There's a small flaw in the abusing Self Destruction idea: Self Destuction does KB, which puts most of the mob out of Soul Transfer's range. If there's nothing in range of Soul Transfer it does nothing at all and you just lay there. Highly aggravated me the time an Energy blaster jumped in and nuked just as I hit my rez, everything went flying and my rez failed.

FA would work better because even if you can't hit anything you can at least still rez. RotP doesn't require targets to function like Soul Transfer does.

You could build the idea into a DM/Fire ImobilBurn toon I suppose.

Not sure to be honest. I didn't transfer it to Mids so I don't know what all is going on. I also don't know MA well enough to give you advice. DM, Claws, or Broadsword I could probably help with, but not MA.

It's pretty hard to screw WP up, so you should be okay there. I'm working on a MA/WP myself, so if I come up with a good one I'll post it for you. I'm pretty good at coming up with solid builds with very little money, so if I DO come up with one, it will be solid if not stellar, and won't cost you that much.

(For an example of a cheap, solid build check out my thread "BS/DA build critique", it's got a decent one in it)
  3. Actually, Bill and I both play on Pinnacle, so that's most likely where it will be happening. They're generally kind of spur of the moment things, planned no more than a day or two in advance.

It will be a while before our next one, as we are both finishing character's builds, so if you can get a scrapper or brute to 35 in the next few weeks on Pinnacle you're more than welcome to come along.

I wouldn't ask you to transfer a character just to run a TF with us.

Technically, in a toggle or auto power, they are refreshing themselves every ten seconds, just like a proc, since all they are is procs with a 100% chance of firing.

    To explain to the OP:

A proc is anything you see that has "Chance for" in it's name. Like Mako's Bite: Chance for Lethal Damage. Any time you use the power that has that enhancement slotted in it, it rolls on another table to see if that proc goes off. Usually the chance is 20%, so every time you attack with that power, you have a 20% chance to do extra lethal damage.

The Numina's Convalescence, Miracle, and Regenerative Tissue uniques are exactly the same thing, only their chance to fire is 100%. In a healing click power, such as Heal Other, if you have the Miracle unique slotted, there is a 100% chance of your recovering being buffed by 20% for 120 seconds, every time you use it.

Toggle powers and auto powers make checks every ten seconds for procs to fire. If you have a Performance Shifter: Chance for +End in Stamina, every 10 seconds it will make a check for the proc to fire, if it rolls under 20% on the randome number generator, the proc goes off and you gain endurance.

The Miracle proc slotted in Health behaves the same way, only the chance is 100% instead of 20%. So every 10 seconds, it makes a check to see if the proc fires, and since the proc cannot fail to fire, it applies the buff.
  5. Never mind, I apparently need to read the rest of things I link to.

The point of it was more that people will sue over some STUPID things.

The lady that sued McDonalds because she spilled hot coffee on her lap, we know that one is true. How could you even expect to win a case like that? Yet, she did. It is common knowledge that coffee is served HOT, and she didn't expect to be burned when she spilled it on herself because she put it between her legs instead of a cupholder? Give me a break, she got awarded millions for being dumb, simple as that. McDonalds lost that case because they failed to put a warning on the side of the cup saying it was hot. Any idiot could tell by just holding the cup that the substance inside was hot.

There is sure to be someone out there who would think that, because of the precedent of cases like that one, that they would be entitled to millions of dollars because a video game's box misled them.

That doesn't mean they WILL get millions of dollars (but with our legal system, who knows), but they may think they stand enough of a chance of it to try.

And if someone did, NCSoft would have to spend time and money fighting it in court (assuming it got that far), and on the off chance the judge was a moron and decided that they DID deserve millions, NCSoft would have to pay up.

I don't think the chances are all that good of someone suing, and even worse of them winning, but I'm sure NCSoft has considered the possibility. So, not removing xp from AE after advertising that it's an alternate leveling path would be a simple case of covering their @$$. Which I can't say I blame them for.
  6. I actually agree wholeheartedly Sam.

When I first started playing and accessed a new area i wandered around it for hours just checking stuff out. Everything was new and (metaphorically) shiny. After having been here for almost 4 years I don't even notice the landscape anymore most of the time.

I love Badge-Hunter.com, it's helped me out with a lot of the badges I couldn't find on my own....but it has sort of killed the thrill of finding a badge on your own that you didn't realize was there. The first character I had that I took fly on I actually discovered several badges just because I wanted to see what was up there, and there happened to be a badge. I'm the only person I know that found the badge at the top of the bridge in IP by accident, just because I was exploring with flight for the first time. I found Keen Sighted and Silent Sentinal the same way.

Another thing the game needs more of is challenge. Even the most difficult Task Forces have gotten so routine that you can almost autopilot your way through them. I ran a Kahn TF last night with 5 team members. As it turns out it was a perfect pentad: tank, blaster, controller, defender, scrapper. We fought Reichsman for almost 2 hours and couldn't beat him, because we just didn't have the damage for it, but for the first half hour it felt EPIC to be engaged in this battle with a powerful foe. We could hurt him, but it was slow going. It didn't get impossible until we had him almost dead and he started using MoG and Unstoppable every 30 seconds it felt like. We eventually called it a bust, but it reminded me of the old days before everyone had figured out the most efficient way to do things, you engaged in an epic battle to achieve you objective and got a sense of accomplishment when you succeeded. My first Synapse TF was a PuG, and no one on it had ever done it before. The wiki didn't exist yet, or was still relatively unknown, so no one was looking up how to go about things. No one on the team knew about Babbage, so when he showed up we were all like: "WHOA! What the HELL?!!" Completing that TF is still one of the most satisfying things I have done in CoH to this day.

It's sad that the game has turned into "How fast can I get stuff with the least effort?"

It's lost most of the feeling of accomplishment. Everyone wants to speed through TFs for the merits at the end, using the quickest method possible. The all scrapper ITF I ran last weekend was a nice change of pace. We didn't speed through, and we fought a LOT of stuff that we didn't have to. No one had overwhelming debuffs for the AV fight, so it actually required strategy to do. it was a nice change of pace and I hope to do more stuff like it in the future.

I really hope when Going Rogue is released that there are things in it that there IS no easy way to do, you either do it the hard way or not at all. CoH has turned into easy mode grinding and I don't like that about it. I have characters that can handle the toughest challenges currently in the game without batting an eye, I just wish there was something for them to do that felt difficult. It's kind of sad when scrapper players start making up rules for things just so there's some challenge to it. That challenge should be there in the first place.

    Pretty much this.

Everyone complains about prices getting higher and higher, and very few realize that it is because influence and infamy are just piling up and not really going anywhere. If anything we need more money sinks in the game, not less.

As has also been mentioned, you're not given the ability to respec your character so you can strip all the expensive stuff off of them. You should put be putting more thought into whether or not you really want to do it.

Posi said that they were being generous when allowing you to keep ANY enhancements. They could have just as easily said "Nope. If you respec your character you lose EVERYTHING."

Were there no Acrobatics for use with Dark Armor, I'd be avoiding enemies with knockback just like the above. I'd rather go without knockback protection than invest in the IOs to overcome it.
So if a Karma or Steadfast KB Protection IO dropped from an enemy in a mission (thereby not costing you any money) you would refuse to use it? Or is it just that you don't want to pay for it?

I have no choice but to use them if I want my BS/DA to be at all effective, simply because so many enemy types in the late game have knockback powers. His build is set up to be softcapped and I can't afford either the power pick or the endurance to run Acrobatics. Fortunately when he was in the 20's he had one of each KB Protection IO drop off enemies, so I didn't have to pay for them.

If I didn't have them I would spend more time on my back than fighting in some missions.
  9. Just had a thought. You ever try to stab something with your fingertips? Now try stabbing a sheet of steel (like a Crey Tank would wear.

    Ouch.
  10. The Nictus Essences will not react if they are hit with an 80 foot or better single target attack at it's absolute max range.

I was on one that killed them that way, my sonic blaster could use his first two attacks with impunity. A good way to ensure that you are at max range is to queue up the attack from out of range and slowly creep forward until it fires. After that as long as you don't move and your target doesn't move you should be fine.
  11. If you look in the scrapper forums I have a build posted for a softcapped BS/DA. I am pretty confident in it's ability to solo AVs even though it's not done on live yet.

It's the second build in the thread.

  13. Downside to removing those missions is, what about the new players who haven't run them a thousand times before already?

Some of the things aren't obvious when playing through the first time. How many new players would see Faultline if they didn't have to talk to Jim Temblor? If they're interested in PvP talking to those liasons are the ONLY place you learn where to PvP at.

Sure, they can be told by other players, but they may not htink to ask the right questions to find things out.

Point being, yes, they ARE annoying to veteran players who know all that stuff already, but that's not who those missions are meant for. They're meant for the first time player so they can learn stuff about the game.

I'm okay with getting destroyed. Only way I'll ever know if I can do it is if I try.

I have no respect for those that assume failure is a given and never make an attempt.

True. I have a Fire/TA, which I chose for 2 reasons: 1) Too damn many Fire/Kins around, didn't want to be another one of the throngs of them, and 2) Fire is great for damage, but lacks a little on the contol side. The major downside is I have no way to protect my imps from damage, so they die a lot.

On topic: Sonic Resonance is by far the least chosen set. Followed by Cold.

Empathy and Rad are probably the top 2.

Secondary-wise, Energy and Electric are probably the least chosen.

Sonic, Ice, Dark, and Archery seem to all be about equally popular.

The Defense is better than CJ, it is about twice, and doesn't suppress. And it does give you a +Perception. Still, it's circumstancial enough that you can turn it off and on, IMHO.

I built a softcapped DA scrapper, and CoD is a BIG part of getting there. I have it 6 slotted with Red Fortune. The defense it gives is equal to Weave and doesn't suppress like other stealth powers.

Not seeing my costume is a small price to pay for 40% resistances and 45+% defense to all 3 positions, plus the best heal in the game.

    RWZ challenge?

I'm going to try Arcana's challenge with my BS/DA when he's done. Came up with a pretty wicked build, I wanna see how it stacks up to everyone's horror stories.
  18. Sure!

It's gonna be a few weeks before my BS/DA is done (barring some extremely lucky drops). And I have to wait for I16 to get the freespec and access to Physical Perfection to finish up the build anyway. So that gives you time to whip your brute into shape.

Might do an all melee ITF as well (mostly so I can bring my DM/Nin stalker)
  19. Depending on when it's happening I can lead a scrapper kill team on blueside. I've only run one, so I would not be comfortable trying to lead the whole thing. A team I can handle.

Unfortunately I don't have Vent though.
  20. Hey Bill, would you be down to do it again after my BS/DA's build is done?

I'm working on a softcapped DA build, he'll be vulnerable to cascading defense failure due to lack of defense debuff resistance, but he has ~40% smash/lethal resistance and the best self-heal in the game, so I should be okay.

I'm pretty geeked about that toon's build and I want to throw all the challenges at him I can, just to see how good he really is. RWZ Challenge, AV soloing, ridiculous overwhelming odds situations, you know, standard scrapper stuff
  21. Quote:
I was thinking that throwing Conserve Power or the new Physical Perfection with a Perf Shifter +End proc in that last spot might be a better pick
Well, since I16 isn't live yet, I can't take Physical Perfection, which was my plan in the first place. I'm keeping the rez until I have all the sets I need anyway. Also, I already have Conserve Power, which I'm guessing will be a prerequisite for Physical Perfection anyway.

    Quote:
I guess you find difficult to softacap ranged while fitting AH in the build and prefer softcapping??
Bingo. The trade-off between the extra DPS from the AH and softcapping is worth it. I'd only even notice the AH on bosses and higher anyway.
  22. Slightly revised build.

I found a way to soft cap ranged and got AoE to within .1% of softcap. Lost some regen, but the tradeoff is worth it. I'm actually pretty happy I managed to soft cap a BS/DA without gimping my damage output, and without using Hami-Os.

I'm keeping the Touch of the Nictus set because A) I already have it slotted exactly like that, and B) as Werner noted, I'm a little light on accuracy bonuses, and that set helps with that.

    Here's the slightly revised build:

  23. It wouldn't be Hide, it would be a generic stealth power. Since scrapper stealth cap is only 571 feet (as opposed to the stalker stealth cap of 1143 feet) having Hide would do no good at all, since it could not get any better than 571 feet.

They'd also have to replace caltrops with something else because it is available in the Weapons pool.

Other than those two points, yes I would like Ninjitsu for scrappers as well.
  24. Check out my BS/DA build I posted in this section

    (Title: BS/DA build critique)

It won't help the spines side much, but it will help you with the DA part.

Your build looks okay actually, just figured I'd give you another take on Dark Armor.

Edit mine. Keep in mind that almost all the recipes, and the ones in high demand especially, have a cost in hundreds of merits. You have also done something to get those recipes - I doubt they spontaneously materialized in your inventory while you weren't looking. In turn, you get an opportunity to exchange something you don't want for a fraction of something you do want.

I notice how you conveniently ignored the rest of my post where I point out that a character could get merits for doing absolutely nothing. A reward with literally no risk at all. Merits are not tradeable, and are character specific. They did that so that only the character that earned them could use them to get a reward.

Recipes ARE tradeable. There is nothing stopping you from giving a character a junk recipe and having them sell it for merits. The character getting the merits did nothing whatsoever to earn them. They are getting rewarded with absolutely no risk whatsoever.

The way the devs set up merits, the amount you recieve is determined by A) How much time (on average) you spent on the task you're recieving them for, and B) To a somewhat lesser extent, how much risk you are exposing your character to in that task.

What you're asking for is a way to circumvent both of those things, which is an exploit as defined by the developers. That is about the ONLY facet of what an exploit is that they have defined: Anything that breaks the Risk/Reward ratio. The part they haven't defined is exactly how far you have to go before they consider it an exploit.

I can't say for sure because I don't work there, but I have a feeling they would consider the ability to receive merits for simply clicking on an NPC to be a pretty major exploit, since it is a valuable reward with no risk at all.
