hmmm well thats a great fix for PvE, but how about a fix on the PvP side where meleers lack the ability to chase down a WW range opponent??
ei: anyone can get Web Nade to stop opponents with hover, and many ATs and powersets already include a -fly attack. Super jumpers/Super speeders have to stop to shoot or attack and then there's some suppression. TP takes up too much end to exploit like whirlwind, and the animation time in tp puts them at risk still. TP foe, SS, and Fly can be made useless with Slow debuffs. But what counters WW+SS+CJ+SJ?
My Point? every travel power and pool powers such as TP foe, hover, CJ, hasten, acro, etc. have an inheret weakness except WW+ any travel.
Point #2: WW by itself is a great and fun power because the user fights with the advantage WW provides and a draw back to. He still can be hit and he can attack while moving. Great! no problem there. The problem begins when the user combines WW with another travel power (this is especially so with CJ, SJ , and SS).
Point #3: So many players already agree that WW needs to be changed in PvP; however, the devs are faced with two very different communities that use WW for differing purposes. PvEers use it for extra control, while in PvP, WW is used to gain extraordinary survivabilty and it almost invalidates entire melee ATs. But if the devs nerf WW by increasing its end cost or getting rid of WW's ability to shoot while running, the PvE community will get upset.
Solution: WW should not be abled to be used with other Travel Powers. PvEers seldom use it with another travel power since it drains to much end. I've only seen it used to impress people in PvE. In PvP a blaster or controller can circle around a melee AT as they shoot away without ever getting touched by the meleer. Squishy ATs also have a hard time locking down a WW user since the user would be out of range if he/she is in trouble, then come back when they can take advantage. WW+SJ is an Escape power that is always on unlike Pff or PS where the user cannot attack and has to deal with animation time. Basically it is very hard to lock down a WW user while the user can attack in safety .
What do you guys think of my solution???

"And the people that cry DOOOOM can't seem to see that exploits *must* be blocked off, or eventually more people will be taking advantage of it."
Who cares?
Really, truly who honestly gives a rats behind?
Some make Exps to fast by combining their powers together to be more effective...EXPLOIT goes the cry.
Someone uses their powers in PVp to <gasp> WIN. And it's and EXPLOIT.
An exploit is getting more prestige than you pay for a Base item, and then doing it over and over.
An EXPLOIT is not using your powers as designed in new ways to greater benefit for your character and team.
Tell ya what, give everyone Brawl make us all Lvl 50 and call for a battle royal.
Knock all our HP's to the same level and make postive that the Brawl is only useful once every 5 minutes. That'll make it all better.
Then call it City of People who stand around trading punches.
Rant Off.

Exactly . While devs are turning their eyes upon the happy guy who found out a way to do something with an unpopular power and judging that the happy guy is doing a little too well ; there are somewhere else a team of 8 sonic defenders that are plowing through any missions at invincible setting and never never never ever get injured due to the stacking of their shields . But that is not an exploit , these guys are raking tons of xps with 0 risk but devs probably decided that they were playing the game as intended ( sarcasm ) . Personnaly , if 8 sonic players decide to team up so they can beat anything for 0 risk then more power to them and i applaud them for their strategy . Likewise , if a single player decide to spent one power choice to get whirlwind and manage to find a way to beat a few bosses with 0 risk , well , why is that wrong ? The guy cannot constantly run that power over mobs with the endurance cost of it and i really doubt Whirlwind ever was working on AVs or Monsters . So whats the big deal about it ?
To me , devs are engaged into a witch hunt and no one could guess til where itll go . Very sad .

No offense, but would you really be surprised if AS was changed? This is coming from someone who used it on his scrapper back before i1 when most thought it was garbage.
Now, everyone and his brother has it and they are using it for the side effect which isn't really even part of the power (-fly is supposed to be the main draw). I think the days of people bragging about juggling bosses and the great control power of AS are numbered and have been for quite a while.
Also, someone earlier mentioned team tp is a useless power. I use it all the time on one of my characters and no I won't say how or why. But it is FAR from useless.
[/ QUOTE ]
Whatever , at the rate they are modifying/reducing powersets and pool powers , before long there wont be anything special left from any AT . Like another guy mentioned , there are way too many powers that do knockback in the game and too few that do knockdown or disorient . Why so many knockback powers ? Granted , it looks cool . But gamewise , in many many many many many situations , players arent getting any advantages from a knockback maneuver and it may even sometimes put them in bad situations . So whats the point of all this ? Devs decided to stop making mobs tougher but instead they decided to make our powers perform poorly or in some case simply against us . Seriously , if devs completely decided to remove secondary effects from powers , i dont think players would be losing that much overall . Sure , there are still some very efficient powers with efficient secondary effect ( Air superiority , Cobra Strike , etc .. ) but the ways its going , they will soon be considered exploits because they JUST work fine .
Im not yelling doom but i indeed am showing concern about the way things are going . Some of you are saying that its just a damn game , well exactly , it is just a game . There are no vital needs to change everything every months for the sake of balance .
Just let people have fun for a change ? -
One thing i finally understand in this game is that : If a power is actually useful and gives you any kind of advantage against an enemy tougher than you , it quickly becomes called an exploit and it get nerfed to oblivion .
There is no place for creative players and as soon as you devise a few new combat styles that gives you the upper hand , devs will soon either : modify the enemy so theyll be immuned , modify the power so it dont work anymore or theyll simply modify the power so it becomes basically a waste to have it due to its lack of efficiency .
It is now another power to add to the long list of annoying/useless/unfun/tedious/ineffective/dangerous/unwanted powers that the game is offering us to pretend players have more options in game ( sarcasm ) . You can now add Whirlwind to the list : Team teleport , Flurry , Jump kick , Phase shift , Challenge , Stimulant , Invisibility , Increase Density , Bonfire , Boost range and more .
Feel free to complete the list and add more powers that simply arent useful enough to be worth taking .
Remember : If it helps you , it is broken . And it shall get fixed .

I noticed in COV there are several new costume options like Fishnet hose. Will these options ever become available in COH?
Thanks
[/ QUOTE ]
Id rather ask it like that
" How come all the villain costume options are not available in CoH yet ??? Statesman ! You promissed ! You promissed ! Dont forget ! "
( Cant wait to have more costume options !!! Its the best part of this MMO ) -
Also , with ED , i think slotting is alot less important ( especially when you keep soloing at Heroic setting ) . As long as i keep my Accuracy and Stamina SOs up to date , pretty much everything else is merely a bonus that i dont really need to complete my own missions with ease . I think any ATs can manage to defeat spawns of 3 whites using mere Generic enh in CoV . I only start needing my defences when im joining big teams and most of the time , the defences are still bad even with SOs when i habve to deal with red/purples mobs which are pretty much a waste of time and cause lot of casualties and downtime in the teams that have hardtime managing these fights .
Once again , if people were less greedy for xps and werent playing too much with the difficulty slider , theyd realise that villains really dont require optimal SO slotting to progress in game .
I told the devs one year ago that Influence trading was somehow a non-sense ( How can someone trade his influence/reputation to someone else ? ) and i still think it is . Influence/infamy shouldnt be a currency . How is it exciting to get enhancement drops when your toon already has all the influence/infamy he could ever need because someone gave it all to him right at start ?
Thats my opinion . -
So far , im getting a lot more money when im playing solo at heroic setting than when in team fighting red/purple mobs .
Alone , i get all the enhancement drops and it takes about only 10 minutes to get through a mission and get a reward .
No downtime , no waiting for other players , with the newspaper i get to choose which enemy group i want to fight ( i always go for the sky raiders , freakshows or councils ) and i often get missions that spawns in warehouses which are pretty much all within 500 yards of each others .
Things go fast and since its at heroic setting , my defense slotting isnt much important ( spawns of 3-4 are easily manageable ) .
At level 25 , my Brute got SOs in every slots and i now have save 120k already to buy my first level 30 SOs when ill hit lev 27 .
Also , leveling speed is still fairly quick ( even at heroic ) since it takes me 10 minutes to complete a mish and it takes about 3 mish for a bubble at lev 26 .
It will take me about 300 minutes to gain a level ( 5 hours ) , probably less since ill get story arc rewards on the way .
No , so far i cant complain , and i even spent 65k at lev 26 to finally get a decent second costume .
I still play in Sg mode and collect all salvage i can get ( maybe someday itll be worth influence to someone if i need ) .

Er, I'm not saying anything. I'm simply pointing out some technical problems with INTRUDER's insistence that "griefing" is misspelled.
For the record, my own definition is up above. Um, post #3912776.
In my own case, your example is meaningless because the only characters I'll be taking into the PvP zones will be villains and except for Siren's Call, you won't be able to attack me.
Now, if you stalk up behind me in Siren's Call and hit me with Assassin's Strike I'll be very angry, yes. So, you had better hope it lands and sends me packing with one shot, because if it doesn't, you'll find yourself repeatedly slammed into the ground and then knocked halfway across the zone.
I hope you enjoy ragdoll physics.

If the costume options are available to both heroes and villains, that'd be the ONLY reason I'd buy CoV. I tried Beta, and personally it sucked. Reminded me of CoH with Villains. I just want hooved/goat legs, wings, different hairstyles, and better clothing options!
[/ QUOTE ]
Thats exactly what i think , the costume options and my own little customizable base are mostly the only reason why i so want CoV . I will just keep playing in the CoH version because i just prefer the heroes AT ( the CoV ATs couldnt get me interested , i tried them all and i dont like much how they play at low-mid level , theyre not tough enough , i prefer the CoH scrapper , defender , controller and tanker versions ) . Also , i feel the CoH city to give me more places to go , it looks less linear , in CoV i feel everyone is getting the same missions and going in the same direction , i prefer the Atlas Park version with north, south , east and west exits .
Anyway , the costumes are really the things i liked the most in CoV and if they get in CoH ill be most happy
-
OMG !!! YAY !!! Ill be able to make werewolves heroes !!!! Woot ! Id buy CoV just for the extra costumes to get em in CoH and then keep playing good old CoH
Thats great -

I dont get it . How resisting blows is related to Super Reflexes ? While that solution could make the powerset better , i really dont see how that is making sense .
How about changing the name of the powerset ?
Resisting injuries really isnt the same as dodging them .
Maybe Super Reflexes is just too much breaking your game Jack and maybe the whole set should be rebuilt ?
Anyway , for me , this bonus looks more like a crutch than a real solution .
Maybe in the name of game balance , some powersets should get eradicated since they were either performing too good ( Invulnerability ) or were performing too poorly ( Ice tanks , SR ) .
After the ED patch , what will happen to Regeneration since theyll mostly have only 3 Heals in Integration ? Will you also give them Resistances to damage ?
I may sound harsh but i got completely burned out of all these "solutions" that were brought in game lately . I still hold a grudge because of Suppression and i havent forget any nerfs ...
I really wish that someday you explain to us the "vision" thoroughly .
Thanks for at least trying to come out with something ...
-
13.33 % ??? Nah , that wont do it . In the end , all my toons
will still be a bit less powerful overall that they were in Issue 5 which i think they were already severely reduced ...
And even if some of my toons still can manage to fight after
ED goes live , theyll still wont be able to do as much damage
or be as accurate or as resistant or evasive as they used to
be .
It is a nerf and none of your candies will change my mind
about it . My CoV order has been canceled and im just waiting
to see how bad it turns out in CoH before dropping it as well .
13.33 % ??? It will take a LOT more than that to convince me to stay this time lmao .
Thanks for this rare reply though .

What ???? A stupid bow is more accurate than my Assault Rifle ??? Man , that doesnt make any sense !!!!

Good bye Gilgamesh , we gonna miss you
By the way , im wondering , CoH staff starts to leave for other projects ... Does it means that CoH development is coming to an end ? Number of subscribers isnt high enough to keep staff working on the storyline ? Will Gilgamesh be replaced by someone else or the kind of lore Gilgamesh was feeding us isnt deemed valuable enough anymore ? Id like to know where Statesman "Vision" of CoH stands these days . Is CoH already an "old" game ? -

One Question
What are you going to do about the lack of reliable protection DEF builds have against anyone with perma or nearly perma +ToHit buffs, i.e. Blasters and Body Mastery Scrappers?
Supporting statements for this question:
I'm sorry but when my Dark Defender can cycle through Power Build Up and Aim so that I never miss an SR Scrapper there's something wrong with them. Everyone knows that a Blaster can easily do the same. From my own experience I've also seen that Focussed Accuracy completely ignores +DEF powers not to mention -Acc powers. Put an SR Scrapper up against these and watch him wither.
Don't get me wrong, this is definately a step in the right direction but I feel that it is not quite enough when you look at the PvP aspect of this game. As it stands, I wouldn't dream of bringing a DEF build into the Arena unless I knew the other guy's keyboard didn't work.
[/ QUOTE ]
LOL . I knew itI knew someone was to ask to nerf Focus Accuracy .
You know what , in the end , if someone challenge you for the arena and you see that he has powers that might invalidate your defense , it may be wise to decline the challengeBy concept this game let players select their powers and its VERY likely that in the world someday youll get your rear badly beaten by someone who isnt better than you but happens to have exactly the right powers to take you out . What can you do about it ? No AT can defend against everything ya know ...
-
And once again . everyone get to see why this game really isnt suited for PvP
But sure Statesman , keep nerfing us in PvE while you desperatly try to adjust things . Whats next ? Let me guess ...
You gonna nerf Focus Accuracy because it lets everyone hit everything ... While its not such a big issue in PvE , it suddenly become a real problem in PvP right ? Damn PvP ...
Then , Build Up and Aim maybe ? Its just too good in PvP right ?
Finally , when the "defensive" sets will be efficient then youll start to adjust the offensive sets to make them "more" efficient ? Of course, youll do it by nerfing defense like you did in I5
In the end , there is no way to make your PvP system much entertaining because unlike FPS games where players rely on reflexes , speed and knowledge of the map , your system is in the end nothing more than players facing each other clicking buttons and waiting for the highest number to determine who wins and who lose ...
While your game concept still carry some entertainment in PvE , it just doesnt translate well in PvP by design ... Its just not fun for players to eat the pavement because the opponent had the big numbers on his side or had the scisors while you were showing paper ...
In my opinion , PvP is great when speed , reflexes , aiming and surprise decide the outcome . But if i want to play a game like that , i would go play Medal of Honor , Battlefield 2 , Unreal or Quake which are all really great for that stuff ...
CoH is simply about : accuracy % vs defense % and damage per second vs resistance/regen/hp ... Theres just not enough left to reflexes and luck here ...
I foresee more useless nerfs coming in and you ?
-
Err.. No. I vote for 0% debt now that my toons are weaker than never .
Flame away. -
Errr.. Why isnt Cuppajo cleaning all these messy and uncalled for posts ? All im seeing here is a bunch of trolls . You dont like I5 ? Then tell us why . You like it ? Tell us why . Dont tell us that the guy who likes it or not is stupid . That , we dont want to know . Stay courteous
Personnaly , i really hate I5 and i couldnt care less about the need for game modification due to CoV coming . I never bought that game because of the possibilities to get into PvP thus any changes that reduce the uberness of my characters isnt seen as being fun .
Im still begging for the possibility for the Dev team to run a server using Issue 4 specifications and ill gladly go play there ( with alot of friends ) and we will keep having fun being indestructible super mega incredible powered heroesCan this be done ? If not , could you tell why ?
-
You know ... I bought that game about 10 months ago and when i look at my game manual im flabergasted to realise that what i am playing now on test doesnt look a bit with what i had bought . Its a whole new game and im in complete darkness . I have no numbers or indications to help me at all making informed decisions and i can only acknowledge that most of my toons cant perform nearly as well as they could one year ago . Even with a free respec , im far from sure to actually know what i should modify . So far , ive seen no difference with my toon fighting with IH clicked or not so maybe i should just remove the power and not use it at all ? Or maybe i should put in it more Heal enh ? But i have no idea if it wouldnt be a waste of slots . Statesman , we NEED more informations . Nerf whatever you want but at least show us where the things really stands so that we wont gimp ourself further . Its NOT fun .
-
I liked alot the Blue King comic because it was obvious that they were using stuff that was in the game we play everyday . The way the heroes were dressed the same we can dress our own heroes . The bold words relating to things we do in the game . I also liked the art and colors .
The TopCow comic is not bad thought. -

The BIGGEST benefit of posting numbers is that, when dev's introduce major changes, ...
a.) potentials for abuse can be more easily noticed.
b.) potentials for bugs can be easily identified.
c.) players can follow the logic of the dev's and, hopefully, flame less.
d.) players can feel more confidant in their power & slotting choices.
e.) If done right, game balance can be tracked by both dev & player.
[/ QUOTE ]
While I understand your argument, this is something I don't exactly agree with. Because you want to start to introduce the numbers into the mix, people start seeing their characters as less of a "character" and more of a jumble of statistics and figures. It becomes less about creating a character you enjoy and more about being worried about how your character performs without that extra .08 of damage.
In the end, to me at least, I think the more "numbers" and "statistics" you have available to you, the greater the risk of cheapening the game and the more destructive it becomes to the enjoyment of the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
I do understand your "roleplay" point of view but for me the reality of the Arena PvP brings the need for numbers and knowledge . For exemple , after i got badly beaten by a very same MA/Regen scrapper than myself 4 times in a row in a 1 on 1 match , i started to ask myself where did i failed in my build . Why was I always getting defeated ? We were fighting using mostly the same powers but the enemy was regenerating faster than me , hitting harder and taking less damages than me . So , it was obvious that my problem here was my enh slotting . When doing PvP in the Arena , roleplay isnt something that is very important . You want to have fun and of course you do your best to win or at least give a good fight . I was just out of my league in that last fight yet we were same level with same AT and same powers . That is frustrating .
We must not forget that there isnt much left to randomness in this game . With optimal slotting , every same AT will always do the same damage to the same enemy . There are very few dice rolls in this game and luck will rarely give you the victory . When i fight someone of my conning , the only luck factor is Critical Hit and to a lesser extend the 5% chance to miss an attack , thats all . When there is so few left to luck in a game , you come to rely on numbers and enhancements because they are in the end what makes the difference .
So yes , i understand your point of view about the "atmosphere and roleplay" but the least you could do is to respect the other side of the window which is about maths and statistics .
Someone also wrote that if numbers and stats are your stuff that i may be playing the wrong game . Ill answer to that by just saying that there are lot of players who have been playing for months trying to maximize the potential of their toons and i feel there is a place for them in CoH ( especially for people who will be very involved into the competition in the Arena ) .
To conclude , id say that most people do care about numbers , some more than others . Granted , some people really dont give a damn about them . But many people like myself think numbers in CoH are important enough nowadays and are willing to ask the Dev team to share more with us about them so that we can make more enlightened choices when building our heroes .
Ok , im done , while waiting for more informations , ill go back in the Arena , still clueless about how to slot my powers for maximum efficiency and ill decline any challenge that uber scrapper could throw at me . But a day will come ... and ill get my revenge mwhahahaahahah
