Dr. Bane Lecter, brought to you by the makers of Hobo Joker. ... Yeah, not so much.
The really ironic thing is that Bane is a stupid character anyway - I mean, seriously, steroidal luchador criminal mastermind, what? - and yet the prospect of a wholesale revamping of his personal style... doesn't make him in any way more appealing.
Ah, well. The whole Nolan Batman franchise has been one big writeoff for me anyway. Just have to bunker down and wait for the next revolution of that particular cultural wheel. -
Quote:Fair enough. You've been gone a while. I've been in a contractural "Disagree with Evilgeko" for a while.
Quote:And by the way, he's wrong.
As for me, I find that - quite refreshingly - I no longer give even one-tenth of one damn about PvP. In my initial disappointment at its coming, I lost sight of the simple fact that this is the Internet, and as such the international jackhole alliance would've been along sooner or later anyway. -
Yes. That. (It also happens with some of the regular tight tops/tops-with-skin items, particularly the T-shirt, particularly on female characters - possibly tops-with-skin is applied as a mask rather than a proper texture?)

This is a question to which professional academicians and sociologists have devoted entire careers without coming up with a satisfactory answer. It's hardly a fair one to pose in a discussion on the fan website of a video game.

Quote:Rerolling wipes all the character's badges, mission arc souvenirs, etc., some of which are difficult to recover, a few of which can't be recovered at all, and all of which are part of the character's history - along with the M-civilians' total time estimates and whatnot - about which there are still a few of us left who care. Having to start over, but keeping that stuff, may be an attempt at compromise with the "No. Despite being a veteran player, you somehow wouldn't know how to play any more if you changed power sets, and that would make the Baby New Year* cry. Reroll" crowd. At least, that's how I perceive it.What would be the point of that? That's not a respec, might as well just reroll if you have to start at lvl 1.
* This is not the actual expression, but, well, you know. -
That's probably one of those things that would cause the Arbiters to go back in time and kill your grandparents.

Quote:That was certainly my experience. Bill will probably remember my "Hell's Angels vs. property values" analogy when PvP was first introduced.Actually I think what discouraged people more wasn't the PvP mechanics, but that tiny fraction of the PvP community that (vocally) behave like obnoxious jacktards when encountered.
Like everything else about the eternal PvP argument, however, that is anecdotal and hasn't got hard numerical data behind it, and so, like the argument itself, there's no point. You and Bill both have good points, but are making them in support of two sides of an argument that is itself of no value. So congratulations - the two of you have just successfully re-enacted the entire Internet as a two-person show! -
Quote:The teleportation isn't even the most amazing thing about it! The really amazing thing about Paragon City's medical system is that the average hospital stay for a near-fatal injury is ca. 11 seconds.Yeah, as Venture recently put it, the mediporter is there to provide "script immunity" for our characters.

Astounding. Thirteen hours and this thread still hasn't been locked.

The "white mask eyeholes" thread reminded me of this: Hey, guys, it's 2011, can we please have white spandex that's actually white? I'm sort of tired of always avoiding white for face masks, tights, tops-with-skin, etc. because in practice, for no reason I can discern, the "white" color setting on tight textures always ends up looking like I was trying for the ever popular naked character effect, particularly on female models. As that is generally not what I'm trying to accomplish, it's kind of annoying.
I used to think this was a graphical glitch or oversight of some kind, but given how long it's been that way, I have to conclude that it's on purpose, in which case I have to say I'm not a fan. I mean, feel free to keep it around, I'm sure there are people who dig it, but for myself, I'd be pleased with a properly opaque white spandex option.
(Also, "the white spandex option" is my Alan Parsons Project cover band.) -
Depends where you work. I worked in a tech support call center once where people had to adopt "stage names" for working the phone if there was already someone in the office with their name. My friend Mark had to be Nick, for instance, because he was the second Mark to join the hardware support group.

Getting killed because you were using Walk in a mission is a little like crashing your car 'cause you tried to use the makeup mirror in your sun visor on the Interstate. "Don't do that then" is really the only viable response.

Ah, so their Rikti prisoners simply can't be bothered to break out of their mission map's Circle of Thorns Jail Room. And, really, who can blame them.

Quote:Indeed, some of us specifically started playing City of Heroes, despite a general aversion to the MMO experience, because it didn't have PVP in it.It atrophied because this game was designed from the get go to be PvE, and as such has always had a dedicated PvE population. Nearly all of the playerbase has no interest in PvP and never has.
Or a crafting system.
Or ph4t l3wtz.
... sigh. -
Yeah, power set respecs have always been CoH's canonical example of the Why We Can't Have Nice Things principle at work. Which was and remains tragic, because - particularly with characters who've been established for years now and new power sets coming periodically - it'd sure be fun for those of us who wouldn't abuse it.

If this article is even true - and bear in mind that, ultimately, we have only the word of one of mainland China's, erm, legendary newspapers for any of it - these folks have problems that exist on a whole different continuum than online gaming. In journalism we called that "burying the lede".

Quote:No, if you recall, that was a pilot program; the prototype failed to meet expectations and any further funding was withheld by the sponsoring agency.Wait, I thought the British used Reliant Robin-based shuttle technology. There was a documentary about it and everything.

Quote:To be fair to The People, that's hella tricky when nothing else runs for office. That's been the problem with the presidency, in particular, since about 1796.Then that behooves the People to elect representatives that are more than just talking heads sniping at each other.
