Just a small question
Stone and probably Inv in that order.
I don't think I've ever seen a Fire/* main tank the STF and the couple I've seen do the ITF were fairly horrible (not totally their fault ... its the squishiest of the Tanker sets).
I'm sure 542524252 Fire Tankers will come up here now to say how they've soloed Recluse but if you're looking for the cheap answer ... Stone can tank anything with Inv as a fairly close runner up.
The rest need a little love and care
While painful to level, a stone/* tank is pretty much a shoe in on an STF.
Finding a Kin for either tf is generally not a problem, but leveling up a stoner without one can be grindish, with the payoff in having a toon that will probably get you on one of those tf's with regularity.
Most tank primaries work for any tf/trial, plenty of players including me have even tanked Recluse on a fiery aura, but Granite is the closest current tankers get to god mode, which makes picking one for a pug tf a lower risk.
FWIW I have tanked Lord Recluse without support on a fire tank....with a full tray of oranges and a 500 million inf build. The odds of getting a pug invite to a STF with a fire tank, however, are not good. Probably better to just roll the stone.

But yeah you'll notice the Fire Tankers who are chiming up have fairly thorough IO'd builds.
Most newbie Fire Tankers I've seen think that just adding Tough/Weave will turn them into a Stoner.

Hehe. You will notice though that I am in agreement with Kruunch. I simply state my backround to demonstrate that I understand both sides of this particular fence.
Stunts like that are best left to groups of understanding friends and deep wallets.

Like Kruunch said, Stone followed by a soft capped Invuln are the tanks of choice for the STF. I've done it with both and it's pretty much a tossup; the Stone is slightly more durable but the Invuln doesn't have the mobility & recharge penalties. Of the two I prefer the Invuln.
One thing that doesn't make sense, you're having problems finding a STF team with a Controller? When I'm recruiting for a STF I look first for 'trollers, then defenders. Blasters & Scrappers come after I've gotten all of the 'trollers & defenders I can find. One tanker is plenty for any team.
I look primarily for Fire, Illusion or Earth controllers, for secondaries I look first for Rad, then Kin. Defenders I want Rad, Kin or Dark as a first choice but really any well played defender is an asset. Debuff sets are generally stronger than Buff sets, but I certainly wouldn't say no to a force fielder or a sonic.

No, but it can turn a DK tanker into an Invuln... without the def debuff resist or god mode tier 9. Kruunch can attest.

I have main tanked the ITF on my fire/fire tank once.... and it wasn't pretty. Vs. certain mobs he stands up about as well as a wet noodle and in the ITF he certainly got smacked way too often for me to want to run him in one again for a bit. And no, I wasn't the fire/fire in the ITF last night.
Stone is a great set for tanking the ITF, but I suspect INV would work quite well.

Make that 542524250 to go.
I main tank'ed STF on a masters setting with my IO'd Fire/EM.
121 team deaths later we completed the TF.
My stoner got the masters badge first time out. She had SOs and Hami-Os in her build.

RotP ... */Fire Scrapper's bestest buddy!
If I could only get it to come up every 5 seconds or so it'd be the only power I'd ever use to farm with.
Rhar!
Imagine how much my Fire/Fire/Fire Blaster loves RotP.
You sound like a Blaster has a stutter
I have been thinking of makeing a tank but I mostly play villian side and brutes. Does it matter what armor I pick given I would like to have a tank that can play the ITF and STF well togther? I have never been lucky enough to try the STF since the only hero I have that could do it is a Controller and I have not had much luck finding a team with him.
Sorrry for this question for the millionth time since I do not know what is best for the STF figured I would ask. Why yes I love doing the ITF
