  1. If Achilles had a heal he wouldn't have been nearly as famous for his heel.
  2. Since I stopped using fire blast I've noticed a big bump in dps.

I would have never have even guessed I needed to drop the 2nd primary power in my power set.
  3. One thing I've noticed in my years of playing this

The devs seem to LOVE abandoning content they have recently made

Just look at Praetoria, they even admit it was a mistake to create a totally new player starting area. Just think about how much more useful/interesting Praetoria would've been as storyline content for high level players. Instead it became an extended noobie zone with players fighting to get to level 20 and to get OUT. I bet most people haven't seen 1/4th of the content available there. I recall reading articles about the devs basically saying 'Oops! We shouldn't have created a new starting area with the villain side already stressed for players! Oh well...'

How many times are these devs going to repeat the same mistake before they start using some of their old content? How many of those mistakes are going to be left in the game without care?

Now don't get me wrong here, I don't want to be stuck repeating the same thing over and over either, but I remember hazard zone street hunting in the ancient days of CoH. Now these whole zones lie unused and empty. I can't make a team go there and hunt the streets of a hazard zone with me cause the devs made absolutely sure that missions would be better XP way back in the early days of CoH.

The weekly taskforce was a GREAT idea! Absolutely loved it. However, it's been thrown out the window with the release of the newest incarnate FARMS. Did I say FARMS cause that's what they are. FARMS. Woo hoo farming, as if there wasn't enough of that in CoH!

What is going on with the devs? Hey! Devs! You made a lot of great content back in the old days! Fun stuff and places... how about you use more of it! Isn't that easier for you developers than creating all these grand new places to toss aside and completely ignore with the release of the next issue?

Even those money grubbing execs running Cryptic ought to be on board with reusing some old content on the cheap.

More weekly missions in the old places. Make them change as time goes on, extend the storyline beyond the current issue. Give rewards for visiting these places that are worth it for both the level capped and leveling players alike. And dear god please no more farms.
  4. I didn't go all in like JohnnyKilowatt but yes, I play as fire/fire/fire and I do have around 30% damage increase from IO's and I do have assault, plus it's not really a damage buff but I do have melt armor and my reactive interface alpha. However, the first line of my original post says I'm looking for anything -after- character creation, as in I'm not looking for the best or most damage dealing class (entirely debatable) but rather things that will definately add bonuses to anyone willing to work for them.

A nice find I obtained yesterday was Geas of the Kind Ones. Though it's only once every 25 minutes, with everything else I have I hit the recharge cap easily for at least a minute.

It's little things like that I'm looking for.
  5. After character creation, what are some of the ways to enhance blaster damage to the fullest beyond enhancements?

There are the obvious means of increasing damage such as fully slotting purple io's and having every incarnate power tree completed. What are some of the more obscure methods?

I thought awhile back I saw a power from something that permanent, an icon on another players buff bar which added some small percentage to damage. I assumed it was from a certain collection of badges.
  6. I don't really know who is wrong or right in this case but I do know this.

    i20 sucks.

I don't care if I'm winning or losing the BAF/Lambda trials, they're just boringly repetative. Even if this is addressed with new content being pushed out in a hurry (read WAY TOO SOON) I will never want to do these stupid trials again. I'm not even someone who does these 5 times a day! I do them maybe once a night, though I've taken a week off from the entire game now.

They've turned the game into another crappy wow clone with i20, and the best thing, the thing that brought me back to this game from wow, was the fact that it wasn't WOW!
  7. I don't like the idea of judgement because it's boring.

I don't care if everyone gets a super nuke or whatever, but that's the problem, it's JUST a nuke. I liked the idea of enhancements building on my existing character, forcing new decisions about what powers I take and how to enhance them, something I was sort of (but not entirely) locked into. That was the alpha slot.

Everything I've read about judgement is just about 'you get boom'. No big decision there.

    Dull.

    Blaster survival

Target an enemy, queue your attack (the red ring around it) and shoot from max range.

Use closer range attacks as the enemy gets closer. Sure big fireballs are big damage numbers but they also kinda get you killed early on and aren't really that needed.

Find a tank to be your friend.

Stay away from the enemy. Getting punched will clobber you, getting shot isn't so bad usually.

Consider hover and fly as your travel power. Along with being good for getting anywhere you can stay out of melee range and it makes picking your targets much easier.

I did read your guide Local Man, stared at it for several hours yesterday wishing I had picked a different secondary.

As for playstyle, I like the idea of team control/buffer since defense is pretty much something just about everyone can use.

One of the specs I did like was as a tanker, since a tanker is basically a tough class there to control mobs somewhat. My idea was the other way around, a controller that could tank. I found that defense is not the best way to achieve this though, since many mobs can simply kill me with that one shot that gets through my defense, even with tough/weave/ancillary all dedicated to toughening up. I just don't have the HP of a true tank.

I've tried the blaster build but I found my damage between my few single target damage abilities was severely lacking. Even with pets spamming their abilities, the only time I really did any damage was with PA out.

One thing I found was very easy to do was to load up on knockback. My thought was 'hey what a great way to control mobs, they can't hit anything if they're on the ground. Only one problem, try getting a team to not kick you when you're throwing mobs all over the place.

I'm really open to anything at this point. I like teaming, so I suppose if there's any direction I'd like a strong team build.
  10. I have respecced more times than I can remember. It may be possible that I'm never going to be happy with this controller. However now every time I respec I cancel out. The problem is this was my first 50 back when the game was new and many many nerfs (especially to illusion) have happened since I last had a playable spec.

The short version: using basics, come up with a decent playable spec for illusion/forcefield. I don't plan on investing in a full IO build but if you must keep it cheap, like under 100mil cheap. Thanks for anything you want to throw out there in advance.

    Please help

I can type but the command doesn't seem to work.

I guess I'll just play without a UI
  12. Most of mine were pretty long times, around 400 hours just cause I like taking my time and having fun

notable though was my fire/fire in the glory days of burn (long ago) at 225 hours, all solo

then of course there was the dominator that went from 0 to 50 in about 5 hours killing rikti monkeys

    Please help

I accidentally hit some random key combination on my keyboard and it totally closed my UI as if I were going to take a screenshot without the UI in the way

I have no idea what key this was or how to undo it.

    Help!
  14. In the war room of the Vanguard
Next to the giant video screen of the Rikti mothership and the battlefield
    There is a whiteboard

    "Sales come when people care
People like you and I care
    Take care of the customer"

    ...

wtf does this have to do with killin Rikti?
  15. I do see it showing but what exactly is the effect?

Hit by a single slow my powers still seem to slow to the point of ineffectiveness, even with haste running. Yet one hit from a friendly kin with speed boost and suddenly all that goes away.

So is the resistance just something along the lines of the slowing effect is 20% less effective but still 80% effective?
  16. Bugged or broken?

I mean yeah it's an always on power, but I don't see it doing anything when I get a slow debuff. I'm not even sure the cold protection is adding to my resistance. Wouldn't know with fire since that was already capped.

    Lady Winter

Looking for the location to pick up the Lady Winter quest

These things seem like they should be obvious, but no mention anywhere on the update notes or through searching the forum, just lots of people saying they killed her.
  18. I left around the same time!

I will back up Bio Flame, after chatting with Jack Emmert a few times it was clear he was a goon that didn't know a thing about MMO games. This game has vastly improved in his absence.

I had a nice BS/regen scrapper at the time of this nerf and the whole insane internal build of CoH which had absolutely nothing to do with live. Everyone always wonders if the devs are playing the same game we are... back then they weren't!

All that said, I'm going to have to say regen is just fine the way it is now. Honestly, I was surprised when I logged back in my regen scrapper who I abandoned as a totally useless character long ago. While it's true that an alpha strike is regen's worst enemy, I've found that as long as you're ready for that burst of damage there's little regen can't handle. IH certainly does not need 100% uptime. Play your clicky heals well and choose when to use them wisely, that's the best part about having regen.

    Animorph pack

I like the idea of animal heads and mutations, so long as it's kept in superhero theme. By that I mean somewhat mythological looking creatures, allowing incarnations of Egyptian gods and goddesses as well as monsters of Greek mythos.

However, if I see one cartoon wolf head with spikey hair I'm so cancelled. The last thing this game needs is furries driving away people. I think even Cryptic knows that's a real possibily, and the major reason why they've drug their heels for so long on this rather obvious expansion to the game.
  20. Why take shadow maul? Isn't it fairly low damage compared to single target stuff? I find it's rare that I can get enemies to line up enough to all get punched at the same time.

Just curious cause the longish animation makes it seem pretty meh to me.
  21. Having not quite gone fully heroic yet with my villain, I'm faced with level 32. Vendors will not talk to me, so I can't buy enhancements, unless I'm missing something... are there any vendors for single origin enhancements that are available at level 32 to both sides?

    Doom?

    I don't think so Tim
  23. I think the original post here has a lot of merit. I didn't really find one thing I disagreed with. My recent forays into pvp have shown me a few things that seriously do need to be addressed as this 'equalization' has done anything but make things equal. The true problem here, as it is in most MMO's, is that players will never be equal. Their powers give them too much diversity to ever possibly truely balance so that things are even every time. These debuffs and buffs to nearly every class in an attempt to even things up created a massive imbalance in powersets that are afflicted more than others by them.

Example: my controller, with illusion/ff is all but useless. My powerset revolves around buffing others with invisibility and bubbles and though it has strong damage bursts, I chose powers which allow others to be buffed in defense. These powers were chosen long before the changes to pvp which rendered them all but useless.

Example: My dark/regen scrapper is almost entirely unaffected by these changes, and in fact benefits by the granted resistance and defense I don't and shouldn't really have.

To normalize or standardize things which are drastically different as these two examples along with every other powerset in the game is really a pointless feat. The most I have learned from this is that I will have to reroll another character just to be competative if none of the ones I have work in pvp. Without being able to use half my powers on one character and while gaining even more benefit on others, if anything, normalization has put things further apart. This to me should say whatever steps the devs thought were good to bring things closer together are the exact opposite of what they should be doing since they drove the powers sets even futher apart in terms of balance. Was any change ever really nessesary? For the sake of keeping things from going stale, I would say yes, but not for the sake of 'game balance'.

Something to remember in these requests, demands, opinions, and rants. Change takes time, especially since PVP caters to a rather small group of the player base. I don't like it any more than anyone else, because I do like PVP, but bugs in powers, costume pieces, missing sections of the map, and LAG affect us all, even the people who don't pvp ever. These will likely always get higher priority than a perfectly balanced pvp system, and it's something I just accept.

    Ill/FF bad?

I was just doing some random missions with a team. Pretty much quietly keeping to myself, happily buffing 33% to all defenses with FF, throwing out tactics, locking down bosses with Illusion and some pets.

So like they kicked me after two missions without saying anything. Is this game just for electric and kinetics now?
  25. I'm looking through the enhancements my pets can take. I notice on zombies at least healing enhancements are an option. Is there any reason zombies would need healing enhancements? They don't seem to heal.
