Don't mean to throw that opinion back into your face mate, but I beg to differ, life drain is for when twilight grasp is recharging and black hole really works wonders if you use it right. And to the other opinion about slotting in twilight grasp, I have slotted it with 4 healing and 2 accuracy (all SOs and DOs) to squeeze everything I can out of it. At lvl 37 I heal around 400 hp every turn. But apart form that I think I should rething my slotting.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I know you've a phobia of it but Darkest Night will increase your survivability far more than Life Drain. Still if your happy using Life Drain work away. Personally I think its too End heavy to be a useful heal though.

4 slotting with heal is again a waste of a slot for only a 5% gain. I know you want to maximise your heal but I'd throw the slot into something else. As you say the slotting needs a little rethink.

Whenever I use the Char Builder my slotting ends up a little funky too sometimes. Its the speed at which it lets you build I think. Like ingame you're thinking for at least a few hours what you are going to do with the next slots or power choice.

Pity I picked Thorns for my Dom. And then skipped the melee attacks (only level 14 when I gave up on him. Maybe I'll thaw him out though)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thorns is great but a bit dull until late on. I used Skewer and Impale as my only attacks (and Thorny darts) all the way to level 35. Ripper and Thorn Barrage are jaw-droppingly great attacks and in fact I got used to have just the 2/3 attacks, and they're good ones. I went entirely for single target attacks which saved me End early on. Impale turns out to be very useful taking down fliers and/or immobilising targets, Thorns also has Aim which none of the other sets have.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yeah I read afterwards its a late bloomer alright. My chronic Altitis means I'll probably never see those powers though

And why oh why did I pick Hotfeet for a Dominator? I don't have the survivabilty to get away with it...
  3. Erm Ok. Those 3 slots in heal are a waste to someone whos got Twilight Grasp. Throw them into Fearsome stare.

In fact the slots in Hover, Swift, Fly, Health and the 4th one in Stamina & 4th Damage in Dark Blast are all a waste of slots compared to where they could go. Throw em into Tentacles, Fearsome Stare, the Snipe, Nightfall etc instead where they are a bit of use.

I've got a mutant SS/Inuvl brute on Union called Dog-Boy.

He's a cross between bad-Superman and an Alsatian.

Urrgh. What did bad Superman do to the poor Alsatian?

Don't you think Greater Ice Sword looks a bit ridiculous, though? I was hoping for the animation Jack has on his amazing sword attack, not a wavering sword nearly taller than me that looks like it might break anytime.

I'm quite looking forward to the Imps, and interested to see if I can go Staminaless with Consume. But I agree, Fire control seems a bit uninspiring in general. I think it will be a case of going for damage, damage, more damage and just enough control that I stay alive doing the damage.

Looks like no change to Ice Sword Circle, btw.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Fire Control low on AOE control? You get 2 hard AOE controls & an AOE Immob by level 18. They do need 6 slotting though. Well the holds do. Fire Cages doesn't and is likely to get a Dominator killed in any case really.

Personally I think Fire is as good as Ice for AOE control. In fact in terms of preventing enemies firing back its better as Flashfire > Ice Patch in stopping incoming damage (they get to fire back occasionally whilst slipping about on an icepatch)

Pity I picked Thorns for my Dom. And then skipped the melee attacks (only level 14 when I gave up on him. Maybe I'll thaw him out though)
  6. Personally I wouldn't bother with the Medicine Pool with a Dark Defender. Aid Self is probably not needed, the Dark heal centres around you. Aid Other if you want but since the AOE centres around you you've got control of it (compared to Kinetics) so you should be able to heal anyone. I'd have 5 slots in the heal though, 2 acc & 3 heal. I'd only have 3 slots max in a Medicine Pool heal, they're inherently weaker heals so your better off slotting your strongest heal 1st.

Howling Twilight needs an Accuracy too I'd say. It's to-hit I think.

Is level 22 the earliest you can fit Fearsome Stare in? It's my fav power of the set (Tar patch and DN are great but Fearsome Stare is the most fun).

And I'd get a Travel Power. The AOE Res of Howling Twilight calls for Recall Friend so therefore I'd go with Teleport.

Shadow Fall is like Steamy Mist so +Defense enhances are basically useless there. I'm not so sure you need 2 End Redux in there too, I get by fine running Steamy Mist 24x7

    Just Vengence I think.

There were poorly written patch notes when it was first announced, I read it the same way too originally.
  9. Kinetics is a busy build alright. And in fact my Kinetics Elec has a lot of the same powers as you, including Aid Self for the reluctant Blasters etc. But I blast an awful lot too and get away with it. Even on "full speed" (Siphon Speed x2 + Haste) I've time to snap off one or two AOE attacks in the midst of all the heals.

In fact generally I find that I don't need to heal 24x7 on a team and being able to land a few attacks is a better use of my time compared to healing when everyone is fine / barely hurt anyway.

Also it gives you a bit of flexibilty. If you are the only support char thats great but if there's an Empath on the team too suddenly your heals aren't as needed, Speed Boosts are less needed as Endurance is pretty plentiful anyway so you may as well have a "Plan B" type option available to you such as "Screaming Psychic Death for all" via Fulc & some nasty pink AOE attack.
  10. I'd go with that too. Being support doesn't mean you're not allowed attack.

I've no knowledge of Psy but I'd go for one or two AOE attacks to pair with Fulcrum at 32. Whats the point of being Kinetics if you can't exploit Fulcrum Shift fully?
  11. Eh? Is this a joke or something?

Given that Invis makes a char semi-transparent, meaning the graphics card needs to blend a character with their background, its MORE taxing for a PC to deal with semi-transparent characters like the ones Invis produces.
  12. If someone is happy to commit death-by-lunacy thats fine by me. But when they start aggroing before the entire team is in and resulting in others dying too that'd annoy me.

Get them one of those baby-leash thingies so they can't go wandering off causing hassle before everyones in & ready

    Fire/FF

Why no Hotfeet + PFF combo? Isn't that the really nasty trick Fire/FF has up its sleeve? Hotfeet on, Fire Cages, PFF, stand and laugh manically / make snappy remarks.

But Marilyn Manson? Little Alice Cooper Junior?

Marilyn Manson, an Alice Cooper Junior??

Thats like comparing God to erm.... someone who isn't. Alice Rocks, Marilyn sucks. Take that literally.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I shoulda used the word "wannabe" too. I actually like Alice. He's a cool guy.

But my point was that they're both complete showmen with specific personas. If you ever hear them nowadays they're both pretty well spoken, clever guys.

Manson is obviously completely Alice inspired though, thats what I meant.

Carni, if you're having trouble with agro going in the wrong places, ask ducktor to 'tone it down' on his costumes. If he's dressing like he used to, he's gonna be taunting their eyes from miles away!

Hiya Essell. Long time no see. Actually I haven't seen Ducktor online either for a while.

Although I've been off without Internet for the last 6 weeks anyway. Boo.

    My Ill/Emp Build

I assume this will be a team oriented build, so I'd consider dropping spectral wounds for blind and let the team do the damage while you do the controlling.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You would drop illusions only way of doing containment damage? Seems silly to me.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Spectral Wounds doesn't cause containment, Blind does. So the question is how is Spectral Wounds meant to do Containment damage without the single target hold setting up Containment.

And you're wrong anyway. Stacked blinds also benefit from Containment damage for the second and every following Blind.

    Personally I'd get both ASAP.

What sort of Blasts do you have?

I can't help with Forcefields I'm afraid, no experience with them.

The Fitness pool makes most toons easier to play by giving you Stamina which means you recover Endurance quicker and thus can keep going for longer. However to get it at level 20 you need to choose 2 earlier powers from Fitness to open it up. These are Sprint, Hurdle and Health. Usually I end up choosing one at level 8, 10 or 12, another at 16, 18 or 20 and then Stamina at 20 or 22. Don't worry about it too much though, just aim to get it around 20. A level or 2 (or 6 in the case of one of my chars) is fine too, you aren't "broken" or anything.

    Hiya, welcome to the Forums.

With teleport it really shines from about level 22 onwards. There are two reasons : You can use Single Origin enhancements at level 22, you buy these in the Science Store in Talos or Independence Port and they are twice as effective as the Dual Origins you get in Steel and Sky, or 4 times as effective as the Training Origins you get from the start.

So with 3 slotted SOs (I went 1 range and 2 endurance reduction but others go 2 range, 1 end reduction) it makes Teleport a lot more effective.

Also at level 20/22 you should have finished opening the Fitness pool to get yourself Stamina. Stamina increases the speed at which you get your Endurance which again works well with Teleport.

For the moment i'd put 3 slots into it and put in 1 range and 2 End Reduction Dual Origins (you can get these in the Science or Tech stores in Steel / Sky).

which is the best defense for a team?

[/ QUOTE ]What sort of Defender are you? What are your Primary and Secondary power sets?
  19. Yep as far as I know.

Generally it doesn't matter as much though, they aren't as reliant on henchies as MMs are.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
Wow, /Dark definitely sounds like a great set!

Thanks for all the comments again. I'm sorely tempted to go down the /Kin route, just because they are familiar powers from my controllers, but think I'll ignore that urge and try something new.

I will take a look at the /Dark and /Cold tonight powersets tonight, and see if I can find any powers that I like at low levels, so pre-10 I'd guess.

Reading the corrupter board, I see a group of /Rads starting out, whoa mama, that would be a disgustingly powerful SG! Unfortunately it's on Defiant, and the meetup times are... odd

Might start something here Would a Darkrupter SG go as well as a Radrupter one? Hmm, might need a couple of toons...

    Ta all!

    [/ QUOTE ]
Dark Miasma rocks completely. It has one of my favourite animations : the "I'm gonna give them the Glowering of their lives" of Fearsome Stare. So many toys in it.

Dark Blast is a little light on damage though and there's a lull in the 20s with its relatively useless high-tier powers (Torrent and Life Drain. yuck)
  21. Indeed I do. It's because your minions remain at the higher level otherwise which is open to massive exploits. Apparently they can't lower the levels of spawned mobs dynamically.

One could ask why not given the fact that the only truely new AT in villains relied on Henchmen and the prevelence of Sidekicking & Lackying ingame but you probably wouldn't get an answer.

Think its more along the same lines as there are so many tankers who go for the largest looking char they can make and so really dont want not to be seen .

    [ QUOTE ]
I found when I had group invis that it's not too difficult to just give out a call to gather for group invis, and warn people at the beginning of the mission to move away a bit if they don't want it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thing is when your team is dropping +3s in a few seconds nobody can really be bothered gathering around for something that adds nothing much to the team at all. I guess in bad teams it may stop unwanted aggro but apart from that dont see much use in it and its a waste of end PvE .

    [/ QUOTE ]
Doesn't it provide 12% defense across the board?
  23. Yep, I've absolutely no mez protection in my build at all. Bound to catch up with me. In fact it has in the past. I've had a warrior knock me into viewing range of a passive group and barely survive (gotta love the Kinetics heal).

Yep I meant End Mod. End Redux sounds like some Vin Diesel movie
  24. For a Scrapper Kinetics is great. I'd go with a Kinetics defender as a Controller might remove the challenge slightly. Plus you'll get things like Speed boost & Fulcrum Shift earlier.
