    Spend or Hold

Ok I am dual boxing Positron on two mid-teen characters (elec/elec scrapper with a son/son defender on auto).

My question is this. Should I roll the merits, or should I just hold them and accrue them until i get up to the 30's where most people roll anyway. Any thoughts.

Bonus question. How duo-able would the clockwork king be in synapse tf. because I could lvl my elec/elec to 50 using synapse if that is feasible. Maybe have a Rad on follow?

    Uber veterans

My first character (my main) is my "self" character (Captain Sammy) who started as a Inv/SS tank but the damage sucked (this being Issue 1ish) and scrappers could get the same def/res numbers. So I rerolled as a DM/INV (the one 'punchy' scrapper set.) Since he was rerolled my 'oldest' character is my second 'self' character Magic Master, who was an Ill/Rad BEFORE they were the fad. Both are 50's as well as the a fire/kin, emp/dark, and on my second account a storm/elec.

However, I have 50 Virtue Heroes, using almost every set. 9 Blast, 9 Scrap, 9 Tank, one of each kheldian, 10 controllers, and 11 defenders. A couple are still on the drawing board, but over 45 are currently created and playable. With GR I am going to add a few unique villians and bring them over to add to the group.

The characters are organized into theme grouping with interconnecting backstories and everything. SOmeday I may even write it all down.

My Ill/Rad, having a family connection to the Midnight Squad, went back and did the arc to get access to Cimerora. So he gets used for ITF's. (good character for it anyway).
I play my Main scrapper sometimes for fun.
I play my Fire/kin alot to lvl up my others when I cant find anything else.

while I use farms to do early lvling for my new characters, I run TF's with them as well.
  3. Well I did not make one of those posts, but I did join the club within the last couple weeks. YEA! Now for the two billion club.
  4. Did not read the whole thread, but was looking at some of this the other night myself and I came to the opposite conclusion.

1.) Any AT can pretty much softcap through pool powers, APPs (alot of squishies get a basic armour), and set bonuses. So resistance characters have a advantage.

My Invul scrapper has 25-30% defenses (BEFORE Invincibilty). Also has 70% SL and 30-40% energy and element resists. Jumping into a big mob will softcap my defense AND what little does get through, gets reduced further my resists. With Siphon life (dark melee) and the heal globals in health, health, and regen bonuses, he heals back good too. He is a good all-around.

Defenese based sets are one-trick wonders, and have no way to mitigate the 5% that will still come in when soft capped.
  5. Well I will add this. The DOTS show load not population, but I think the ORDER does show (reversely) population. I have seen Virtue at two dots with Freedom at 1 on a couple occasions. I play exclusively on Virtue, so its always at the top for me, but I accidently clicked on another server once and when i went back to the server select screen, Virtue was on the very bottom, with Freedom second, not the other way around it has always been. I took notice, so maybe there is something to this after all.

Anyway, I started on Virtue a couple months into the game. Had lots of friends come and fill up thier slots and move to other servers, but after trying to leave and start over once, I gave up and am only virtue for life.
  6. Yea, having that same problem. I bought 5 slots on each of my two accounts last night and selected them for Virtue and now they are not showing. but I am hoping that when the thing comes back online that we will get those back, or i will throw a fit. haha.
  7. I have a INV/Tank that resembles a big fat bee. He could probably be better done with better sets now, but he is upper 30's (for the last couple years actually) and I am NOT rerolling now. I did a little foolery and named him Buzzz with the extra Z. Had that name on Virtue now for a couple years, might be gone on other servers too.

Incidentally I usually come up with decent names (i think) though many of my first thoughts are usually taken. The only one other than Buzzz I got gimmicky on is Gail-Force (used the hyphen) because the name just 'worked' and I wanted it.

    Windowed Mode

I got it. The first thing worked for me. Now to have enough guys to even open it in a window at work. haha.

    Windowed Mode

thanks I will try that the next moment the boss isnt around. :-)

Hey we have more salesmen than we have computers, so I HAVE to bring my laptop to work in order to get anything done. I cant help it if COH is installed and just happens to pop up in a window sometimes. :-)

    Windowed Mode

I know there is aplace in the options to run in windowed mode, but I can not find it. any clues where it is?

    Level Pacts

That MAY work if one account expires and the other guy just does not log in. Do not know about that. But I had people pacted on my two accounts. Let both accounts lapse, and every pact was broken. Most were still under 20 anyway, so I just rerolled anyway.

    Prestige levels

Magenta, Fuchia, or Taupe, maybe. :-) j/k
  13. Well I have a whole 50 character one man two account SG stable planned out. several 50's and several more 20-40. But most are lowbies and many were rerolled because my account expired and my lvl pacts were broken. Anyway, trying to reroll, redo a few characters, get them back into lvl pacts, and get all the characters that do not have a new proliferation set in them up at least to lvl 14 before I16 live and I lose a particular mission I use. hehe.
  14. CaptSammy

    Windowed mode

How do I set COH up to run in windowed mode on my laptop. I think there is a way, just forget how.
  15. I have two accounts, and never saw the note about account deactivations breaking pacts. Had many pacts between characters on my two accounts. They all broke. Thankfully most were under 20 and I have re-rolled many of them.

The difficulty change does make PLing Easier! They are never going to stop it anyway, so might as well make it less annoying.

The no bridging stuff makes PLing much harder. I have not played as much lately, but you can make AE missions now that auto-SK all lowbies up to lvl 46 anyway. So I dont think bridging was much of a problem anymore, but this cuts down on that kind of AE farming.

Note: I have two accounts and sometimes PL myself. This will make that somewhat easier and somewhat less rewarding at the same time. I have no problem with it. Glad to have it.
  17. My Virtue stable of Heroes is a (One Man/two account) supergroup. It is organized into several theme teams and the have an interconnecting backstory as to why these diverse teams are part of a larger SG. I had a lot of different characters and filled out the teams. I have already planned out my increase with the new proliferation. There will be 50 heroes total. I wanted one of every powerset. However I do have no Stone Melee (never like the looks of it) and No Trick Arrow as a controller secondary (I have a TA/Arch and an Arch blaster and two archers out of 50 is enough.) Sometimes one powerset is used twice because there are more primaries or secondaries etc. Anyway, the final breakdown will be.

    9 Controllers
    11 Defenders
    2 Kheldians
    9 Blasters
    9 Scrappers
    9 Tanks.
Hmm Im one short. My planning sheet is at home. pretty sure its a blaster or controller.
The group consists of my main and his wife character, and then 6 - 8 man theme units that they have ties too and all work together. Maybe someday I will actually write some of the stories in my head.
  18. Gosh, I can't believe I did that. I know better than that. anyway, sucks about the pact-breaking. Now I have to reroll a bunch of characters in the teens and low twenties. Any higher than that will just have to go without.
  19. I was in SWG for the opening weekend and played for two years. (left well before NGE). At that time I jumped ship to COH. I am a fan of both genres. I have not checked out SWTOR, but if its any good, I may take it up and either reduce/suspend my current two accounts.
  20. Hey do lvl packs automatically break if you let your account lapse for a couple months and then come back. I have many packs between my two accouts and let them both lapse less than 90 days. Now I re-upped and all the pacts are broken. Guess I will just have to do some work to log people back in.
  21. OK I reinstalled windows on my machine. Technically all the COX files are still on the machine, but I will have to go into the folder and run the updater and recreate the desktop shortcut. If I run the updater will it try to re-download the entire game or will it 'see' the files already there and go faster? Any tips for getting back in the game - I have been away for several weeks since my computer was messed up and needed the break but I think some of the stuff im reading on the boards sounds great.

I see what you did there.

200 merits is 5 Lady Greys and a Katie if that takes you 8-12 months you are to casual to have a forum account.

[/ QUOTE ]Me thinks yall dont know what casual actually is. Casual gamer wont have time to do a tf/sf/trial. You looking at 30 to 45 minutes at best for their time played a few days a week, now spread the play sessions across multiple alts. Now you see how this can end up taking months or years for IOs?

    [/ QUOTE ]

And before merits those people who did not have time for a TF were only able to buy a Numina's with 50-80 million influence. Now they still can still pay 50-80 million influence OR they can get one every year through merits. Whats the problem?

Merits are better than the system they replaced. They are not perfect.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
I got to say in my 3 years of playing the merit system has really done alot more harm then good. Casual or hardcore, it makes acquiring some of these uber-IO's extremely dificult in a reasonable amount of time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    [/ QUOTE ]

I am having trouble imaging any possible way that it is taking longer to get uber-IO's than it was before merits. Unless you did one KHTF before and magically rolled a LOTG or Miracle Global,

They may be more expensive, but you said 'amount of time'. It has decreased. I got 3 of the 'Big Three' total in the entire time TF drops were the old way, and i ran plenty of katies back in my day. I have earned 3 big three since and I have merits spread across a dozen characters still. Unless you ran exclusively Katies or Speedens AND had decent luck with the RNG, it is now MUCH quicker to get what you want.

    [ QUOTE ]
Really the only thing that is wrong is not having the option of just geting a random roll OR merits for a reward.

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you had that choice there would only be one choice (for every TF but two) -- Merits. Why would I choose a random roll for a Positron, when I could get the merits and roll for THREE random rolls. Of course, Speedens and Katies would choose the random rolls. And people would still predominantly run KHTF and Speeden because you get more 'bang for your time'
  25. Before: Run 7 (30 minute) Katies. Get 7 random rolls
Run 1 (3 hour) Positron. Get 1 random roll

After: Run 7 (30 minute) Katie. Get 3 random rolls (+3 merits)
Run 1 (3 hour) Positron, get 3 random rolls (+1 merit)

Before: Run Story Arcs solo. Get a couple SO's. NO chance at Pool C's.
After: Run story arcs solo, Get a random Roll every two hours or so.

Merits accomplished what they were supposed too. I see KHTF still advertised. I also see ALOT of different TF's advertised.

If anyone has reason to whine, I do. I have 43 Virtue heroes. Ok so I have a sheet of paper that keeps track of merits on each. Yes it would be more convienent to be able to pass merits around, but its not that bad.

If there is a TF forming, I look for a character in that range (so i get both XP and merits). I admit if i have two characters in Synapse range and one already has 61 merits, I will try to use that one, but I have taken the other one just because the team needed it more.
I have merits on at least 12 characters at this point. Oh well. When i get enough merits to do something I want, I will turn them in.

If i need something bad, I will concentrate on one character. (I recently ran one character, my fire/fire blaster) at the expense of all others, for a week or so to get a Numina for my main. I did not burn out. If i would have started feeling burnt out on one character, I would have swithced to another, even if that meant delaying merits.

Before if you wanted a Numina, you had to farm KHTF, or farm for influence to buy one. If you did not find those things fun you had two choices. Not get a Numina, or do something you didnt think was fun.

You now have a third choice, and you can play one alt to get it quicker, or play your alts regularly and you will get there eventually.
