  1. Okay, I'm going to be blunt, so please don't take it as an insult, as it isnt my intention.

That is, to be perfectly honest, one of the most asinine ways to build a Willpower character I've seen in a long time. I'll explain why that is so.

    1) You wasted a LOT of slots chasing positional defense. Your Melee defense is sitting at 31.2%, Ranged at 23.7%, and AoE at 20%. Every single one of your typed defenses is higher than those, with the exception of melee and smashing/lethal, meaning all that positional defense you dedicated those slots to is doing precisely nothing.

In case you don't know how it works, I'll tell you WHY it is doing nothing: The game only checks against whatever defense is highest. So if you are attacked by a ranged/energy attack it will check against your energy defense of 35.3% and completely ignore your ranged defense of 23.7%

    2) You didn't slot High Pain Tolerance for Healing, instead choosing to boost the tiny amont of resistance it gives you. Willpower survives by regenerating. More HP means more regeneration. High Pain Tolerance boosts your max HP, which you do by slotting for healing. See the problem there?

    3) You slotted Follow Up with a full set of Gaussian's. Nice bonuses, and it will boost the hell out of your accuracy, but how exactly do you expect to hit with Follow Up consistently when the set you slotted has no accuracy enhancement in it? Since you wil be using Follow Up a lot, you should make sure it is actually worth using as an attack too. Doesn't make much sense to use a power that boosts damage if using that power lowers your damage output because it isn't slotted for damage itself.

    4) You slotted Focus with 2 Thunderstrikes.....and nothing else. Focus is one of your best attacks, and you completely gimped it.

    5) Why the bloody hell did you 5 slot Combat Jumping with Serendipity?!? Combat Jumping gives you 1.875% defense. Those 5 slots boost it to....2.936% You spent 4 slots and a full set of Serendipity to get 1.061% defense. The set bonuses aren't even helping you either. 4% regen is not even noticable on a WIllpower, and the AoE defense is doing nothing for you because all your typed defenses are higher than 20%

    6) With your current slotting, you don't even break 1,000% regeneration with 10 targets in range of Rise to the Challenge. I shoot for at least 1,100%, and my currently planned build will break 1,200%. 1,000% regeneration in a crowd is a minimum for Willpower, and you're the first person I've seen in a while that didn't hit it by accident.

    7) Your Hit points, with accolades turned on, is sitting at 1984.8. My Dark Armor scrapper has more than that, and Willpower should be able to blow Dark Armor out of the water on HP total without even really trying to.

About the only thing you did right in that build is slotting Reactive Armor in your resistance toggles, and you slotted 1 too many of them. More than 4 slots of Reactive Armor is a waste, because you don't get any more resistance for the 5th slot, and I've already explained why the 1.25% AoE defense bonus is useless.

I'm not trying to be mean about this, but what you've done here is completely ignore Willpower's strengths to chase a bunch of set bonuses that are doing absolutely nothing. Seriously, the game is outright ignoring all that positional defense you wasted all those slots getting.

To be perfectly frank, I'm wondering how much support you had when you were tanking that ITF, because I have serious doubts about this build's ability to do it by itself. In fact I would go so far as to say there is no way in hell this build is tanking an ITF without support, and a lot of it.

I wouldn't even be worried about them changing it. I just wouldn't choose a powerset based on something I can't even unlock until level 50.

    Fly Emotes

This is an exchange between myself and BackAlleyBrawler from a year or two ago.

    Quote:
I don't know how often you read the S&I section of the forums but there is a thread in there currently that sparked an idea for me.

Bear with me, the following is based on my guess as to how a power works, namely Prestige Power Slide.

My guess: At it's most basic level Prestige Power Slide is essentially an emote that is activated at the same time as an identical copy of Sprint. I have no idea how true that is or isn't, but it seems to make sense.

Assuming that is true, would it be theoretically possible to attach that same emote to an identical copy of Fly? And if that is indeed possible, is it also possible to attach a power effect underneath you, similar to the slide effect or Super Speed's ground effect?

I'm sure you've probably guessed where I'm going with this by now.

What I'm suggesting is a way to have a "floating platform" type effect that you can select when you take the power Fly, much like the upcoming animation options for Martial Arts and Super Strength. It could cover a wide range of effects, probably much like the elemental shield options.

For a "floating rock" effect perhaps you could use a version of the model used when you activate the power Hurl, since the model already exists.

You could also have an energy platform, ice (though Marvel may have issue with that because it's pretty close to Iceman's travel power), a tech-based either engine powered or anti-gravity disk, or, well, anything you could think of, really.

The only catch I can think of is Hover would likely need a new emote/animation if you were to have the same option. It would look kind of silly to be bracing yourself to maintain your balance while traveling that slow.

Just an idea for something I thought would be cool to have, that should be doable based on my limited (and possibly wildly off base) understanding of how Prestige Power Slide works.

Of course, it is also possible that you're way ahead of me on this one and have already come up with something like this for future release. But if it actually hadn't occurred to you (I don't think that likely) I thought I would suggest it and see if anything comes of it.
BaBs quoted the following part of it:

    Not even remotely true.
That exchange leads me to believe that animations during travel powers is a lot more complicated than we think it is, and would in fact require a new power to be created and animated for each pose or effect you wanted to have.

And yes, that was his whole response, I think he was cranky that day. I'm glad I saved that exchange in my PM box.

I would actually say the exact opposite, there is no reason to trade threads for iXP. You will earn sufficient iXP to unlock all four slots well before you get T4 abilities in each slot (in fact unless you get very lucky you'll probably do it before you have T3 abilities). iXP from Trials is free while buying it costs you threads you could use to get more components.
In every instance in which I have converted threads to iXP, I've already had at least a common enhancement crafted and I'm just waiting for the slot to unlock so I can slot it. Hell, I had a Rare Interface already crafted and waiting before I ever unlocked the slot to put it in on one of my scrappers.

Why would I want to run another trial to get that last 11% toward the slot when I can convert a few threads and unlock it now? Especially if I already have something crafted to put in it.
  7. I have a Sonic/Devices hoverblaster, and he's just beastly.

I went with Mu Mastery for the AoE immobilize, and between that and the 2 cones he lays down some decent AoE carnage.

I also have him sitting at about 32% ranged defense, with the potential for around 37-38% when I get a couple more sets slotted in him.

Pretty much any combo can hoverblast, and it isn't just blasters who can do it. I've got a Rad/Sonic defender that is softcapped to ranged defense....he solos GMs (very slowly). Corruptors can do it well too.

If you decide to go for the T2 Cardiac Alpha, you won't even need the second slot in RPD, just put the Steadfast +Def in the base slot.
Sometimes I like to put a second Steadfast Protection in for the recovery bonus if I can spare a slot. It's not much, but I'm already putting the Res/Def in there so I might as well get a bonus on a power that becomes fairly redundant after Temp Invuln, Unyielding, and Tough are taken into account.

    Any advice?
I'll give you a basic outline of how many slots and what I would put in them.

Resist Physical Defense: 2-3 slots at most, Steadfast Res/Def and a couple generics.
Temp Invulnerability: 4 slots of Reactive Armor.
Dull Pain: 5 slots of Doctored Wounds.
    Unyielding: 4 slots Reactive Armor
Resist Energies: 2 generic resist IOs (can take this later in the build)
Invincibility: 6 slots, 4 Luck of the Gambler, and 2 Rectified Reticle.
Resist Elements: 2 generic resists (this can be pushed back or possible skipped altogether)
    Tough Hide: 3 LotG
Unstoppable: I wouldn't take this at all.

    SS attacks:

All single target attacks should get 4 Kinetic Combat and maybe a Nucleolus Hami O. I'd skip Punch and Hand Clap.
Hurl: 6 slots Thunderstrike or 3 Thunderstrike/3 Devastation
    Taunt: 4 slots Mocking Beratement
Foot Stomp: 6 slotted 4 Eradication, 1 Scirocco's Dervish Dam/Rech, Force Feedback Chance for +Recharge

    Tough: 4 Reactive Armor
    Weave: 3-4 LotG

Air Superiority slotted the same as your ST attacks.
  10. There's a slight delay from mob to mob, but it jumps really fast.

    Trials

Do you mean Trials that will unlock Incarnate slots, or just trials in general?

Cavern of Trancendence, Cathedral of Pain, Eden, the Abandoned Sewer and all 6 respec trials are what are generally considered trials.

Lambda Sector and the Behavior Adjustment Facility are the only trials that unlock Incarnate content, and you must be level 50 to run them.

    That answer your question?

Actually, WP benefits from them a LOT more than Regen does. If you have the accolades, and at least 55% global recharge + slotted Hasten, Regen's Dull Pain will be perma and any further HP bonuses would be wasted.

Kinetic Combat in your single target attacks for S/L defense and some HP, Eradication in your PBAoEs for E/N defense and a LOT of HP (largest non-purple HP bonus there is). I'd fill in the 5th slot in the single targets with a Nucleolus Hami-O and the remaining 2 slots in the PBAoEs with Scirocco's Dervish Acc/Rech and Dam/Rech.

If you run a lot of Tip missions while you're leveling you can get the pricier ones of those sets with Alignment merits.

Defense is pretty crucial to a WP character, though. If you dive into a spawn and your enemies fire 1800 damage worth of attacks at you, with no defense you will take an average of 900 points of that. And they will do that at least twice before you can kill them all off. Your passive regen is not going to be able to keep up with that kind of damage without help. /Regen can get away with it because it has click heal powers, Willpower doesn't have that luxury.

It is far better to layer your mitigation than to get a lot of one type of mitigation and hope it sees you through. What makes Willpower so tough is it's ability to have decent resists, a lot of defense, and a crap ton of regen. Any one of those alone won't do you much good. Two of them is better, but all 3 gives you several layers your enemies have to go through to defeat you.

Defense is the first layer, that stops things from hitting you in the first place. Defense will drastically reduce the amount of damage you are taking all by itself.

Then comes resistance. Resistance reduces the damage of whatever manages to get through your defense.

The third layer is healing/regeneration. That will heal back anything the resistance and defense didn't mitigate.

If all you have is the resistance and regeneration, you will be hoping that you can kill all of your enemies before their damage output overwhelms your mitigation. In the higher levels with a Willpower, you shouldn't count on being able to do that all the time.

    Elec/WP

You're going to want some typed defense in there.

Relying on pure regen isn't going to keep you alive in difficult content. When you're in a large spawn, having little or no defense means you're going to be getting hit a lot, and if 10-12 things are beating on you at once, it can and will overwhelm your regen.

You should be able to get around 30% to all types without sacrificing a whole lot of recharge. Also, Recharge is less valuable for WP than some other sets. The only benefit it has is in speeding up your attacks. Personally, I'd rather be more survivable and attack somewhat slower than attack faster and be squishy.

Having all the recharge in the world won't do you much good when you're faceplanted....unless you want it to bring your rez back faster.

There's nothing especially wrong with your build, but I think you are drastically overestimating how well pure regeneration is going to keep you alive.

I've run maybe 35 trials across all my characters.

Out of those I got: 2 Very Rares (on different characters), 5 rares, 12-15 uncommons (don't recall for sure), and the rest were common.

From my experience so far, the drops have been at about the frequency I'd expect them to be.

I think every AT should have at least one set that is exclusive to it. It's not going to happen that way, but I'd like it that way.

Well, yeah. It's been a very long time since I've done anything with Claws but I seem to remember Followup as rather slow (in comparison to the other attacks) and as throwing off the whole flow of slice, slice, stab, mince, puree that Claws "should" be doing.
    Don't skip Follow Up.

When they tweaked the set a few years ago they removed that annoying pause that Follow Up had. It fits smoothly into an attack chain now. And if you go with a scrapper it will be absolutely vital to keeping your damage output up. Brutes don't need the damage as much, but the to-hit boost is very worthwhile for them.
  17. I suggest Invulnerability/Dark Melee.

You get all the plusses of Invuln, and the added survivability of DM.

I would suggest Dark Armor, but that's really more of a set for when you know the game better.

See, I'm the opposite. My scrappers are the ONLY ones that have gotten above Uncommon yet.

    BS/SD or BS/SR??

    BS/SD.

The extra damage and more AoE will make all the difference. SR will be chaper to softcap, but if you find yourself on a tight budget, you can use Parry to keep your melee defense up and focus on Ranged and AoE (which are usually cheaper to buld for)

Also, Shield gets +HP, and some resistance, neither one of which SR gets.

    Yeah, they did.

    Why?

Because in order to give us a "natural/no claws" option, they would have to completely recreate the entire set with that option.

The default combat stance for Claws has a closed fist on ALL of the animations, it is baked into the combat stance itself and cannot be changed with a simple animation swap. Cr

Creating a new combat stance is something they only do when they are creating a new powerset that none of the existing stances apply to (same reason we don't have a staff set). It is NOT a simple or quick process, and will take a significant amount of time to do.

I can pretty much guarantee they aren't going to do that amount of work just so people who have an existing set and bought a booster pack can have another costume option. And they are also not going to do that much work and restrict it to only people who bought the pack. If we get natural claws they are going to be for everyone, not just the people who plunked down ten bucks.

    Pretty much agree with this.

It would be like attempting to play Regen or Invuln using nothing but Dull Pain for survival at level 10.

If Hoarfrost doesn't save you, it will be a few minutes until you can use it again. If you skipped your defense powers in favor of it, you are going to die again in those few minutes.

Hoarfrost is a good power, I'm not arguing that. But it isn't so good that you should skip Frozen Armor in favor of it. Hoarfrost can wait a few levels, Frozen Armor and Wet Ice can't.
