Look. Like I said before, I get where this is coming from. And it's cute... in the same sort of way as a kid who's been told he can't have a cookie trying to sneak half of one out of the jar.
But it's not going to happen.
    No melee characters with pistols.
It's been asked for more times than I can count over the years (sometimes by me), and every time the Devs have said no. Every time.
Give it up already. You're wasting your time. You're wasting their time.
I'm only barely invested in this argument, but I think you misread the words of the developers. After all, you can, as of this beta test, now have a character that swings Dual Pistols around in a crazy gun-fu sort of way, and then turn around and use an Energy Melee attack to punch a dude in the face. By the logic you're following, there is zero difference in punching a dude in the face with an energy fist versus kicking them in the face with a martial arts strike, because you're a pistol user that also does melee attacks.

What the developers have said many times (and I fully agree with them) is that melee classes will not get Dual Pistols.

A lot of people were specifically asking for Dual Pistols to be given to Scrappers. This is an awful idea. Every time someone in this thread tries to suggest their amended version of the Martial Manipulation/Training/Whatever powerset and add in a defensive toggle or self heal from the Stalker Ninjutsu set, I facepalm myself and then utter a quick curse of carpal tunnel syndrome so they'll quit typing garbage.

But there is no reason there shouldn't be a Martial Arts-styled secondary for Blasters. They honestly should have had one when the game came out. They had energy punches, fire punches, electric punches, ice punches and... gadgets. They also already had a Martial Arts set for Scrappers to use, with plenty of secondary effects to make an effective Blaster secondary through the varied use of stuns, knockback and knockdowns. Add in a couple other powers that aren't specifically defense-oriented (as Ransim has done with Caltrops and Blinding Power), and you've got a set that theoretically performs on par with all the others while bringing a much-needed Natural Origin flair to the Blaster secondaries, to pair up with Assault Rifle and Dual Pistols.

That's what this is about. It's not about smacking people with pistols (for the same reason there's no Shield Melee powerset)--it's about allowing players to make a Natural-themed Blaster without also forcing them to be a gadget user.

Here's the kicker (no pun intended): at the very beginning, when I said I'm only barely invested in this? That's because I don't play Blasters. I would very likely never use the set, but I can see how other people would be attracted to it, and also that it can be balanced and cobbled together from existing powers which would thus require much less developer time (not going to estimate how much, because then I'd make Castle and Synapse facepalm ). Sometimes a good idea is just a good idea, whether it affects you or not.

If no new badges were added to the game and you could get everything by side-switching in Going Rogue, the total would be 846 (not counting Bug Hunter or Passport). That does include Accolades, assuming we can get the other side's badges even though we know we can't double dip in the powers.

I doubt it needs to be said again that no one on this side of the game knows for sure what limitations will be placed on badging for the other side; it might hide the badges that can't traditionally be earned by the faction you just joined until you return to your original faction. We just don't know.

Of course, there will be new badges. Enough to push the total up to 1000? Probably not, but here's to hoping!

This, entirely. Why do people keep trying to stuff defensive powers and self heals into this proposed set? Devices' Cloaking Device give a very minor defensive buff, less even than you would get for taking Maneuvers (and is mainly only there because stealth is so important in the history of device using comic book characters).

Seriously, Ransim's original post is the best idea I've seen in the whole thread. It just needs to have Caltrops and Focus Chi swapped around (since Build Up powers always come in at 16*).

*Except in Energy Manipulation, where honestly I've always felt it comes too soon.

I also did like Twelfth's idea for the "Bola Snare" ranged immobilize power as the level 1 power, but I don't think the set would suffer without it.
  5. I'm all for the idea, but I worry about the idea of creating a new set specifically to go with natural-styled primaries that would continue to enforce weapon redraw as the norm.

I know BABs has been doing some work on eliminating said redraw, but the last he mentioned, the method he'd worked out was a no-go. I'm sure he'll continue to work on it when he has time (or heck, perhaps he already has), but without further communication in regards to weapon redraw, I'm very wary.

I've long hoped that they'd be working on Pistol Assault simultaneously with the Dual Pistols set, which would include a combination of Dual Pistol attacks with a Martial Arts kick or two, as well as a "pistol whip" melee attack and a crouching, spinning, short-range "shoot them in the knees" knockdown attack.

Just kidding, I was planning on doing it anyway... >_>
  7. I generally install the CPU and heatsink prior to mounting the mobo in the case. Some after market fans require brackets that affix to the back of the motherboard, and I've had more than a few runs where I've screwed down the motherboard, then had to undo it to get the heatsink on. Motherboards usually come in static-resistant bags, so you can rest the board on that while doing the first couple steps.

Once you've got the heatsink installed, you can screw down the motherboard and pretty much install everything else in any order.

According to the very first post in this thread, they don't. A GeForce 9800GT is required for the minimum features of Ultra Mode.

You might be able to run it on the lowest settings with a ridiculous amount of lag or something.
  9. If worse comes to worst, you don't even have to enable Ultra Mode. You can keep playing the game exactly the way you see it right now.

Everything they've told us about Ultra Mode says it is completely optional.
  10. Instead of trying to download the whole thing when installing, try the steps I mentioned here:
    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...40#post2605540

Let it use the files you've already got installed as a starting point for patching, rather than having to download 3+ Gigabytes of data that's already on your machine.
  11. I don't get off until 6:30 Eastern, and even then Wednesdays are my busy night.
  12. The super easy way to get the Test Server set up is to copy the City of Heroes launcher shortcut that you have on your desktop. (Rename the link something like "CoH Test Server" so you know which is which.) Right click on the copy, and select Properties. For the line where it lists the link to the program, encapsulate the whole thing in quotes and add -test to the end. It should look like this if you've installed it to your default location:
    "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CoHUpdater.exe" -test

Hit OK to accept the changes, then double click the shortcut. It will ask if you want to install the CoH test client, and let you pick where you want to install it to (default is "C:\Program Files\CoHTest\"). Let it begin the install, but when it begins to download things, immediately cancel out.

Navigate to your City of Heroes install directory (default "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\") and hit Ctrl+A to select everything. Copy everything in the directory.

Navigate to your CoHTest install directory, and paste the contents of your CoH directory there.

Go back to your CoH Test Server shortcut and run it again. It will do a repair (takes no more than a few minutes) and then only download the updates beyond what is available on the live servers.

This will save you several hours and a lot of bandwidth.

(Just to make it extra-easy to differentiate between the two shortcuts at a glance, I also changed my CoH Test Server shortcut to have the City of Villains logo as an icon. )

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking. Are you asking if you'll be required to switch your 50 Hero to a Villain in order to make a VEAT? Well, you shouldn't need to do that--they're lowering the EAT unlocking requirements to level 20 in Issue 17, due out in April. Going Rogue is set to be released in July.

As far as creating a brand new EAT character, no, you won't be able to make a Kheldian that starts as a Villain or an Arachnos Soldier that starts as a Hero (and all EAT classes are unavailable to start in Praetoria as well). You CAN switch sides later, though... meaning you could create a Warshade and roleplay that he's actually a full Nictus once you've switched sides, or you could create a Widow that starts off serving Arachnos but then say they've defected and joined Longbow, etc.

Dude, unless you have two accounts, you only need to buy one or the other. Relax.

(I'd spend the extra $10 for the Complete Collection, since it seems to have a month of game time included.)
  15. I'm not in the mood to go digging up any specific comments on past articles, but there are always numerous people who think that the game is stagnant because the level cap is still level 50 after several years... *sighs*

There's also the occassional poster on these boards that PLs to 50 and then wonders where all the content is.

When CoV began accepting preorders, the stores gave a card (or was it a whole box? It's been over 4 years, I can't remember for sure) with a registration code on it. When you punched that code into your PlayNC account, it unlocked the goodies for you (as well as registered you for the CoV beta). Presumably, the same will happen here--you put down your $5 or $10 or whatever for a preorder code, and that money gets applied to the full version on the release date.

Not that I'm a huge fan of GameStop over other retailers, but they're generally very good for preorders if you have one locally. They also allow you to switch your preorder credit from one game to another at a later date... so if there is only a "standard" Going Rogue preorder, you can put $5 down on it and then just tell them you want to get the Complete Collection version instead when you go to pick it up.

  19. It could also be that his PR team just ran with the monster idea and told the public as many scary features as they could think of.

I mean, really, nobody's scared of the idea of giant amoeba.
  20. Misspellings that I've seen:
    "UOTLAW" (outlaw)
    "OOTLAW" (outlaw again)
    "SRUGING" (surging)
    "RNTERN" (intern)
    "WARDEM" (warden)
    "TRICER" (tracer)
    "PNWZ" (pwnz)

Not telling which ones I've found in the puzzle, but I was able to find some of them spelled correctly. Heck, they might all be in there.

I've gotten 6 total, but I'm gonna have to call it quits from here. Good luck peeps!
  21. I found one actual word, and one instance of "UOTLAW." So cruel.

  23. Ooh, I like yours Jophiel. I went for more of a travelling outfit in mine, but your dress looks great.

I think the gold in the bolero makes it a little too "busy," too distracting... makes it stand out too much, I guess.

Also, just as a suggestion, the thigh-high witch boots might go well as a bottom for that outfit, since (I think) the tops of them will be hidden under the skirt. The high heels don't really fit the time period you seem to be going for, and the Valkyrie boots are a little off given that there's no other armor on the character.

I just picked up a second account not too long ago. Since I pretty much only play on Victory, I was feeling a little limited only having 36 character slots. I'm not thrilled about spending an extra $15/mo, but I have the two accounts staggered exactly 15 days apart so they each come out of separate paychecks.

(The worst part, oddly enough, is starting over again on Vet Rewards. It's amazing how quickly you get used to things like City Traveller... )
  25. QR:

Praetoria itself might only be level 1-20, but they're definitely at least adding some more end-game content as well.

As for why they're focusing on 1-20 in Praetoria, I recall some statistics given a while back stating that the modal level range for characters across the game was 30-35. And people have been asking since Issue 7 for new ways to level up Villains from the start (even though that's when Burke was added) and even longer for Heroes. I don't mind the act of playing a new character from 1-20, but since I've done everything in that level range a dozen times or more on each side, I welcome the new shinies.

So, it's certainly not a bad thing at all that they're trying to breathe more life into the early levels of the game. Perhaps a push to add enough new content to level from 1 to 30 would be even better, but 1-20 is definitely a good start.
