Quote:No, it is all supposed to be about giant raids of 222 nameless and faceless partners against the uber giant villain of supreme giant of evil...The Summer Event really drives home how fun four-player teams can be and serves as a good test case for developing more four player-oriented trials and task forces.
I agree completely.
So very this:

Quote:My SR/StJ tank did this over the weekend. +1/xSomething? can't remember what I was running at.Have anyone soloed this mission? I tried, with my inv/energy tank but those groups of Talons do a lot of damage. I took out a group of monsters... I used Nemesis Staff, Blackwand, and Laser Eye.
Just wondering if anyone done it... if so what AT and powers....
I clicked the completed button hoping for a badge, I should have knew that would not work.... oh well :P -
Quote:I haven't played a lot lately, so perception comparison grain of salt up front.Anyone notice that mobs seem to run away... ALOT. Been playing my crab since I12 launch and it seems like just about everything runs and its quite annoying.
EDIT--- This happened when I was fighting scrapyarder as well... Basically he ran instantly.
Played this weekend, on a teens Dark/Fire Dom. I was often leading with my ST confuse... and the mob hit would frequently just immediately turn and run for the hills. It struck me as odd, and not at all something I remembered. -
There was zippo for Han/Leia romance in movie one. There was Luke/Leia romantic tease. Pretending otherwise is... well, to my way of thinking a waste of time and not really a valid position to make... any sort of point, really.

Quote:Fair enough, I was probably reading too much into your comment then, hence my opinion reminder. Purely comprehension fault on this end.I know, and I respect that. I also think I made clear that everything *I* said is my, personal opinion. And for that reason isn't the same as others.
I never said it was a bad article, I only said it bothered me.
Quote:that if you introduce someone to Star Wars you don't even show them all the movies.
I would then live for years in disappointment that IV-VI are viewed poorly by the modern generation for looking like low budget junk by modern standards, but with pride that I in no way need to point out the flaws of I-III. -
-
Quote:Just to clarify, a "bad article" could indeed be a "bad article". But, it is only his opinion offered for review. And is as worthy as any other for consideration in the larger discussion.I usually try to avoid posting in forums other than the costume redesign thread, but this article... bothers me.
First of all, yes, many people dislike jar-jar binks. But if you think that ruins the entire first movie...
My opinion is that first Star Wars movies (IV-VI) were never "great films" (aside from ground breaking usage of special effects) but they were great story telling. My personal opinion puts me in the camp that believes that I-III were bad story telling, packaged in movies of exceptional production value. And there are many, many reasons to think this that have absolutely nothing to do with Jar-Jar.
(Wish I had the time to go look up the youtube link of a guy walking through a script rewrite of Episode I that would have made it brilliant...) -

Quote:For 'olde-time's sake' you may find some takers, and I wish you luck. I am sure it would be a fun little event.Sooo I'm an old player whose recently become new due to the massive changes in this game. I do enjoy them(yay power customization! this was like on the to do list for ages) and can't really find any bad things except for the bizarre constant use of DFBs and even those are fun.
Now for the actual reason for this post. I was hoping beyond hope that someone somewhere (by someone I mean 7 other people) would want to go sewer diving like back in the day. For some reason that's the only thing I constantly miss. So does anyone want to go sewer diving for 12 lvls and pop up in a random zone and do missions? It's not just for fun either. A good 5 or 6 exploration badges are down there and it's pretty easy to get the Vahizlok, Hellions, and Lost badges after fighting them for an entire night. Maybe we can get 7 rpers and start a lil' ol' rp sg like they used to do at low levels. Anyone remember that? Just me? K...just checking...*looks embarrassed*
Also the fact that I have to structure this instead of just starting one in the server does strike me as ironic (was that the right use of the word?).
(But, just in case you were not yet aware, the classic Sewer runs were pretty firmly put to rest by the new DfB Trial. Most newer players probably have never set foot in the real sewers, and may not even know they exist. (Which probably explains why using the forums would make sense to try and organize it over in game.)) -
Quote:It doesn't matter, and it is just what they said/assumed anyway. You know... the original was pretty awful, too.
"There can be only one!" --- ummm.... why? Magic? Science? Aliens? Plotholism?
Was there any doubt that the protagonist would be 'the one'?
Fine film. Fine, fine low budget film. -
Ah, well.
If there needs to be a space combat suit movie, I'd rather someone try their hand at John Steakley's "Armor", but "Starship Troopers" gets all the raves so not real surprised. -
Quote:Given the current active US military research projects on combat armor and hydraulic assisted soldier mobility... I wouldn't rule it out for the US either. The US military would also dearly love a practical, cost-effective legged vehicle, and have been researching the idea since the 1960's. Admittedly, they mostly have in mind off-road transport vehicles rather than sword-wielding giant soldiers.

Quote:pfah. Is it perfect irony? No, but there remains at some level irony. Why is that ironic? The operators of the game can do all sorts of things we aren't allowed to do. That would be like saying its ironic that Paragon Studios encourages players to pay for subscriptions when all its employees get one for free.
Its ironic that irony is the word most ironically misused.
Our general direction: "You may not compare here."
The specific direction: "Go there and compare."
We are presented with a defined substance of allowed behavior within these boards that is then contradicted by direct instruction from within the same boards.
And 'their rules on the boards' is handwavium.
I remain amused, but it is also no more significant than that. -
Quote:Fair enough. The thing is, Hit Streak didn't do a compare or contrast thread.
He posted a link to a Leaderboard article on another site where they pit our costume creator against those from two other MMO's. He didn't even say what MMO's or if they are in the same genre as CoH.
Of course, those of us that have been to the site know that they are in the same genre and are indeed CO and DCUO, but Hit Streak didn't compare or contrast either game with ours, or even the costume creators in the games.
He merely mentioned a site running a poll and suggested we go there vote for CoH: Freedom.
However, Hit Streak's link does directly promote comparison - voting inheritly implies comparison/contrast.
And, if a thread devoted to making explicit comparisons and contrasts of the three editors at issue was started, I predict it would be shutdown quickly. But, by all means go vote, we are encouraged... It remains an ironic contrast, in my mind. -
Quote:yeah, the irony of self-promotion through comparison when we can't compare is somewhat tasty.Although it's lame that 'compare/contrast' threads are only BADDY BAD BAD when players post them.
You know I didn't greatly miss the comparison discussions until recently when I began perusing another game's boards that allows them, and I realized they can add a lot of value to understanding and enjoyment of what the game offers.
Oh, and voted for CoH...
It is cluttered and unwieldy these days due to all the many options, even if it is the best. I agree on the redesign need. -
Finally got around to seeing this.
Fine film, worthy within the franchise.
And I totally do not understand the claims of retcon to the alien biology or how the goo doesn't fit. Made perfect sense to me, and fit nicely.
edit: there were some plot holes, however, such as the getting lost/left behind, running in a line away from the crash, and how the small hugger grew to such a great size without any material/energy in particular. nothing drastic, though. -
I've actually been pretty impressed with the speed to get this out. Given that the Pummit was in November, I can't figure how 7 months became longer than a year...
-
Quote:I actually read this the first time as you asking for Arcanaville's picture to be included in the UI...I think the important take way here is that once Arcanaville posts her picture, can we please get these options into the Options menu rather than from a stupid NPC located in one zone? Please? And put the difficulty sliders in the Options menus too, while you are there.

Still looking forward to the film myself - maybe this weekend.
Quote:Cameron fell into it when? If you mean Avatar, he planned sequels before the first was done, so not sure that is a far comparison, exactly. Peter Jackson attempted to stay out of the Hobbit (assuming that's what you mean), but took over only when the other director pulled out...I am actually a bit disappointed that Scott elected to revisit the Alien setting intstead of exploring something creatively new. It is the George Lucas "I must explore my created universe!" ego trap. Cameron has fallen into it, as has Peter Jackson. It is sad how short the journey from auteur to institution seems to be. At least Chris Nolan knows enough to disconnect from Batman after three films, and Guillermo del Toro seems to be stretching his legs a bit with Pacific Rim.
Lucas remains in a class by himself. -
When it is well crafted, I agree completely.

Quote:We have had this argument. I feel, firmly, that they failed a well crafted and nuanced start by turning it into a cliched mess.If it's cobbled, then it's extremely well polished, joined-up and consistent cobbling
Quote:Both of which they did at a higher level of quality than anything previously done in the game.
No, you are about as juiced up on enriche as you can get. -
Quote:*le sigh*"Cobbled-together blah blah blah" is, of course, in no way one of those "opinion" things that you hold in such sneering contempt.
I was offering a countering opinion, as a tool to emphasize that the previous statement was indeed an opinion and not a universal fact.
I sneer not. Neither opinion is 'wrong', just not the undeniable force of nature as one is sometimes portrayed.
Where did I say rushed?
Quote:And it's totlaly not cobbled together - they work several Issues in advance, and GR was created along with the Praetorian war storyline - when they were working on the Precinct 5 tutorial, they knew that Tyrant and the loyalists were going to be defeated at the climax of the story.
Knowing the completion and telling a story that was compelling are two differen things.
