I feel so bad that this made me laugh. But I feel so evil wanting to go track this one down and play it and that feeling is always so good....

I also have to say that others have offered some good justification (or rationalization?) to create such arcs, although "catching" truant children with my mastermind's robot's burn patches seem even a little silly compared to "arresting" criminals with fireballs.

  3. My to-do list is quite easy: take probably every alt I have to the tailor and start playing around. I expect to come up for air in time for GR. :3
  4. I just published my third arc, which is for lowbie villains:

Day Job Hell: A Villain's First Day Job

    Arc ID#: 322480
    Length: Long
    Morality: Villainous
Enemy Groups: ClockWork, Tuatha de Dannan, "re-purposed" standard foes (colors+name changed)
Description: "Rise from the Mercy sewers and become a true villain. Lowbie villain arc, lvls 1-10. Guaranteed snake free! Custom groups='re-purposed' standards. Single added Boss spawns as a Lt. on Difficulty setting 1. LBMA, SFMA [not yet spellchecked]"

Take your villain from zero to hero! Wait, that didn't come out right... but you get the idea. Your new villain needs a place to start and getting a couple of dayjob badges seems as good as anything, but the only place that will have you is the Mercy Island Sewer Works, run by a man known as Fats Squalor. Learn to hate your job, your friends and to turn that burning rage into what it takes to become a true villain. This one's a bit more serious than my usual fare but it does have some touches of humor.

I've tested it with a few level 1 squishes without using tyheir vet powers and they all did ok on difficulty setting 1. Good for a few levels if you're at level one or two.
  5. So instead of sending a fruit basket, is there a service I can call that will deliver a "wellness basket"? Cans of chicken noddle soup, cough drops, night-time sleepy medicine, cough syrup and a flat of tissue...

Hope you all get better soon.
  6. Hi everyone! I've just published my third mission, so I've decided to put up a thread listing all of them again so that I can let people know as I adjust them as I get feedback and so on. The first two had their own threads when they were originally published, but the board ate them back before it was set to not lose threads. So without further ado...

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    TOO MANY BUNNYGIRLS!

    Arc ID#: 101165
    Length: Medium
    Morality: Neutral (leans heroic)
    Enemy Groups: custom
Description: "You can't swing a dead cat around here without hitting another stupid bunnygirl mission. Ugh. Someone should do something about them, once and for all. Someone like you. (story, humor, rabbit puns; best for higher levels but not too hard; 5 Bosses, no EBs or AVs)"

Fight bunnygirls and try to stop a super-celebrity tabloid from publishing embarrassing pictures of yourself! I made this one based off some silly discussion with my girlfriend, and it probably shows. Funnily enough, the plot is pretty tight regardless... not sure how that happened!

Currently at 4 stars with 125 plays.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A.E.'s Premium Quality Mission: "guaranteed qualityyyLOADING ERROR 0.000459

    Arc ID#: 101165
    Length: Long
    Morality: Neutral
Enemy Groups: "re-purposed" standard foes (colors+name changed), custom
Description: "We are proud to present this superior A.E. simulation. Our latest advance in technology has been precision-crafted to provide you with the best entertainment possibbbbb(LOADING_ERROR x.000352 CONTACT A.I. DEPT. AT ONCE) [Errors can be funny! SFMA, funny, story, HFMA - two bosses, no EBs or AVs]"

Description says it all. Orange text at the bottom of the listing says it has EBs in it but it doesn't. I went over it and ended up bugging it. The devs said it's just a bug.

Currently at 4 stars with 62 plays.

Day Job Hell: A Villain's First Day Job

    Arc ID#: 322480
    Length: Long
    Morality: Villainous
Enemy Groups: ClockWork, Tuatha de Dannan, "re-purposed" standard foes (colors+name changed)
Description: " The touching and somewhat humorous coming-of-age story of how your villain rose from a job in the sewers of Mercy to become a true villain. [Lowbie villain arc lvls 1-10. Guaranteed snake free! Custom groups='repurposed' standards. Added Boss spawns as a Lt. on Difficulty setting 1. LBMA, SFMA]"

The first two missions have an ally to help you if your pretty weak, and they both reappear in the final one to help with the boss fight. Learn to hate your job, your friends and to turn that burning rage into what it takes to become a true villain. This one's a bit more serious than the previous two but not by lots, really.

I've tested it with a few level 1 squishes (without using any vet powers) and they all did ok on difficulty setting 1. Good for a few levels if you're at the lower end of one to ten; if not, it's still fun and has no snakes!

Currently at 5 stars (!) with 38 plays.

Please feel free to post any questions or comments here about these missions. I'm open to hear anything from anyone and promise to give serious consideration to suggestions made. Without the many great feedback replies I've gotten in the past, these wouldn't be half as fun to play as they are now.

So - I hope you enjoy them and thanks for playing!

My first experience with this was when i mentioned that i was running some striga missions in SG chat and a handful of other members joined and exemp'd into the 25-29 range and we assualted the council base by going through the Wolf's Thoat tunnel breaking into the base and causing havoc. It was so much fun!
since then i've tried to spread that same feeling by grabbing random players and assualting the Forge in Sharkhead, hunting on the Islands in Nerva, grabbing some rockets in warburg with a team can be a blast too.
The biggest part of it though is making your own fun.
This reminds me of something I had completely forgotten about. One time I was tooling around Sharkhead on a villain (I forget which one) and joined a PuG to do radio missions I think. After the second or third one the leader said "we should go attack that Wyvern base on that one island near here." It didn't exactly go over well. "Aw, c'mon, it'll be cool!" So we sort of begrudgingly went along, as players in a PuG who don't have the star tend to be a lazy bunch... only to discover that we were really too low level for the foes that spawn there. I think we all died twice before we realized what a big mistake that was ("outside debt" too, ouch).

Still, now that I think about it, it actually would have been kind of cool, if it had worked out. Maybe they need to drop this "outside debt" stuff to make such walking about a little less crazytalk-ish.
  8. I have no idea who any of these people are beyond the Capt. What-'is-name videos to begin with, so I can't say I'm all atwitter over these (hope that doesn't sound rude or anything). I might give them a go at some point.

But with the upcoming nerf to AE arcs custom-group XP*, will anyone else?

(* Yes I am assuming they will be making arcs with custom-groups, I know)
  9. This makes my third end-of-summer on this game and I can tell you that it always seems to slow down because of back-to-school. Once people get ensconced in their classes and so on it'll pick back up a bit more, but it's never as busy as it is during the summer.

In over 5 years I've logged in the game almost daily and I always hate it. Every month I pay my subscription fee and I rage at having to pay for this horrible game when the development team never listens to me. They never give me what I want. I don't really know what that is but they never do it. They never make the game the way I tell them to. Well sometimes they do what I tell them to but then I end up not liking it because it's dumb and they should have known that. What am I paying them for?

So if they stopped giving me more stuff I would definitely be outta here because the stuff that I have been playing since May of 2004 up until now has never been any good and it sickens me that I am forced to spend so much time playing this game, a game that I pay for and it's always been terrible.

Multiple free updates over 5 years, not to mention one paid expansion we were forced to buy....nice way to squeeze extra money out of people by the way...did you really think we wouldn't figure that out? and they have never once gotten it right.

I try to be patient because I'm a mature adult but I can only take being ripped off and defrauded for so long.

If there were no more free updates I would quit this stupid game that I play daily just like I have been telling the developers that I would with every update they have ever had.

I would go play some other game out there that is actually good where the developers actually listen to their playerbase and design their MMOs around each individual player to give them what they want. Every other MMO out there does this. There is no excuse that this one doesn't do that too.

Then I would be gone and this company wouldn't have my subscription fee anymore. Hopefully maybe then they would learn because it seems it is the only thing that will teach them and maybe finally get them to fix this game and make it good.

I would also probably file a Class Action lawsuit because not putting out anymore content updates in an online game is clearly "bait and switch" and fraud. I looked it up on the internet somewhere and read it and plus my dad is a lawyer so I know what I am talking about.
This thread just got real, yo.

It's not my comment, I liked DB on my stalker a LOT. I do feel it may very well be some of that "common knowledge" that keeps people from taking it as a primary though - you know, that sort of "common knowledge" that still tells us that stalkers are useless, 'we need a healer!' and so on.

Or for all I know people don't feel their brute is "brute-y" enough if he's not pounding people with their fists. I will be the first to admit that I find the mind of a brute sort of murky and remote from my own.
  12. I'm sure they probably do exist out there, but I can't recall seeing too many Dual Blade brutes, certainly none above 20 or so. I made one the other day and then thought I might check the brute forums for some advice on the set (seeing how I've only played it on a stalker before). Not one thread in the first two pages mentioned it, but I did see lots about Stone armor and one or two other primaries/secondaries.

I'm sure this is due to the resisted damage. Personally I could give a rat's scab about worrying about numbers, I do not play this game to serious business my fun time.
  13. Daaannng, now I wanna Bats/Tarp MM.

    DEVS! GET TO IT!!

That just tells you that you didn't want to play on that team anyways. Anyone who'd turn down either of those ATs for AoE farming is down right ignorant; why waste the time finding out what other (possibly harmful) ways they're ignorant in as well?

  16. Not to sound snarky, but have you searched the MA for "VEAT" yet?

I can understand that you might have wanted to ask here though as we probably have a good concentration of story-fans.

  18. Back when I finally got my stalker to 50 - my first and so far only 50 villain - one of the things I did with her was take her into the Monster Island zone off Grandville and look around. It was of course empty and that felt like a real shame, but something about it felt different, starting with the fishing Arachnos guy on the sub.

It also felt something of a shame there wasn't more to see in there, but it was still quite fun, I think I was in there for over an hour; stalkers are of course the best toon for this. I'd love to see them introduce something in there to encourage people to team and monster fight or something, anything. I once was on a team where we went and did that but we weren't quite high enough level to take anything down so that didn't last long.

(yes yes, I know, "form your own team!")
  19. I have to admit I'm getting kind of excited for this issue; every time I log in and see that it's not downloading "the new issue" (rather than say just any ol' patch), I feel a bit let down.

To pass the time, I've been working on a new AE arc, one that - as luck would have it - won't be hit by the XP nerf as it uses no custom mobs other than placed bosses. I really hope I get it done before the new issue comes out, because I have a lot of alts to get to the tailor when it does. I can imagine the tailors are going to be very crowded too...

I've frequently stumbled across some great combos by hitting the random button, things that you can then dump the rest of it and work from there with. Granted, it takes about fifteen tries, but...
  21. I actually don't seem to have much that I abuse. My toons tend to follow their own pretty tight theme or concept and that always ends up dictating what I'll be using for their costume.

About the only thing I can say I use often is all the glasses and goggles options under one of those "Details" on the Head section. I've made tons and tons of toons and only a few of them don't have something that's not goggles or glasses. Those that don't use them tend to have some sort of marking around thier eyes from the Face section, like "X Eyes" (a personal fave).

I dunno why but most toons with just some normal-joe face strikes me as boring, even if they have green skin or something.
  22. "You can't see me, I'm invisible!"

    "Worst. Stalker. Ever."
  23. Here's an oddball question for you.

When you put a boss fight in an arc, you write in dialog they say as their health drops to 3/4, 1/2, 1/4 and so on. If the fight drags on or you run for a few and the boss starts to regen, does he respeak those lines as his health recrosses those boundaries? Say you've beaten the boss down to just under 1/2, and then regens to above 1/2, does he say the line again? I seem to recall that if they regen up and then you beat them down again they do it when they're beaten back down to the defined quarter (3/4, 1/2 etc.); in other words they repeat it on the way back down, but not back up.

Can anyone confirm this for me? I just don't play arcs all that often enough to know for sure one way or another.

Oh, ok. I will agree that they could use some more, but I kind of like the watermelon rifle. :3
  25. My DB got by ok with only sweep and whatever combo that is that you get with the usual BU+AS, I think it was something like Power Up or Weaken? Vital Strike is useful for good damage. After that I dunno because I never used any other, although yeah, 1KCuts is like its own great combo, skipping that would be silly.
