WoW is a decent game. But it's not such an amazing game to attract millions of players on its merits alone. That's due to brand recognitions and advertising.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd disagree with this. What is there to compete with it? EQ and EQ2 aren't near as polished; neither is Age Of Conan. Warhammer, possibly, but that game won't appeal to PvE'ers. LoTR I've never tried. Guild Wars is on its last leg, as people await for GW2 (this isn't a shot at GW; I enjoyed that game)
There seems to be the perception that there is this huge glut of fantasy MMO's out there when the reality is there are only 6 or 7 that appeal to people from North America and Europe. If you add in all the Korean and other Asian MMO's this number would multiply, but those games can have a large language barrier.
WoW is the biggest for a reason; it is by far the most polished and offers depth to keep people interested.
I'm more curious what will happen within the superhero niche with the upcoming releases of DCUO and CO; I sincerely doubt the market segment who these games appeal to will be able to support 3 MMOs (including our CoX) adequately. -
Exactly. I didn't get into WoW until the Burning Crusade expansion, but after 3+ years in CoH (at the time), I decided to try something new. I met some good people and I enjoy how many things there are to do.
I miss the character customization we have here and the travel powers (which aren't missed too much once you get your epic flyer) but WoW does have more depth to it. Whether people view that depth as a feature or a detraction depends on whether you enjoy the other aspects of the game. -
To each their own. I play both WoW and CoH, but I do not understand the scarcity of CoH boxes in major outlets.

Once you have fulcrum, siphon power becomes fairly redundant. It still has some value for debuffing hard enemies, but it is pretty easy to be damage capped all the time with fulcrum.
[/ QUOTE ]
Kinetics & [u]Soloing[u] is the thread title.
He also mentions AVs.
Both are situations where SP is extremely useful.
Having it is the difference between an AV that hits you for 800 damage and one that hits you for 150.
[/ QUOTE ]
You either didn't look at the posted build, or don't know what you are talking about.
"That" build is able to easily triple stack fulcrum shift. You'd have to be terribad to not have capped damage the entire time while solo. So SP is of no offensive benefit.
I've already commented that I don't think the posted build is as amazing as it could be, but it does have:
69% global acc + 42% acc slotting in SP = more than enough acc for the power. Oh and tactics so no issues hitting +5's
Perma hasten = SP recharging in 7 seconds, which is plenty fast enough to do its job.
The slotting has it easily TRIPLE stacked. Fully enhancing it would allow you to stack it four times for a whopping 20% more debuff.
3x SP +2x fulcrum on an AV = -100% damage. You'd be hard pressed to notice an extra 20%, but those slots are sure good elsewhere.
When you are already packing an astounding ~200% global recharge, you will barely notice the precense or absence of additional recharge in relative short recharge powers (ie 20 second SP).

Yup.
And to add, I enjoy Flight on my Energy/Kin. Hover with Siphon Speed is great and avoiding melee helps avoid damage spikes. -
Yeah, better tell your Mommy while you're at it.

For hellionball, I prefer Force Bolt. Personal choice, I guess.
[/ QUOTE ]
Me too, but they eventually die. -
[ QUOTE ]
Uhh... maybe Energy Assault. Then maybe Fire. Pretty close between the two but I think NRG has a bit more explosive visual effects.
[/ QUOTE ]
Definitely energy. -

Let me suggest this to you:
LRN2READ. I've stated several times here that I don't die often and that the claims that I do and am a bad player are absurd. ABSURD!

Possibly, but you do make stupid analogies. That loses you the argument right there.

I'd say they don't need a compliment; they already know how awesome they are.

Edit: If Cyclops starts a fire does the fire just go away if he's knocked unconscious?
[/ QUOTE ]
Depends on how much wood is left.
Cyclops' blasts are concussive force, so yeah, they would stop
firing if he fell unconscious. -

Guardian...just an FYI, your Force Field/NRG Defenders link shows "Forum not found".
[/ QUOTE ]
He's known about that for some time, and I even REPOSTED his guide and GAVE HIM THE LINK.
He either doesn't care, or thinks it's funny now. I suspect the latter.
[/ QUOTE ]
Pretty much the latter. The missing guide is now part of my sig. Just for you though, Player, I'll fix it for old time's sake.
My guide is linked to up in the guides section if anyone wants a gander. It's a little dated now, since I made just before the changes to Repulsion Bomb were made, and I've never tweaked it for IO's, but the build still complies with ED. -
FF is better at defence, Cold offers more utility. Like Philo... sorry, The_Player said, depends on team makeup.
-
The DPS of using just Neutrino Bolt is surprisingly high.
-
Rad has great utility in that it has decent single target and AoE damage. It's not the best in either, but respectable, and the secondary effect is great.
For AoE damage, it is beaten by Fire, AR and Dark, and for single target it is beaten by Fire, Ice, Energy and likely Sonic, but I'll admit I haven't run the numbers for Sonic.
Green lasers from the eyes are pretty damn cool though. -
[ QUOTE ]
i dig AR, and i dig the kinetics power set. with my ar/dev blaster experience i'm already used to dive bombing in to toe bomb with trip mines every few seconds, so the back n fourth wont be anything new to me - in fact with a 2 stack of siphon speed up perpetually i'll be doing it even faster this time.
CDN; definitely, i'd be interested in seeing the differences.
if anyone else has any opinions, feel free to chime in.

Here ya go, hopefully it helps. About to hit 41 or so, and he's lots of fun.

Dark Blast is one of the best at AoE damage out of all the blast sets. For Defenders it is the AoE king. I haven't run the numbers for Corruptors, but I suspect Fire and AR would pull ahead.
Regardless, Dark Blast does not suck. It has a solid 1-2-3 chain in Dark Blast, Gloom, Life Drain, and one of the best AoE chains in the game with Tentacles + Nightfall.
I've rarely slotted the snipe, and only use Dark Pit when I have another disorient to stack with it. Focus your slotting on the five attacks mentioned above, and the nuke if you like those. The -acc component of Blackstar is great to protect you from everyone who isn't dead. -
BA/WP is a lot of fun, and very, very tough. I'd recommend it.
-
I'm attached to my broken sig, but I wrote a guide for this exact combo linked to up in the guide section.
-
[ QUOTE ]
Just want to add one quick thought.
AR and Kinetics might not pair up so well. AR likes lots of range, and Kin likes to be in melee. Sure, you'll be able to make it work, but you'll be moving around a lot.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'll add that you do move around a lot, but the combo is a lot of fun to play, especially on a team, which will love you. A Fulcrum Shifted Full Auto is a thing of beauty.
It may not be for everyone, but give it a try. The build looks decent. I'm out of town, but I'll post my build this weekend. -

[ QUOTE ]
Any argument that KB is better than KD is simply false, due to the fact that Energy Blast has only a percentage for KB.
[/ QUOTE ]
Who is arguing this? KB is fun and isn't near as large a liability in reality as presented in this thread. As far as I'm concerned, it's a completely false reason to address Energy Blast. Is it meant to be a consistent form of mitigation? I don't think so, but it may be, in which case its proc rate needs to be increased or changed to 100%. Few sets have consistent mitigation inherent as a secondary effect, outside of Dark and Ice.
AR has as many AoE powers that cause knockback as Energy Blast, outside of Nova. Why isn't that set given the same weak analysis given in this thread? I'd love to see people harp on Buckshot or M30 to get those powers changed to KD. -
This is such complete crap. There are only a few sets that can put together a 1-2-3 AoE chain hitting all targets each time. In fact, the 3rd AoE will usually be a rain power with a fear component.
Let's see who can do a 1-2-3 AoE chain hitting all enemies. Fire? Possibly, but again it's got a fear component. Ice? Nope, 2 rain powers, 2 fear components. Dark? Nope, but it does have a fantastic 1-2 AoE spam. AR? Yup. Sonic? Nope. Rad? Yup, with some positioning.
So your point that EB doesn't have a "3-AoE chain hitting all targets" is silly. Only 2 Corruptor blasts sets can do that, neither of which is the best at AoE damage.
EB is fine; don't expect me to waste my time making and posting a video for some halfwits who cannot figure out how to use a single-target blast set. Give me a break. Asking me if I know anything about the game, and yet people cannot figure this out. Hahaha, classic.
The strength of Energy Blast is its single target damage, and when dealing with a single enemy, knockback isn't an issue. Like I said earlier, focus on the single target aspect and use the AoE's at opportune moments and the set is more than good enough as is.
Sorry, but I don't buy the argument of turning KB into KD to make the set more appealing. Anything that caters to the lowest common denominator of intelligence should be avoided. This isn't a difficult game, and this isn't a difficult set. Really, how easy do the devs need to make this game for you people? It's sad. -

CDN, I accpet the apology you're about to make.

You can "accpet" whatever you want, whatever that is. Your point is as useless as your spelling ability. -
Your point is as ridiculous as your namesake and avatar.
