Quote:Yup. I guess it's MORE disappointing, knowing that they HAVE and CAN make faces look awesome, yet the whole 'OMGNew Shinies!' thing gets in the way of what actually works and is proven to work pretty much without fail.
After seeing a certain other dev team fail basic concepts of HCI and GUI design, I'm willing to cut Paragon a little slack for being magpies. -
Will be there, currently need a computer.
-
The face plate things don't really make much sense, they look like a mixture of Mass Effects 2 Samara's head gear, with a sprinkling of the shades go here bits for Deus Ex:HR, Adam.
Why exactly does she need power enhancers any way? Wasn't she already the strongest psychic on the planet anyway? -
Quote:That was more or less what I meant. There's nothing in that costume that's uniquely identifiable with Penelope, unless you go down to the specific detailing and minute item placement. But like you said - putting this costume on another person or rendering it in a stylised caricature like most webcomics would make it unrecognisable, because there's nothing truly recognisable about it.
Again, I challenge people to describe the costume to me in a few words, and describe it in such a way that it doesn't describe a whole bunch of other people's costumes without much word-twisting. I don't think you can, because there is no one thing and no one small group of things that are uniquely identifiable about it.
Batman is a good example. I've seen him in the comics, I saw him in the movies, in the cartoons, in the various game he's shown up in and I've seen mock-ups of his costume used by regular people all over the Internet. His costume is always different everywhere it shows up, but it's always uniquely identifiable as his own regardless of exactly what its finer details are. Busy or simple, professional or fan-made, it IS Batman's costume. That's what I want for Penny, as well - something that's memorable when you stop looking at it, and right now the most memorable part of her costume is her belly button, because she's apparently the only person in the world who was born with one.
She wears pointless metal things on her face?
I just don't get them, they seem so Leifieldan, what do they do, what are they for? Did the designer just play a bit too much Deus Ex : HR before designing her? -
Quote:Ignoring the useless drama, this is what I feel would be the best use of any 'surplus'.
Granted I doubt there is a surplus with the amount of content we've been getting, unless they really just sat on this treasure chest for over a year+. Still, I'd hope they are looking to the future, as much as I love this game it can't last more than 5 more years on the current engine.
Saddly I don't think that even if Paragon Studios wanted to do so, NCSoft would be smart enough to let them. -
Dissapointed about the lack of weapons, but manI am loving being able to use the roman parts at level 1.

Quote:Wrong.
VIPS get Dark Control, Dark Affinity, and Dark Assault for free.
F2P players, will have to purchase them.
And while I think giving F2P access is likely a good thing, I don't think there's anything wrong with Paragon Studios charging them for the new sets.
I'm just hoping beast mastery doesn't cost 800 points, y'know seeing as it can only be used by one AT. -

Now granted, since NCSoft (nor Paragon Studios) have *not* released actual subscriber numbers for several months, the only method we have for gauging as to how successful a game is via this method...
Several years actually, http://mmodata.blogspot.com/ stops tracking them at 2009 with a steady down turn at around 120kish subs.
Would be interesting to see if they managed to spike back up at any point. -

The problem is the writers doing the story, are trying to capture popular super hero tropes, such as Jerk *** Batman. But they aren't as talented as the writers of the comics.
So instead of Manticore coming across as jerk *** Batman, aka a magnificent ******* , he comes across as whiny child. -
Quote:Those are Silvestri pencils and David should be honoured to have his work be compared to that man. The comics that made the Xmen a household name where drawn by Marc Silvestri.
To be fair, the guy seems to have gone into Liefield mode, just check the guy with guns bigger than his fists, and fist bigger than his head, or the woman in the front with her huge legs.
Admittedly he can draw feet so thats a point in his favour in comparassion to Liefield. -
Quote:It is a rather Liefeld design isn't it?How many of those cruddy team books did Image let Liefeld churn out?
Chest!
Midriff!
Random metal **** on her face!
Edit: All she needs is about twenty pouches and a gun bigger than her body and she's got the whole costume pack. -
Quote:ROFL!!! Oh man the doomies are entertaining.
Just a few months ago you guys were claiming that Freedom was going to kill the game and now you're story is that it's the only thing that saved it. <snicker> You're like those people that predict the raptures coming then scream "Do Over!" when it doesn't happen.
No I was one of the people saying they had to go Free to play, because the game couldn't surive on 30k subs. -
Quote:It seems to me you're not asking to be the most powerful hero in a world that spins around you - you're asking to be the protagonist of your own story, which, IMO, sounds perfectly reasonable. Have the camera center on you when you log in, even if you're not top dog - maybe someone else is bringing down the Deathstar, but you're playing your part by taking down the approaching tie fighters. And guess what, it's also perfectly reasonable for you to want the spotlight, even if something else more important is happening at the same time.
Another currently out MMO does exactly that.
you and up to three others are very much the awesome mega movie heroes of the game, at any time. -
Penny's costume sucks ****.
Looks like she's jumped out of the pages of Cyberforce.
Which really wasn't a good comic at all.
-
Quote:Stuff that is honestly... not worth it, would of been included in the sub as free content. How do you figure? Issue 21 and 22 are relatively bigger than issues have been in a while, I'm getting an extra story arc every month and I'm getting 400 points in the store (well 550 actually) every month to spend on the stuff they're trying to sell me.
That looks like more to me.
Pre-Freedom, could you of seen the Circles of Thorn set, Fireman helmet, or even the Carnival of light set, released as a paid for extra?
The coyote travel power? Pre-Freedom that would of been the 'bundled' power in say a native American themed costume set.
Instead they'll have you pay for a bunch of stuff you used to get for free, and use the 'weekly' release schedule to excuse poorer quality releases than they did before. -
Honestly you're getting less for your sub each month, but that is to be expected, prior to Freedom the game was dead, it was two or three more NCsoft meetings away from being shut down.
-
I'm sorry Zwill but I don't belive you when you say that player feedback resulted in the ATE's being made available through gameplay.
That seems to be a move based purely on avoiding the negative press of the game being called 'pay to win', especially given NCSoft's poor history with said pay to win games in the west. -

Quote:The problem is Tech, by the time I23 hits, who will be around to RP it?I think when he's removed in I23 is when we can safely consider his death 'real', canon and actual knowledge.
Until then I'd say it just hasn't happened, not IC or in-canon. Since, y'know, he's still there >_>
They've driven me off, and I'm a tolerant laid back player. -
-
I'd say do it when part six of the who will die arc comes out.
I mean it does stretch even human ignorance to claim that enough people will be unaware of his death to keep bringing it up in RP, I mean Paragon did everything short of waking you up and whispering in your ear 'Statesman is going to die' to spoiler it for everyone. -
Quote:I found a few more gaping holes and might have fallen into some before I noticed. For example, I made an Arachnos Widow and the stories constantly reference Destined Ones, but nobody cares to explain what they are and the Paragon Wiki is no help either. All I know is that there is a list and you need to be on it.
Destinined is the main meta-story for villains, explained at level 40-50 as you complete your patron arcs. -
I'll be there, not sure if I'll still be playing CoH then, but it will be nice to see you all again this year.
~~~~~
RogerWilco, the way it works is that an Internet cafe is hired out for the weekend, we play CoH, other games, have food, laugh and joke and so on.
Last year we did a Shadowshard TF... that was interesting to say the least.
