Quote:Energy Torrent does knockdown, not knockback. All the Ancillary versions do knockdown, which is rather nice (or nicer anyway).Go use Wikia if you're not sure. Nobody's claiming perfect knowledge of the game. That's why I gave you a link in my reply.
Yes, they share themes - they do not necesarily share the APP or most of the powers. Stalkers get some control, several ranged attacks and utility. Blasters tend to get control, shields and utility. The sets are not that much alike in most instances. And neither one has a repel power. Stalkers may have cone attacks that do knockback (torrent and energy torrent,) but that's not going to be mistaken for a FF MM's powers.
Stalker APPs
Blaster APPs
Just so you can see what I mean.
Regardless, it's hard to confuse any of them with Force Bubble (or Repulsion Field, for that matter, though that's much closer range and you can see the pulses - it does definitely do knockback.) -
Quote:Why would that matter? Tremor, Fault and Footstomp can be slotted that way if one desires, in addition to Twilights example.Probably because of that sitting Knockback IOs in Burst would change its effect to Knockback instead of the Knock[i]down[i/] intended.
In fact Burst sticks out like a sore thumb in that it's a PBAOE with knockdown which isn't allowed to slot Knockback Set IOs -
Quote:Dark Armour says Hi! (as do a lot of Brute primary powers). Control isn't completely alien to Brutes or Scrappers.
The smoke flash and blinding powder effects are direct contrasts to the scrapper and brute methods of managing damage, not aggro. These two powers would need to be replaced with something else in order to fit the scrapper / brute armor build mechanics.
I wouldn't say "not a chance", but it is probably low on the list of things they could proliferate given the necessary changes to Caltrops and Hide (although Hide could easily become a standard cloak of course). Caltrops isn't Brute friendly really, and Scrappers already get it as Je Saist says
It'd certainly be an interesting thing to proliferate and be nicely different type of set to give to Scrappers and Brutes. It'd be sorta like a Shield Defense / Fiery Armour compromise, weaker at defense but stronger in another area (control in Ninjitsus case, damage for Shield and Fire Armour) -
Going on the "No repeats" rule and based first on what I've tried and then what is left and sounds like fun / useful
- Necro/Dark : My original Villain and one of my fav characters.
- Thugs/Traps : Another combo I have. Good fun
- Demons/Pain : Just trying this combo now as a soloist. It may annoy me too much once I get the screeching demons at 12/24 of course.
- Mercs/Storm : 6 Ranged Henchies + Hurricane? Yes please
- Bots/FF : I've no real intention of playing either. Bots annoy me. Thematic combo though
- Ninjas/Thermal : Changed my vote to this simply because Thermal is more likely to keep the Ninjas alive.

Quote:Nope, you can go over the soft-cap with just your own buffs & bonuses. My Widow has something like 56% melee defense all of the time (and it wasn't even that hard to reach). When it comes to fighting most things though that 56% is no more useful than 45% would be (unless they can either debuff my defense if they do hit me, or have a ToHit bonus).Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'd been led to believe there was another reason it was called a soft-cap - that it was the maximum amount achievable by a character's OWN buffs. Buffs applied from OTHER sources can exceed the soft-cap amount (there is a hard-cap amount which cannot be exceeded by anything, I am told). Is that correct?
In any case, thanks for the answers! -
Quote:I play Virtue now, it is generally as smooth if not better than Onion was when I was playing that side.i think thats the problem i DONT want it. i DONT have a problem with connection or anything but when playing against Americans on XBL i DO have problems then
if there is no benefit after this 6 hours it'll just be a colossal inconvenience i'd rather not chance it (i KNOW i dont have a choice its just my opinion)
If the output of any given action is not satisfactorily greater than the input then it is not worth undertaking
There are a number of benefits here. For the players you are getting the HW upgrades the US got a while back. You are also getting the engineering and backend staff in-house rather than the offshoot which was in Germany.
For NCSoft there are cost benefits in terms of having one group of experienced support staff to maintain the servers, it will be easier to synchronize updates.
Potentially it removes one of the barriers to proper unification of EU and US games into one (although of course there are probably a lot of other barriers as well). -

Quote:Yes, Damage buffs (in fact lots of buffs / modifiers) are passed down to pseudopets nowadays. Been that way for a long time at this stage. Are you sure the +Dmg buffs transfer to the pseudo-pet that is created by LR and SC? I am not questioning you so much as honestly asking. I know at one time pseudo-pets did not receive such buffs due to the damage not coming directly from the actual caster.
It was one of the reasons for the changes to pets and pseudopets which fixed their recharge (IOs were one reason but also things like Lightning Storm were getting a double whammy of effect from Hasten).
If it wasn't the case then LS and Shield Charge would be pretty hopeless for Brutes. I've verified it myself from a lot of use of the old form of Burn, which used to get the Damage from Fury for around the first 2 seconds and then it would sharply drop off as the damage buff wore off (the Pseudo gets passed both the amount and the duration of damage buffs as it spawns and then they are separate). -
Quote:Not particularly desirable by NCSoft as a business anyway. If you spend the time and effort to implement a tricky and long running issue for your customers do you then also want to throw away any potential revenue resources that may accrue from that work? Not desirable by whom?
More sensitively to whom?
These suggestions would seem to work to me. It would be desirable by me and some others I know. I don't see this idea as lacking in sensitivity at all.
How about a little more discussing specific pros and cons and less throwing around emotional and vague no's?
Overall I think you're right in terms of people jumping the gun and predicting a Ghost Town in the EU servers if it did happen. I don't think too many would just up and leave their home servers outright. They are far more likely to test the waters by just rolling an Alt on one of the Big Two instead. -
Quote:The best place is as a PBAOE when you're already in the middle of your spawn. That way you'll get the AAO damage bonus on it too. In fact if you also have Power Siphon available it might be best to fuel that up a bit first and then unleash SC as a PBAOE, especially if you're solo.Quick question on Shield Charge. I just picked this up for my now level 36 KM/SD Scrapper. When going for the Teleport charge, what would be the best spot to target your point of attack, behind the group, in front of the group or on top of the group? I ask as I sometimes come up a bit short on the knockdown when I have the target spot slightly ahead of the group but if I put the target behind the group or even on top of the group I will usually have better results with knockdowns. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
If you're talking about on teams and using it as an opener then just behind the group, that way any that avoid / ignore the KD and unleash a cone attack are aIming away from your squishies (as in the other people on your team with low HP & defenses, not any squishy bits of your body).

Quote:I don't want to make things generally "un-outlevelable" at all, I understand generally why they do it. But with Praetoria it is so quick to fly through a lot of the content and the ranges are so tight that it makes it trickier to complete arcs all the way through so you can do the Morality missions at the end.I think it stems from this quaint idea the Devs still cling to that individual characters should have an individual "journey" through the content and that it should NOT be our goal to have a single character experience everything.
Now I understand why they keep that view of things because they think it's the main reason why people like to play alts. That could be the case for some people, but in reality all that policy really does is tend to frustrate the "completists" among us who's only real motivation to keep playing is precisely the goal of trying to experience all content on one character. It's the classic disconnect between the game we want to play and the game the Devs -want- us to play.
I doubt the Devs will ever directly pander to your idea of making things generally "un-outlevelable". But thankfully they finally gave us the "no XP" toggle that will allow us to regulate our ability to play however we want, even if the way we want to play doesn't make the Devs happy.
It's missing out on the chance to make decisions on what your character does / becomes which frustrate me the most in Praetoria. Why write tech to allow people to make these new meaningful choices, one of the main features of the new arcs, if we have to use a work-around to get to them. -
Quote:Jolting isn't that great at AOE draining though, the -End part only affects the initial target. Have a look at the Detailed Info for it and you can see this.I have to remind myself to use it, too. It's a big component of my super-sapper build. Conductive aura, static field, chain fences, and jolting chain are key ingredients to draining spawns down to 0 end. Even one EC user could drain Eochai and Jack to pansy status during Halloween. The knockdown is useful, but not overwhelming. Knocked down foes cannot fight back. When you get the gremlins stacking their jolting chain on top of yours, the result will be much more noticeable for direct knock down mitigation and end drain.
Chain Fences on the other hand is good thanks to the 50% chance for -recovery. -

I was pretty sure that the old version of Burn did make Acc checks, just lots of them fairly quickly. So not being able to slot for Acc didn't really matter too much (and indeed was by design)
Nowadays the initial burst is a direct PBAOE, not a pseudo pet (you can verify this by trying it without any enemies in range, no patch will drop) and it makes a ToHit roll as far as i'm aware. So the lack of ability to add Acc (at least for scrappers, I'm not sure about Brutes and Tanks versions) is an oversight / bug.
Best way around it is to slot some Acc/Dam PBAOE sets.
For Choking Cloud the same applies, although it is by design in this case. Best way around it is Frankenslotting some Acc/Whatever IOs from the Hold IO sets.
Smoke is Autohit in PvE as far as I know, but may need a ToHit in PvP. -
Quote:Are you serious about this? Really? You think it's trivial to export, copy, import, test and validate 5 years worth of data from one server to another, especially something as important to people as this?Is it just me who thinks 6 hours is far too long! infact its a bloody ridiculous amount of time... and on my day off too.
6 hours is a pretty excellent turn-around time to do something of this order of magnitude, even if they've been laying the groundwork for the last few weeks in preparation. -
Quote:Bonus points for the Blackadder II reference (one I use on a daily basis when talking about making any changes to servers here).I guess that geographic disparity may have been one of the hurdles to cross before a server-list merge could be implemented - and if so then this'll be one hurdle crossed.
If an eventual list merge is on the cards (*crosses fingers*) but required server relocation then they'd have been mad to try doing it all in one go. The more you change in one go the greater the chance that Mr Cockup comes to play.
So IMO the EU guys can be pretty happy as it suggests that an eventual list merge may have been reconsidered, and it makes sense from the IT perspective to do it in 2 (or more) stages rather than one massive set of changes that breaks the game for everyone...
The new EU servers should be inline with the US ones in terms of hardware too, so it's also an upgrade of them I guess. -
Really? REALLY? This would be sublime news!
(although it will mean I will shuttle between one account and the other on an almost monthly basis, but I don't mind that). I could Gleemail between my accounts, which would be excellent.
They shouldn't offer a weeks worth of free transfers though if they do merge. To do so would be missing out on a lot of potential revenue.
I think the main effect would be that a lot of people, like me, would roll (yet another) alt on a EU Server to see their compatriots and run GR. Of course it will work both ways but I feel the net effect would be more NA accounts trying out alts on Onion and Deviant.
Yes, I'm aware the announcement specifically says "No merge at this time" but surely it would have to happen fairly soon afterwards (otherwise why bother going to the expense and hardship of setting up a new server group and transferring all those 1s and 0s).
On the other plus side does it mean the EU servers are being brought inline with the US ones Hardware-wise? -
Quote:Thank heavens.A *bit* boring? Try very. OK, sure, you spent time standing around getting to know your teammates as you chatted, then 2-3 blasters nuked and you went to the next floor to continue your conversation....
Now, it's useful if mobs are in ones and twos here and there. It's "sort of" useful if large spawns are too close, but that's more a case of a tank handling aggro than actually *herding.*
I agree, it's a remnant of a dead play style.
I remember playing my Illusion/Stormie back in i4 and being hit with the double whammy of "herding to here" along with "Don't cast Freezing Rain please, it makes them scatter"

Quote:Why do the missions outlevel at all?At level 14 you've already passed your chance to do everything on your Stalker.
There are guides on this in the Player Guides section but basically you have to shut off XP at "main" contact cutoffs at level 10 and 15 at the very least. The Guides have more precise info for all that.
Praetorian factions are pretty much unique in that the enemies involved go from 1-20, so outlevelling Nova at 10 and Imperial at 15 makes no real sense to me. -
Quote:Don't forget Widows and Banes.Wait, you consider being weaker in dps, AoE dps, survivability, and self-buffing a fair tradeoff for being able to quickly down a single problem lieutenant or having the chance to fear mobs around a boss?
The example of shared aggro is an extremely minor problem compared with the fact that people don't want them on teams because Scrappers/Brutes consistently outperform them in pretty much every way. -

Quote:Most of the time. In Sonic Blast everything will stack alright, but in Sonic Resonance Sonic Siphon will not self-stack from the same caster (Disruption Field is a toggle so obviously won't anyway). If I have fast recharge, would the -res from the same power stack with itself?
Powers in Blast sets almost always self-stack, in Buff/Debuff sets it is a bit more random as to which will and won't.
