... Why would we assume that they give a +2 level shift? I haven't heard of anything but a +1 shift, given by the Rare and Very Rare boosts...

  3. My first thought is, it probably has to do with your keyboard's design.

There isn't an individual cable plugging every key into the connector. Instead, there are zones of keys that pass on a numerator to the hardware that says, "Ah, zone 3 returned a value of 1, therefore the "w" key was pressed," and the computer responds appropriately. However, each of these sectors can generally only read one key press at a time. That's likely the issue you're getting, although I would expect Alienware to zone their keyboards better for gaming.

Which leads me to my second theory: there's some kind of shortcut key listener software running (that probably came pre-installed on the machine) that's choking the ability to run certain combinations of key presses.

I'd see if you can borrow a cheap USB keyboard from a friend to see if that solves the issue (in which case it's the first problem I described). I'm using a $16 Microsoft USB keyboard, and it works just fine when I use W+E. If you still have the issue, then it's time to dig through the bloatware that Alienware pre-installed on your system.
  4. I liked the first and hated the second... I'll probably end up seeing the third, but if it sucks, I'm out fo' reals this time.
  5. I still want them to go back and add a "towel cape" with a tied knot up front for the 42 month vet reward.

But yes, /signed on the suggestion.

That's certainly the easy way to get the job done. I can't say I'd prefer it to being unlocked via an arc, but I wouldn't complain if this were the case.
  8. They just posted today's Facebook set a minute ago. Grabbed one already.
  9. Obligatory "the suggestion forum is here" message.

I'd be all for a vet reward that grants an extra enhancement slot or two, but at this point it's going to take nearly seven years before a new player will see that reward, and in the right hands it could provide a very tangible benefit for veterans over new players. It could mean an extra IO proc or better IO set bonuses on powers that are just one shy of getting that bonus now.

As for the idea of trading in a power for bonus slots, I saw a suggestion during the i19 beta to create a new power pool to replace Fitness. Every power within it would give you two more slots. I liked the idea then, and I still like the idea now. I can't really think of too many characters where I'd actually take said power pool, but it'd be a nice addition to the one or two that I have that really could use an extra two slots.
  10. Many, many people have posted this.

    Here's your problem: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=246568

Basically, go through your contact list. If five of them have books next to their names, then you're going to have to clear their missions before you'll be allowed to take an additional story arc from Mender Ramiel.

(The quickest arc that gets left open by most people is the end of the Midnighter arc, where you are asked to go visit Imperious in Cimerora.)

This is not a new "problem" (and I use the term loosely, because it's a failure of players to finish what's already on their plates, not a failure of development), it's just one that's showing up more often now because there's a new story arc that everybody wants to play for the reward.

That's every CoP. If it's going to finish, it's going to finish fast. If you're still trying to take down the pillars at the 30 minute mark, you might as well just call it and go do something more constructive.

REDUCE the Area of Effect of the Bombs. LENGTHEN the time between the warning text and the actual explosion. DO NOT allow the bomb to chain react.

Everything I've mentioned in this post is either a critter stat or otherwise within developer control.
I like everything I see here. Additionally, make the bombs count down and go off automatically when the pet power's recharge cycle is complete, minimizing the total number of bombs on the screen.

That pic you posted earlier? That's what the fight looked like for me this weekend. It was... unpleasant.

I think it's more like, "I won a free car, but they didn't fill up the gas tank for me!" or "I won a free car, but it didn't come with a multi-slot disc changer and built-in DVD player!"

ALL of the characters I've respecced are a lot stronger for having Inherent Fitness now. If you need more than one slot in a power (I 2-slot all Leadership powers with double End Redux enhancements), then take the sixth slot out of something that doesn't need it so badly.

And don't forget... your level 50s now have access to Incarnate Alpha Boosts, which can pick up slack that you may have lost elsewhere in your build by sacrificing an enhancement slot to a new power.

  17. I just want to be sure of something here... this is a team-based badge, not a per-person badge, right? So if you hoverblasted while a team of brutes beat the snot out of Director 11, you would not get the badge if someone else on the team was damaged by the prox bombs, correct?
  18. By the time we finished fighting him in the Tin Mage TF I did, there were bombs EVERYWHERE. The floor was covered in them. Including places that Director 11 never even got close to. I was running around trying to set as many off as I could just so there was floor to stand on again.

In my opinion, the fight with Director 11 was worse than Battle Maiden at the end of the Apex TF. I haven't heard a single other person complain about it, so it's likely that something just went wonky in the run that I did... but it was definitely ridiculous beyond reason.

Invisible guys that can just run around willy-nilly and drop them wherever, even when Director 11 isn't even remotely close. Right.

Of course, that might have been the invisible guys running around scared by the AoEs... if they don't do that anymore, then maybe the prox bombs will make a bit more sense and the whole encounter will feel more natural.
  20. First post after redname!

Kinda sucks that the invisible minelayers can't be defeated any longer, but I can't say that I didn't expect it. (Still, is there a good reason for the dude to have invisible minelayers to begin with?) :/
  21. I'm probably going to get lynched for admitting to this, but prior to Inherent Fitness, I didn't take Lucky or Evasion on my SR Scrapper.

The increaded Defense Debuff Resistance has made an incredible difference.

I know he's cursed. Every time someone new takes up the mantle of Scirocco, they alternate being a hero and being a villain. The current Scirocco wants nothing more than to bring peace to his people, but as he is cursed to be a villain, everything he tries to do for the sake of good ends up turning out wrong. It's been implied, if not said outright, that he follows Recluse because he knows that with Recluse in power, everyone else will at least be on a level playing field.

Which is why I think he'd want to attack the Temple of the Four Winds, as that's where his powers originate, and he'd like to find a way to break free of his destiny. (Not sure why he's so gung-ho about capturing Serafina, as seen in the Ice Mistral SF, but I wouldn't be surprised if he wanted to force the genie to grant him a wish to the same effect.)

I don't think the lore of the game would approve too well of Heroes stealing power, even from Recluse's army. Plenty of RPers would get up in arms about it, as well, if text in the game told them that their shining paragon of justice ripped the power of Soul Mastery from Ghost Widow's cold, undead fingers.

I think it would work best if it stays close to the current Villain Patron arcs, where, once you do them a favor, they grant you access to their powers (you don't beat up your Patron until after they give you said abilities)... only, in the Heroes' case, they'd be granted the power by someone other than the Arachnos Patron.

  24. I was thinking today about how much I'd like my Fire/Rad Controller to have Soul Mastery, but how I don't really like the idea of making him a Villain to get it. I'm not saying that I refuse to do so (I totally will), but I got to thinking and stumbled onto this idea...

Why not, in the future (say around Issue 21 or 22), create an Heroic arc where you can unlock the Patron Power Pools? Much like Villains and Rogues currently get to choose which Patron they want to study under, Heroes and Vigilantes could be alerted that the four Arachnos Patrons are striking four separate locations, and go off on a series of missions to thwart one of them. Upon defeating them, you end up being exposed to their source of power (or something like that), gaining the ability to use Patron Power Pools on your bluesiders.

Just as a set of examples:
    • For Ghost Widow, you could stop her from binding more souls to fuel her powers, and the spirits reward you by adding their power to your own instead.
    • For Mako, you could save a group of still-partially-human Coralax from his wrath at not serving him, and gain their support and abilities.
    • You could defeat Black Scorpion as he goes to pick up a new power mace from a staff of kidnapped engineers and be given it as a souvenier for your heroism.
    • For Scirrocco, you could stop him from attacking priests of the Temple of the Four Winds or even Serafina, and be rewarded with mastery of the lightning magicks of Mu.
Ideally, this would be implemented either the same way that Villain Patrons are currently done (you choose one, you get just that badge, and you're locked out of all the other arcs and badges)... or, better yet, both Heroes and Villains are able to do all 4 arcs for their respective side. (There's not really a reason to lock anyone out of content, especially since we've been able to respec out of Patrons for what, two years now?)
