  2. No worries Capt. As I said poor Carni is having issues anyway so I don't mind that much. Grrr. The only defeat I've had have been down to my Graphics Card exploding and the i7 bugs. Maybe Cryptic are conspiring against me...
  3. Nothing posted yet and I was just wondering. Not that I mind too much. Carni is Illusion and keeps crashing when I try to play her. But if its on I'm happy to turn up and try to fight for my right to par-tay.

    That one is so annoying, you often have no idea if the person is saying 'yes' or 'why', only they seem to know the context. People need to remember that the rest of us can't read their minds. Can't see the point of shortening a 3 letter word anyway - I've seen this one a few times but it's cmopletely unnecessary and can be very confusing

    The missus has her storm defender to (iirc) 26, and it is very enjoyable, and challenging set to play. For a controller, it just gets better - apart from gale, there aren't any horrible powers in Storm, and all of them add more pseudo control to your arsenal.

    You get a toggled slow, a team stealth toggle with resist to F/C/E, freezing rain - (-spd, -recharge, -def, -res) also has some knockdown too. Hurricane for -tohit, with a smidge of repel (combining nicely with TK), an aoe disorient, tornado for knockaround and damage and lightning storm for damage and -end.

    Add in the mass of control you get with mind, and you could lock down pretty much everything. Anywhere. Oh, and O2 boost is an ok healother that also gives sleep resistance.

    O2 is really handy for dealing with stuns too. Dunno if it give Stun protection (I suspect it does) but it removes Stun effects on teamies.

    Storm is a wonderful, messy set. The only thing I'd say against Mind / Storm is that there isn't great Freezing Rain synergy due to the minute damage from FR messing up Sleep & Fear to a lesser degree. But the same is true with my Illusion/Storm and its still lots of fun. You just have to be a little proactive with Hurricane to keep em bunched up.

    A restart

    Kinetics as a secondary is a bit of a quandry. You've two big decisions : Do I get a Travel Power (you don't need to but Talos / IP might be painful until 28) & Do I need Stamina (I'd say yes & respec out at 35/36).

    As for slotting:
    The heal should get 2+ accuracy & 3 heal.
    Siphon Power 3xrecharge. You can bung an accuracy in there too but you really don't need to.
    Siphon Speed 1/2 accuracy & 2+ recharge. 2 acc if you're relying on it as a travel power
    Speed Boost : 3xEnd Mod. Don't put +Run Speed in it unless you're feeling like an evil git
    ID : Just one Dmg resist will do
    Jumpy thing : 3xJump
    Transference : 2 accuracy, 2 recharge 0+ End Mod (it gives back lots anyway)
    Fulc Shift : 2 accuracy, 3 recharge

    Get Haste too if possible because Haste & a few Siphon Speeds is just silly fun.

    Good points borne out well by the last two Illusion / kinetics Controllers I teamed with with my Fire/Rad controller. Had to beg and plead for every Speed Boost. And I know how annoying it is to get "SB Pls" every 2 minutes. But these guys just wouldn't buff me unless I sent two or three requests.
  10. Healing is fine. I'm happy to be a back-up healer.

    I'm not sure about dropping your best AOE control for 16 levels and taking a Res instead is all. Especially when you take the much inferior Cinders at 18?

    I use Flashfire every second group. I reckon I see Res's being used every second mission roughly, if even that.

    Hmmmm. Care to elaborate? No to what?

    Are you basing that on the experiences of your Illusion / Kinetics? Because Illusion is superb for soloing post Level 18. Kin/Elec Defenders don't have the Deceives, holds & Pets to distract & disabled the mobs that any Illusionist has.

    Although Unthing is right. Fulcrum Shift will make it a bit easier. But then you've another issue. At level 38 suddenly every Kinetics Controller can do every trick you can nearly as well. Plus they have Containment Damage too.

    Is there life post 38 for Kinetics Defenders?

    In a decent team Kinetics/Electric is so much fun.

    But theres a few things that stopped me playing mine.

    Soloing : You really suck at this. Far more than nearly any other AT. Ok at level 26 I got Transference and that helped a bit, but its so slow and boring soloing him

    Lag : Healer + Lag is a bad thing. The last few weeks CoH has been... not unplayable but certainly delayed and I don't think its fair to the team that I might "spaz out" for 5/10 seconds at any time just as a Heal / ID is needed. Especially since Kinetics heal needs a target to bounce off and lag can really screw that up on you.

    Last time I played him I got compliments on healing too. But they didn't see me shouting at the rubberbanding toon and trying desperately to bounce heals off guys who were actually dead / dying but I didn't realise.

    Oh and thirdly, End Drain is useful again. Before that is was basically useless. Now its a nice side effect again.

    Flashfire is an amazing power. You need to 6 slot it ASAP but combined with Firecages its a ranged AOE hold. Plus it recharges much quicker than Cinders. In fact its much better than Cinders full stop.

    Do you need Mutation at all?

  15. My Fire/Thorns isn't much fun to solo at the mo. Only level 14 though and I hear Thorns is quite a late blooming set with 2 great end powers. Plus Fire Imps at 32 would be great for soloing.

    Plus I initially tried a Damage King build with Hotfeet & Firecages. Just gets you killed a lot it seems. I've Freespeced the build and am planning to get Aid Other/Self. Then I reckon it'll be a good late soloer.

  17. One of my zombies, Mr Grey, seems to get splatted first all the time.

    The fact his owner is standing behind him not healing specifically to rip the soul from his body probably doesn't help
  18. Here's the build I went with. Its a pretty offensive Controller build, relying on Hotfeet and Fire Cages initially protecting yourself with Radiation Infection.

    AOE Control was what I wanted to play with, locking them down, debuffing and then getting right into combat. Sometimes you get squished, especially if there isn't a complete aggro magnet on the team. But its completely differnent to play compared to my "skulk around the edges and drop pets / debuffs" Illusion / Storm controller.

    Level 30 at the moment and the only change I might make is replacing Bonfire with Smoke to stop the Fire Imps being spotted by neighbouring spawns.

    I freely admit to not being a 'l33t' PvP player, but in my own experience, PvP is far from that predictable. Perhaps it becomes so at the very highest levels.

    Call me weird but I see that example as proof that PvP isn't borked. Variety should be the spice of life for PvP surely? Like 4 of anything should produce "lessening returns" the more of the same types you group together the less effective each additional one becomes, no?     On the "not empowering the tier ones" I never do with my meatbags anymore because I don't want them standing there doing the pukey thing. I want them in getting smacked about the place. But that was only because they'd puke and then stand there like, erm, zombies.

    But pre level 12 I'd buff them up, max firepower. After that they'd mainly be alpha strike absorbers so no puking for them. The exception would be against AOE heavy enemies. Giving them upgrades causes them to get spread out a bit more as some melee and others hold back for pukies, avoiding the worst of the AOE hopefully.
  22. Yep I'd take Radiation infection, Enervating Field and Lingering Radiation in that order by level 30. In fact thats exactly what i did. RI ASAP, EF at 24 since I needed to do the Stamina & Travel power run and LR at 30.
  23. Well yeah, its probably better than detention field.

    I was just horribly disappointed by it when I picked it up. I've given it a fair go and it doesn't do very well.
  24. Had a brilliant Empath standing behind us in our last 3vP match. Talk about god mode, myself and Anath were basically immortal.
