Before AE came out there were at least two warnings not to use it as farm grounds. They were ignored.
When AE came out the patch notes and tutorial said not to farm it. This was ignored.
The Devs went "If you can't be trusted not to throw the ball in the house you don't get any balls."

However, for some reason, Super Strength is considered an awesome farming set for brutes, and it does almost entirely Smashing damage. And, in a similar note, I've seen people achieve ridiculously high damage numbers with Knockout Blow, on targets that should by all rights be fairly resistant to Smashing damage (Requiem and Romulus come to mind).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, it looks like neither Romulus nor Requiem have any inherent resistances to Lethal or Smashing damage. Looks like many AV's work that way, especially of the non-Praetorian/Freedom Phalanx variety.

Really? Huh. I appear to be in error, then. I always thought at the very least that Requiem would.

    The more you know~. *Muzak!*

I first noticed this when my Katana scrapper was critting for ridiculous amounts of damage on Rommie.

Do I believe any of them have played the game from 1-50 as a normal player without giving in to the urge to use the power at their disposal? Nope. It gets too tedious once you get into the 30s.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Personally, I find the 30's to be the funnest part of the game (aside from LGTF's at 50). Lots of slots, all your best powers, RWZ, Cimerora... it's where I feel like I've gone from being an "amateur" to a "professional" hero.

Of course, since you believe that part of the game is too grindy, it's likely the devs have never even bothered. They probably throw their hands up in frustration and shout, "how do these fools even play this game! Why, if I cared, I'd do something about it, but I'll just hit this magic button instead and be all ubah."

Oh wait... they play this game on their own time with their own personal accounts, which most likely aren't allowed access to dev tools. Huh.
  8. It looks like that motherboard has a PCIEx16 slot, so you have a ton of options for upgrading if you decide to do so.

This card would be a good middle-of-the-road card, that will run the game very well. The price is also great.

Here's something beefier, that'll let you crank up the settings. I have an older, slightly weaker version of this card (8800GTS) and it lets me pretty much max out everything at 1680x1050 and maintain a good framerate. If CoH is pretty much the only game you play, I'd wager this'll be the most powerful card you'll need.

    Happy hunting!

Honestly, I couldn't care less what you do with your toons or how you play the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    ...
Anywho, I personally don't think new players should PL. The game is pretty easy to learn, but there's still a learning curve to it. I'm not talking things like "What's the DPE of Fireball" or "Are the pseudo-pets that FS creates autohit?" I mean the basics, like "What's the difference between the types of enhancements," "Where do I train," and "How can I fly?" I think the first 20 or so levels provide a good primer/tutorial on that kind of information. Also, other players are going to be far more tolerant of someone <30 asking these questions than a 45. Of course, at the end of the day, it's their decision... the preceding is merely my opinion/recommendation.

As for veteran players, I really don't give a green [censored] if you PL or not. I have several 50's, I've played dozens, if not hundreds of alts, and y'know what? I'm tired of the 1-20 grind. I don't enjoy it. I enjoy Stamina and SO-level enhancements. So if someone offers my lowbie a chance to get there sooner, you bet your sweet bippy I'll take it.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
Why does it bother you if someone has the option to reduce security on their own account?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I guess the only problem I'd have with it is the fact that people will disable it, some will run into trouble, and they will hold NCSoft responsible. Whether they should or not is kind of a moot point; you still have an angry customer, wasted time by the CS folks, etc. After seeing this exact thing happen in other games, I'm rather leery of it.

The way I see it, we'll always have the 30-second countdown no matter what. Typing my password takes about a half-second, so it's negligible in comparison.

    [ QUOTE ]
    QR

Have the return to character select require your password, but give a faster log-out time (10 seconds or so).

    [/ QUOTE ]

I always thought part of the reason the 30 seconds was there was to prevent people from getting themselves into trouble then logging out to prevent death. Might be pulling that out of my [censored] though. xD

You don't get recipes or common invention salvage. This becomes an issue at around level 32, when simple IOs become as good as even level SOs. It's fairly easy to keep your SOs updated with tickets, but you won't be replacing them with simple IOs, and thus spend money or tickets on their upkeep longer.

You are not getting badge missions or defeat badges in MA. This puts important accolades like Atlas Medallion harder to achieve. I recommend that you take time out around 23-28 to run the Moonfire task force a couple times, which usually helps a lot in getting your Slayer and Silver Bullet badges.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think I've gotten maybe two accolades on two of my characters in all my years playing this game.

    Accolades aren't all that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I consider the Atlas Medallion at the very least to be standard fare for most of my characters. It's pretty easy to obtain through normal play, and the +5 Endurance is quite a boon.

It doesn't hurt for everyone on the team to go to Bloody Bay and pick up a Shivan. That detour is less time than experiencing multiple team wipes.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And this is why I'll never do a STF, a LRSF, or Hamidon raid, as you seem to be expected to have a shivan and a nuke or two for those. I haven't been in a PvP zone since Issue 6 went live, and I'm not about to go in one now.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Never used Shivans or Nukes on an STF, personally. But we're usually either doing Master runs, where nukes and shivs (or deaths) aren't allowed; or quick runs, where we're done in under an hour and have an optimized team. Only did one PuG STF, and that was... unpleasant.

everyone should have only one character

    [/ QUOTE ]

I thought you were suggesting that everyone should literally share one single character. That would actually make more sense. City of Hero would no longer have name collisions, because there would only be one name. City of Hero would no longer have outlier performance, because by definition everyone would have exactly median performance. And powerset balance becomes largely moot. PL would also become a moot point quickly enough.

The level of discourse on the forums would also significantly improve. No more PvP arguments. No more build arguments. No more "role" arguments. No more powerset proliferation demands. No more "devs hate villains" conspiracy theories (they'd be replaced by "devs hate the only character that exists" theories).

It would start to give the game a bit of a LaMOE feel, and I think the day job badges would become largely out of the question, but that's a small price to pay.

Letting everyone have at least one, much less two characters of their own opens the door to a lot of problems. Its really a half-measure at best.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, but then every time I logged on, it'd be a witch hunt to figure out who respecced our character out of Torrent again.

Also, if you level up in the AE, you'll miss a lot of badges and the accolade powers that come with them. You'll miss opening up Ouroboros and the Midnight Club and unlocking hidden contacts (redside) and TFs (blueside).

    [/ QUOTE ]

ProTip for getting Oro without leaving the MA building:

"hey, can someone drop an Oro portal for me?"

Hop through and get the badge.

But after you leave Ouroboros, you won't be in the AE building anymore. Then you'll have to, like, travel back to it. That's tooooooo haaaaaaaaard.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Really? Dang, I've beaten Rommy more times than I'd like to count, and that with less than optimal teams, I've never failed taking him down.
The STF though, that's been failed every time I try that, and the last time was with an experienced Team Leader who told us what to do and when. We mowed through the Patrons and even took down the Flyer without incident. Recluse? Took all of us down in seconds, and no amount of coordination worked.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yar, for an inexperienced group, a good Stone tanker is what you want against LR. Ideally you'd have an Empath dedicated to healing him, but a well-built tank (with a tray of purples) should be able to survive until the red and yellow towers are taken down. Oh, and make sure he's got his taunt slotted... LR has ADHD, and Granite sloooooows the taunt cycle.

As for Rommie, the only time we have trouble with him is when one of the shards starts throwing fluffies everywhere. Then you get ambushed by Romans, and it turns into a mess. That's why I bring my Mind/Kin controller on ITF's... Mass Confusion, Fulcrum Shift, tank and spank.

Step #1 in game turn down all the graphics settings to minimum and set game to windowed mode.

Exit out and start up the game.

Once instance #1 is fully loaded, start the updater again, to create instance #2.

But I agree finding someone to help you would be an ideal solution.

[/ QUOTE ] Or make a new shortcut:
    "..\City of Heroes\CityOfHeroes.exe" -project coh -maxinactivefps 2

    [/ QUOTE ]

This. I have one shortcut for my "main" window with the -maxinactivefps 1 switch on it, then a second for the other window that has -fullscreen 0 -maxinactivefps 1 so I can easily use that instance on my second monitor in windowed mode. Works like a charm.

    AE and TF's

Heya folks. I've already reported this bug, but figured I'd post it here.

I logged in my WS who I had forgotten was in the middle of an AE arc to join a Posi TF being started by my SG-mates. They were reforming to include me, as they had just started when I decided to join. So they quit and reformed, threw me an invite, and I was able to join successfully (without quitting the arc). Strange thing was when I joined, it showed an active mission: the first mish of the Posi TF, even though we hadn't restarted it.

We started up the TF, and on the way to the first mission, I noticed in the middle of my experience meter rather than the typical "TF" symbol, it was the "AE" symbol. Strange. So I enter the mission... and my client locks up. Fire up task manager, kill it, and restart the game. Once loaded, I discover the game booted me from the TF and back into that AE arc. Team had to quit the Posi and reform to get me back in.

Moral of the story: make sure you quit your AE arcs before anyone tries to invite you to a TF.

Since I am stuck in a very long phone conference, staring into space...

So any one think that the fireball changing color in Desdemona's hand in the video means PC is coming? Need to start some rumors!

    Yeah, really exciting meeting....

    [/ QUOTE ]

I wasn't sure... it seemed to go from red to gray to blue. I see one of three possibilities:
    1. Power Customization. Awesome.
    2. Your powers change color based on your alignment. We see this already with redside lightning sets and such.
    3. Cinematic flair. Boooooooo.

Because the lady said that Praetoria looked beautiful. We know better.

and then in the credits it stated that loyaltys will change. I think states is gonna go "Rogue". Basically all for one, one for all. Last man standing kinda stuff.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Could be. I took it as meaning player loyalties will change, but we'll have to wait and see.
  23. Ah, that explains why it was loading so slowly. *Updates bookmark on work laptop*

...What? Don't look at me like that!
  24. [ QUOTE ]
Starcraft (and Warcraft, Diablo, etc.) are good examples of games that compare favorably to MMOs for value. That doesn't mean that MMOs aren't a good deal compared to most video games (I finished Fallout 3 in 40 hours, for example, so that's more than a buck an hour there), and almost any non-video game form of entertainment.

People can always complain about for-pay add-ons but we've received a mountain of free content from the devs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And 40 hours is even phenomenal compared to some games I've spent $50 on. I remember beating Freedom Fighters and Red Faction 2 in under 6 hours without trying. *Shakes fist*
