    Scrapper combo?

    [ QUOTE ]
I think this belongs in the Scrapper forum...

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Agreed. Moving it there...
  4. [ QUOTE ]
I actively avoid Atlas Park these days as the spamming and language is quite frankly disgusting, and asking politely for people to stop results in more abuse. I also play on hide these days as constantly being asked for teams by players 8-10 levels lower than me and then getting abuse for refusing to team with them is an irritation I can do without.

I am happy to team with anyone that asks politely and is in the right level range, but being barraged with abuse is something else.

Arena chat is another case in point, the abuse of the channel and constant flaming and language is unacceptable, and as I have stated before I have it permantly disabled as spending all night petitioning people for EULA breaches is not my idea of fun.

Making this community a better place is ALL players responsibility, and maybe by treating other players with the respect you would expect yourself and consistantly petitioning "bad apples" would go a long way to making Defiant a better place to be. We are all equals in this community, this used to give me great pride that I was part of a truely homogenous group of people, and this has now sadly disappeared.

Lets start working to make Defiant a better place to be!

    [/ QUOTE ]
I appreciate that /petitioning isn't great fun, but it is the way that you can put a stop to abusive language and other unpleasant behaviour.

A /petition reporting this kind of thing doesn't have to be particularly long or detailed - just give the character names(s) and a brief sentence or two describing what they're doing. Make sure you /petition immediately following the incident, as this makes it easier for the GMs to find the right place in the logs.

The more /petitions our GMs receive, the more they can do to put a stop to any unpleasantness.

    Thanks.

    GRATZ AURORA PB!

Okay, I've had about enough of this.

The last thing I want to do is have to lock a thread that's supposed to be congratulating someone on hitting 50, but I will be forced to if people can't stop making snide, surly or just downright rude posts.

If you happen not to like a specific player, that's entirely up to you. But I don't want to see any more of this in a 'congrats on 50' thread. Be nice, or don't post, please.

Same here. Wasn't flaming, or being nasty or anything - quite the opposite in fact, but hey ho.

When I have to removed a post, this board system automatically removes any replies to that post (and replies to those replies, and so on).

My apologies to those whose well-intentioned posts got caught up in this.

    Best PvP Build?

    [ QUOTE ]
Basically, the trick to doing well in PvP is to get yourself into a good team which work together. Try and make it into an 8vs8 rather than 8 1vs1's.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I have to say that I think this is probably the single best piece of advice for anyone interested in PvP in CoH and CoV - whether you're interested in doing well or just having fun.

In summary - my recent limited and totally atypical (and probably not all that relevant) experiences of playing a tank at low levels demonstrate that it IS still possible to tank and that tankers do still have a role to play in teams.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I agree completely. Having recently levelled my Ice Tanker up from 1, I've yet to find myself in a team situation where I didn't feel that I was playing a useful and important role. On the odd occasion when things have gone wrong and I've planted, the rest of the team has normally followed in short order. Personally, I always see that as proof that I was playing a major role in keeping the team alive - which is my definition of what tanking is all about.

Can I herd an entire map's worth of mobs solo and then go and make a cup of tea? Not any more. Can I always grab all the aggro from every spawn with a couple of clicks of the mouse? Nope. Can I actually plant now? Definitely.

Personally, I think these are good things. I like the fact that I have to think about what I'm doing, and that there's an element of risk - both of these make me feel like I'm achieving something.

I'm looking forward to seeing how my icey guy plays in the higher levels.
  11. Xander, I have to remind you that cross-posting and making mutltiple versions of the same post are against the Message Board Rules and Guidelines.

If you have ideas or suggestions, by all means post them in one thread on one board (in this case, 'Suggestions' would be the most appropriate). If you wish to adjust or revise those same ideas, please do so in the same thread. There is no need to start a new one.

As far as your specific ideas are concerned, I think it's perhaps worth bearing in mind that Dark Miasma is a buff/debuff set, and as such is unlikely to be changed to include damage powers. They would be more suited to Dark Blast.

Anyway so far to me mudpots and blazing aura could be just like anyother tanker attack whereby there is an inherent gauntlet and you can slot for taunt.

    [/ QUOTE ]
My understanding is that Blazing Aura and Icicles work that way, but that Mudpots has an inherent Taunt (like Chilling Embrace and Invincibility) that's seperate from its damage component.

Again, I'm not 100% about this, but I'm pretty sure.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Importantly - after the Taunt expires, all the additional aggro it generated vanishes completely. I was making the point that damaging auras definitely aren't better in holding aggro in a team situation, since they miss in ways that non-damaging auras do not,

    [/ QUOTE ]

Up until here you haven't said anything too contentious, but is this, specifically, true?

Of course the damage component of Blazing Aura can miss, and the other damaging taunt auras either can or will be able to miss. But can the Taunt component miss? If not, Blazing Aura's marginally better than Invincibility; the enemy gets Taunted either way, and if by some chance no-one else has hit them when the Taunt wears off, they've still been damaged by the tanker.

Perhaps there is some obvious reason to know it works one way or the other which I am unaware of. However, if not, I ought to be able to carry out some testing.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I believe that Blazing Aura and Icicles only apply a Taunt if they hit. The other Tanker 'auras' apply the Taunt every time they 'pulse' (I think some 'pulse' at different rates).

(I'm not sure about this, so please don't take it as gospel.)
  15. [ QUOTE ]
I'm sure I read (And I'm positive either Bridger or Rockjaw mentioned it over here too) that Claws actually outdamages all other sets in terms of DPS, due to the speed of the attacks?

Be interesting to see what the changes are? Perhaps adding a secondary effect, as has been mentioned.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Some changes to Claws are due in Issue #7, I believe, but they're not yet finalised - as Castle recently confirmed:

Only problem at this point? With the changes I made, Claws is now the best sustained DPS available. While it still lacks the burst damage that other sets have, it's too much better (~30%) than other stalker sets. I'm almost afraid to run the numbers for Scrappers.

So, I'll be making a few tweaks here and there to keep it a bit more in line with other sets.

  16. [ QUOTE ]
[Just to confuse matters, there does seem to be "strengths" of the Taunt effect, although seemingly not related to "magnitude" as such, but any level of the Taunt effect seems to override any amount of damage when it comes to grabbing aggro. I've noticed that Dwarf Antagonise is not strong enough to override any Tanker taunting effect, but a Tanker taunt will override a Tanker Gauntlet effect.]

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yes, any 'taunt' effect will overide aggro caused by damage for the duration of the taunt.

The mechanics of multiple taunts from different characters are a little more complex, and I only have a basic grasp of them. The essence of it is that if character 'A' taunts an opponent, then character 'B' taunts the same target, B will not get the aggro until the remaining duration of B's taunt is twice the remaining duration of A's taunt.

    [ QUOTE ]
Make the job easier for the Tanker (and the rest of team), definitely. Negate the 'need' for a Tanker? Not in my experience.

I've never been on a team where I didn't feel my Tankers have made a useful contribution. No matter how many heals, buffs, debuffs and control effects you have available, a Tanker is always handy.

Of course, my opinion is perhaps a little biased.

    [/ QUOTE ]

just out of curiosity, Bridger. Do you have Taunt? or do you rely on the Area taunts?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I've played Tankers with and without Taunt. (Bearing in mind I played when Taunt was single target and Gauntlet didn't exist, I've also played Tankers with Provoke.)

As a rule, I find that Taunt makes my job easier, and helps me protect my team more effectively. These days, I doubt I'd build a Tanker without it. I've been in situations where I wished I had Taunt - I've never been in a situation where I wished I didn't.

    That's just me, though.

    Gauntlet?

    [ QUOTE ]
But tankers should be more tank like and less of an atention seaker. Why is there so much focus on hearding? If this isnt going to change then the name should be changed. They are called tankers not hearders.I am not saying that tankers shouldnt be able to heard, but just that it shouldn't be the main focus of the whole AT, after all what good is tuant in solo mode? you are just getting more damage and no plus side. Do they want to discorage us from solo tanking? I just think we should have a more usful power. That is useful in solo and on teams. we will still have tuant powers, so we can still heard but it will mean that we can solo better as well.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I think there's a very important difference between 'herding' and 'aggro control'.

All the defenses in the world aren't much use to a Tanker if they can't encourage the enemy to hit them instead of their team. That's what Taunt and Gauntlet are for.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Well, on a large team I'm there's often a slim chance that there is a Controller or Defender, often negating any real need for Taunt.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This often negates the need for a tanker too.

    Gauntlet?

    [ QUOTE ]
If Bridger's out there, could we get some official word on this? It's not the first time I've questioned (or been questioned about) the existance of Brute Gauntlet/Punch-voke.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Brutes have a single-target 'punchvoke' with most attacks.

Gauntlet, on the other hand, is an AoE - it taunts what you hit, and up to four nearby foes. I believe that both the area of effect and duration of the taunt is based on the damage of the attack, with more powerful attacks having a larger effect.

Secondly, is it my imagination, or do trip mines now require you to be fairly close to them in order to be detonated by enemies? If so, I'm pretty certain they never used to - not so long ago I'd lay mines with caltrops, aggravate the mobs with my M30, and run away whilst they were picking themselves up, to return after a short while to find all my mines (and the mobs) gone.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I don't know of any changes - perhaps some long-term AR Blasters can comment?

[/ QUOTE ]I'd say it might be more useful asking a /Dev blaster

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Oops.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
Firstly, I only just noticed that my AR blasters Ignite power accepts Accuracy enhancements - which seems odd because I thought it was auto-hit against any target in the AoE. So far it's never failed to do damage to absolutely anything held immobilse in it's AoE including AV's and GM's. Is this just a mistake on the designers part? (like when Recall Friend used to accept range enhancements) - or would adding Accuracy enhancements actually somehow improve the power?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I believe Ignite has a very high inherent accuracy, but it isn't autohit.

Hyperthetcally the taunts last to the end of their taunt duration. In practice you usually find you loose all your aggro the instant you turn on the power, leading to instant teamwipe.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Not been my experience when I tested it recently. If I used Taunt then Hibernate, I could normally heal to full HP before the Taunt ran out. Of course, I tend to slot my Taunt fairly heavily, and also slot Health.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Do you find the 5 man Taunt limit a bit of a handicap? That is potentially a lot of loose enemies.

    [/ QUOTE ]
True, it's not perfect - what helped was the duration of the Taunt and Slow from CE, so even when the mobs not affected by Taunt started to move away from me, they did so slowly.

Against larger groups I had pretty good success with dropping an Ice Patch right before Hibernating.

It's very much a matter of timing, but with three-slotted Health I found that the HP regen while Hibernating was very fast.

    [ QUOTE ]
Of course a dead tanker holds very little aggro.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Exactly how I look at it.

    [ QUOTE ]
Although I reckon it should be changed so that villains jump up and down on the body at least until any taunts wear off.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Hehehe. I'll suggest that to Cryptic.
  24. Morality, ethics and the nature of good and evil are fascinating topics, and I'm both pleased and interested to see a discussion about them and how they apply to City of Heroes and Villains. It's my personal belief that these issues lie at the heart of nearly all great 'costumed hero' stories, and are the themes that can lift what has often been dismissed as a childish medium to the status of a truly adult - and relevant - artform.

Please, however, bear in mind that everyone is entitled to their own opinions on these matters, and that thousands of years of philosophical debate have yet to resolve the question of what is 'right' and what is 'wrong' - and probably never will.

By all means, discuss and talk about this stuff - but respect the opinions of others, even if they clash with your own.

    Thanks.
  25. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
One of the things I find objectionable about this debate is the lack of willingness to accept other peoples' viewpoints. Something which Syra and Augury are particularly guilty of in this instance, in some cases coming close to being insulting with their responses.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That was really quite un-neccesary, Word, especially when you yourself seem pretty unwilling to shift in viewpoint.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I agree, and I'd like this to stop. Now.

If anyone feels that another poster has 'crossed the line', the correct thing to do is let me know.

    Thanks.
