the mission, have the level 50 exit (not quit) the mission. Once the level 50 gets outside the mission, the lowbie will be awarded a SECOND Mission Complete XP Bonus. Leave the lowbie outside the mission door (that he just exited) and have the level 50 return to click on Crash Cage, ending the storyarch. This awards another Mission Complete XP Bonus to the lowbie.

Have the Level 50 reinvite the lowbie to do the entire Storyarch over again and it's a quick way to get a level 20 to level 25.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Villain
level 25-29 Flashback: Heavy Metal Doctoring; first mission: Level 50 and lowbie enter mission, lowbie stays at door. Level 50 pops 4-8 Luck Inspirations and stealths the map to find the glowing medical supplies. The Luck's should keep you from being interrupted by the attacking mobs near the boxes. Click on all 4 boxes to complete the Mission. Upon completion, lowbie will recieve TWO Mission Complete XP Bonuses. Keep the lowbie inside the mission and have the level 50 quit the Strike Force. ***HEROSIDE & VILLAINSIDE OUROBOROS ZONE MISSIONS***

    Hero/Villain:
level 45-50 Flashback: Ouroboros Initiation, First mission:

NOTE: This mission is ONLY accessable to level 50's through the Ouroboros Flashback. However, since this mission is normally available to level 25's, anyone level 25 and higher can join a Level 50 in this Flashback and can earn Mission Complete XP Bonuses up till they reach level 50.

Level 50 and lowbie enter mission, lowbie stays at door. Level 50 stealths to end to find glowing box. Click on it to Complete the Mission. Upon completion, lowbie gets TWO Mission Complete XP bonuses. Keep the lowbie in the mission and have the Level 50 quit the Task Force. Once the Level 50 is kicked from the mission, the lowbie will receive a THIRD Mission Complete XP bonus. Repeat as many times as needed to reach lvl 50.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From what I've seen, all Ouroboros Flashback Storyarchs /have/ an opportunity to be exploited. What I have listed is the easiest/no risk missions that can be repeated over and over to gain extremely easy XP which can powerlevel a level 1 to level 50 in days. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

    Hope this helps out.
12.) Using Mission Teleporter to get a level 3 inside Cimerora for badges.

    13.) Team Bridging for XP

14.) Getting the Lost Savior badge on a villain before villains had the ability to switch sides. (Teaming with a hero that had the mission, and set the mission as active before the villain joined in Pocket D/RWZ, then auto-completing the mission and awarding the badge to everyone on the team regardless of alignment.)

15.) TPing through holes in Bloody Bay, Siren's Call and Recluse's Victory to kill players hiding inside of the safe zones.

16.) In Mission Architect closed beta, by switching saved mission text file data and replacing it with NPC names from demo-files, you could add any NPC to a MA. Which means replacing the Honoree with Hero1, adding real, full versions of Hamidon with Mito's instead of the weaker MA ones, etc.

17.) Also in MA beta, you could replace the names of the Maps in the text files and add zones that never were supposed to be seen by eyes of anyone outside of the Dev team. I believe one such map was called "Vinceland" and it was a space zone that had all kinds of mini-games including a rough version of the ski slopes. There was a moving blocks game, an elevator type game, and some kind of portal type game.

18.) One more in MA beta, you could change the levels of AV's and GM's in the text files. Nothing like spawning a level 1 Hamidon

19.) When in GoRo beta, if a Controller or MM had pets out when they switched sides, you would switch and pets would attack you. Loved that one. Shame it was fixed :P

I've still got a ton more. Just getting tired looking through my sent PM's folder. Will post more when I can think of them :P

    Not Goodbye

    TheNet is... JACK EMMERT!
  11. Multiple bug reports that earned me 2 Bug Hunter badges. Wish I could have contributed more.
  12. Google translate's Korean translator is pretty close to accurate. You could double check the person helping you with that. I've used it a few times when contacting KAion community people and they didn't seem to have a difficult time knowing what I wrote.
  13. I hope they do, but most of the time NCsoft games that shut down had their forums shut down within 2-4 weeks of the game's end.

Though, if someone was to supply me with the vBulletin database, I'd gladly host it for archival purposes.
  14. Since I pretty much know how to TP past most War Walls, I'm going to let the Arachnos Commander and the Arachnos Countess ride out the last hours on top of Phoebas Peak in Cimerora. Feel that it's a fitting place to ride out eternity so they can relive the history of CoH all over again.
  15. This is a PM I sent to War Witch after Herocon '08. At the event, I told her that CoH saved my life. She smiled aand thanked me for saying it but I didn't think she actually believed me.

I just reread this and am on the verge of tears. CoH really did save my life.

    ------

I thought I was going to break down in tears, so it was hard for me to say what I really meant. I didn't want to be "that guy" at a meet and greet that got overly emotional and caused a scene.

I guess it is just hard to hear myself say it because when I look back at that part of my life, it seems so foreign to me. It scares me because I never want to get back to that point of my life again. It's a personal story, and it might be a little graphic, but I wanted to show you what you all, and the CoH community did for me.

I was supposed to marry my highschool sweetheart in Oct. of 2004. We had been dating for close to 9 years and knew what we wanted from each other. She wanted a baby in the worst way and even though I wasn't thrilled with having a child before marriage, I gave in and we tried.

We had been living together for 4 years, so it felt like we were married. Unlike the married couples we knew, we were happy, so we thought we should try for a family while things were great.

On June 3rd of '04, which was our 9 year anniversary, I came home from work and was met with "I don't love you anymore and I've been seeing someone for five months." I was shattered. There was never a fight, never an argument, and nothing that anything was even wrong between us.

I made comments, that I later regretted, and left. I moved back home with my family. I was an emotional wreck. Someone that I spent everyday with for the past 9 years was gone.

Her friend, Shannon, was always nice to me. She was my ex's only friend that ever was. But I felt uncomfortable talking to anyone, let alone her, because the only memories I had with Shannon were memories of my ex.

Shannon called me and wanted to tell me the truth. She said she thought I needed to know about the stuff my ex did behind my back.

I hung up and didn't know what to do. The only things in life that I wanted was to be married and be a father. Both things were gone. So, I didn't feel there was a need to be alive.

I wanted to slowly kill myself. Everyday after work I would eat and drink, eat and drink, eat and drink. I was hoping that my heart wouldn't take the abuse and that it would stop beating. It never did. From the abuse, I gained over 100 pounds in three months.

I stopped talking to friends and family. I was determined to eat and drink myself to death and everyone knew it, but ignored it thinking that it ws my only way to deal with what happened.

    Everyone ignored it, but Shannon.

She called me everyday, left messages on my answering machine, always telling me about this videogame she and her boyfriend were beta testing. At the time, I didn't play any videogames. I continued to ignore her for a few months, but she still called everyday.

In October, about the time my ex and I were supposed to be married, Shannon left a voicemail and threatened to never speak to me again. She said that it had been months since I talked to her and that she was giving up on me. That scared me because she was the only person that I new cared enough to call everyday. She said that if I didn't try this game, she'd never talk to me again.

    It was "City of Heroes."

I tried it, and at first, I couldn't get into it. All I could think about was dying, so the game didn't mean anything to me.

My first character was named "Kerse." I wanted the name Curse, but it was taken, and I felt that's what my real life was. Nothing but a curse.

The game felt like it was just something to pass the time till Shannon logged off, so I could start drinking again. But, on this day something amazed me.

Shannon and I were in Perez Park, just duoing random mobs. Then the Kraken appeared. I saw Shannon call in Broadcast, "KRAKEN! Send tell for invite." Within seconds our team filled and what seemed to be hundreds more players just appeared out of nowhere. I was shocked. These people all came to fight this monster. Well, it was a long fight since we were all low levels. But the thing that snapped me out of my 4 month long funk was, "You have defeated Kraken."

All of a sudden, everyone started yelling, "Congrats Kerse! Awesome job! Way to tank!"

My heart was racing and I felt like I had a purpose. I felt like I belonged. I felt like a Superhero!

From that point on, when I felt the need to eat or drink out of control, I logged into City of Heroes. As soon as I got home from work, I logged in. When I woke up in the morning, I logged in. City of Heroes saved my life because it made me feel like I had a life worth living. That I could help defeat this "pixelated evil." What I really felt was that I was defeating the demons in me.

City of Heroes is a home to me. The community feels like a family to me. And I have the utmost respect for what you all, at Cryptic and NCsoft, did to make me see that life was living. That I was useful. That I have a purpose.

I play the game, I look for bugs and exploits, I try to write AE stories, but I don't do it for me. I do it because I owe you all everything. I feel that you all saved me and I know it's not something that I can easily repay. So I try to help out when I can.

Like I said, City of Heroes is my home. My one goal is to make sure that my home is around, and taken care of, so that others can find solace when their real lives are turned upside down.

Thank you so much and thank you to everyone at Paragon Studios for giving me my life back.
  16. BT, you've been an awesome friend IRL as well as in-game all these years. I'm glad that you got to live out a dream. I'm also glad I tried to push you to applying when you said, "I don't think they'd hire me."

I'm not all that religious, but I pray that the best in life finds you and you can continue your path in the MMO industry.

...even though you never fillled my pockets with inf. or PL's >: (
  17. Stammering... Kirk... Speak....

I can safely say, wait. No I can't.

    CoH Bucket List

I just want them to give us X500 XP for the remainder of the game. Too many alts that need 50 before they die.

    Twitter campaign

Yep. First person I messaged was Wil.
  20. Commander

    Twitter campaign

I've been messaging verified celebrities on Twitter all night with the message "Help us save the 1st Superhero MMO #CityOfHeroes. After 8 years, NCsoft has pulled the plug for no reason. Please help us!"

My intent is to get the message out there to at least one celebrity that has been associated with Superhero films/shows, videogamers, comic book artists, etc.

I'm trying to get us national publicity in one form or another in the hopes of making NCsoft officially give us a reason as to why they have closed down CoH over other non-profitable games.

In the end, it may not do much. But even getting one celeb that's interested in championing our cause is better than where we've been left.

I'm not suggesting you spam people on social networks. I'll take the hit and possible twitter ban. But taking our plight viral may be the only chance that we've got for answers on how to save our game.

    Thanks for reading.

  22. So, if the rumor is true about the 5 year "lease" of CoH from Cryptic to NCsoft, that they didnt renew...

Makes me think that something "might" have been up for a while, just under wraps by the heads of the game.

Maybe they knew that Cryptic wouldn't renew and were asked to kill off States and Psyche in the Coh universe... to make them reborn in the CO universe? After all, if the rumor is true, then the rights and IP of Coh goes back to Cryptic and they can then incorporate it into CO lore.'

Or I could have had too much to drink tonight...
  23. From what I saw on the Trademark and Copyright registry, the term "Paragon City" was cancelled in 2009 but re-upped as a trademark in 2012 and is currently active.

So, I'd dare say that the next "gen" game was going to be titled "Paragon City" and start a new story over from scratch.
