Scrapper envy, while understandable, is an ugly thing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Funny stuff considering my main is a scrapper.
  2. [ QUOTE ]
I'd bet real money most MSTFs are done with at least one tanker or two defenders on team.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I haven't been able to complete a tankless MoSTF yet, but I know a couple groups that have. I haven't heard of any that could pull it off without controller/defender support.

So yes, what you've said there is pretty accurate if you account for the possibility of controllers to sub in for the defenders.
  3. [ QUOTE ]
Did you actually write this with a straight face?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Yes.

    [ QUOTE ]
I like teams where all 8 members get to have fun.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I believe you, and would expect you to believe me when I tell you that I have the same goal.

    [ QUOTE ]
Are you seriously suggesting the only compromise for teaming with scrappers is for scrappers NOT to play to their full potential so everyone else can have fun?

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's not what I said. Rephrasing my words to evoke a negative conotation is not indicative of someone looking to achieve an understanding of a different point of view.

Let me simplify the message for you: sometimes you have to share so everyone has fun.

If I'm understanding you correctly you and I, and likely the people we each play with, have different ideas of what fun is.

Having different ideas isn't terribly worng, it just means you may have to make a decision to either compromise allowing all parties to have the most fun they can, or seek out people more like you so you can avoid the compromise.

I'm guessing you're one of the latter. Am I right?
  4. [ QUOTE ]

MSTFs are a poor example to bring into this discussion.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm inclined to disagree with this point.

I agree that MoSTF is not representative of the majority of the PVE game, but like most MMO end game raids its a place to show how skilled you are as a player, how well you built your toon, and how well you can work together on a team.

Some of the people posting in this thread may have the skill, a good build, and the ability to shift into team friendly mode. However, most of the scrappers I've played with in game lack one or more of these characteristics and end up being a liability to a team.

Let me offer another perspective. Everyone plays because they get enjoyment out of it. The most enjoyable teams I've been on were ones in which everyone was having fun contributing. Things often start to become less fun when rolls start to overlap. On a standard mission map, the scrapper AT can often render the contributions of other players moot.

If I have 1 very happy scrapper running amok and 7 moderately unhappy players who aren't feeling useful, the scrapper is getting the boot--even if I'm the scrapper. The reason is that the enjoyment of the majority of players should not have to be sacrificed for the enjoyment of the one scrapper.

While I get the appeal of soloing AVs, 8 person spawns on invincible, ITFs, or whatever; if the other players are just there to facilitate your fun at the expense of theirs, then you wouldn't be someone I'd be looking to play with.

There is a solution though--compromise. If you hold back the scrapperlock from time to time, and let others enjoy their time in the spotlight you might meet some new friends and develop a better understanding of the game.

If you aren't interested in those benefits then carry on!

  5. Couple question for all you Leroys out there:

Have any of you successfully completed a Master of Statesman's Task Force?

If you have, did you have to adjust your playstyle to get it? (let the tank go in first on Recluse and Aeon, wait for buffers to finish buffing and such)
  6. Placate Scenario 1:

Malta Sapper and a Malta Gunslinger boss are the last mobs you need to defeat to complete your mission. Which do you assassin strike first?

Answer using placate: the sapper followed up with a placate/run away on the gunslinger. Then you go up and assassin strike him too!

Answer w/o placate: the Boss first. Take him down as fast as you can and hope the accuracy debuff from assassin strike plus your high defense stops the sapper from hitting.

Both are viable methods to play. Using placate gives you an extra level of mitigation when the first level (your secondary) leaves you high and dry.

Often times with a high defense build you can simply stop attacking and not get hit for 6 seconds while you re-hide too.

You can do without it, but the power you're giving it up for better be a good one!

FWIW I have tanked Lord Recluse without support on a fire tank....with a full tray of oranges and a 500 million inf build. The odds of getting a pug invite to a STF with a fire tank, however, are not good. Probably better to just roll the stone.

    1 down, 542524251 to go...

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Make that 542524250 to go.

    I main tank'ed STF on a masters setting with my IO'd Fire/EM.

121 team deaths later we completed the TF.

My stoner got the masters badge first time out. She had SOs and Hami-Os in her build.
  8. I've really enjoyed my DM/EA Brute.

    I've deleted 2 mid-high level /EA stalkers.

Here is why I have a hard time with /EA stalkers:
The resistance to defense debuffs is low.
    Massive psionic hole.
The Tier 9 provides a good amount of hit points that are largely wasted on a stalker with sets and accolades.
/EA brutes stealth power doesn't suppress making them more sneaky than stalkers in some cases.

Here are some of the reasons I keep making /EA stalkers:
You don't need everything from your secondary making it versitile.
Based on your playstyle you can bypass stamina.
    Very solid toggle mez resistance.
    Tactically interesting utility powers.
I want one stalker with every secondary.
  9. I usually catch these things after the close date, so I'm happy to put my vote in for...

ImagesByAlex's recreation of "Nymphes et Satyre" by William Bouguereau!

I really enjoyed how Alex captured the lines and playfulness of the original piece while creating a scene that is very different.

    Great work!
  10. It's a pretty common mistake to focus on survivability in lieu of attacks. The fact is that as a stalker you often get to pick when you get in a fight; and if you're hitting them hard and fast you won't need your secondary half as much as you think.

Here is what I would do.

    Energy/pain

I have a level 50 Energy/Pain that played exclusively on a small team to 50.

While I don't have a guide for you I'd be happy to answer any questions.

And to the naysayers, it was a very enjoyable ride to 50!
  12. SoW is very much worth taking on a /WP stalker.

  15. (QR)

Regen secondary at standard really tones things down.

Also, the dominator assault sets give you a nice mix of range and melee attacks.

Minions with ANY control power sets make short work of lowbies.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
Net result overall negative. The means as always are part of the ends.

Now going into the more typical usage.

"Our heartvalve cured 95% of the people it was implanted in but 5% suffered significant side effects and there was 1% death rate associated with its use"

    Ends/Means.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually the whole "End justify the means" thing is an informal logical fallacy.

This particular one is used by politicians to sway public opinion ALL the time. That doesn't make it right, or even a strong arguement by the way.

    Please allow me to cite:
In argumentation, formal fallacies are unsound arguments that occur as a result of errors in form. Informal fallacies occur, not as a result of the form of the argument, but because the content produces an unsound argument. Examples of content producing an unsound argument would be a false premise, a circular argument, or an irrelevant argument. Following are selected informal fallacies taken from a classification scheme developed by Alex C. Michalos in Improving Your Reasoning (Prentice-Hall, 1986).

    Here is the selection:
    36. End justifies the means
To argue that a goal or objective justifies the use of any particular means is fallacious.

    My take on farming?
    I don't do it.
I don't mind if others do it provided it doesn't impact me.

Premise: Farmers generate more in game currency because they prioritize speed of accumulation of currency over content most farmers will make more than I do.

This causes market inflation as everyone attempts to outbid one another on popular recipes. My self imposed limited income (don't crucify me for enjoying the game content and play nuances) makes it harder for me to obtain recipes that both the farmer and I want.

Therefore, to me farming is a bad thing.

The ticket system has allowed people that are interested in exploring the content a vehicle for getting some of the juicy recipes we want without having to compete with the farming income generation machine.

  17. I've just published a level 1-15 arc that contains some campy humor and a variety of both low powered custom mobs and stock level 1-15 groups.

Name: A Day at the Kings Row Precinct
    Arc ID: 71962
Length: Long (3 small indoor maps & 1 outdoor map)
Mortality: Heroic (though villain players may enjoy it too!)
Description: Most new heroes start their careers off with a trip to the sewers, you've decided to hit Kings Row.

If you like bad puns, homages, reading through bios and NPC chat please check it out!

Bug Description: Prior to the release of the invention system poison gas trap (PGT) held all targets in it upon activation, and periodically held and invoked the vomitting animation for a period thereafter.

Based on the desire to remove the PROC ability of the power, the initial hold and following hold and vomit components have been reduced to the point that PGT is effectively useless as reliable means of crowd control. It not for the -regen component, this once "cornerstone of the set" would not be worth selecting.

Please return PGT to the way it was and remove the ability for the power to take hold sets.

It must be a bug because I would find it hard to believe that the power is working as intended in it's current form.

  21. I think the idea of being able to purchase respecs is a good one, though the price is a bit high.

The monetary value of a respec to me would be closer to $5.

I understand that NC Soft gets dingged with a transaction fee when charging to a credit card, and that $5 wouldn't be worth incurring this fee. Perhaps you could issue two respecs for $10?
