Dark/Rad Team support build

Ok, I'm trying to build a decent team support Defender who isn't a healer, after seeing various defenders in action I've settled on a Dark/Rad combo so I can use /Rad to increase my chances of hitting with the strong Dark/ debuffs and hold combo's.

Note I haven't taken a travel power so I could fit the Medicine pool in, hopefully this won't turn out to be massively annoying

Personally I wouldn't bother with the Medicine Pool with a Dark Defender. Aid Self is probably not needed, the Dark heal centres around you. Aid Other if you want but since the AOE centres around you you've got control of it (compared to Kinetics) so you should be able to heal anyone. I'd have 5 slots in the heal though, 2 acc & 3 heal. I'd only have 3 slots max in a Medicine Pool heal, they're inherently weaker heals so your better off slotting your strongest heal 1st.

Howling Twilight needs an Accuracy too I'd say. It's to-hit I think.

Is level 22 the earliest you can fit Fearsome Stare in? It's my fav power of the set (Tar patch and DN are great but Fearsome Stare is the most fun).

And I'd get a Travel Power. The AOE Res of Howling Twilight calls for Recall Friend so therefore I'd go with Teleport.

Shadow Fall is like Steamy Mist so +Defense enhances are basically useless there. I'm not so sure you need 2 End Redux in there too, I get by fine running Steamy Mist 24x7

Depending on what you wish to do, will affect how you slot Twilight grasp - Do you want it to be a AOE heal or -acc debuff? I've got 3acc 3 heal in mine - tends to miss a bit otherwise - could easily get rid of an acc or heal there for a recharge.

Howling Twilight - as far as I remember is auto-hit - AOE res and disorient - one of the best powers in the set. A heal enhancement in there sounds like a bug - think thats back in the days when the quality of the res would depend on the number of enemies drained to use it. Not needed anymore. One enemy is enough to res a whole team back to full health. You might want to stick another recharge and then start thinking about disorient enhancements.

With fearsome stare - depending on what level enemies you're be facing, and the intention of your build - will determine whether you get anything out of how you've slotted that. I've gone for accuracy and fear with a recharge or 2.

Dark Servant - again, it possible you have been looking at old information. the recharge is wasted. You can't have more than one servant out at any one time now and they last as long as the power takes to recharge. So recharge isn't needed.

On dark servant - you can decide on what you want him to be good at. Throw in a couple of accuracies and with the other 4 slots you can decide if you want him as a debuffer, healer, 'controller'. Personally I've gone for 2 acc, 2 heal, 2 hold enhancements.

In regard to the leadership pool - with Tactics, you might as well stick some tohit buffs in it to get the most from this.

I go for 2acc, 3heal and 1recharge in mine.

It is auto hit. I only have a recharge in mine.

If I could I would put at least ten slots in Fearsome Stare. I've tried a variety of different combos, but find 2acc, 2fear and either 2recharge or 1recharge and 1to-hit debuff are my preffered combos.

I slot my Fluffy 1 acc, 3 to hit debuffs and 1 recharge. I go for debuffing because he has more debuffing potential than anything else (Twilight Grasp, Darkest Night, Tenebrous Tenticles, Chill of the Night). I have a recharge as I like to have a little overlap so I can use the soon-to-expire Fluffy to take an AVs alpha and get another one up straight away.

I'd absolutly 100% drop aid self/other and pick up a travel pool. All have advantages, particularly SS (hasten is always useful, SS stacks with Shadowfall in PvE for invisibility) and teleport (Recall freind is useful for mass rezes with Howling Twilight and also Fluffy Wrangling).

I'd also fit Darkest Night (3 to hit debuffs, 1-2 end reds)in your build. No other power in Dark Miasma (with the possible exception of Fearsome Stare) adds as much to your team's survivability.

Definitely think you need to fit darkest night into the build. I have twilight grasp slotted 2 heal, 2 acc and 2 recharge. Against a single opponent I spam it contantly and it's easy to triple stack it for a 30% damage debuff against a +2 (as well as ~10% to hit debuff).

I also went for the speed pool to get hasten and SS for invis.

Ok, that's my next build taking most of the advice here, though I still am choosing to try it without a travel power so I could fit darkest night in and used my last power slot to take Grant Invisilibilty to go along with Shadowfall in boosting ppl's defence.

Most of my dark powers only have one accuracy as the defence debuff of Rad should boost my own accuracy as well (so far it seems to be working)

Irradiate is the about the biggest defence debuff attack as far as I'm aware so you really don't want that one to miss. Not sure about Proton Volley being used as a debuff? Very slow to fire and I'm not sure the debuff is any greater than say Neutrino Bolt which you can fire off a lot more often (albeit at a closer range). Maybe one or two quick single target attacks for debuffing bosses and a couple of AoE for mass spawn debuffing? I'm no expert on Rad I should point out.

Oh, and when I tested I wasn't sure there was any defence at all with Shadow Fall, so the def buff might not be worth slotting...

To be perfectly honest if you want to play a "support" character I don't think dark/* is the best way to go. It is a pure debuffer and in my opinion should be built/slotted as a debuffer. If you want to play a support character you'd be better off with an empath, ff, sonic, or even kinetics if you wanted a different type of support.

If you stick with dark some of the things I'd change are:

Tar Patch - I'd never bother with slows unless theres no where else to put the slots. Slot it for 3 recharge first and use it for the -res as much as possible, then add slows to suit if slots can be sparred.

Shadowfall - The defence given by shadowfall really isnt great and not worth enhancing, its better slotted for 3 dam res.

Darkest Night doesnt need recharges in it. It is up pretty quickly as it is. Better slotted with 3 tohit debuff and and end rdx.

Fearsome Stare - Slotted same as mine really, but I'd try and take it sooner if possible.

Tactics - If you take tactics on a defender or controller it really is worth 3 slotting for tohit buffs. I have 3 slotted tactics and can get by with only 1 acc in my other powers. I'd try and put more slots in it. Also your build is centred on decreasing enemies acc and defence and increase your teams defence so maybe in your situation maneuvers would be better than assault?

I'd try and fit a travel power in somewhere, I've tried without before and it soon gets annoying. Especially when you have to go from one end of Indy Port to the other. Maybe teleport? You can also pick up recall friend then to work with howling twilight.

I'd also drop atomic blast with your build. Your not going to kill anything unless you 3 slot it for dmg, and to drain all your endurance just to lowers the enemies defence by a small bit isnt worth it imo. You'd be better off keeping your end and concentrating on keeping your debuffs running, having enough end to heal when needed etc..
