Quote:You get the mutant pack?I discovered an interesting glitch in the costume creator today. I was toying around with a new costume and decided to give the toon a jacket. Under the glove selection it had Monstrous 3 times and one of them gave this result:

I think its pretty groovy!

That was a bug in beta for it. -

Quote:Sadly, the label may be appropriate. Players can pick and choose any powers they wish. They are not there to please you, they are playing to please themselves. When I invite a Kin, I expect SB. When I invite a Mastermind, I expect pets. When I invite a VEAT, I expect team defense buffs. If your going to make some jacked up build, you have every right to, but atleast put it in your search comments that you have skipped your most essential powers. I'm tired of being labeled the jerk because I kick these people from my team, but unless you have a good team with all good players, a Widow with no defense buffs is a liability.
And kicking them without even trying first?
To be blunt, this game is easily fun enough as it is (too many people play x4, x5, x6, x7, or x8 solo at all level ranges enough to prove that). It is just silly to be worried about what crutches team mates bring to you.
Quote:I will also pretend I didn't see the comment about Kin and SB lol. :P
Quote:No it's really not subjective.
The tactical training powers available to VEATs form the core of what those classes can provide to the team as well as providing their own personal survival, increased damage and ability to hit.
If you've skipped those powers on a VEAT, you either have no idea about game mechanics or have willingly chosen to not provide yourself or your team with a MASSIVE survivability and performance increase.
Quote:Don't get me wrong, I do all those things. I explain to them in PMs that they are skipping powers that severely limit thier effectivness and contribution to the team, and if I kick them I explain nicely why I have to. It doesn't matter in most cases. They get offended and resort to name calling like many folks on this forum. -
Quote:Yes, that about sums it up. I also love knowing that I have all the attention I can collect and hold on to it as fiercely and actively as I can. And no matter what happens on a team, the compliments when I tank well always feel better than when I play on any other AT (not sure why exactly). For me, it still is about feeling super. In fact, it's about feeling outright awesome. I've termed myself an "aggroholic," though I doubt I'm the first person to think of that term. I'm always actively seeking larger groups of stronger enemies. If I don't have to keep a finger on my Dark Regeneration bind, what we're fighting isn't tough enough. It makes me feel awesome to know that what I'm up against should be able to kill me, but can't.
That's not all of it, though. By being able to keep all that attention, I'm letting an entire team of people be awesome. Everyone can go full bore with their attacks and not worry about return fire. That makes me feel awesome.
Anyway, blasters, scrappers, dominators, corruptors,... All fun, but I keep logging on my tanks to feel immortal - and by being so the rest of my team is too. -
Ridiculous

oh, and

I got this too. My existing costume was monstrous gloves, and could not find a new texture option for them. I switch to plain/smooth and made some adjustment. I opened the options again and had three monstrous listings. I selected one, the left hand was visible - monstrous with bioluminate texture. The right hand was missing.
-
Subjective:
The wings are awesome.
Bioluminate is very nice, shame that the back of the head has such a specific match to the chest selection, though. The Biolum face is excellent.
Did I miss an organic armor belt option?
Very disappointed that monstrous gloves and leg options are not compatible with the new pieces. -
Subjective:
The change emotes are fantastic! All of them. Gonna be using those, no doubt about it.
Growl is... cute I suppose.
Showoff is a fine emote, but in no way at all makes me even think I may at some undefined point in the future possibly think about mutation. -
I have seen these behaviors, but oddly as soon as it starts I leave whatever WW/BM contact I am working with and move to the next one over... and it cooperates fine most of the time.
If it starts up again later, I move over, and its usually fine. -
<snark>
Because the first serious attempt to move the story telling forward is going to get it 'right' the first time?
</snark>
It is still a step forward, even acknowledging that I may be thinking something is better than telling me endlessly what everyone around me is always thinking. Which is one of my great gripes about many of the arcs I've played so many times. I recognize that it could be better, but I am so pleased at the 'progress over perfection' that I still grade it well.
And branching is coming, right? Isn't that seemingly a big part of the GR promise - good vs. evil choices? And, I consider the doppleganger arcs the practice. GR should improve, or my grading won't be on a curve anymore. -
I was at work and couldn't see the thing that wasn't to be seen, so I didn't.
I got home from work and looked for the thing that now couldn't be found.
I instead found that I was sad. -
Quote:I'm going to have to guess its the "Fool" card? Unable to control their toons and the -neg whatever that is attached to it would be my guess. Now my search-fu is weak but i thought i remember a redname saying "turning off player buffs wasnt an option"...if thats the case send in your pm and move along...or grab your picket sign and prepare for the coming stormQuote:One guy in this thread felt that even the "minor graphics" ruined some screen shots he was taking. I'm not in that camp, myself, but I can see why some people might be bothered by things like that.
OK, I understand the complaint now, at least. Not sure I agree, but I'm not confused, so I call that progress. -
Quote:If you had another character with shiver to compare with the specific one you've experienced so far... or if someone else uses shiver in your LOS, that may be helpful testing also.I played my ice dominator last night. I used shiver many times. My computer didn't crash (I think I turned down the particle count). It's possible that certain faulty hardware caused the crash, and somehow shiver seems to trigger it. However, if you think that the fault is not on your side, you can do some more systemic testing. For example, play other toons instead of your ice blaster to see if it crashes after a day. If you can find a target that you can just use shiver on it the whole night, it would be informative to know if crashes will occur.

I'm confused (and maybe I missed it scanning the posts).
What is wrong with the MF buffs? They are lite on the gfx and for the most part are a minor adjustment at best. -
Quote:I can accept that.Actually the rule was in place before the suit...which is why they had a leg to stand on when defending themselves.
But the fierce enforcement followed the Marvel issues, however, right? Or I am just mis-remembering it all?
Oh, and on topic, I wish the the updated GR info was loading properly for me here at work during my self appointed random break time. -
Quote:It was Marvel that went after CoH for just this sort of thing, hence the rules we have today. And yet, if I make a character with the name Wolverine, make a girl who stands 6ft tall, carries a sword and is Invulnerable. I' can't use the name at all. :/
Or in reverse...similar (but different) outfit, different powers and bio, genericed. Seems a bit wrong to me.
(Just saying - lets keep blame in the right place.)

I wish that was true, but my feeling and understanding is that it is exactly as I made it sound. They joke about it now, but clown sets were a regular request for a while until it was unequivocally squashed.

Some good ideas here. I thought I'd highlight the ones that resonated with me.
Quote:Totally cool idea. This scale of effort would keep each change manageable as a block of design work and real cities are patchwork, so it would transition into something that felt more organic. Here's my suggestion that can help gradually improve the overall quality of the look of the game: Every issue, devote enough time to overhaul one or two building's worth of textures to modern standards. The amount of repeat usage we see across all zones would create a wide-reaching effect without a ridiculous amount of effort. Yes, it would look a little patchwork.
Quote:Building-wise, I think the one thing I'd really like to see is more unique structures.
Quote:More strip malls, free standing restaurants, drive-thru fast food joints, grocery stores, supercenters, movie theaters, gas stations.
More possibilities could be schools, bars, hotels, etc
And, given time, these could work their way into instance maps and storylines.
Quote:All of the doors are the same on every building, no matter what style of architecture. That's just so wrong. Different styles of buildings should have different kinds of doors. The doors that are in-game now are perfect for the small shops, but they're wrong for all of the other building styles.
Quote:Somebody just mentioned "suburbs" and that rang a bell with me. I've often thought about how it would be interesting to have a "suburban" zone (or sub-zone), with cookie-cutter houses and cul-de-sacs, that was crawling with super-powered villains or invaded by Rikti.
Regardless, a less urban living area would be nice to see. -

Often suggested and discussed.
In short: Positron hates clowns and has made it abundantly clear 'never gonna happen' -
Quote:I concede that is a nice set of counter points.I've got a mutant who uses a shield. Superstrength without invulnerability.
I've got a Science character who uses a shield. Super Serum gave her borderline super-human strength and toughness, but the shield keeps her safe.
My Boyfriend has a magic shield user. His shield is part of a mystical set of armor which grants protection.
A Friend of mine has a tech character using the Talsorian Shield. It's a robot who uses the shield to protect it's more vital circuitry.
Many different backgrounds work with Shields, not just natural or just science or just whatever.
By the same token a Demon Summoner could be a high tech illusionist using hard light constructs to terrify and fight against criminals, or steal from them. But the set still has an incredibly -mystical- feel.
Sooo yeah. Your argument that the set is tied too closely to a specific definition of the power is overruled by the fact that ALL SETS are tied to a specific definition of the power. I want Rainbow Blast, but the closest I can get is Energy Blast. Is my definition too tight or is Energy Blast's too loose? Of course it's not too loose. It's a specific definition of the power set/source. This set is also not directly tied to origin, unlike Demon Summoning.
You -can- make it less tied, but it seems... weak.
I am not sure I see how Demon Summoning is any more constrained than soldiers, ninjas, or high-tech robots. Using your same approach, I could be a scientist that has discovered a proper mix of chemicals and sound vibrations that open a portal to...
Quote:Without descriptions of the power animations, you really can't judge whether it's tied to a specific concept or not.
But, back to the neg rep comment, I can easily see why it was made in initial reaction. -
The jump/wiggle approach has generally worked for me, but this idea is genius and I'm embarassed I didn't think of it.
