Quote:First of all, I used $100 as a base, because you can't really find a video card that will reliably run video games any cheaper than that, and there was a plus sign next to it for a reason. My card cost about $300 when I bought it, and it's devalued to about $200 now, but that's still money I can't afford to chunk in the trashcan. It WAS constructive. More people would be insulted if I assumed everyone couldn't afford it.
...also, $100 is usually a garbage card. I usually buy a $500+ card every 3 to 5 years.
Nvidia has been the king of OpenGL performance since the 3DFX days. I've had both and after constantly reading about the problems the drivers cause, I think jumping ship is pretty sound advice. No need to attack me or get defensive!
I certainly can't afford a $500+ video card. I'd heavily wager that the majority of CoH players can't either; many have families to feed, the economy is crap, and dropping any amount of money on an already working computer sounds like a fool's errand to someone with no real technical background.
As someone with a technical background but limited finances, I generally buy a graphics card that's about 3 generations from the top ($150-200) every two years, and I'd still count that as unusual for the playerbase here. I splurged when I got into the Issue 17 closed beta and bought a Radeon 5800 for close to $300, but that also happened to be right after my birthday and the stars just happened to align that I could get away with the expense without having to sacrifice anything else at the time.
And let's not forget that early last year, Nvidia published a bad driver set that accidentally disabled the cooling fans on their graphics cards and caused them to burn out. A Radeon card was the obvious choice for me at the time.
TL;DR: Jumping ship just isn't an option for those who've made a significant investment, whether you find that dollar amount to be significant or not. You are being an Nvidia fanboy in an ATI thread, and it's neither helpful, necessary nor appreciated. -
Reinstalling the game shouldn't be necessary, though verifying the files couldn't hurt.
It could be a graphics card issue (not showing the pop-up windows correctly). Have you updated/changed/reinstalled drivers for your graphics card recently? -
Got one more, but I'm not sure if this one is used or not. If it works for you, it's yours:
Edit: Claimed, sorry. -
Quote:There was a redname post to the effect a couple weeks ago, you'll be fine. I'll see if I can dig it up for you real quick.I'm very much hoping you two are correct in your assertion of when the point allowance is disbursed, I just wouldn't assume it....never assume ( ' ;
Edit: Can't find it, too much communication to sift through since Freedom was announced. While the level of communication is, of course, amazingly awesome, it does make it hard to pinpoint specific posts.

Alright, the people who were complaining that they specifically couldn't get a facepalm code didn't reply to my PMs, so I guess they weren't that interested after all.
Anybody else who wants one and is having trouble getting it, send me a PM. I have an extra, and it goes to the first person who asks for it. -

Tex, "billing cycle" means the day of the month that your subscription starts/ends. Even if you do a multi-month subscription, the money you give them goes into a pool that gets pulled from automatically every month on that day.
So you'll still get your points every month on the day that you would currently be awarded Vet Rewards (only, every month instead of every 3 months). -
Quote:Ahhhhhh, thanks for the clarification. The earlier announcement made it sound like we'd be getting BOTH up front. As of now, the current plan is for you to receive all of your TOKENS up front however your PARAGON POINTS will be doled out each month on your billing cycle.
Now, if one has a multi-month subscription BEFORE CoH Freedom launches, will they get all their Reward Tokens at launch, or will they come per-month until their next subscription period starts? -
Quote:Nothing that hasn't happened to them already. If they still show up in your SG roster, then they're not going anywhere.Question: I have three "filler" accounts. I used them to fill small SGs so that I would have more Prestige to start with. Each account is at 0 or 1 Vet Rewards badges. When Freedom goes live, what happens to the filler characters in those SGs?
If you haven't deleted them, then they'll still be there if you ever decide to load up that account again.
Now, you'll be limited in the number of characters you'll have available if you don't re-subscribe with them, but the characters themselves won't be deleted. A Premium account starts with two free character slots (total, not per server) and also gets a number of extra character slots equal to the number of bonus slots (beyond the standard 12 per server for a subscriber) that you have earned or purchased, to be used on any server or combination of servers (except the VIP server) as you see fit, up to the maximum per server. Any characters that you don't have enough slots to unlock will remain there, greyed out, until you either re-subscribe or purchase more character slots and unlock them again. -
It also leaves out Endurance Modification DOs, but sure enough, they're available once you get high enough for SOs.
I found out about this about a month back while levelling a lowbie through AE content.
Edit: Sorry, missed that you mentioned End Mod in your last sentence. Read the whole post before replying, Chad... -
Quote:They're largely populated by people who don't read the forums, and their capacity to answer questions is dependent on what the marketing department will let them say. There's also the fact that people keep asking the same questions with slightly different wording and get frustrated when Beastyle or Zwillinger don't address them specifically with a response, despite having already answered the same question three times in that session. These Facebook Q&As are a real disappointment. They won't answer any questions that haven't already been answered many times before.
I did talk to Z a bit at Comic Con, and he said that a lot of times the long space in between their posts on Facebook during these events is because they're awaiting authorization as to how specific an answer they're allowed to give. And that's if they're allowed to answer it at all; otherwise you get the canned response, "We'll be discussing that in more detail in the coming weeks."
It's one of the reasons that I and other similarly-minded people try to jump in and answer the "easy" questions; the more of those that can get batted away, the more new questions we can get answered. -
Quote:Correct. The "powers" that are locked off behind Tier 9 VIP will continue to be things similar in magnitude to the existing Vet Rewards, like the Nemesis Staff/Blackwand choice, Buff Pets, Assemble the Team, etc. None of the powers earned through Paragon Rewards will be game-changing, because that would defeat the point of having them as bonuses; they'd be the goal of every player to achieve, and the game would shift from being "Free To Play" into "Pay To Win," which would cause a hemorrhage of free players and lower-tiered subscribers alike.Ah, all that stuff is fluff though. New powersets aren't part of the tiers.
And putting an entire powerset behind that barrier would just be an awful business move--Paragon Rewards are a bonus that's part of a subscription or for every $15 worth of monetary transactions you make towards Paragon Points. Rewarding veterans thusly might make them happy, but it would peeve off the lower-tiered subscribers and will ultimately put less money in Paragon Studios' coffers than if they just offered it for purchase in the Paragon Market... and putting them in the Market for everyone to buy is exactly what they're going to do. -
Quote:That's also because it wasn't supposed to be announced yet; there was a bit of a snafu as to what the author of a recent Massively.com article could talk about, and he mentioned Titan Weapons (though not by name), so they had to do a quick announcement the next day.I don't recall and official answer on Titan Weapons which makes sense since it's a post Issue 21 powerset.
But you are correct, the developers have not specifically said whether it would be free to VIPs or require additional purchase... though the Massively.com article said that it would be available through the store, so I'm inclined to believe it'll cost extra. -
Quote:http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...61#post3756161With all due respect, all of these responses are purely speculation; I'm looking for redname clarification on this issue lol.
Quote:Street Justice and Beam Rifle are Premium Powersets, and all players will need to purchase them to unlock them on their account (similar to how we had locked powersets behind the purchase of Going Rogue).
Between not looking it up yourself and ignoring those who answer your questions with phrases like "with all due respect" and "lol"ing at them just shows that you lack respect for them at all and that you aren't worth the time it takes to answer your questions.
So congratulations, you don't have to worry about me answering your questions instead of a redname anymore. -
Quote:No, the new powersets (Street Justice, Beam Rifle, and eventually Titan Weapons) will need to be purchased by everybody, be they a VIP subscriber or a Free or Premium player.Well I asked - TWICE - about whether or not the new powersets (excluding time manipulation) would be restricted to those with T9 only, and no answer, so that pretty much confirms it as far as I'm concerned.
They will be in no way tied to Veteran/Paragon Reward status. -
Well, the "new consumeables" are the same ones that you'd purchase through the store using real money. The "old consumeables," like the recent reward that gave you 5 charges of patrol XP, will remain global.
I don't know specifically about respecs--I didn't think to check that at Comic Con--but since they're account-wide now, I don't see why they wouldn't be in CoH Freedom. -
Quote:I believe that specifically refers to the repeatable Tier 9 rewards (not Tier 9 VIP), which are consumeable (limited use) items such as enhancement boosters and unslotters, etc.Bummer. I kind of figured it might be the case, but I must admit I am not happy about it. The fact that the Vet rewards applied to every character I made was an important feature of the program. I am saddened it is being altered for some of the newer reward choices.
Everything else I can remember from the Comic Con build was global like the existing vet rewards, and the Celestial stuff for Tier 9 VIP was global as well. -
Pretty sure you'll be able to Ouroboros the old missions, but I didn't specifically try during my limited play time there.
Those were Praetorians, and the sorceress you noted is the Praetorian War Witch (Sorceress Serenity, I think?). -
-
"Too much cool stuff in the store" isn't a terrible problem to have, Jaz.
I'm definitely buying Street Justice as soon as it's available (even if I have to pay a little cash for it instead of just using my free points), and will probably buy any interesting costume items as they appear as well. -
Ran around for a bit with 11.7 installed today, including looking through Ouroboros contacts (something that would always crash the game on previous driver sets). So far, everything is very stable, and I might just be imagining it, but I think it may actually be playing a little smoother to boot.
The real test will be when I get some actual game time in this weekend, running missions and trials and what-not. -
Or defense-based sets like SR to not get the crap kicked out of them by absolutely everything prior to getting Elude or good IO sets.
-
Does it work if you (temporarily, of course) disable your firewall and/or antivirus software?
If so, you'll need to add CoH to your exemption list. I can't remember ALL the programs to do so with (there are at least two, if not more), but CityofHeroes.exe is the obvious one.
