Claws Clause

Um...

Did they really put out an animal/beast pack and not include natural or "no visable" claws as an option?

Seriously right now?

They did not. I don't think they even have the tech to make a power recognize if a costume piece is in use or not. Why does something like that matter? I say that because if a player used "No Claws" for their weapon customization, then all the Claws animations would have to know to animate with an open hand animation, rather than the closed fist one that is currently in use for Claws attacks. You'd also have to make the alternate animations for said attacks. Animal hands with claws too, if those weren't part of the Animal Pack.

So why not make alternate animations for each Claw attack and let players choose from there? Players could choose an open hand animation for the attacks with Claws equipped and closed hand animations with "No Claws" in use. That's likely something they won't allow, so to fix the problem would need even more additional developer time.

I still hope they do add the feature in, somehow.

Yeah, they did.

Why?

Because in order to give us a "natural/no claws" option, they would have to completely recreate the entire set with that option.

The default combat stance for Claws has a closed fist on ALL of the animations, it is baked into the combat stance itself and cannot be changed with a simple animation swap. Cr

Creating a new combat stance is something they only do when they are creating a new powerset that none of the existing stances apply to (same reason we don't have a staff set). It is NOT a simple or quick process, and will take a significant amount of time to do.

I can pretty much guarantee they aren't going to do that amount of work just so people who have an existing set and bought a booster pack can have another costume option. And they are also not going to do that much work and restrict it to only people who bought the pack. If we get natural claws they are going to be for everyone, not just the people who plunked down ten bucks.

Couldnt they just create a few "clawed hand" models that over lays over the normal hand making it only look as if it's not closed fist?

I've already thought about that, but the problem there is what about the non-attack animations that outnumber Claws animations by far? What if you tried to do a /e drink and your character had a bottle sticking to the side of an open handed animal paw? Even worse, if the paw is supposed to cover the original hand, some animations would go through the geometry making it look like you have multiple hands!

didn't see this reply but wouldn't it not applt because the open claw weapon model would only appear in certain battle stances(when the claw is drawn)

Actually, the problem is more that you need to make the "bear arms" large enough to fit over most existing gloves. I'm not even talking about things like Large Robotic or Enforcer, just the regular Large and Banded gloves, or even the Flared ones.

However, if you make this into a weapon, what this means is the "weapon bear arms" would only exist when you're using Claws attacks. As soon as you attempted to use a non-Claws attack, the bear arms would disappear just like the Claws do now. Furthermore, emotes suppress weapon props, so if you attempted to eat, drink or even cross your arms, the bear arms would disappear.

I've suggested this before in a slightly different form - large cloven metal gauntlets perpetually stuck with fingers extended into a clawing position which appear when you attack and disappear when you stop, revealing your normal, smaller hands underneath. I still think it's a viable suggestion, though probably one best made in the de-facto Suggestions forum.

The bare bones basis for this taunts and teases me regularly... just emote "roar"

I often growl along with it in angst... more so now that there is a natural animal bestial set that can only be paired with the gaudy steel claws from beta.

I remember when I used to cry for pistols and everyone would pile on and say "never gonna happen"... I hope natural claws turn out the same way for me.

Until then I'll just keep my extremely long fingernails crossed.
