I just joined this fairly epic SG on virtue. One of those gigantic "there are six versions of the same SG in the coalition cuz there are THAT many people here" supergroups.
Soo... logically, I've been running Task Forces like they're goin outta style.
The PROBLEM, though is that my collection of characters is predominantley controller, and with the new water blasting powerset, everyone and their mother is avoiding tank-y characters like they had the plague. my TF commander accolade had...seven melee characters across a sample size of six full-to-eight runs
Seven.
This makes me sad.
So..logically, I'm rolling a brute. I'm just stuck on the secondary for him
The goals of my brute are
1. Primary is staff fighting. Staff fighting seems like it'll be cool. You breakdance, AND have forms. What's not to love?
2. I'd like my secondary to be in the dark/electric/energy/fiery/super reflexes/regenration/willpower pool if possible. The other ones just don't...do anything for me. I just can't decide between em.
3. I like the thought of building that "one perfect AT" character. So as a result, I plan on having to often exemplar this character down. I don't want a toon that RELIES on like..a lvl 28 ability to tank. I don't wanna be "awesome unless I'm running posi, synapse, or citadel".
...I want to be "awesome"
4. Could I get a list of the generally good sets from a defensive POV? I'm to used to running on controllers, fortunatas, and crabs to have ever bothered looking at melee IOs from the PoV of "survivability". -
I just wanna see if I could get silly st damage with the new gravity, rad/scorpion damage boosts/debuffs, and general...radioactivity. The goal would be to not die, lock enemies down, then knock them down with speed. Would this work for a plan?

Prep for a lot of tips ><
That said, it's not THAT bad. It's just the price you pay for the awesomeness of "80% most built stalker ever", "20% massive team buffs through double-leadership" -
DERP! >< /smacks forehead.
I left out like..HALF the budget stuff
From other characters that I got bored with, plus my INSANE desire for that elemental badassery crystal power set, I have about 150-200 million spare, but I have numina's, miracle, performance shifter, the AT set, and at least 3(but easily scaling up to 5) LOTGs floating about. And from converting my crab to a bane, I have a silly amount of frankenslot ranged IO's wandering about
so..it might be a budget that can budge a bit more than I thought.
....and I have been obsessively farming up sets of the cool knockdown enhancement, and atm I have like...four dudes that could USE the ATO, and...9 sets now. So...in like..a month, I may sell some -
Alright, here's the deal
1. I want a space cowboy of some sort. not so much a tom petty space cowboy, or a cowboy beebop space cowboy, but like..a Buckaroo Bonzai reinterpretation of the populuxe spaceman concept.
...I have many costume sets, and I've always wanted to use DP, and I've always wanted an awesome SPACEMAN
2. I had/have(IDK. I might be canibalizing him for IO pieces) a decent beams/traps corr that I do like, but the lack of a heal is killin me. I like the whole "buff in the very beggining, DEVESTATE THEM AND RAIN WRATH UPON THEIR KIN!" method of corrupting. I like rainin the wrath. I like killin AVs. I also like being a distinct force multiplier.
3. I really, really like having an ally rez/group heal(not ally heal. GROUP heal.....I need heals><) on my characters
4. I'd like to have some amount of useable def/res(like....aiming for 35-40% def to all)
5. I'd like to spend only..150ish million on this character
6. With that HUGE list of requirements, are there any secondaries for dual pistols that can satisfy my huge list of demands? specifically, an ally rez, a heal, decent defense(or resistance) for myself, and a PILE of awesomeness. I'm just searching for something cool to go with my love of shooterists. -
Fun:
Trying to build awesome characters(normally some sort of VEAT or support)
IOing out the toon
making cool costumes
writing a solid backstory
enjoyable(long enough and big enough they're fun, short enough I don't get bored) Strike/Task forces
ITFS
Unfun:
trying to make kheldians work
melee toons
toons like dominators, where there's a "meh/awesome" switch that I GOTS to hit to really enjoy it(this is just me, not a "doms NEED to be perma" thing. If there's a goal, I gotta focus on it)
The lack of a "hide left/right shoulder" button -
New problem
1. my build as it stands is replacing the previous TK blast with poison dart, just for the -regen, and so I don't get curbstomped by those foes that ignore psychic damage(I chose to drop widow for some additional leadership, so my non-psychic was woefully lacking)
2. I caved when I saw apocalypse on sale
3. As it stands, my subdue is slotted with 5/6ths superior ATO, Poison Dart 5/6ths Apocalypse, skipping Apocalypseamage, and DoA Dam/Rech, respectively. So I have space. Assuming I need a stopgap till I get to gladiator javelins, what will fit in best? I'm thinking trap of the hunter for subdue, but either entropic chaos:heal or tempest:end drain, what'll work best? Does end drain lead to it going back to me, or naw?
If it's a "Naw", it's an easy, easy answer, but if it's a "yeah", I'mma gonna have to think bout this. -
TDB, ty for reminding me that I could grab reg leadership as well. the new build just replaces the med pool for a second dose of leadership
-
Quote:Maybe call it "tunnel vision" and just say the more focused the blaster gets on their target, the less the rest of the world matters? :PIm just stirring up elements of different things in a melting pot. But what about literal domination equivalent though? Build it up just like dominators: attacking. Be able to activate it for similar benefit: mez prot + ... damage?
At this point I'm just going crazy and having fun with the ideas since I figure the direction is already decided (unless we playing "guess whats actually happening")
-
Hey, I recently returned to CoX, remembered that I am completely unable to play non-invisible, non-cc toons, spent far to much on hero/villain packs, and am in a spot to get both a fortuna and an ill/time troller to endgame, in such a manner where I can look at incarnating from 2 points of invisible view.
Could I get this checked out to make sure everything is workin right?
goals of this build:
1. not run out of endurance
2. high def/resistance
3. Have working aoe-cone and single target chains
4. to have as little downtime as possible on my pet
5. Maintain aid self/serum
6. provide enough passive CC and Tac trainings that I'm pseudo-support while maintaining solid dps
7. Have a good startin point for incarnate trials
now, the big questions:
1. Build look alright, overall?
2. Are any of the villain patron pools significantly better than the others for fortunas? Right now, I'm going soul for the symetry of summoning a widow to help me out, but I HATE how the soul attacks look. If it turns out that mu or mace is "superior", I could be easily convinced to swap.
3. Does mace mastery have a redraw? Or are the consistent redraws built into the animation time. if it's a "feature" of mace mastery, that'll make my decisions in regards to what APP that much easier.
p.s. non-fortuna question: for the SoA ATO set, where would it do the most good in a hovering doomcrab? I'm thinking my 4th target is either gonna be to finish my crab, or start a kheld, and I wanna get started early

Nothing in regards to one specific power SET, but I am addicted to stealth and to control characters in general.
So lots of flavors of controller, a fortuna, and flirtin with a WS right now -
Hey, I've just recently returned to CoH, got my second controller to 50, and I'm looking for a non-troller alt.
So obviously, I'm going with the least troller-y thing I could think of; a brute. I'm madly in love with the animations of staff fighting, and have some staff/electric armor-y questions for the experienced brutes on this forum
1. between perfect body, guarded spin, and sky splitter, can I expect to be noticably hardier than another equivalent brute? Can I expect to work well as a tank? Or is the whole thing moot. Can brutes expect to tank endgame anyways? Remember, no CoX tanker experience(but a fair amount of WoW experience....I just don't wanna have to roll up a toon with a lower damage coefficient to tank (even if it's just "oh, in a pinch" tanking, it's still tanking, and therefore, awesome)".
2. Due to my addiction to high poly-count backpacks, and a desire to know that my controller main was always gonna be unlocked, When I returned to CoX, I bought far to many heroes/villains packs. As such, I have the means to get the brute's fury set. Any advice on where to slot it?
3. As a staff brute, will I even care about getting to the mythical "perma-hasten" level? Or is it just a case of "put in a handful of LoTGs/set bonuses so that I can make an uninteruppted attack chain from 3 +perfection attacks, then skysplitter/Eye of the storm"?
TLR: are there any major cooldowns I should be worrying about? Or should I just get myself down to like..be able to alternate my perfection eaters?
4. Any major temporary powers floating around that'll just make my day? I know of envenomed dagger/serum, and I plan on always having those two on me, but is there like... a super-secret-tazer-the-enemies ability somewhere? :P
5. I'm like...99% moot on epic power pool choices. I can make a blueside one or a redside work in my concept. ANy specific pools recomended, or should I just go energy mastery for what looks like 3x awesome passives?
Ty for the pre-brute advice -
Holy ...something. I need the proper expletive to express how flabbergasted I am with this UTTER GENIUS of taking BOTH "awesome always on toggle that trashes my /end" invis, AND "buff everyone in a massive way" invis.
Stuff like this is EXACTLY why I posted the build
Thank you all for the wisdoms. This forum is making me progressively more awesome.
EDIT: also. it seems those hero packets I were popping like candy to get my ele order gear/troller archetypes? they have reward merits..
......it looks like I have 127x25=3175 spare merits floating about
I will use my inf on purples
Final Q: when I get mah IO's, should their level be 50? 53? 25? what. I know there's some logical level, but..continuing my "ask those wiser than me" theme :P -
Hey Mordheim, I'm in this awesome "returning to CoX" scenario as well.
Lets break your requests up a bit
- I prefer to group when possible and intend to spend as much time as possible once I finally hit 50 doing things like ITrials
so..good in groups. Fortuna's get a buff that's analagous to AM in terms of "now we're cooking with charcoal", and an improved version of the leadership pool
- When grouping I like to feel as though I'm contributing something other than just more damage numbers. This can be tanking, control, debuff, buff, really anything other than just smashing the other guy (which has so far kept me away from blasters)
Fortunas, like earlier mentioned, have a super-leadership-pool. Also, the majority of their attacks toss out holds of one magnitude or another.
- In practice, while leveling, I do a lot of soloing so something that is at least tolerable solo would be great. I prefer safe or interesting (control, debuffs, etc.) soloing to fast soloing though so I doubt this will be an issue
Fortunas are invisible, have the defense of a drunken brute, the damage of a blaster that's missing it's pinkies, and the CC of a defender.
If you wanna play a character that isn't so much "jack of all trades" as "Didn't get the gold medal in any one olympic event, so s/he melted all the silvers down into stilletto's, then stabbed all the gold medal winners, and then melted THOSE medals down to motivate the team...through stabbykinetic terror?"
that's a fortuna you're lookin for -
1. Cool, ty for the helpini
2. wha? is group invis a flat "cast" buff? if so, I might drop the dang invis toggle. .52 end/sec is crazy to deal with. -
hey, y'alls. I'm in this awesome situation of being within spittin distance of having a second 50, and a second lvl 50 controller(so..second 50 total). I leveled the first controller(ill/kin) to get a rough feel of the game(LotG good. Incomplete Attack Chain BAD). I'm a hideous nub, have..roughly 150,000,000 inf saved up for this character(300,000,000ish inf total, and plans to make some sort of fortuna alt as well, so..150mill for each). and due to discovering JUST how filthy-addicting the heroes and villains set is(and coveting the entire "awesome crystal dudes" elemental setup), have the entire 'troller enhancement set floating in my inbox, as well as enough merits that it feels like I'll be able to comfortably make multiple LoTGs and such.
Ill/Time is the sort of fascinating that leads me to spend far to much on pretty costumes and enhancements, and I can definitevely say I'll be playing this character as my "main" throughout the majority of my time in CoH, so I wanna get this initial build right. The goals are
A. Lots of cool slows and holds and such
B. As much recharge as I can reasonably get with my current price range
C. AS MUCH DEFENSE/RESISTANCE AS POSSIBLE. Can't emphasize this enough. Only thing I /hate about my ill/time is that there's still the posibility of death...ergo I wanna minimize it
D. Enough endurance gains that I never really feel a..crunch(I'm 36 right now, so no chrono shift yet. if I'm dramatically under-estimating it, my stam slotting will change)
E. a functional lvl 20 build.(the first part of who will die is stupid-easy with phantom army, hover, and invis. I wanna keep rocking stupid-easy merits every time the CD is up).
F.Farsight is boss on fortuna's. It's also boss on a superawesome 'troller. I wanna keep it running whenever possible
and finally? if I could get advice on the optimal slotting for my AT enhancements, I'd love it. My gut is saying "Blind" will work best, but if my gut's wrong, please tell me so.
So Teal Deer? This is my first big kid build, I know I'm messing SOMETHING up, and utter ruthlessness would be appreciated. If there is anything you can do to make me awesome without it just translating to "1000000 purples", I'd be ecstatic.

Next question: how do I check to see which ele pieces I still need to get?
Ancillilary Next Question: it feels like the pet from the new dark/ control/dom set is a regular looking TAN dog that happens to be in a cloud. Is this true? Or am I just playing with my graphics to low/confused by the existence of some sort of temporary pet that arrived while I was /afk? -
1. Is there any way to buy /time while still a VIP? I <3 incredibly well rendered costumes, and sorta wanna waste points on looking pretty, but it's silly to be sittin pretty when I can't get onto my 'troller.
So Teal Dear, I wanna unlock time ASAP, so I can be irresponsible with the remaining points
2. When will the rogues/vigilantes superpack be released? Like I said before, horrible addict to spending money unwisely
3. for the archetype enhancements, using the fear fortuna ability, and controller aoe ability, I'd get the most bang for my archetypical buck by tossing em into AoEs, right? I'm just returning to the game, and I don't want to mess up my super-awesome archetype orgins -
now I have OFFICIALLY given up on my oh-so-awesome crab spider. any time a game is insome massive way based on a specific feature(like looking good with an amazing amount of customization), and then completely removes that feature(like..ugly red crab mark), I'm saddened.
eh. least my fortuna is mad fun :P -
New backpack query? is it possible to make a backpack that DOESN'T have the arachnos logo on it?(besides a 100% red backpack). I want to have a reformed crab that threw off all the brainwashing, and I can't see the toon keeping the SoA decals
-
eh. I don't NEED pretty. I do though, need "I turn the graphics down as low as possible. this computer doesn't fail me in trials then". Will it be "playable" in trials?

Would the following laptop be able to play CoX properly?http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2387552,00.asp
I am currently missing a working laptop, and my desktop's graphics card is, to put it kindly "non-existant"
the laptop in the link, the lenovo v570 is available at best buy right now for 550$. I'm just wondering if this would be a buyer's remorse style purchase, or if I'd be able to play CoX on it. I don't need super-ultra-kahmaha-ma-ha settings, but I'd like to see what's going on on "recommended".
So...thoughts? -
I like this "list of ways I can get money"
....someone should sticky this for the other controllers here :P
or..other new players -
I totally lucked into a miracle+recovery on an alt, and whichever toon gets the "main" laurel gets it(it's between plant/thermal that I'm restarting who has 26 untouched costume changes left), or ill/kin and 41 costume changes.
And I ADORE hero tip missions for like 4 reasons
1. They're well written
2. I love it when named npc's show up. I'm very much the guy who locks down the villain, then left clicks to read his bio
3. I like running around maps while invisible
4. Apparently hero reward merits are big? I have 3, IDK what I can get with em yet, but I'll figure it out in 5 levels on the ill/kin(like..I keep SAYING that the plant/thermal is gonna be my main, but..realistally? I just learned that I can slot my spectral terror for damage, and then not only will he be a general 'eff you, spawns that are apearing' turret, he'll also be a damage turret. and that makes me happy. I wanna play the toon that makes me happy. Also? I got a +recharge Force Feedback for my Kin when I redo him tomorrow. the ill/kin? he's not a leader. he is a sneaky invisa-ninja, CCing in the thick of things, tossing mobs out from nowhere. kick/tough/weave both makes sense, and the FF recharge was only 11,000 inf. ). -
1. Every non-Dr Harmony non-that-random-tank-troll people: Thank you. I've got a better plot for both my plant/thermal/fire and my ill/kin/psychic(I'm figuring psychic cuz this dude ends up in melee a lot, and getting holded KILLS me, and it's either that, or one of the 2 "temp invulnerability" ice powers in either the Ice APP, or Mako).
2. Dr. Harmony/other vets: can you guys just give me a list of IO's that tend to sell for INSANE amounts? When I came back to CoX, I was discussing my return in chat, and a nice stranger-that-turned-into-a-friend dropped like 200mil influence on me, but..I don't want to go from my current 197 mill to 0 mill tricking out ONE troller, just to be able to not finish the other troller, the fortuna, OR the crab spider I have planned(...I'll finish one troller, then move to the VEATS. It's TOTALLY a viable plan).
I don't really wanna roll a brute/tank to 50 JUST to run AE. My favorite part of this game compared to[list of like..every other MMO] is how CC is an active task here, instead of passive(like..you CC for 3 second intervals, while healing and dpsing).
While I'm asking for help, can I get a quick "easy money" list so I don't have to roll-and-grind with a tank? I get the basic math of "hit 50, spend 8 tickets a pop on bronze recipes, sell IO's, repeat", but I also get the math of "why pay 15$ a month to be bored?"
...I pay 15$ a month to have my characters dress in fancy outfits, with auras.
