My thoughts are to re-confirm your villian/hero status for 1 merit each time. This takes two days (5 tips per day + morality). Spend 2 merits for a Miricle+, LOTG 7.5, Numina+, etc. and sell. Rinse and repeat. This is not an instant purple every day of course, but the system is not meant to be fast..hence the word rare.
I have casual player friends. They play maybe one day a week for 3 hours. They love the game and get very discouraged that they can not properly pimp out a toon. Even buying a Mako set is out of reach at times for them. No easy answers for this type of scenerio though. Maybe that is why gagora and such stay in business???
The first one I ever got was like $130 for a billion.

I know EXACTLY who this person is and which SG they are. They are notorious on Virtue as a prestige farming SG. I feel very sorry for any player who gets entangled with them. While I won't out them here on the forums, I'm more than happy to tell who this person is and their SG either in game or in PMs to anyone who asks. They are the worst of the worst.
What's worse is that the player in question plays a herding fire tank who has to telegraph directions that they are going to herd to this spot on every single spawn. Not a good player. Not a good person and a piss poor SG.
I've had several friends suckered by this person with team invites, only to boot them when this person discovered they either had a SG or wouldn't join his grind-prestige-or-die SG. Their reputation on Virtue server is beyond bad, and it's only the forum rules that prevents them from being outed. -
