Union related point: Statesmans Death

OOC discussion, basically. Since States doesn't get removed from the game until I23, who else thinks it would be best to consider him 'not dead' until he is actually removed? As in, Part 5 of SSA doesn't become canon for use in Union RP until the effects actually happen.

Otherwise we're going to get awkward moments where someone goes
"Hey, I just worked with Statesman today!"
and the response is
"Statesman? Dude...he's dead..."

So, yeah, any general consensus on that?

I think that sounds like a sensible plan.

I'd say do it when part six of the who will die arc comes out.

I mean it does stretch even human ignorance to claim that enough people will be unaware of his death to keep bringing it up in RP, I mean Paragon did everything short of waking you up and whispering in your ear 'Statesman is going to die' to spoiler it for everyone.

We did have a small chat about this in ther URP channel, and i think it was agreed that until they remove him from the game, i23, we treat his death as limited to "in arc", much like other arc events that do not appear in the main game world, ie the blowing up of Skyway.

Seems a bit silly talking about his death when you can still meet him in a number of locations across Paragon.

There was also the question of, until the Devs make game wide changes, would it impact on anyone, beyond a item on the News.

I think when he's removed in I23 is when we can safely consider his death 'real', canon and actual knowledge.
Until then I'd say it just hasn't happened, not IC or in-canon. Since, y'know, he's still there >_>

Personally, I'd prefer to treat it as a thing which has now happened, but I can see arguements for waiting until issue 23. Also there is this, which is relevent, especially the last part.

We didn't do this for Issue 22 because the story arc will still be in the midst of being released when that is launched, and we want the game to reflect the state at the end of the story, not the point five-sevenths of the way in.

The problem is Tech, by the time I23 hits, who will be around to RP it?

They've driven me off, and I'm a tolerant laid back player.

You're also a highly opinionated sod. I should know, I'm one too

Frankly, I've not been around much either. But I still would like to drop in when time permits, and was just bringing it up due to being relevant for Union RP.

So...are people more for acting like it's now happened, and thus stuff like STFs and whatnot need changing to reflect that fact? Or to wait until I23 when he physically goes?

Personally, I would say wait until i23.

As it stands, while he may die in the latest SSA (which I haven't actually played yet, so I don't know the details), the fact is that he's still handing out his TF and turning up all over the place. Until the game world has moved on, it just doesn't make sense to acknowledge his death, especially with the SSA being VIP or paid for content that not everyone will have.

While it will obviously come up in the near future, it makes sense to me that we treat it as an event that has not yet occured, otherwise we're going to have to have a serious re-think about the current state of Skyway, that the Freedom Phalanx has fallen, and the fact that the Rikti and the Praetorian conflicts are very much treading water in terms of current events. To acknowledge his death at this point could easily lead to far more conflict than neccessary.

I suppose when it comes down to it, what I'm trying to say is that if Statesman is considered dead now, it really breaks my suspension of disbelief when I can just pop over to IP and he's hanging out trying to get people to go and take down Recluse.

Just my 2 inf.

Yeah, I think I'm going to weigh in on the 'wait until he's removed' side. Especially as we still don't know how the rest of the SSA will play out yet.
